Well done to all who helped. I was SO pleased yesterday when Shelagh texited me with this news. Wasn't able to update till today. I am so pleased to hear Peter wasn't out in the freezing cold all these nights and that this kind lady helped him. I am also sorry for the searchers who were still out searching because they didn't know, but sometimes things like this happen because not everyone knows what to do immediately and this dear lady looked after Peter and got him home. A wonderful outcome. I hope he is okay now without injuries? I also hope his guardians and new owners make sure he can't do this again until such time as he is content to stay close. The poor foreign dogs can't help but try to escape. They need so much security for these are escape artists. Hopefully, in time, as with this lady, Peter will have a happy, calm, loving home and a wonderful new life. God bless him. X

Why is Peter not showing up in Reunited section for people to see who have not been following him?

Amazing. What a clever dog.I hope he now settles to life with his owner and England!
Doglover
Oh what a wonderful story, a lovely lady who looked after him and a clever little dog who obviously knew he would be safe, be it upon someone else,s bed. So happy for the owner, so grateful for the finder and so pleased that we have such lovely people like Shelagh and nicolapicola out there searching for the lost ones. WELL DONE TO ALL. Xxxxxxxx
nicolapicola
Thanks for the update, Shelagh. I love the picture of him running in and straight up to bed! So glad he is OK.
Shelagh
Hi all. Peter is home at last! He was found by lady in her garden on Saturday. After trying for a while to entice him to her she was just about to give up and go back indoors.but soon as she opened front door Peter ran straight upstairs and got on bed. The lady spent Saturday night on sofa with him keeping him warm and feeding him. She done an amazing job as other than being skinny Peter seems fine. She was only able to get to vets today to have him scanned as she lives quite far out. We can't thank that lady enough as I'm sure people would have found it difficult to deal with another really cold night. Peter was seen loughton and buckhurst hill and sure arrived in ongar by people trying to 'catch' him. Many thanks to all who helped look for Peter and poster. Special thanks to Ron who spent so many hours with me searching for this little guy. Also Nicolapicola who has put up loads of posters and searched all over.xx
Doglover
Hi nicolapicola, Yes Shelagh is brilliant, but do not forget yourself also, who has done a tremendous amount of work trying to catch this little one. Well done to you as well. Cannot wait to hear how he got to Ongar. Xx

Fantastic news! Well done Shelagh & all involved. Hope Peter is ok x
nicolapicola
Was at the bus stop on the way to S. Woodford to do masses of postering (including Onslow and cadogan Gdns, doglover) when Shelagh called me to tell me the good news. Fingers crossed Peter will be ok and look forward to hearing more news. Shelagh has worked very very hard, as usual, and deserves a good night's sleep tonight.
Doglover
Oh my god.... Ongar, that is at least 30 minutes away in a car. Cannot wait to hear how he got that far. Please Shelagh let us know. Great news though. Xxxxx

Hollieberry
Fantastic hope he is ok x
Shelagh

Shelagh
Ron and I put up some more posters . Hollow ponds t hut wanstead high street s,Woodford couple bus stops. Replaced some already removed. Had a drive round his sightings. Nothing yet. Others have put more posters eagle ponds way.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Well done everyone. Dog lover, yes woods are good. They are warm to bed down in. He may also check out the fast food bins in the quiet of the night. Nicola, the poster already says he's a scared dog and should not be approached. Hopefully that will work. Keep safe, baby.
Shelagh
Posters are up eagle ponds, wanstead park ,aldersbrook,South Woodford Woodford bridge claybury park buckhurst hill debden loughton and snaresbrook. All roundabouts as well.Parts of Chigwell are still not done but hope to get to them tomorrow. We have a lot of help for Peter and people are out looking for him and postering all the time. Hope we get much needed sighting soon
janny22
I will go out again later this evening
Doglover
Maybe as well you could poster other side of Chigwell road where Onslow and Cadogan Gardens are, which are just up from Charlie Browns roundabout. At the bottom of those roads is Nightingale school, perhaps a poster could be put somewhere there and then those roads past the school lead up to Wanstead and from Wanstead he could head back up to The Drive, ie a triangle. Such a lot of houses around there, so he may be hiding I. Someone.s garden near the school it is called the Nightingale Estate, there are also pubs down Nightingale Lane where food could be obtained. I am thinking of you, if I still lived down that way I would be out there with you searching. X
nicolapicola
Whoops, just read Shelagh's post below yours - wrong day for the Bressey Grove thing but the fact that he was there at all still makes my route a possible.
nicolapicola
Thanks, Doglover. I am afraid he was in Buckhurst Hill as it was Shelagh and Ron that saw him there. He is, literally, on the run so is covering much distance. He originally ran away from Eagle Pub, from the grassy bit in front of The Drive to the foot of Bressey Grove. We know he managed to get over the underground line so I am thinking he probably crossed from B Grove straight down Glebelands Ave and the flyover in George Lane is the natural progression from that spot. I am thinking now that he then turned right the other side (which would be normal as the cafes are in that direction) and ended up on Chigwell Road. (He has been seen at Charlie Brown's roundabout a few times now. I've been told that he is from a non-rural bit of Cyprus and is likely to feel much more at home in amongst houses and shops and restaurants than out in the wild. Thanks for your suggestions, which are very helpful as he did come back to The Drive at least once and may have left by the way you suggest. Shelagh is postering up by Whipps X roundabout area so maybe we should do up by Eagle Pond too, as you suggest.
Doglover
Hi Shelagh and nicolapicola, before I moved to Braintree, I lived in South Woodford for 31 years. The Drive where he went missing from leads up to the Eagle Pub and if he went in that direction along Eagle Ponds, there is open woodland. I cannot see that Buckhurst Hill is anywhere near there, quite a way away , unless you are sure that it was him that was seen there. Also if he made his way across the bridge by South Woodford station he could have gone down, across Chigwell Road and be in the fields That run along the River Roding. Just suggestions as there are many open places he could have gone out of the way of people. X
Shelagh
A lot more posters are out now,but any help postering would be appreciated. Just one thing to adjust to nicolapicola post the bressey grove sighting was Thursday.not day he went missing.

A few things: 1) Can we extend the sharing to E4, IG9 & IG10 please. IG9 is Buckhurst Hill, where he has been seen, likewise IG10 (Loughton). E4 is Chingford, where I live, and I know there were a few doglost supporters here that were willing to go out postering for Monty so we could do with any help postering we can get. He is covering a vast area. We are right next to B.Hill here in North Chingford. Shelagh pointed out to me that she was getting hardly any sightings (although he must be being spotted by many people every day as he is out in daylight running) and this is because there were hardly any posters up. I went yesterday to The Drive where he was lost from and there was only one poster outside what I presume to be the owner's house. The whole of the rest of that road and the main road (which it runs along) had nothing at all. I postered all this section and accosted dog people as I met them - the first was the owner's uncle! I also did along the High Road to Bressey Grove (where he paused finally before disappearing on day 1) and put some posters at the start and end of Glebelands Avenue, which may well have been his next run. I put one in George Lane but then ran out. I intend to continue this run, going towards Buckhurst Hill along some roads I think he probably too. I think he may have crossed the underground track on the George Lane flyover as it opens invitingly close to the end of said Glebelands Avenue.
2) Can the poster be changed at all - perhaps to capitalise something about DON'T TRY TO CATCH HIM, JUST CALL US IF YOU SEE HIM
3) Also can we put somewhere obvious that he is about knee height as (although it may be me being thick), I hadn't realised he was that small when I looked at the photos. Thanks in advance Kimmie and Admin
janny22
I went out last night, checked all side roads at Woodford Bridge, Roding lane north and clayhall, will go out again today
Shelagh
He may have gone Woodford new road ,whippsx roundabout, green man roundabout. I will be postering there this morning. Anybody with posters please try put busy supermarkets and stations. Thanks
Shelagh
Several of us including myself Ron and nicolapicola have spent most of today searching for Peter. Sadly there have been no sightings today.A lot more posters are out in a variety of locations.Hope this will bring much needed news
Shelagh
If anybody can help look for Peter today it would be much appreciated. It's bitterly cold now and Peter is quite small. Suggested areas would be Woodford green ,buckhurst hill, wanstead and south Woodford. He could be using Charlie browns roundabout for route through. If he follows triangle he will be buckhurst hill and then Woodford bridge.

Thank you nicolapicola. x
nicolapicola
Ah, excellent news that he is still alive and running around. My brother lives in South Woodford (not too far from where he was lost from) so I'll ask him to continue looking. I'll be able to go out again looking over next few days.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Well done the four of you. You are all helping to get Peter home. So glad he has been seen again and at the place he was lost. This is such excellent new. These dogs are very clever and Peter is certainly so. We need owner to put a feeding station there, possibly in their garden if that is where they are, or, in anothers' garden with a little trail of smelly food for leading to it. Once he gets used to the feeding station. He will keep returning. Slowly, slowly catch a monkey. Please Peter, keep safe and come back to your new home. X
Shelagh
Thank you nicolapicola for update. Further update Peter is alive and running around again. He was seen Thursday evening right where he went missing from The drive South Woodford. He could have gone back to buckhurst hill as per his triangle or other way to whipps x roundabout. Phew!
nicolapicola
Just come back from search. News came in, while we were searching, that a lady had just reported seeing Peter hit by a car on the main road by Chigwell Nursery on TUESDAY. He ran off in the direction of the Nursery. Shelagh, myself and my brother searched this area but there are many holly/ivy covered nooks going back into private land we cannot enter where he could have holed up. It is on the outskirts of well-manicured residential Chigwell which would have been hard to run through unnoticed, one would think. The nursery had put a doglost poster up just before I went in there as Ron had just called in and spoken to them but, unfortunately, they've put it up in a dark, unnoticeable patch of window so we put two more up on the road opposite their entrance. Didn't go into the golf club very close by which was probably a mistake but shortly afterwards managed to get onto the golf course on a public path and postered a tree by the fairway. Not very hopeful of a good outcome now but we've spread the word a bit with passersby along the road and looked round many little footpaths, rubbish heaps and thickets.
Shelagh
Search for Peter is still on! Manor road entrance to Claybury park.10am.
nicolapicola
My brother and I will join you tomorrow.
Shelagh
Search organised Saturday 10am. Manor road outside old claybury hospital. Will be searching claybury park, which was last sighting of Peter.

like this dog peter my Romanian rescue was lost by her adopters within hours.she was found 3 weeks later 25 miles away - in Manchester dogs home where she had been for 11 days before they scanned her

so do keep daily visit/contact with any dog kennels for miles around. my rosie was caught by a stranger who rsng dog warden.he managed to grab her harness and hung on although she bit him 6 times as she was, and still is, terrified of strange men.

good luck fingers crossed and don't give up. its really really hard work and long hours and physical effort and phone and txt time when you search for your dog. but when you are reunited its absolute heaven

I am not sure if her adopters visited Manchester dogs home - which in the big rescues is vital - partly cos they wont discuss dog with anyone only owner and partly becsuse its not unknown for people who phone to be given wrong info.

OK, I'm changing description to mongrel. That would fit whatever he is. Poor boy, so worried. X
Shelagh
I'm afraid Peter had just that afternoon arrived in UK and had not even been inside his new home. So he knows nobody here. I have searched roding lane north which is back entrance to clay bury park. Looked in Allotments Cemetery sports fields. Left contact details with Redbridge lakes and rangers repton park. Nobody saws him that way after afternoon sighting. Its possible he still in park .

Doglover
If he was seen near Claybiry Park, he could be anywhere and go in any direction. There is a lot of green land in Barkingside, but also if he has made his way towards Lambourne End, there is a great deal of forest and open countryside. Poor thing is probably frightened of all the traffic. A wider area needs to be postered and alerts sent to anyone in those areas. X

Is there anyone who has built up trust with this dog? How long in new home before lost? was it long enough for this dog to get to know them so be confident to come back to them?
If not the only way is to use food and hope trust can be gained enough to get close enough to catch him.
nicolapicola
there are no staffies in mainland Greece, don't know about Cyprus. This one looks like lots on the mainland though - a sort of hound-type dog. Most dogs in Greece are crossed with everything imaginable but main components are hunting dogs and sheepdogs crossed. Mine looks a lot like a border collie but bays like a hound and doesn't round things up.
Unknown
CopperM.. i have seen dog, def not GSDx.. not sure what he is crossed with though
nicolapicola
I've got a greek dog. Try, as already suggested, Ella or "Ella tho" (come here). Using the kindliest, gentlest voice tone you can manage and can address him as "skilaki moo" (my little dog) as he may have heard Greeks calling him that. He obviously won't know his new name. He seems to be covering a lot of ground and looks as though he has quite long legs. Not really very much like a staffy in appearance, as has been said. If he is still out and about (and hope very much he can avoid the roads - Redbridge roundabout !!!) by Saturday I can join the search. Unfortunately, anchored by work until then.
BorderCol
I agree with CopperM about breed. He may be staff x but does not look like one.
Is it possible that he is not so much frightened by fending for himself as by being cornered and captured?
CopperM
Wondering about the breed description.. My first instinct on seeing the photos was GSDx...
Hope he's found soon, regret too far away to help.
Pilot's mum
If Peter comes from the Greek area of Cyprus he may come to ella which is Greek for come.
I hope and pray that he will be caught before he comes to any harm
Good luck.

Hope and pray Peter will be foubnd soon. He must be so frightened. Paws xd Shelagh

Newham warden have picked up a staffy x tan. I doubt if it is Peter but owner will call when they open

On my Lord! This poor, poor boy. So glad there were sightings and you both saw him. Not sure about police car though, unless it managed to keep him safe. Only thing is, he may now try to retrace his steps and we want him away from that roundabout and roads. Having said that, these foreign babies are very clever so once he's calmed down he will get his bearings. Keep safe you lovedly chappie. Myself and Ron saw Peter yesterday in Albert road buckhurst hill. First time he was scared off by mechanical road sweeping machine.pursued him to what we believed to be secure private football ground. Unfortunately there was hole in fence leading to rugby club.He was then sighted Redbridge roundabout.Woodford bridge being pursued by a police car. Today there have been no sightings . We have looked golf club Chigwell and claybury park which is place police chased him too.Claybury park is huge and incorporates a nature reserve.it has around 10 exits. He could be holed up in there or could have come out one of exits.Owner is doing posters which will go up around last sighted area. Peter is very very nervous and already escaped at airport on way to new life in UK.He is probably freaked out by that ,the flight, now lost again. He doesn't understand English commands
