Over a year ago now that Poppy was last seen and still hope she will be found and returned safely. Presumably she is in a new home with someone who does not realise she belongs with her real family. Haven't forgotten you Poppy. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

the found BT bitch (on this site) is blue and tan though, sadly not poppy's colour. What a shame - here's hoping both girls are home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry this wasn't Poppy, but hope she shows up eventually. I know what you mean - I have friends with slim little Borders, but I was going to rehome a Border once which had gone from a very slight little girl to a big roley-poley!! Her elderly owners decided to keep her in the end (and probably keep feeding her too!). Good luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a look at the Border in Chesire but it's not Poppy. I am sure you can identify you're own dog quite easily even if they have aged. She is a very fine looking Border as alot of the ones which have been found all look quite heavily built if that makes any sense??. We still keep looking for her in the Bury St Edmunds area but to no avail yet.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry to hear that Poppy is still missing - let's hope she comes home soon. My heart goes out to her owners. Is the one that has been claimed the elderly BT in Kent(no. 1103)? She still appears in the found section with no further news? I do hope soLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just spoken to Poppy's owner, and the little dog in the Found section has been claimed, so she is not Poppy. Good news for the little dog, but sad for Poppy - do hope she's safe and sound, and will be home one day. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So glad you have added to your family, I know what it's like to have a new little character around & full of fun, after a very sad and worrying time. It's good of you to keep us all up to date. I'll keep looking out for Poppy - and probably long after her 35th birthday!! I certainly don't think I'll ever forget her. Hope you're safe and happy, little girl. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone, we still have no news on Pops. The feelers and posters are still out there and we hope and pray she'll either come back or has found herself very comfortable in someones house. My sister, 2 brothers and myself bought my Mother a Border Pup 10 days ago. She's a very dark one, black on top and we have named her Lily. She's a darling and it's fab hearing the good old terrier bark (or yap!!) back in the house again. She has settled in really well withthe Lab and ESP just isn't sure of the cat who I thought may think she was a bunny rabbit. Still think of Poppy alot and she certainly isn't a replacement for her. Thanks again to all the help everyone has put in to finding Poppy and lets hope she will appear soonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm still here thinking of Poppy! Kirstie, if you're still there, keep checking the Animal Rescues like West End Farm Kennels 01449 737641 and Jane at Pampered Pets 01728 747760 - these are where strays are taken in. There's probably one nearer to you as well, and Wood Green too. And perhaps you could contact Border Terrier Rescue. I'm running out of ideas, but from time to time I phone ads. to see if they could be her. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How strange Kirstie! Or maybe not - we have regular visits from Borders enjoying a run in our fields!! I'm always taking them home. They seem to enjoy an outing! Don't give up. A friend told us lately that her daughter has had a little Yorkie for 8yrs, who she loves to bits. She found her wandering (obviously very well cared for), took her in and contacted the police, wardens, vets, everyone to try and find her owners. No-one turned up, so she gave her a home with her family, where she is very happy. She didn't know about Doglost then, even so she might still not have found the original owners. Poppy could easily be with someone who innocently took her in and 'adopted' her, and I'm sure she's fine. But you really need to keep her profile up in order to get her home where she belongs. It must be very hard, I know. Dear little Pops. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi, had a shock today as thought I saw Poppy running through one of our fields only to find it was someone elses Border. Very disheartening. Jimi thanks so much for all your help. Really can't thank you and everyone else enough. Suppose it's a waiting game now and just have to sit and wait and see if she gets returned. I am so sure she's in someones house. Just a shame it's not ours. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh, I do hope this will bring Poppy home. I'm so glad to see her at the top again. I've been rooting for her since day one and even though I've never met her, I feel as if she's part of our family! I hope the 'usual people' haven't taken her and sold her on, but SOMEONE must have her, probably innocently, and would they PLEASE take her home to her family now?? Thanks microchip_now for helping. What more can we all do? ANY IDEAS anyone? I'm away for 10 days but hope to see good news on my return. xxxxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It may be your server, Kirstie. The Suffolk dog is not there anymore, probably out of date, but there's one in Lincs. - they say only 2yrs. old. She's a brindle but looks darker than Poppy, if Poppy's pic. is accurate, and quite chubby! I can try to email it to you if you let me have your email address by pm or email. I can't find the border terrier on the Found page anymore either. Don't know what happened to that, maybe Dee knows? If I remember, it was also younger than Poppy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I looked on the found section and couldn't see a Border? Am I being blind? I looked on the web site for Borders and found the right page but couldn't view the picture which is annoying. Still no news at all on our little girl. Very distressing. Just got to keep hoping that if someone has her they'll come forward. I looked on Ellas site and its good the police are involved. They were not very helpful when we spoke to them. I also spoke to the RSPCA last Saturday and no Borders have been handed in to them. KxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Kirstie, Seems so strange, Poppy must be out there somewhere. Let's hope she's being well looked after. I see there's a post on little Ella's page (Border Terrier) with a website with Borders for sale. Try looking - www.epupz.co.uk/clas/viewdetails.asp?view=55433 (and also =53839 which is in Bury St. Ed's.) Probably a long shot but worth trying, in case it's someone who may know anything about Poppy. Sorry - I keep giving you more to do! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jimi I spoke to an RSPCA officer today who I had previously given a poster to but nothing their end. I will mention to Mum about getting on to the dog homes again. It's so slack on their behalf if they have these animals in and know they are lost yet don't respond to the posters and stuff. Can't really understand it. Hopfully one of them will spread some light on her as the trail has gone very cold now Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Kirstie, You can see I haven't forgotten Poppy - I'm still here! I tried Meadow Green Dog Rescue at Loddon, Norfolk (not really very near) and several others from the Yellow Pages. It might be a good idea for you to run through them all and call them (under Animal Welfare Societies). They told me they keep records, so if Poppy did go through any of them, they will have it down somewhere. Really think it's worth trying, carefully and politely (!) to see if any of the gypsy/travellers' sites can help at all. They may be quite helpful. Several dogs seem to have been seen at a site in Cambs. (Cottenham, I believe). Don't blame you for deleting everything, I do the same! GOOD LUCK. There are dogs being reunited after a year or more. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Keep checking the local re-homing centres, Kirstie - they only keep the dogs for a week max. before re-homing them. I did try one or two but didn't ask to check records, which they say they do keep. Have sent out more posters to vet in Stowmarket and more Rescue places. One in Essex told me they had a little dog handed in who they discovered (from his chip) had been missing from Yorkshire for a year. His elderly owner came down to collect him and they were both ecstatic. Hope this happens for Poppy soon. Poster also up in Woodbridge. Still think you need to poster around that site if you can though.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What good news about Squid. I will have a look at her page. The one thing that worries us is her age. She is as fit as a flea but very partial to her creature comforts of warming her feet on the Aga! Many thanks for all your help. All the posters are still up and about but I don't suppose a few more would help. We postered all around the Moreton Hall and just very odd how quiet it has gone there again. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Kirstie - if have a travellers site in the vicinity you need to investigate it - poppy is the ideal kind of dog they will pick up. you don't need to go in but you MUST poster the area and the local garages and chip shops. Do not risk that she might not be there - just in case. It's a serious possibility, in my opinion. do not enter the site but do get posters up as close as you possibly can. you'll be surprised how if you don't confront them how useful travellers can be about passing the word around. To be honest I doubt it very much if he would go up there. They are not the most inviting characters!! Thanks for putting up more posters. We tend to do all round the footpaths which should help due to dog walkers. Well done, Dee, you seem to have got things moving again after a lull. I will get posters up at the local dog show (in aid of Newfie Rescue) - about 45 mins. from Poppy's area. I've also spoken to the owners of the missing Newfie and will put his poster up there and ask around too. And I'll get Poppy's posters up at the Suffolk Show on 31st May if she's not back by then. Dee, should I be getting e-mails of any dogs missing in the IP area? I haven't had any as yet. I'm often in CO as well. Perhaps you could see if it's possible to let me know about them as I haven't always time to log onto the site. Off to Derbyshire for a week's hol. Can't see any dogs lost in that area to put posters up for. If I get near Manchester, I'll put one up for Smiley the Pomeranian. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Not doing the Suffolk Show, but will be at the Suffolk Showground next Sunday for the Herts & Essex Dog Show. Following week it will be Lamport Hall, a bit out of the area, but still on the A14! You never know who will read the poster. Has anyone been to Bury Feeds at Fornham to leave a poster? Loads of horse/dog people use them and they display loads of posters for horse shows etc. so there's always people reading them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Kirstie, have left phone nos. for trap & cage on pm if you need one, and my mob. no. if I can help. Do hope Poppy is back soon - if she's still missing by 28th May, I'm hoping to go to a Dog Show at Clopton (Nr. Woodbridge) in aid of Newfie Rescue on that day, and there are lots of doggy people there, so I'll take posters of Poppy. Also to the Suffolk Show, and I expect you'll do the same Lankeela? We must get as many as poss. up there. Do come home soon, Poppy. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone. Great that there was a lot of response from the South Suffolk. She hasn't been sighted for 10 days now. I am going to get Mum to do a 24 hour watch up there. Unfortuantly with work and exams coming up I will be pushed to do a night stint which is when we are most likely to see her I think. Hope she hasn't moved on else where. I am not sure what Mum wants to do re cage. Thanks for you PM Jimi I have read it, I've just been so busy I haven't had time to reply. Still keeping positive about her coming home. Thanks again everyone. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Doglost really does work and it's amazing just what the level of awareness is. Hopefully a lot more people know about Poppy from the show and they'll be keeping their eyes open. Lots of interest in the poster. Most amazing thing happened, a lady with a Rottie puppy brought it to the stall and it was playing with our Rottie puppy, she saw the poster and said her puppy had been stolen and she only got it back yesterday all because of doglost Her name was Bear and she was a real sweetie. So don't give up hope, there are some good outcomes thanks to doglost.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Kirstie, Dee is absolutely right. Poppy's been out for two months now, so she'll be lying low during the day. Scenting and a plentiful supply of pilchards will help keep her in the area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Kirstie - please reassure your mum that 99.9% of dogs reunited on here are spotted by total strangers, only then 0.1% are spotted by their own owners - they become feral very quickly and usually only come out at dawn and dusk. In order to keep sightings fresh make sure posters are up in the area continually and keep asking strangers if they've seen Poppy... that way you'll be able to note times and places so you can prepare a place for a trap. Keep putting the pilchards down in the meantime, so you can get her used to food being left - and don't forget the scenting. Until you can get your hands on a trap it's very very important to keep her in the area and not moving on - food and scent will do that. Dee xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortuantly still not got a trap yet. My Mother is convinced Poppy isn't there as she keeps driving up and looking around there and hasn't seen her. I think that if you have a stake out like you say with stinky food if she is there she'll be more tempted to come out from whereever she's hiding. We are quite lucky as where we hope her to be, is a nice area. I think we'd probably take the Lab with us as well as she is fiercly protective over her Mum! I will keep everyone posted as to how we get on. Just a pain that we don't have instant access to the things we need.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That's great Kirstie - the 24 hour monitoring is vital, primarily because of the risk of the trap being stolen, but also so you can get Poppy out immediately. Please make sure you know and trust anyone who volunteers to sit and wait by the trap: as Jimi says you must be vigilant. Also at antisocial hours please ensure you yourselves are safe: set up a telephone monitoring system so that someone contacts you approx every half hour in order that your personal safety is utmost, also.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I've spoken to a local gamekeeper who should come back to me tomorrow about having a trap big enough for Poppy as all his are for squirrels so a tad tight. My brother is a pest controller so I'll see about him borrowing a trap but everyone is worried about them being pinched. (sad world we live in) We'll hopefully have a trap with pilchards and a BBQ set up tomorrow and see how we go. Volenteers for 24 hour work would be greatly appreciated if anyone is local. The anti social hours are probably easier for us than the social ones if anyone has time to spare. Many Thanks again to everyone. Kirstie Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, any news? Nik & Dee will know about this, but if you do have luck in getting her into a trap, for goodness sake be there (presumably hiding) so that no-one else takes her from the cage before you do! Come on, Poppy! xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I wonder if a fox trap would be big enough for Poppy, in which case you could hire one from a Pest Controller. We hired one once from Colin Peacock Tel: 01473 687308 Mob: 07833 522057, and he brought it out to us. You would still obviously need permission to use it as Dee says, and in accordance with her advice. Good luck! If I was nearer and in better health I would sit by it at night for you. So glad she's sticking around the same area, it looks hopeful.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Kirstie - I would think a cat trap would be big enough for Poppy - otherwise you're going to have a hard job trying to persuade a local rescue, dog warden or rspca officer to lend you one, and that's more than difficult. You are going to need permission to set it and to be honest if you do, i'd monitor it 24 hours a day - i know that sounds impossible but its important so you get Poppy back out the instant she gets trapped. You need to really establish where she is going to, her sleeping place or her feeding place - is where she's been seen at the centre near the rubbish for example? Whereever that is, that's where you'll lay you urine scent and the trap. Use the smelliest food you can possibly find - if she likes pilchards so much the better. It might also be worth it, if you can, this weekend, going there with a bbq - take one of the disposable ones - cook sausages, fish, anything smelly and tempting - if it's Poppy she'll smell it and will realise it's a food source. Don't expect her to come running to you - whilst she'll definitely remember the urine smell even now she will be wary, so use basic dog behaviour, low movements, no eye contact, a high friendly voice to make you welcoming to come to. Keep us updated on how you get on. Dee xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have been to the Moreton Hall Vets a couple of times, and they seemed quite helpful, may have been cos I was buying stuff for BA Baracus our ferret. They have put up posters and said they would contact us with any news. I will speak to Mum (Poppy is actually her dog but I'm handling the mission to find her which it has turned into) and we will do the urine spray around there. It's so built up there will we be ok to do that? Will she recognise it after 8 weeks of being free? We are happy to put out a dog trap but just worried if catch other wild animals. The Police said we could set traps on our property near to where she was but would have to seek permission if on public property. Also where would we get dog traps from. We have cat traps for the farm but I don't think they are very inviting. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Kirstie, I am not one of DogLost's dog experts, but Poppy seems to be staying in the same area. The advice in this situation is to get your scent into the immediate area to keep her there. You do this with a bottle of your pee which you squirt in the area. Contents of the vacuum works too. She may be going to the community centre for the bins. You should put some very smelly food near there. Pilchards are recommended. All this should keep her in the area and give you the chance to catch her. If this doesn't work, then getting a dog trap would be the next stage.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done Jimi. With regard to the PA: I have reservations because I know just how they used to upset residents at election times. Given the local elections are only a few days away, there is a danger that people may think it's something to do with that and take no notice. However, what a PA does, is allow you to get the message out whilst on the move. We're talking about an area occupied by the multiples and they hate campaigners of any sort. If you're not on their property - causing an obstruction or not - there's nothing they can do. And providing that you don't cause an obstruction on the public highway, there's nothing the police can do either. It's not a bad idea give the nature of the area ie retail/business.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done. I got more airtime for her this morning at 10.10a.m. Nick Pandolphi was running a competition, so I entered (my first!) in text and added a bit about Poppy. He read it out straight away - he said please look out for this little dog, she's been missing for some time and her family are missing her very much. He gave all the details. I didn't win the competition, but that wasn't the point - if Poppy comes home it'll be the best prize. Another thing, have you thought of hiring a sound system and driving around the area putting out an appeal for sitings of Poppy? I've spoken to Marks Tey Radio and they tell me it would cost about ?50 for 3 days (there may be some for less than this in your area under Sound Equipt. Systems in yellow pages). You need a roof rack, and they'll fit the speakers and amplifier. So long as you don't 'talk TOO much' and people don't get annoyed (I'm sure they won't!) it's perfectly ok between 7a.m. & 7p.m. Any comments on this idea for others too, Jayne or Nik?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

All the presenters have been emailed. Took a little time as out outlook express email doesn't work! Still no news on Poppy. There are no gypsy sites around here. There is one which is now disused which we have searched. My friend who saw her last Thursday did say she was looking pretty manky but was trotting as sound as a pound which is encouraging. I am guessing being a terrier she'll be scavanging for food. Thank God she is a terrier as should be a little more hardy and certainly is more instinctive than my Lab and ESP which are still confused as to where she is. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

K2006 there is nothing illegal about doing a leaflet drop. They key thing is to target the right area with the right message. Make sure you close gates and put the flyer completely through the letterbox. These are the things which upset residents. With regard to BBC Radio Suffolk: The news desk won't be interested, so there are two things to do. Go to the right webpage and get up the schedule for the week. Email all the presenters @ firstname.surname@bbc.co.uk with a very brief and to the point message about where Poppy has been since, the fact that she is 11, how long she's beenh missing and any emotional fact like very young/old people missing her. Somewhere amongst that lot will be a dog lover and/or someone sympathetic. The second thing to do is to try to get on to the phone-in show when there's a chat about anything session. Our local paper which covers the whole area now run a section for missing pets and this included a photo. They also put the notices up on their website which is worth knowing to incase it helps someone else in our area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everyone for all your support and help. We have finally managed to get a photo and message in the Bury Free Press today so hopefully that should get the word about even more. We are putting out all the updated posters locally to and looking where she was seen yesterday. It's a relief to know that she's alive. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There have been no sightings or news on Poppy at all. We have put posters up everywhere. She was been walked at the time of her disapperance close to a railway line. I asked the railway workers to look out for her but that was over two weeks ago now. I thnik she must have been picked up by someone. She has never vanished before and just seems strange being an older dog to suddenly do it. We are all still very much hoping that she will be returned but living in a rural area we would have thought someone would have had a sighting.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Do hope you get Poppy back soon. Poster and leaflet like mad. The more people know the better - and you may get sightings or info that someone has picked her up. very good luck. SarahLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you all very much for your kind words and help with Poppy. We are all very upset and worried as to where she is. Just hope that if someone has her they have the decency to try and look for us. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
