Great news.Welcome home Jet xxxx
Jetdaddy
Thanks, everyone for your kind wishes and comments. It's been a roller-coaster ride, but the kindness shown by everyone in contact over the last few days really does restore faith in humanity. As as for animal faith? - Jet seems to be very, very happy.
I would say to anyone who is looking for a lost dog, don't give up. Sheer dogged determination gets results.

BRILLIANT NEWS - Over to the blue - Posters again playing a big part in getting Jet home xx
Jetdaddy
YEEEEES! Result!! We found him in a field outside Clifford, the other side of Boston Spa. He is OK - a bit thinner and limping a bit on his back right, but otherwise just fine. He seems very, very happy to be reunited with my son - he came straight to him.
A huge thank you to all of you who gave excellent support and a lot of really good advice. The main thing that got him was sheer determination - putting up hundreds of posters over a wide area and hoping for a sighting to then narrow the search. Then even more posters in the area. Talking to people, driving the area again and again. In the end, I got a call from a lady who was out cycling and thought she saw him in a field. She telephoned me and I went immediately. Fortunately he was still there and he came to my son. Very, very relieved. Great news!

I live about 5 mile from Howden so I will keep my ears and eyes open for him
DogLostReynard
Yes Jetdaddy his homing instinct may take him 'home' if hes not been long with you, & he was particaly happy there?
If your quick with the scent he may stay in this area and food (& water) is very important.
I would suggest not too much calling and probably whistling (this depends on how well he responded to this before and may now not associate this whistling with you) as dogs hear this as just general noise & may even think he is in trouble for running off, dogs can go 'feral' very quickly and 'enjoy' there freedom hunting etc. Your getting calls so thats good , keep the postering up as thats very important.
If he is on his way home try and get ahead of him with the postering then you will get calls and not miss him on route, also contact that areas Dog Warden , and scent the area (you may need 'old' owners scent if he is very new to you),,,also at his 'old' home get them ready to welcome him leave a door open, food etc. Last edited: 2011-06-14 16:42:36 by Reynard

Hi Everyone, thanks for your comments. Jet is microchipped, I believe in the neck, but not tattoo'd. We had a further sighting of him at about 11am today (Tuesday). This was Bar Lane, which links the A659 just out of Boston Spa to the village of Clifford. I was at work at the time, but managed to get over there about 2 hours later and drove around all the roads, looking in fields, using the whistle and talking to people, giving out leaflets, putting more posters up, etc. He has therefore crossed the A1 at some stage (or gone under it) and seems to be heading steadily East. I think he could be making his way back to Howden, near Goole, where he came from originally, but alternatively he could just be wandering around without direction. Does anyone have any views on whether a 5-year old dog would (or would want to) try and get back to his original home - it's about 15-20 miles south-east of where we lost him from our home. I got the Scenting instructions, thanks. There may be something in this. At least people have seen the posters and have responded to them positively. They are unable to entice him near to catch him, so he evades capture. Some good news, however.

I have family in Thorner so I've forwarded the link to them. Stay safe Jet. Hope he's home soon. x

Jetdaddy, when you say that Jet is "microchipped" in the ear, is that correct or do you mean he has a tattoo in his ear?
DogLostReynard
Again good news ,,,have sent owner scenting & plotting info.
BBKM
Hope Jet is home soon. Has he had 3 positive sightings yet to form his triangle x
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Have you been emailed scenting instructions? Would highly recommend scenting the field(s) where he's been spotted to try and keep him in the area. Also leave the contents of your vacuum cleaner bag or an item of clothing with your scent on in the field. If you spot him yourself DON'T chase after him, instead sit or lie on the ground and whimper, avoiding eye contact and hopefully this will make him curious enough to come closer to investigate. Good luck x

East Keswick is North East of Leeds, about 4 miles from where we lost him (our home). Further good news - I received another call later today saying he was seen in fields between Thorner and East Rigton - not too far from the first sighting and on Friday. He wouldn't come to the gentleman and this could be a problem. He would rather run off and carry on hunting. If he could be caught and his chip read, he would be reunited straight away. Catching hold of him is the problem. We continue to drive endlessly around the likely areas hoping to see him, but it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.
DogLostReynard
oh! good news then Jet daddy , where is East Keswick?
Jetdaddy
I have received a telephone call this morning, Monday 13th, that a black cocker spaniel was seen in the East Keswick region on Thursday morning 9th June. He is likely to be making his way East from there. If anyone is in that region, please keep a look-out for him. Thanks
Jetdaddy
Thanks to all of you. We are blitzing the area with posters in the hope it will jog someone's memory and give us a lead. Please spread the word amongst all your friends. Feel free to print out and put up some posters in your area if you think it would help. Still hoping. Still smiling. xxx

Make sure to leave a gate/door open so that he has access incase he returns overnight. Also, ask neighbours to check their gardens, sheds etc incase he has got locked in somewhere. Hope he's home soon x
