In fact here are live cameras http://www.nwlrf.org.uk/default.aspx?page=11781

I think North Wales police are in no doubt of the publics reaction to this and their FB page is drawing the worlds attention and not in a supportive way. I'd be interested to hear the transcripts between control and the officers involved plus CCTV footage of the traffic levels at 0300. Locals have already commented that road has very little traffic at that time in the morning.
Unknown
i have left a very strong message on the north wales police facebook page and i have also left a strong message on the RSPCA website asking if they are going to prosecute the officers as they would a local thug who ran down and killed a dog on purpose?? if everyone who puts an message on here does the same we might get something done, too late for this poor chap but it might save the next one
Viv B
I cannot believe police in this country could do such a thing. So, the dog was missing at the end of a hunt. Did the hunt organisers make any attempt to find the dog, or report it at all to the appropriate authorities? Agree with other views here. Just what can you hunt with dogs these days anyway?

Not easy to locate a hound that's got separated from its pack, but usually they are not afraid of people and gravitate towards farms and such. This one must have got confused. But the police excuses don't wash. They close roads, up to and including rush-hour motorways, for the slightest of reasons. Too late for this poor hound, but they should at least admit to a severe error of judgment, and declare it won't happen again.
Unknown
can anyone give the address for the police website? if everyone here sent them their disgust, they might realize just what they have started, it might save another dogs life one day
Unknown
I am sure many on here would put towards a fund to prosecute these mindless thugs, i know i would
Unknown
I think onlnt eh small minority would do something like this Mel. I agree with all your comments Jayelle. You are so right. Am so against foc hunting, and any blood sport. It`s all barbaric
BorderCol
Aren't Humans amazing. First they can take a pack of dogs and train them to hunt out and mercilessly chase down one small creature until it is ripped to pieces while still alive. Then they can abandon a lone dog in a strange place, leave it to try to find its way home and then run it over in cold blood.
digbysmum
Words fail me. Hope these two are named and shamed. Run free at the bridge, lovely dog - so sorry you had to die this way xxxx
Bo
The dog will have become separated from the pack and at the end of the hunting day I'm guessing they couldn't locate and everyone went home
Mel
Ps You have got to be a certain type of person to deliberately run over a dog or anything for that matter.
Mel
Do you know, sometimes I cannot believe what I read. A lot of the time I try not to read these horrific stories. Please can someone reassure me that this is not going to become a practice for dealing with loose, frightened animals on motorways. I go round trying to preserve creatures, be it a worm or dog etc at all costs. Ive read where traffic has been stopped on duel carriage ways for swans, so why kill a poor frightened dog. Finally, why go and leave the poor hound?
Bo
The dog was on a hunt (fox hunting) and had been left behind afterwards - North Wales police reported owners devastated but understand why they ran the dog over. Regardless as to if that's true or not - if this isn't challenged (and video footage from both the police vehicle and worn by the police must be available) then anyone could run over a dog or indeed any animal on purpose - with the excuse the animal was a danger to human life. Meanwhile in West Yorkshire http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/greyhounds-racing-around-streets-trying-10941622
this force saved these dogs lives in day time busy traffic ..... Gold star ✨
susieq666
Bet they're put out that it was microchipped and the owners now know what happened. Take it all the way, owners. Many will support you.
lost dogs North WalesRachel LDNWA
Apparently from outside of wales! I hope the owner sees this page and posts here to tell us what happened, very glad that 12 posted. I am REALLY CONCERNED that this case will set some sort of precedent for police here in North Wales to have in future for dealing with stray dogs. I thought animal welfare LAWS were there to be followed by all. Feeling very disappointed and upset :( RIP Hound x
Shelagh
It seems owners have been notified.
Bo
Just read the dog was microchipped as well - seems various other British police forces are posting on Facebook about their road closures and saving dogs in the last 48 hours - perhaps other Forces are making their feelings known as well.
JulieH
Words fail me ,heard the report on Radio 2,well done to Doglost spokesperson x
Shelagh
Have they scanned dog? Or did they just leave it there.! Hope owner can be traced, and prosecute them!.R.I.P sweet baby.
NickyB
like so many of you putting your comments I am absolutely furious at the police actions. and like so many of you I have stopped on quiet roads busy road main roads when seeing a stray dog. very very rarely have I succedded in catching the dog, usually it runs further and further away. WOULD LOVE TO SEE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF HOW YOU CAN KILL A STRAY DOG ON A DUAL CARRIAGEWAY WITH A CAR?
did 1 monster entice it to them then another monster ran it down? the police are there to defend the public - the ones involved here need naming and sacking - if this is how they treat a stray frightened lost dog heaven help the people they deal with. incidentally the local hunt remain silent about it being one of their many lost hounds......
Microchipyourdogs
Can we also have a photo of the dog bite as well!
Microchipyourdogs
Don't police cars have dash cams now, surely the RSPCA should be allowed to view this, these officers should be named and shamed.

I left a comment on North Wales Police Facebook page regarding this incident. I said it is nothing short of Murder. Even the M25 is not busy at that time of the morning, let alone a small A road. I think it is disgusting for what they did to that poor defenceless dog. It was stated the dog bit one of them, REALLY, or can we believe that and if it is true, what do they expect from a possibly lost or stolen dog that was running scared. They could have stopped any traffic, that is if there was any...... And chased the dog away from the road if they were unable to catch it. Would they have done the same if it had been a runaway HORSE which we sometimes see running in major roads. I agree the RSPCA should get involved and prosecute these people, mtgT is if you can call them people. They said they have dogs of their own, God help those dogs!!,,!, the story was on BBC News this morning and even reached BBC Essex Radio discussing it this morning. Words fail me....... RIP sweet one with no name that was murdered by two nasty men. Trust me not all humans are so cruel. X
billybob
I agree with all comments. So disappointed with the extreme actions of the NW Police. Thinking of this poor innocent dog and his/her owners.Last edited: 2016-04-16 13:00:27 by billybob

When did running an animal over and killing it become an option? And what sort of conversation went on between the police....'it is 3am and there's barely any traffic so we could put some road blocks up and chase it away' 'no, just run it over' Animals on the road can be a menace and surely are a pain in the backside but running them over! I think not UK
ClaireC
Bo - misunderstanding apologies
susieq666
Please name and shame. This horrified me - absolutely disgusting. I wonder if it was a lost hunt hound? (Or they thought it was.)
Bo
Claire C - Suggest you read my words - I didn't answer you I answered your quote on the BBC.
How a civilised police force deals with a dog on the road here- http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/hindhead-tunnel-closed-after-escaped-10489320
ClaireC
Bo suggest you read my post again. I was saying what was said on the TV and these are NOT my thoughts. I agree with the majority but just speechless.
Ollie's Mum
Speechless.
3.00 am the road must have been virtually empty. I agree with all the other comments surely they could have done something. This was obviously an easy option. Run the poor scared little dog over. RSPCA you need to take action to prevent it happening again.
Unknown
There is no excuse for the police to do this, what next a child running in traffic? the RSPCA is there to prosecute offences against animals and this is one case they should be on straight away, this was a disgusting and evil act made worse by the police trying to excuse it
Microchipyourdogs
So not only do they leave their police dogs in hot vans in summer to die now their running over and deliberately killing someone's dog which was running scared, what was wrong with closing the road and chasing it of to somewhere safer, as Rose says surely there was hardly any traffic at that time of the morning, they should be named and shamed , RIP little one.
Bo
Claire C - At 0300! No excuse - and to quote a well known phrase - " well they would say that wouldn't they"
As an aside - I've been on many closed roads at PEAK times due to animals on the road - I travel on average 30,000 miles a year.
No excuse.
Rose
Of course the police wouldnt have been able to control the dog, it was running scared. At 3am I wouldnt have thought there would be that much traffic and would have stopped if it was possible. This is just awful. Do we know if an owner has been found? x
Unknown
I don't think it will haunt them to be honest. To actually drive at a living breathing thing at speed with the intention to kill it is not the actions of a normal feeling human being. The dog bit an officer, yes because it was scared!. I just don't get it. Karma will catch up with them.
Mallory'smum
There is no defence. This poor dog can you imagine his thoughts as the car came towards him. Police should be prosecuted but they wont be. They have to live with their actions though. RIP Sweet doggie. So unnecessary.Last edited: 2016-02-24 08:50:21 by Mallory'smum

Fly high little one x

RIP xx
ClaireC
On breakfast news this morning and i quote "the 2 police involved were unable to bring the dog under control as it was running towards the traffic and made that decision. It was stated that they both own dogs and decision was not taken lightly". THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS BUT ON BBC1 REPORT.
Unknown
Agree with all the comments below. If guilty of this horrendous act , they should be sacked or resign. Presume RSPCA are aware? If so should be prosecuted. Police are not above the LAW

Nightie night, sleep tight, and have fun at the bridge where no one else can harm you. RIP+ God Blessx A~~~Candle burns for you sweetheart. Run freex(HUG) Now in the arms of God, and his AngelsLast edited: 2016-02-24 08:31:20
Bo
I'd say sadistic and whilst North Wales police are writing statements justifying this cruel unnecessary act of violence - their actions are now viral around the worlds media. I'm a massive police fan but this! Disgusting.
12
This was apparently at 3am - hardly a busy time for traffic - and anyone who lives near this road is used to being held up. This seems totally unnecessary and inhumane, aswell as dangerous
