Never give up hope. Dogs have returned homed after 2/4 years having been scanned and chip details checked.  If she disappeard from the garden at 10pm could she have been stolen rather than escaped?  Do you have any traveller sites near you. Put posters on their gate if there are, or ask the council lliasion officer to look into it for you.  She is a beautiful dog and I do so hope that she, one day, gets back home to you.

Its so hard for you after all this time but Spice is chipped and i really hope that a vet will have need to scan her maybe as a new dog coming in for jabs etc. You have done so much to try and find her- but please take comfort in dogs reunited after many many months away. A tattoo is another visual means of identification and yes there are tracking collars but can be expensive and will help with a missing dog but if stolen then can still be removed in time.   All you can do is keep her details up to date and publicise as much as you can. Someone somewhere must know where she is and t only takes one person to make the connection.   CJLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is Spice,s mum calling. I do not know how to add  any comments on her page. Please advise if possible. My precious dog has now been missing 9months,and inspite  of all efforts no news of her. I now have her half brother who nearly 10 weeks old.Hewill be microchipped as soon as possible, and I hope we  shall have no need to use it. Can you advise if there any other methods of protecting one,s dog from mishap/theft, e.g. tracking devices?  Thank you for your help so far.   Janet King

Well, I put up posters in Thicket road and a lady there does not think it is Spice - we will see what the postman thinks when he sees the poster?

This dog in Thicket Road Crystal Palace is only 17miles away from here.  And she has had 3 months today to get there!
Also two blokes two weeks after Spice went missing stopped me at Queen Mary's hospital in response to the poster in my car window and said they had seen two other blokes parked up in Catford looking/behaving weird with a dog like ours. But it was 2 hours ago by then and I did not know where to go to follow it up or what I would do if I got there.
This original Catford possible sighting is not far from this dog that is in Crystal Palace. Maybe Spice was dumped by these guys and has been surviving?
The coat sounds too long, but the postman says the dog is mostly black which Spice is, and we have had thick snow. I know my horse looks like a woolly mammoth in winter.
I think I will have to go up there and drop some posters and see what I can see. I notice the Crystal Palace park intercepts on the reported road directly - may be the dog has a den or hiding place in the park?

No unfortunately not. How sad it is. I cannot believe how she could just vanish. I hope the person who has got her or who knows something about her whereabouts can sleep as night knowing the devastation this causes to a family. We put a new advert in the news shopper paper this week with up to 1000 pound reward as advised by the dog warden, to no avail.
AlD has had an article run about them featuring Spice in the Dartford Times - still no luck.

Any news re your beautiful Spice ?  I know exactly what you are going through - see lost GSD Chelsea !  As I continue looking and following every lead for her I will also keep Spice in my mind.  Never give up and always follow any lead.  Every day is just one day nearer finding them.  x x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately/fortunately neither were Spice. The female that was caught was a beautiful big black Alsation.
The one on the road did not have a microchip.
We are going to renew our posters and hope someone gives her up.

I had 4 calls about Spice this morning. Turned out to be 2 separate reports. One good news - someone has caught a dog looking very like Spice and has her at home. One very bad news - a newly dead German Shepherd on the central reservation of the A20 - right next to our small holding by the sound of the location described. I hope it was not her making her way home and she has got killed? Am trying to get investigations on these 2 leads from work. I hope it is the positive one and not the negative. Please pray!  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to Spice's 'family' this evening but, sadly still no sign of Spice. They had a call last Friday (I believe) about a GSD running around somewhere in Orpington. They went there & saw the dog but, unfortunately, not Spice. They were unable to see whether it's male or female but were concerned as it ran into the road in front of a bus at one stage. Apparently police and DWs (or maybe DW service) have been alerted but it seems they're not interested or able to help and so don't know the outcome. Spice's family are still looking and hoping for her return and may put another missing ad in the local paper.

Hi - thanks for the information. I have spoken to the Essex dog warden who is going up to kennels to take a picture of this lass. She doesn't think it sounds like ours as this one has a dusky tan head. We'll see.
DH and I went to Farningham woods this morning at 8am for a walk with chicken and a squeaky toy. No signs. There was a chap walking 2 long haired Alsations though - who says he has been looking - he is there every day. Maybe it was one of these that was seen? We'll try again tomorrow - some workmen said that they hear a dog yelping at night in the woods on the other side of the valley.

Just heard a report on Alfie's Lost dogs that while someone was out looking for Farrah - the poodle, that one of the party saw an GSD on its own over Canada Heights/Farningham Woods/Swanley village area. No description and not sure if it was Spice. We were told at 10pm last night and parents in law went over today. But no signs of it today.

Do you mean Ruby? It says that Ruby was brought there on 28th - we lost Spice late that night. Spice was also already spayed, so it does not look like it is her - sadly.
Looks like a nice girl. Hope she finds a new home soon.

Thanks so much for eliminating this dog from our inquiry.
I do hope that this baby finds her home soon too.
I am having no luck with checking out the dog found at East Lindsey - I left a message for the dog warden, but no reply.

Hopeful, that's good news. I always hate raising the possibility but it needs to be done as the thought can often be in the back of the people's minds but who are reluctant to make that call. It's good of you to do it on behalf of your mother-in-law. Whilst on the subject, did you speak to the street cleansing dept at the Council, as this is another line that needs to be covered and ruled out? Hope this weekend brings the call you've been waiting for.

I heard something interesting but disturbing which might be another angle to check out  is that GSD's can be "taken" to be used by people wanting to get jobs as security guards  as they prefer them to have dogs -- so,  maybe you could find out the security companies listed  in the area and watch to see if she is spotted. It was a guy at a dog rescue  who mentioned this when I spoke to him. Would hate to think Spice has been taken, but  in the same vein felt I had to pass this on just as another possible way of finding herLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She was last seen heading on the road between Asda and the M25 in the M25 direction by the petrol station. Then there is no trail after that. This bit of information only came in yesterday morning.
I have been out this morning and given out 200 flyers on car windows at Asda and the market. It is market day today and I have asked some of the traders to put up flyers and spoken to lots of them. It is really busy in Swanley today.
I have also been down the road to the M25 and put up a few more places along the road.
The council CCTV in inaccessible for dogs apparently.
I have also contacted network rail today.

One of our co-ordinators has spotted details of a young, female GSD on East Lindsey councils website (sorry, I don't know where East Lindsey is - some way off, I suspect, but still worth checking). There's no photo at present - just a description:

I spoke with Hopeful last night. The whole family are making sure everyone knows about Spice and they are still busy postering and handing out mini flyers to all and sundry. The sightings of Spice took place on the night she went missing (unfortunately the family didn't find out about the sightings until days later). They know from a neighbours CCTV in which direction Spice was heading on the day she escaped - I believe it was towards the nearby Asda supermarket. I also believe I'm right in saying that the staff monitoring the CCTV footage at the Asda store have refused to check their film to ascertain whether Spice was picked up by someone in the supermarket car park. I would suggest that they try again and perhaps go along in person to speak to the Manager to let him/her know how much Spice means to the family. I was also suggested that they call Network Rail just in case (have told them to make sure that they get a reference number) and also to call their Council's (Sevenoaks) street cleansing dept. Hopefully they can then rule these out and move forward with the search. I have also suggested that their blitz the Asda car park with mini flyers printed onto brightly coloured paper (I found BRIGHT orange has worked really well in the past). As always, good luck in finding Spice!

Thanks Helen,
Is quite similar, but I don't think it is Spice. I think Spice has less white flecks though the back and more black on legs. Her face has a quite distinct pattern on it. Just subtle marking differences. I will show my mother in law though, just to be absolutely sure.

Thank you very much for your help. I know that there was a lot of confusion between parties the night we phoned as someone else had registered the dog on here straight away - I think the lady that found this dog, so the lady at the kennels could not understand how we knew anything about the dog she had picked up at 5.30pm.
Of course, between the 28th and the 3rd, our dog would have been out for several nights by then and seemed to match the description of Spice, bar the microchip. Without being able to see the markings it was hard to let it go without checking.
I know it was miles away, but we live very close to the M25, so anything could have happened.

Have spoken to Pam @ Carlton Forest myself at length about the dog that was picked up- the same day as owners called at night. Unfortunately my post has not registered so will try again. The dog that Pam collected from Nottingham had been loose for a few days before been caught. It is not chipped (Pam checks herself) The dogs colouring also different. If you send a fax to the telephone number she will receive it. She did tell me that she had collected dog at 5.30pm. There is only Pam that you will speak to, she personally checks all the dogs. As other co-ordinators know I personally know Pam & visit these kennels normally every weekend. I will be down there again on Saturday. Pam will help where she can to reunite dogs with their owners, if anyone can get to the kennels before me on Saturday- please do. Pam is not evasive or unhelpful- just very busy. re carlton kennels. try ringing again and if possible speak to someone else. Ask if they have email- if so send them a picture. If they have internet access give them the web site and ID number and ask that they look.  For your own peace of mind you need to know. Kennels should realise that dogs get picked up and often taken out of their own areas. Scanners might miss a chip or it may have moved. Just keep trying . CJ Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Helen, got your text. Unfortunately, Tiny is not Spice. Spice has bigger paws and a smaller head/ears and is a much lighter tan, almost sandy/white with virtually no black on her legs. As you say Spice's facial markings are lighter than Tiny's. It would have been lovely and there is no harm in checking.  Keep looking!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I emailed Foal Farm - thanks for the suggestion. I think my mother in law phoned them, but a poster might help. More eyes the better as you say. I also phoned Gables kennels and the Nook (both answering machine) and Button Street kennels. One of the neighbours is helping to poster today. Unfortunately I am at work today, on call at the hospital. Not sure how I will keep going - up til 2 last night making posters. I am not sure where the energy is coming from. I hope our baby is tucked up in her bed, in the warm kitchen, with a full tummy, next to her older sister, and this nightmare is over very soon! Also I tried to follow up the lead on the found page and the woman at Calton Forest Kennels is not forthcoming. I'm so sorry to hear that such a vile person has done this to you. Obviously some sicko with nothing better to do with their time. It's a good job that decent, caring people out number the idiots. Still I suppose it's gives them something to do with their dull, little lives! However, it's great news that there has been two positive sightings of Spice. Hopefully, with more people around at the weekend and especially once they've had time to look through their News Shopper, you will receive the call you've all been waiting for. Good Luck!

Unfortunately we have just had a sick joke played on us. Some evil person has phoned several times on reverse charges giving a name address and telephone number saying they had found Spice, and it turned out to be a wild goose chase. The poor woman we went to see was horrified that she had also been targeted by this person.
How COULD they DO THIS??????
Good news is that a taxi driver I gave a flyer to said that his sister had tried to catch Spice on Friday night up the road. Why she did not call the police I do not know? And another sighting by the Park Vets in Swanley the same night.

Have just seen Spice's missing ad in this week's News Shopper - nice and big and noticeable! Well done for moving so quickly and getting her in this week's edition, as I know their cut-off for ads is Monday morning. I believe their circulation is in excess of 200,000 and so Spice will receive plenty of additional coverage! The News Shopper was responsible for bringing Samson, the SBT (missing from Beckenham) home last Summer and so hope the same will apply for Spice. Come on girlie, show your gorgeous face!

Hi, thanks for the posters. We have put up a lot as on our link below and previous versions that I did initially on Saturday when she first went missing.
I have changed the land line phone number to my mother in law's 01322 662233 as it is her dog. She is not coping very well with the loss of Spice, so my husband and I are taking much of the burden of postering and advertising as we can also use the internet to spread the word.
Thanks again for all the kind words.

Hopeful, thanks for posting. I think it's definately worth checking out the found GSD, as many of our missing dogs have ended up much further afield. As we always say on DL, leave no stone left unturned! And yes, chips can and do migrate to other parts of the dog's body and some do not show up at all. It's good to hear that Spice is also spayed and tagged. I haven't looked at your posted link but here is a list of places to poster and target: all parks and green spaces, pubs, sorting offices & postmen, milkmen, schools, mini cab offices, takeaways, vets, rescues, boarding kennels, supermarkets (place mini flyers on windscreens), place posters in your car windowns and ask your family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues to do the same, your local railway stations (hand mini posters out to commuters), petrol stations, dog training classes, community halls, hospitals, etc. Try to visit pubs at lunchtime or early evening when they tend to be less busy. Ask the Manager to display poster both inside the pub & on windows facing the pavement. Hand mini posters to pub regulars and customers - they will have plenty of local contacts and will be a mine of information. Also place a missing ad in your local most popular newspaper(s). Just poster like mad - at least 200 for starters and make Spice the best known and hottest girl in town. Keep us up to date on where you have covered and let us know about any possible sightings. Good Luck - hope it won't be long until Spice is back home.

Hopeful
Hello. Thanks for the welcome. We have put up lots of posters, although the town suddenly seems very large and there seem to be millions of places she could have gone. My mother in law has contacted the local dog warden and police and the Battersea line. We speak to everyone we can to pass the word. Do chips ever stop working or malfunction? I notice on the 'found dogs' someone has found a black and tan 18month old female German shepherd in Nottingham this week. Is it worth ringing them, even though it says no chip is present? It is a long way away, but I wonder if she sould have travelled in a lorry or something - or am I just being desperate?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
