Doglover
Hello Fergal, I sincerely hope that you are right. I have never lost any of my dogs but they have passed, but I know that if any dog I owned went missing, I would never give up. I realise they must be devastated and poor Sam must be in a terrible state, wherever he is. I live in Essex, so unfortunately too far away to help. My feelings go out to his family and of course without a doubt to Sam.xxx
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
I don't think they have really Doglover. But as anyone who knows how it is to lose a loved pet, the emotions sink and rise then sink again, it is devastating. It is the thought of an 'en mass' arrival of people at their door, or on their phones I think, though I wouldn't dream of asking. They have done so much. It is an area where people walk, cycle, fish and canoe, every day and I took a stroll and saw quite a few individuals today. We just keep praying X
Doglover
PLEASE! PLEASE! Do not give up on Sam. Think positively and never give up hope that he will be found. Please, I am praying for him and his family. Xxxx

Heartbreaking decision to make ,thinking of Sams family x

Sam's owner has contacted me to say that although grateful, considering how much they have already done and given Sam's age, they have lost hope. They ask that we do not do the search and allow them to put it to rest now.
Doglover
My prayers are going out for you and all the helpers in your area. Come on Sam show yourself please. Xxxx
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Am going to do a search along the road and undergrowth tomorrow (11am) with Kathleen. Have put a shout out for volunteers. The road is fast and tricky in this area, so anyone who does come please park safely and walk towards the bridge over the A386 at Landcross.
Unknown
aw fingers crossed for him an older dog than him was missing for days and had been caught up in wire so maybe check some nearby fields and notify farmers.....praying you find him safe xxxx
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
I think the Bideford Canoe Club did a paddle as they promised, they have pictures on their page. If the hunt dog sighted on the road a Landcross was Sam, have you done a search of the undergrowth along that road where he might have got onto it from your house? I did go over that way to look about but was unable to do a proper search myself. Don't give up just yet... XX
MarkS
As Sam's owners, we would like to say a big thank you to all of you for your help and concern for our dog Sam. We did search Abbotsham Rd.with no sighting of him, but we see that that particular dog has been found now. That is good news! Sam is about 13 and also blind and deaf. The chances of him being alive now seem pretty remote. We would really appreciate anyone though who is on the River Torridge fishing or canoeing to keep a look out for him as we think it is highly probable that he got into the water near the iron bridge at Landcross, just ouside of Bideford.Thank you again. We really appreciate what you are doing.

Is it possible to get someone to go up with a drone to see if they can find Sam ? xx
Rose
Poor boy he must be so scared being out for a week. So hope he is found very soon x
Springles
It's been posted that the dog found on Abbotsham road has been reunited with its owner so it's not Sam.

Poor old soul - I'm worried for him, but he can't have gone far... Hope you find him soon.

The man who took photo says it isn't Sam but he doesn't seem to familiar with breeds of dogs so it could be Sam? Last edited: 2015-10-04 22:20:20 by Candyfloss

Mark, or April. Please check out Found 92860 on here, sighted last night. Local people have begun looking for it in the hope it might be Sam.

The photo was shared to Missing and found cats and dogs in Bideford, I have left a comment asking for any news, will post back here if I hear anything.x
Candyfloss
Is it Sam at abbot sham road then? So worried bout this little dog
Marissa
I did message the owners this morning to say that a dog was photographed on Abbotsham road in Bideford last night Sat the 3rd, The poster says it looked like a very dirty Spaniel and was just walking around in circles. Is Sam's tail docked?
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
The Taddiport dog was back with his pack and uninjured the last I heard. The other posts re the Landcross dog are both copied without the original poster's details. But thanks Candyfloss for trying. x
Candyfloss
i have copied this from some one called Stef Ring_ Price There is an intact male hunt dog wandering on the road by the gates to Lady Fishleighs manor, Taddiport.
Assume it's from a hunt nearby or on tarka trail.
Candyfloss
Kathleen Susan Thompson posted it. I have just messaged her to see who told her they had seen a hunts dog/ spaniel
Candyfloss
Fergal I re posted that! I will try find where I got it from I think it was on the Bideford banter site
JulieH
Hoping for good news soon, stay safe Sam x
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Bit of a longshot posting here, but there was a fb post about a 'hunt' dog sighted on the road at Landcross, Bideford earlier this week. This is where Sam went missing on Monday, so we are trying to find the original post, or person who posted, for details.
Springles
Oh that sounds really helpful, if he's gone down the bank to the river they would have more of a chance of spotting him from the water.x
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Had an email reply from the Club Secretary of Bideford Canoe Club who have offered to do everything they can to help find Sam, and will organise a padddle to search for him. Thank you so much Sue X
Springles
Is there any news on this dear chap yet? X
Hollieberry
Chloe has been found after 2 weeks caught in bushes its your turn to come home now Sam x

Hope, and pray that Sam will be found safe, and well. Stay safe Sam until you are found. Paws, and fingers xd.
Candyfloss
Ok we will go and have a search now. Poor little dog X
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Candyfloss: you could try upstream towards Weare Gifford, looking on the banks or mudflaps, or hedges. Or perhaps the hedges close to her home, near the iron bridge, on Tarka side. Owner's phone is on message a lot but worth a try to see if you can help in any particular area. Thank you X
Candyfloss
Hi I'm new to here but live locally is there any area I can go and search to help? The high tides are a bit of a worry. Are there tracker dogs available to search? Excuse my ignorance but I'm new and not sure how these things work. Thanks
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Tx Owl. Owner has seen your comment. They live on a farm with a lot of land and hedges, but have been searching relentlessly. The tide was very high and strong that day too, and if carried upstream, it would have been towards Weare Gifford. The 'iron bridge' is where the spot would have been if he did go in the river. They immediately stopped people on the Tarka Trail and also along the road at the time, nobody had seen him. Owner has said she will update here.
DogLostOwl
Please check behind hedges when searching roads, as a deaf and blind dog may hug the hedge or wall but try to stay on opposite side from traffic vibration.
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Have left several messages with rowing and boat companies and people in the hope they will look for any sign of Sam while on the river. Have to also thank the exhausted Bella team for offering to help where they can, as well as Sharon, owner of a previous lost dog in same area, it is much appreciated. Lots of fb sharing now. Hang on Sam xxx

What a worry. Do hope beautiful Sam is soon found, and back home safe and well xxx

I am hundreds of miles away in Essex, but please, anyone who can, help find this beautiful dog as quickly as possible.
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Have spoken to owner, Sam went missing from his own garden 4.30pm Monday. There is a private access to the river from the garden. Sam has fallen in the river around a year ago and managed to swim across to safety. There have now been several very high tides and of course the mud flats at low tide. There are often canoes or small boats on the river so please anyone in that area (just at Landcross) can you please keep a lookout from the river itself? Owner is getting posters printed out and also will be scenting the access area and leaving his bedding there to try to help him find his way back. The high tides would push anything upriver, so if anyone is thinking of walking which already people are, including a lot of searching by the family, perhaps concentrate along the banks upstream, maybe using binoculars, he may be stuck in a bush or unable to get up a steep embankment. UPDATE: It might be a good idea for anyone who has searched to list the areas already covered on here and whether from bank or river, as the owner will be checking this page (not too clever with fb and doesn't really use it)Last edited: 2015-10-01 16:20:53 by Fergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall

That would be great of them all, thanks BMDevon. I just got home and was hoping it would be better news. Jo Glos I will do that now, good idea.
Jot cotswolds
I would add the words blind and deaf to the name in the listing so people see it first to get more urgent help...the dog clearly is in more danger than most out there lost..you don't know his situation unless you read all the thread comments.
BMdevon
Some of the Bella team may be available Fergal... we're stretched but may be able to combine some trips in the area if anyone needs help.
