Great news that she has been found, but a word of warning: podencos are veritable houdinis and love to roam, esp at night. I had two in Ibiza years ago, and they would escape through a tiny square finca window eight feet up in the wall... from anywhere we tried to confine them, really! And they were sometimes spotted at dawn on the other side of the island, which is approx 20 miles x 38 miles. On the other hand, they always found their way back, even if they went missing off a beach we'd never driven to before! They are great hunters, it's bred into them for over 2500 years - and they will kill chickens and chase sheep. So you need to be extremely vigilant since if she gets a taste for excursions, it's going to be hard to stop her!

Good luck with her, so pleased you saved her. Every time I go over I find loose podencos which I wish I had the money to save... There's a big hunter/breeder down in the campo south of San Jose who chucks out any which get injured to fend for themselves - he makes my blood boil. They are immensely rewarding dogs, with the sweetest nature - I've never met a bad one, no matter how harshly they have been treatedLast edited: 2011-09-02 12:19:34 by CorbiereW

Great news. Welcome home Tasca xx
Carol
Hi have today rang both the RSPCA and the Dog Wardens, who say "they apologise if this was the case (are they saying that the lady is a liar!!) and will look into the matter for me" will keep you informed as to what excuses they come up with xx
Chris

Spoke to Tascas delighted owner a few minutes ago. She thanks everyone on DogLost and offers us any help we might need in the future. Welcome home Tasca and stay safe forever more.
Carol
Hi, just to let everyone know that Tasca is home!!! A lovely lady found her in Groby which is about 4 miles away. Tasca is very tired, WAS very hungry, but has since had a large dinner, and is now fast asleep with her rabbit (see small photo above, that is what she looks like now lol) would so like to thank everyone involved for all their help, but not the RSPCA or the local dog wardens as the lady says that she had contacted both a couple of times!! And they have not been in touch with me, Tasca could well have been home sooner had they done so. Thanks again everyone for your help and support xxx much love Carol and Tasca xxxx

Carol
Hi Ellie, rang the Parkvets, but they assured me that it was not Tasca :( put some more posters around today xx
Ellie
Spoken to owner this morning as a dog was found last night in the Braunstone area, although she did not match Tascas description, I have advised her to ring vet where dog was taken, as with a rare breed people can be confused.
Carol

Going to have a look around arboretum/ stoughton road area now, thanks Chris for the info
Ellie
I have spoken to the owner Tasca managed to push through gate when someone came in anout 6 pm on Saturday. She is wearing a collar and tag. She is microchipped to Paws Kennel in Spain where she was rescued from 10 days ago. She is an Ibizian Hound or Pondeco. Am emailing all info to owners and they will forward a photo. They have contacted authorities and made people in the area aware - feel she may have been taken in as an unusual dog.
Chris
I put on FB earlier today, before it went up on here, and had this message from a friend in Leics area:
"... about 8PM Saturday evening we were coming home from dropping my Mum in Oadby. As we drove down Stoughton Lane next to the Arboretum heading back towards Leics there is a field next to the Arboretum.I noticed what I thought was a fox coloured small dog in the field on it's own it had pointy up ears, then it started leaping through the grass and I thought I was mistaken and that it was a Muntjac Dear, although it looked a bit stocky for a Dear and the ears seemed wrong. Now I'm wondering, although if it is the Pondenco I have no idea how it would have reached Oadby? ..."
The activity described would be typical Podenco hunting style in grass. I've no idea of the geography of the place described in relation to where she went missing from tho, as I'm in neighbouring Notts. Google seems to suggest Oadby is in LE3 which is listed as place missing from? actually, looks to be c. 7 miles from place lost: tho not so far for a quick moving dogLast edited: 2011-08-29 14:38:55 by Chris
