poor little one God bless xx

Totally agree wensmum, the thoughts I have about what might have happened to Merlin are far worse than a photo of a deceased dog, and the closure you get must be worth a bit of initial shock, to me anyway.
wensmum
If this had been my dog, I would have felt grief, yes, that she was dead, but not that she had been disrespected. There is no worse place to be than a "missing owner" and these pictures are not, to us, any where near as what we can imagine happening to our dogs, or what we get told is happening to them by the "telephone trolls".
I am really, deeply grateful to all you folk who try all ways to get our friends back to us - please don't feel bad about these pictures - it is only us humans they distress, not the dogs - and that is what matters xx
wensmum
I'm so sorry, but as the owner of a long missing medium sized brown dog, I see a description of medium sized, brown dog deceased - I have my heart in my mouth. With the picture, I can see straight away this isn't mine instead of going through the torment of trying to fing out who reported it, where it is, get hold of them on the phone or by email - which has on some previous occasions taken even days.
These pictures are clearly posted for what they are - we don't have to look if the description doesn't match.
Labradorloopy, I do understand and respect your point - but I have to say I'm glad I'm not having to sit here waiting til it is a reasonable time to ring up and find if this is my dog - I'm already waiting on another 2 possibles (live!) and got one sorted yesterday which has taken weeks to resolve. I don't think there is any disrespect meant or taken in these pictures - it is just trying to provide closure for the owner; the dog is already at peace, and nothing will change that.
I hope you don't misunderstand me, but I'm really grateful for every second that I don't have to live through wondering if any particular sadly deceased dog is mineLast edited: 2016-01-07 08:20:16 by wensmum

That's a really helpful and interesting perspective Katiefox. Thanks for posting.
Sounds as though it is useful to post potentially distressing photos. Just so long as they are clearly flagged so people know what to expect and can choose not to view.

Thinking of you and all those looking for Chaos as well as the lost boy himself of course. I hope you get sightings again soon x

Not Chaos. Poor soul. It's unfortunate to view these pictures but us dog chasers have to stop and inspect roadkill daily. It's not nice but I haven't seen chaos once in the 8 weeks searching and I feel an instant glance to dismiss ( hopefully) is extremely helpful. I hope this poor souls owner hasn't given up and sees they are at peace now and has closure 😞

This poor soul wouldn't be Chaos , ID 94500. X

I totally agree labradorloopy.
I am the original poster and did not post the photos myself. I just stated that photos were available help with ID if neeeded.
Admin emailed me this morning and asked for the photos to check against missing dogs. I thought they were just going to look at them and did not know they were going to be posted publicly.
I was surprised to see the photo on here at lunchtime and I added the extra warning to the title so no-one would click through to here without being forewarned.

This is in NO WAY meant as a criticism of the Doglost admin team! You guys do an amazing job and your efforts are HUGELY appreciated by all of us.

However I think that labradorloopy has a point. It really would be better if photos like this could be held somewhere and only made available to view by express request and with a clear warning of the content.

I would be completely distraught to see a photo of my dog in this state. I would much rather be told by someone else who had seen the photo that it was a likely match.

Not sure if this discussion should happen on this page though. Is there somewhere else we can discuss this issue?

Labradorloopy I totally agree with everything you say .Please Admin take note of what is being said .

Is it just me or do others feel uncomfortable with photos of deceased dogs being publicly displayed? I somehow feel it's disrespectful. Presumably, if an owner is searching and recognises the description of a dead dog they could then be sent a photo individually. I can't see what benefit is gained from making these photos available online.

That would be a great idea slabcabbage to give this poor dog a nameLast edited: 2016-01-06 15:38:17

Adding this post for a friend who has sadly found a dead dog near her work in Fishguard. I said I would post details here in case it is a missing pet. At least we may be able to let someone know where their companion is.
It is not v recognisable but I am happy to give more details if useful for anyone. My friend has (quite graphic and distressing) photos if needed for ID.
The council are coming to pick the body up this week. Hoping they will scan for microchip but not certain.

Thank you for taking the time to list this found dog and ensuring the safety of the dog.
Please ensure that you notify your local Dog Warden and the local Police Station - in Scotland you MUST inform your local Police Station and if possible contact the Dog Warden also.
The found dog may have a Microchip or a Tattoo - please have the dog scanned and checked for a tattoo at a vet's so that owners may be contacted as soon as possible.
Please check on our Missing pages in case the Found dog has been registered as missing with us.
If possible please add a photo as this greatly assists our work in matching Found dogs with Missing dogs.
