As I was following the link to Cassie`s fence petition, I came across this. I hope these undesirables get their comeuppance in the hereafter too. Sorry to hear the loss of Scamp, but at least we know she is safe in God`s care. Night, n ight, sweetheart, sleep tight; await your owners at the bridge when the time is right. RIP Scamp;+++ Kind regards to your family too. God Bless

FULL STORY NOW ON SITE.

please see Notice board ( yellow bar) then news and events and see the complete story of what happened behind the scenes.
shows what can happen when you get a police force taking dog theft seriously acting bringing culprits to justice.

I hope the tv report opened lots of eyes tonight of what actually goes on, it needs to be shown nationwide and yes, would be fantastic if all police forces took it as seriously as Kent police, well done everyone. RIP little Scamp.x.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0071ms1 - hopefully if you copy and paste that, it will link to the iplayer, showing the programme. Nigel & Cathy - yes if only all police forces were as proactive as Kent. We're all a little mystified at Sussex's 7 thefts in a year... we should count up all those on here already.

Fantastic report on Inside Out - South East - well done to all. Really shows what can be done if we all work together!

If this case stops just one dog being stolen or held to ransom it will be worth all the stress and worry. I am sure now seeing his page back on our site will bring back the terrible christmas 2008 his owners had. I was one of the lucky ones, I did get to meet Scamp. Agree 100% with Sherlock Bones, both Melanie and Kent Police were brilliant.

Hope that Scamp's story brings more dogs home. It was without a doubt the most stressful and harrowing case I've had to deal with to date. Owner Melanie has been amazing throughout, as were Kent Police. Only sorry that I never got to meet Scamp in person. I hope, whereever he is at Rainbow Bridge, he's looking down on those we haven't yet found. xx

DINKEYDOODLE-Yes we will put a link as soon as available for areas unable to watch on BBC south east areas.

Hoping that after this programme the ordeal court cases etc - lasting last few years -can now be a final to this horrid ordeal and that Melanie and her family can put this behind them looking back only on the happier times spent with scamp . CJ

Just been on radio BBC S/E with Scamps owner and the brave police officer Melissa who did the "sting" and got Scamp back. They are having a follow up interview with Melissa shortly...then tonight BBC inside out S/E will be featuring the case.

I am Scamps Mum. I would like to thank the two co-ordinators at Doglost for their support throughout our ordeal and whilst bringing the scumbags to justice... One received a prison sentence and the other received a community order. It was a very long process, but so worth every minute! Our darling Scamp can finally rest in peace. How sad for all concerned that little Scamp is now at the bridge, after all he went through. Well done the owners for sharing his story with the country, it is very brave of you. Can anyone put on a link to this after it is shown on BBC please? Run free Scamp, no more suffering now.x.

This is so tragic, I hope these thugs get whats coming to them, my thoughts and prayers are with Scamp's family, run free at the bridge little man xx

Scamps page has been bumped due to media coverage telling the story of the ordeal for him and his family. This will be shown on MONDAY NIGHT on BBC1 south east at 7.30pm.

Sadly, there is still no happy ending for Scamp, as when he returned to Melanie and her family, he was never the same dog and showed signs of brain problems, leading to repeated fits. On January 6 2010 he suffered a large fit from which he never recovered. Melanie and her family, however, were determined that in his memory, Scamp’s ordeal should still be told and his thief brought to justice. Doglost would like to thank all those involved at Kent Police for their assistance in bringing this matter to a successful conclusion.

Wonderful news!  Welcome home Scamp.  These people should be discouraged from ever thinking they can do this kind of thing.  Well done Kent Police again, wish they were like this across the country. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Awesome News - this is the greatest late Christmas present that this family.  The Police have been fantastic for all their involvement on this one and this should send a message to the thieves that they could get caught and prosecuted. Yes it's true!  After 3 terrible nights of late night/early morning phone calls from someone holding Scamp (including Christmas Day), Scamp has been recovered safe and sound by Kent Police. Melanie has had a truly horrible time enduring these calls, which were from any time after 11pm right through to 3am.  Fortunately, she despite her distress, listened to advice, and worked with Kent Police to get Scamp back at 3am this morning: Kent Police went undercover and managed to arrest the person making the calls plus 2 accomplices and one more arrest is expected. They had demanded Melanie meet them with ?10,000.  We can't thank Kent Police enough for taking this crime seriously and for all my coordinators on here for working so well with Melanie to make sure she not only stayed sane but that Scamp was found safe.  He is with Melanie's family in Folkestone at the present time and will be returned to Melanie today.  He hadn't been fed since he was taken but is otherwise said to be fit and well.  We are overjoyed at the outcome in this case and stress that this is a very unusual case - I personally haven't had a ransom demand so large in all the years I've been dealing with stolen dogs - and it shows just how much progress the Police have made in taking this matter seriously. Well done everyone - and welcome home, Scamp!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A4 poster and smaller ones requested by Reynard emailed to owner, SE Co-ordinator's, Reynard and LynnL.  Have added family member's telephone number to poster and updated his breed.  Once the posters start getting circulated and handed out fingers crossed owner gets the call we all want and we see him in the BLUE.  Good luck.  Jan x If anyone is able to help with the postering please let us know and the posters can be emailed to you. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Email from owner: Thanks for all your advice on how to find Scamp.  He is a 1 yr old terrier cross.  We live in Berkshire but are staying in Folkestone with my Mother in law.  We were planning to go back home today, but as you can imagine, my children are very distressed right now, so we are staying til tomorrow.  We have been to local parks, contacted vets, dog wardens, police etc.  We are also planning to do a door to door search this afternoon.  I am sending you a pic of our little darling.  If you have any more suggestions, please let me know.

Owner can you try and email picture of him to admin@doglost.co.uk and enter or email Scamp's breed (or cross breed) so you and we can get posters up in the area a.s.a.p. You need to contact Dog Warden and local Council kennels where he is likely to have been taken if found.  Go and look for yourself if you can to be sure.  Hand posters to postmen, binmen, milkmen, delivery men and get them up in bus stn., railway stn., Post Offices, newsagents, all local Vets, dog training places, shops, pet shops etc. to display.  Anywhere there are people. Also keep going back to where he disappeared from if out of house as he may return there.  Take familiar clothing/bedding and leave a little there if poss - keep checking.  Keep safe Scamp till you are safely home. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
