I met Chris last year at a show that Manchester Dogs Home were doing. Well done for not giving up, I'm sure it gives a great deal off faith to others whose dogs are missing. Keep up the good work and I hope your little girl will be home PDQ x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've spoken to Chris now, we have compared the dog on Rochdale Rescue unfortunately it is not Tilly but very very similar.  Thanks again Sharon Chris is very grateful of being informed of any dogs that maybe Tilly.  Good luck Chris on the other dog that we spoke about.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tilly
Hi I do not know anyone in the media but I will compile a letter in the next few days and try to e-mail it to some papers or Richard and Judy type programmes. Don't give up hope! The first time Tilly went missing (2004) I got her back after 8 months! (Details on the beginning of her thread) Terriers will be terriers and go and do their own thing given half a chance. I can obviously feel what your going through. The thought that she may be not looked after breaks my heart. I love Tilly so much and would love to see her again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Tillys mum, sounds like a good idea! By the way-our Tilly also disappeared on the 20th april. I registered her on doglost the 23rd. We miss her so much as i,m sure you do. I cant bear not knowing how she is and how she is being treated. A joint story sounds really good-do you know anybody with any contacts with the media? It seems the only way to get them recognised over a large area because i keep postering different areas but they get taken down again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Tilly
Hi this is 'Tilly' I have had an idea! Your dog went missing on the 23rd, mine went missing on the 20th of April, both called Tilly and both Patterdale terriers. Maybe we can get someone interested as a joint story! They may not be interested in our individual stories but may well be if we 'club' together.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I had a chat with our postwoman today- she,s been looking out for 3 months now but seen nothing. Anyway, i gave her a stack of posters to hand out to the other posties at the depo who cover other areas( cant believe i didnt think of that earlier!!).She was really helpful. Emailed paul o grady 6 weeks ago but nothing happened. I keep postering all the areas around and people keep pulling them down.I,ve advertised in the papers-nearly everyone we know has a poster in their car window-there are posters in the shop windows, pet shops, poodle parlours, garages and all the local farms with stables. If i see any window cleaners i stop and give them a poster(and emphasize the reward!) and anydog walkers too. I think just about every one i,ve come into contact with now knows about Tilly but still i,ve heard nothing other than crank calls. I really need to get some media coverage but have no contacts in that area- does anyone have any ideas?-am really desperate now. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I rang up Lincolnshire about 2 months ago concerning this dog in case it was our Tilly. I must say the woman i spoke to wasn,t very helpful-she said it wouldn,t be my Tilly because they,d had her for a while and that she had been re-homed anyway! She also couldn,t remember the markings of the dog so that was more or less the end of the conversation. I have looked for the number in case you wish to ring but cant find it anywhere. I got the number from doglost - just ring the main number. In the meantime, if i find it i will let you know. Good luck!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Countryman's weekly have just called me back and they have looked through the last few weeks publications and it's nothing that they have sent to print. The only Tilly that was registered with Countryman's Weekly is Tilly from Urmston back in May. As yet they haven't heard anything but they have taken my phone number and are going to call if they receive any information - did you get the name of the paper or the rescue that was involved so I can call them directly? A country mans weekly reader has just called to say her local rescue in Lincolnshire are appealing in the local paper for the owners of a Paterdale type dog microchipped in the name of Tilly but no contact details-have passed onto owner. I have lost a Patterdale (20th April she is on here) called Tilly that is micro- chipped. I lost her from YO41 area but does anyone know any more about this story as it could be my dog. Did this dog find their owner?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I asked for the address to go and make sure it was tilly and when i checked the A-Z it didnt exist. Also he wont return my phonecalls. Then, that evening i recieved an text asking if i want to buy a black/white jack russell-3 months old. Is that very coincidental? Dont know what to believe.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been to printers today to get some handouts printed-won,t be ready till in the week though. At the moment all the shops in urmston precinct have closed due to being demolished for rejuvenation and the main road through closed off. This may cause a large reduction in people shopping there at the moment but there is the trafford centre as well just down the road which would also cover people from the surrounding areas(and a large B+Q and an asda). Dont know the rules for trafford centre though because they can be very strict about things. will ring them and see if i can get their permission first.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have previously asked Metrolink about advertising on the trams but it was in excess of ?1000 and as much as I'd love to - I just can't afford it. The trams are now going to stop running while maintenance work is being carried out - does anyone think it would be possible to get a poster on the back of a bus that goes round the area? On the back of the tickets? Weekly feature in Metro news (the free paper on public transport)? I'll have a look into it on Sunday and will see what I can find out - in the meantime I'll look into organising the canvassing in town centre. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Surely she should know that she should report anything she finds be it a dog or a wallet etc to the police - i sometimes wonder if people have the brains they were born with! Chris - I have suggested we get a few of us out with posters in Urmston centre this weekend and swarm people with info re Tilly and Russell (also missing in this area) - PM me if anyone can help - the more of us there are the more people we're making aware. The woman had acquired her dog at the same time Tilly had disappeared and she is known for picking up dogs(strays or not) and keeping them. It is sad Chris but what's worse is that the majority of dogs in there have probably been kicked to the kerb (so to speak) and your Tilly is out there with people searching high and low because you actually want your pup back. Thanks everyoneone-you,re all such a mine of information! Have had two calls this last 24hrs with different sightings-unfortunately neither were Tilly but it shows people are taking notice of the posters. Trouble is, people still think(after looking at poster) that she is bigger than she really is. She was much smaller than the rest of the litter-she was so small and cute i couldnt resist her. People always notice her wherever we go and stop us to stroke her. Thats why i cant understand why she hasnt been seen bacause she is so noticable if thats makes sense. Have been to dogs home again - she wasnt there but the dog warden for trafford was there(what luck!)-Have given him a photo of Tilly. Its so sad going past all those kennels full of lost dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Chris I had this sent to me by Paula at Happy Hounds Dog training -"Thanks for your email about Tilly. I am in the Urmston area and have seen lots of posters of her about the place. Please make sure the owners have contacted all local shelters as there are a lot about as well as the council just in case!! They don't always scan for chips as we found out a few years ago. Locally there is the animals in distress shelter in irlam, Peggy Henderson's in sale. Bleakholt in Ramsbottom, which is a way out but I have known it happen. Alwyas the dogs home, leigh cat and dog's home as well. they have contacted the police to? Rspca as well as all local vets. there is a vets locally called Pet medics who do the out of hours for a lot of local vets and somethimes animlas end up there. Number for them is 0161 7992299 I think. They also keep a database of missing animals. There are also shelters in Wilmslow who may have her, one is called windyways. I hope that has been of some use. I can't imagine what they are going through and obvioously I'll keep an eye out. Hopefully she'll wander into my path. That would be great to get some press release. The free local paper is the Messenger (stretford and urmston). I did submit an ad through Petline but it was placed in the sister paper in the wrong area. I rang up to complain and they resubmitted it but then they didnt add the photo of her. As you know a photo is essential to stick in peoples minds. The other paper is the Manchester Evening news which has a much larger amount of readers. I also put an ad in there but it was ?50 just for a few words- i wanted a small photo adding but they wanted ?200 which i thought would be better put towards a bigger reward.(hopefuuly an incentive to get people to talk). My son in law is a policeman and said he would find out if we have a travellers liasion officer in our area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

When you target your local pubs (do you have many in your area?) make sure you make a point of actually speaking to the regulars who will have plenty of local contacts and will be a mine of local info. Also many dogs are traded on via pubs and someone might remember seeing something or might know of someone who has recently acquired a 'new little black dog'. Also take a picture of Tilly into one of those high street printing shops (I wouldn't know how to do it myself, but you might even be able to do this on your own computer or you might have a friend who can do it for you) and ask them to reproduce the photo (approx 12 to a page and just printed onto A4 paper or thin card). Write your contact details on the back and hand them out to as many people as possible, including the pub customers. That way when someone spots Tilly or comes across info about her, they will have her details to hand rather than having to return to a poster. Also make sure you, your family and friends display a poster in your car windows. Good Luck and I really hope that you find Tilly very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Chris would you like me to ask for a press release on this? If so, what is your free paper called and what is your best and most popular local paper? We can only but try. But looks like this needs to be advertised further away now. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

To answer your question Chris,- Jayne usually puts NEW when the dog is first registered with the site. The number of posts, which is shown on all of them merely means the number of messages posted on that dog's page. If we are going down the line that Tilly may have been stolen I would advise you to pay great attention to postering pubs in your area, as the locals always know as much as the postmen! Pubs, boot sales, markets, fairs and places like that. Sometimes this is where dogs get sold on. Did you manage to find out if you have a travellers liaison officer in your area ? Have already been round all the houses. Nobody seems to know why the van was there. Have also put posters up everywhere around. Trouble is, people keep taking them down after just a few days. The question referred to was when you click on lost dogs list- some say new and others say posts at the side. What do they mean?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry Chris - don't know what you are referring to. Re-the white van, it's probably a long time ago for anyone to remember, but I wonder if they were knocking on doors in any of the other roads, -whether they did any work for anyone. May be worth makeing a flyer up with your telephone number and putting it through the doors asking for any information. Somebody may just remember something. Its just a chance . Thanks for all your help!! We live in a cul-de-sac and Tilly was playing with the neighbours children up the drive. All the children on the estate used to come to see her- she was a real little local personality. When she didnt come back in i went to see the chidren who said they saw her walking in the direction of a white transit van. The van had gone and so had Tilly. Although i have no proof, i think it is very likely they have coaxed her into the van and taken her. It is so unusual for any strangers to come down our road so far because we,re a dead end. They must have been driving round looking for work. somebody must have removed her id tag otherwise we would have heard something by now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Last night I Emailed twenty six dog related clubs in the area, and sent the poster and a letter asking them to display, and spread the news to any doggie people they know in the area who can display posters or help search. Dog people are wonderfull, and will pass it about. We all have a massive data base of other dog people either in our heads or in club directories, so this will be spread about, don't worry about that. Good Luck for today. The more posters you put up, and more talking to people you do, the more chance you have, of that all important call. Just make her very famous xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Chris > Try and get hold of an officer tomorrow. Its a definite possibility re-travellers. The sort of small dog they like I'm afraid. -they would probably keep her. I am just in the process of sending Tilly's poster to all the dog clubs I can find in the area along with a letter. Keep up the good work Chris and stay positive. She is chipped which is brilliant. I did email seeka to let her know and to thank her. Have also put more posters up in partington area. I am worried though that if travellers do have her and they find out we,re looking for her they might take her out of the area altogether and sell her on.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been given a number to ring at Greater Manchester Police -0161 872 5050. They may be able to tell you about any officers dealing with the travellers. I personally would want to try and investigate this if you havn't already done so xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi all. Have just read this. Sorry to hear no recent sightings of Tilly yet. Did anyone actually follow up this sighting of small dog in Flixton posted by Seeka 15.29 -25.4.07 ? Only I would have thought if there are travellers in that area, that they would be a very good possibility, especially as Tilly has not been seen. It may have been investigated but I cannot see any further ref to it. Am trying to get hold of contact details for any Travellers Liaison Officers for the area - does anyone have any? xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tilly still hasn,t been found. I need to get posters out further afield i think. Are there anyone who could get any posters up in Partington, salford,Eccles or Irlam? I am getting them up myself as well but obviously the more the better. Am getting desperate now - somebody must have seen her somewhere but wont realise she,s missing. She,s so distinctive because of her small frame which is hard to get over on a photo Her id tag must have been removed by now. If anyone can help i would be so grateful-this is a nightmare!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have already called peggy hendersons but no joy. Have found a copy of countrymans weekly today. The feature on Tilly and the other lost dogs are great-lets hope there is some positive response. What a brilliant website Doglost is-it gives us owners some hope! I will definately be giving a donation-it is truly deserved!! I will ring doglost tommorrow and see if i can get anymore info on the dog in lincolnshire. Meanwhile please keep putting the posters up.Many thanks once again.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've received the following reply from Countrymans Weekly - "We feature a DogLost colum in the paper every week. Your best bet would be to contact DogLost and ask them for more details. Thanks, Laoni Weeks FEATURES EDITOR." I think this may be that someone has seen her poster in the magazine?? I've forwarded her poster to my friend at the farm and asked her to pass to the other horse owners. I'll get on the emails today for you - good luck x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

www.countrymansweekly.com - I hve sent them a "contact us" of the following - I hope it helps I'm looking on a website www.doglost.co.uk which is there to try and help people who have lost their dogs get them back through postering with other helpers in the area etc. On one of the particular pages there is an entry that states, "A country mans weekly reader has just called to say her local rescue in Lincolnshire are appealing in the local paper to the owners of a Paterdale type dog microchipped in the name of Tilly but no contact details have been passed on" Would you be able to help at all? Is this an article that has appeared in your magazine? If you could help in any way it would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Vicki Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Chris - not sure about the magazine you need but have you tried Peggy Henderson's in Sale? My friend has a horse on a farm down by mile road so I'll print a few posters and ask her to pass on to farm, other horse owners etc also have a few contacts in Urmston, Sale, Flixton etc so I'll get spreading the word. Good luck x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posters need to be put up in the area a.s.a.p. lamposts, entrances to parks, vets, petshops, ask postie (go to sorting office), milkmen, binmen, schools, youth clubs, pubs, mcdonalds, dog training clubs and deliver to houses etc. Handout smaller posters to people, especially dog walkers. Put A4 poster in car windows. Check Police stations and Dog Warden. RSPCA and rescue centres need checking regularly and preferably visited in person, by owner or someone who knows Tilly.
