Fantastic news! Well done to all emergency services involved. Although I wouldn't fancy brushing her teeth if she's been surviving on sheep poo! Whoever has that job good luck :o) xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Fantastic news & well done to police & rescue for liasing & bringing her home. She's done extremely well to survive on the hills as they are quite bleak. No doubt she'll be glad of food & proper bed now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh ! What a brilliant ending. Thank for letting us know Owl. Must say thank you to the local police for emailing the rescue teams on this one otherwise Gemma may never have been recognised. Then a thank you to the team who brought her down. I'm sure she will make a speedy recovery now she is back with her family. Welcome home Gemma xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Gemma is home! The mountain rescue team went out to look for some missing walkers and found her on Fri 27th not far from where she went missing. The missing walkers were also found close by. Emma was just sitting there, and one of the rescue team recognised her from an email sent by local police to all the mountain rescue people. There is a small item about her in the Daily Mirror today, and there was a bit in the Sunday Times as well. She appears to have been living on sheep droppings, she is thin and tired and has a wound on her leg which is being treated, and she is very glad to be home.

Owners were visiting the Lake District National Park, walking half-way up Scafell. Gemma, rang off down the mountain through into the Valley South of Scafell at approximately 2pm on Saturday 14th June, was seen briefly by other walkers and not seen since.
She still had her black extendy lead attached on a red harness on her. She also has a red collar on with white bones around it with a name tag with owners mobile phone number and address on.
She is a very friendly, affectionate dog who loves people. She is quite small for a rottweiler, aged approximately 18 months, is black/tan in colour and has a docked tail and the traditional markings of the breed.

It may be worth postering main walking centres & asking moorland rescue for help with finding Gemma. Scafell has some very remote areas but is very popular with walkers. Fingers crossed you have some good news soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Can you confirm details as logged by someone in Leicestershire but missing from Lake District? Was this dog on holiday in Lake District and went missing from there or has a family member reported missing? Thanks Vicki x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
