Mumbo Charlie, don't lose heart, I know it is hard not to, but you will be able to find him and get him home. I wish that I was slightly closer so that I could come and help, even if it was only with a hug. Holly eluded us for nearly 4 weeks and we would go days without anyone seeing her so I know how your mind works on this, but you have to keep faith with your lovely boy and he WILL come home. Now Charlie, come on boy, time to stop the fun and games camping and get home to Mum. XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry - hit the wong button. in Exactly the same place as before - whilst on the phone to me he and his wife managed to edge the dog into a garden only to find that this was the owner who then came to the door. The chap on the phone said his collar was silver (Charlies was red) and finally they seem to agree that this was a bitch and the real owner confirmed that the dog does get out to the rubbish bins. The chap on the phone confirmed that he first saw it round the aforementioned bins so I have to conclude this is the same dog everyone sees but its not Charlie. This would explain why it disappears as it just goes home around the corner. I called the first lady who started this and she was naturally sad and commented that they dont look after the dog very well....however when I asked the chap on the phoneif the dog seemed thin he said not. My instincts now take me back to the railway tunnel scenario since I cant help thinking he would have been found by someone by now. Am putting an advert in the local paper in one last ditch attempt - unless any of you can come up with any other ideas. I dont know where to look now and just about all areas, footpaths, woods and bridleways around us are covered by posters and friends spreading the word. Whenever we walk and stop people they always say theyve seen the poster and are looking out. A sad but somewhat resigned mum of Charlie.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mumbo - how are you going with your search ,have you been able to set up a feeding point with the lady with the bins yet? I do hope that you will get the breakthrough that you need very soon, it is a game of patience and planning but it will pay off to do this to regain his trust. Good luckLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mumbo Charlie.I so hope this is Charlie. All the advise on here is brilliant. I know how you feel as far as wanting to grab him if you see him. When Picalo's mum & I were staking him out we had to really resist the temptation to just rugby tackle him ,but knew that this could spook him out of the area for good & we would have been back to square one. The time & patience approach is the only sure way. It's so hard but I'm sure you'll get your boy. Fingers crossed for you. X Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hey! I really hope that you manage to coax him in. I've been trying to get a viewing of Sia all week.....since she was "possibly" spotted on Tuesday. Its hard work, but hopefully it will pay off....! Fingers crossed for you. Definitely try the triangle thingy - we are giving it a go this weekend, seeing if we can plot the third part of the triangle! Muntjack have SOOO much to answer for!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mumbo Charlie, you are doing all the right things and as Yasa say's building up a pattern really does help, this is what we tried to do with Holly and we got her back safe and sound. Good luck over the weekend, I'm not going to be able to check much as I'm away but I look forward to seeing him in the blue when I come back. Charlie, come n boy lets have you home safe and sound, keep strong all of you. Love ZuzLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mumbo Charlie, its brilliant that Charlie is regularly seen by the bins. You need to work out which area Charlie is travelling by plotting his sightings on a map. You need an Ordnance survey map of the area to do this properly. Most dogs will move in a triangle, trying to pick up a scent they know. You already have twp points, the place he was lost originaly, and the bins. You may also have some more sightings by now, and if you can work out his route, you may possibly be able to get in front of him. However, if he is at the bins regularly, as suggested earlier, by Angus, set up a safe place with his blanket, water bowl, and feeding station. Food needs to be layed twice a day at regular times in order to get him returning to that spot. Usually early morning and late afternoon to dusk. If the safe place can be made like a den, you may even get him to sleep there. You need really smelly food. Pilchards, or sardines from the tin, and fresh tripe are ideal. Also leave items of your dirty clothing by his blankets. Something like socks or old shoes are ideal. Maybe this den or safe place could be placed near the bins, but just inside the ladie's garden if she would allow. But you must not rush this, or allow anyone to try to grab Charlie. If this happens you will destroy his faith in that safe place forever, and he will be off. It may take several days or weeks to set up the patern, and know when he will appear. This is going to be your next step now. If you would like instructions of riangle plotting and scenting please PM me your email address. Good luck though. You are well on the way to getting Charlie home xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh I really hope this is Charlie and that you get him back soon. Like Angus says though, he will probably not recognise you and there are ways to go about this that will have a much higher chance of success. Get in touch with someone at admin and they will give you all the information you need. It would also be good, like Angus said, if you could get the lady to leave food for him (1) because it will make him more likely to come back and (2) because you'll know he's at least getting some feed meantime. I'm not sure its such a good idea that the lady tries to catch him as it might scare him away permanently. I think a softly softly approach is required here. You are doing a great job but like I say, contact admin and get some proper advice and I'm sure you'll have him home soon. I hope you get your gorgeous man home soon - good luck xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is he moving in the classic triangle? Then you may be able to watch, wait and lay food as suggested in that area. Good luck xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi this sounds like good news, hope this is a postive sighting for you, would you be able to ask the lady to lay food for you at a regular time so that he gets used to coming back to the same spot at the same time, might be easier for you to be able to see him. Please remember that he may not recognise you immediatly and take advice from your area coordinator or head office on exactly what to do and how you must behave in order to safely capture him. Good luck Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone - sorry Ive been 'incommunicado' but had a really positive lead on Wed lunchtime. Lady phoned to say that a brown and white dog had been regularly seen around her rubbish bags and her husband when walking their dog had often had this dog sniffing around UNFORTUNATELY only saw my poster after he left around 11am Wed morning. So we are camping out on this vast housing estate - postered even more - walking around calling but he hasnt re appeared YET. The family concerned are seriously looking for him now and will grab him regardless and phone us. They said this dog is getting thinner - if its him it breaks my heart but please God it is him and finally he will reappear. But where on earth does he go during the day? Ive been out with squeeky toy and my other dog and so have all my friends and we stop everyone in the street - so what else can we do.... Keep hoping everyone.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am sorry that I haven't been in touch before (blame "Holly AL5") but I wish you all the luck getting Chalie back (which you will). It does seem really hard to just wait for sightings, but believe me there will be a happy result. Come home Charlie, Mum's waiting for you. Lots of loveLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am sorry to hear that Charlie is missing. One of my dogs chased a dear before and was gone awhile, fortuneately returned on her own. The fact that he is microchipped and tagged is briliant, hope he will be found and returned to you soon, stay positive, stay safe Charlie and hope your home soon. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Jeepsmi and thanks everyone - I did ask my dustmen this morning and also caught my postman who took a poster back for the sorting office. Exhausted from walking the woods again but the lady who phoned me had already put poster in one part of woods I hadnt been to. Tomorrow got a group of friends to come and we'll spit up over the many woods that are around that area of Broxbourne - shall spend tonight making more posters to slap everywhere! Wish me luck this weekend - at least the walkers will be out and will see the posters.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Get up early and visit your local postal sorting office. The postmen will be there around 6am. Give them smaller posters to keep on them in case they spot Charlie. Do the same at the place your dustbin men start. Again you need to be there around 6am. If you are out that early, look for milk floats and hand out posters to the drivers. Sorry I can't be of more practical help, I'm too far away, but hoping and praying you get Charlie back very soon. Julie xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Me again - just had two calls about a possible sighting and both come from the area around Bencroft Woods/Wormley woods which is where I would imagine he would be lost in so this gives me renewed hope he's alive and lost. Last sighting Wed 11.30 off Bencroft woods - lady saw our poster afterwards sadly not before. She now has a poster herself and is looking out for him and calling his name. Keep fingers crossed even more!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks very much Staffy Girl - who knows where he could end up - we have walked the fields, postered all around Cuffley, Hammond Street, Rosedale (where someone called me to say they had seen a "white Spaniel" around the rubbish bags but no sign once we got there) and beyond. We have contacted all the local and not so local vets in the area and all the other things Jayne advised. Almost now got to the point of just waiting - which is awful - but ever hopeful. Yes, Rosie is back safe and sound thank goodness. We postered everywhere very quickly but Charlie is missing under very different circumstances and am sure he has been taken in by some kind person rather than some nasty person and they just need to be made aware that he already has a loving home and is missed terribly. Ian's mobile number is 07799 385253 if we are not in. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Mumbo Charlie. We live in the village and walk our dog every day in the Ponsbourne Woods and village so will keep a keen eye out for Charlie. I would poster outside the school and surrounding area as quickly as possible as children may have spotted him or perhaps someone local taking him in. Please call us 873490 if we can help in any way at all. We have a laminating machine and could help make posters and distribute. We had our dog stolen so know the route all too well for a quick return. Very best of luck and please call in you need us. Jane.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
