Is Maisie OK now? and how long had she been adopted from Battersea for before going missing? Just for research purposes from a fellow rescuer!

Thanks alikat I've only just seen this. I'll bump the page so Doglost helpers and everyone else who helped can see the article. Latest update of Maisie is that she has put on weight but her post op leg is still causing concern. She is also having some panic attacks, bless her.
Photo at the bottom is of her when she was first found and the top one is how she is now. (You may need to refresh the page a couple of times to see them)Last edited: 2015-06-01 02:18:38 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Two updates from Find Maisie's page https://www.facebook.com/pages/FIND-Maisie/986964947991988?fref=ts
"Maisie hardly moved all night. She was right beside me and I kept stroking her. At 2.30!am I got up and lay by her on her duvet. She's about to have a bowl of tea and a biscuit ... And lots of medication .
Thank you for keeping in touch and caring.'will
Update later ..... "

"Of course, with all the emotion and stress yesterday I didn't say how the scene unfolded. On 11 May when Maisie disappeared she was seen at a garden at sheep green, Ockley. Just off forest green road within the jayes park estate. As adults entered the garden, Maisie bolted. It appears, from the canine tracker jenny and tiga, that Maisie was doing loops around the vast area of woodland since then. At 1 am on 20 may, a couple heard their dogs barking downstairs. They couldnt see Maisie but felt she was close by. At 7 am, when letting their dogs into the garden, they found Maisie in their potato patch. They led her gently into their home and fed her and called me. The house was exactly where she was seen on 11 may. We think that, with the tremendous thunder storm, extreme hunger and exhaustion, she finally gave up. My clothes had been strewn around that area the day before .... (If anyone sees my underwear ... Sorry but yes I own up to it!). I am going to write an account of this whole saga ... In the hope that if I can help others who have this traumatic experience, then another missing dog may be saved too. Thank you everyone for your continued interest and love. Maisie is very weak but resting with paws over my legs. She has had scrambled eggs for protein and two bowls of tea for breakfast. Her pads are bleeding and she is still limping badly. She is disorientated but is gentle and just feeling very vulnerable. Will update you all later .... "

I have also added photos of Maisie when she was found and taken to the vets .. and the other of her back at home. (you may have to refresh the page a couple of times to see them)

So pleased to hear this happy news. Such a lot of work has been put in by the owner and her daughter to find and get Maisie home.
Many thanks to all who helped and supported the family.
Special thanks and very well done to the lady who managed to gain Maisie's trust and who reunited her with her family.
Hopefully Maisie's leg will be ok and she will recover well from her escapade.

Welcome home Maisie! (Look forward to having a reunited photo)

That is just wonderful news! Well done everyone involved. I'll try to do Monday's walk again in the next few days to take the posters down.

Fantastic news. Well done to everyone involved in the search.
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Maisie has been caught - she went back to the garden she has been visiting to play with the children. This time it was the cottage next door who have two dogs. Owners on way now to collect and then off to the vet as she is limping. So relieved she is safe.
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
So close - there have been sightings again today where Tiga was last night. Owners were there with people who had been able to feed her in their garden but she jumped out.
alikat
Fingers crossed Maisie will now "get" the strong scent of her mum and allow herself to be caught. At least she does keep going back to the point where she was lost and taking the food there.
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
So near and yet so far. Tiga was on a strong scent and we got 'mum' to get ahead of us and was rewarded with a sighting but was not quick enough in turning away and Maisie trotted off but Tiga continued to track and again took us back to the vets where we had another BBQ. Clearly this is where she regularly comes back to as it was the second time we tracked back to the vets. Clearly jet lagged the owners still continue to do everything possible to get Maisie home soon.
Julie B
There has been a drone up in the air searching a lot of the day as well as Jenny and Tiga searching on the ground. There has now been a SIGHTING and the owners are doing another bbq in the area where Maisie is. Please let her go to them tonight - she has done her exploring ..... its time to go home gorgeous girl.Last edited: 2015-05-18 21:40:29 by Julie B

Lots more information on the Facebook page. I walked across the footpaths near Bearehurst and Broome Hall and put posters in visible locations. It's unlikely Maisie has moved that far over, but at least walkers in that area will be aware. I believe owners have now landed back so let's hope Maisie will go to her "mum".

Thanks Alikat (and other helpers) for everything you are doing to help and support Maisie's family.
What a shame the cctv wasn't working! Glad to hear about posters, bbq's and a feeding station has been set up. Sounds like everything is being done right. Well done.

Owner's daughter should now have the Doglost advice as it's been forwarded to her. There is advice on how to catch a scared dog in it so hopefully when she sees Maisie she will follow that. It's likely that Maisie's mum will need to follow the advice too as Maisie will probably not realise it is her straight away.

Basically this means when Maisie sees you turn your back on her and either sit on the floor, crouch down or turn and walk slowly away. Let her see you drop food on the floor as you walk away. No calling her as this may make her run. If you do speak do it in a relaxed, quiet way saying words that she may recognise. Keep repeating this & walk a shorter distance away so that she is coming nearer each time. However, it may take some time for her to build up enough confidence to approach. If she does not approach, try getting down on the ground and make whimpering noises as this seems to help relax dogs and make them approach.
Best of luck to you all.

Walked from Ockley cross-country to Jayes Park, where I met the owner's daughter and her boyfriend. They explained to me what had happened and they have set up a feeding station at the exact spot where she slipped her lead and escaped. The food has been taken overnight but unfortunately the CCTV went wrong so they don't know if it was Maisie. They are planning to cook some nice smelly food on a BBQ there this evening. The owners are on their way back from Canada and are hopeful Maisie will come to them - she is so spooked at the moment she wouldn't even come to their daughter! I did put some posters up on the footpaths, but there are already quite a few around the area. I may well put some out over towards Broome Hall and Bearehurst tomorrow, as it's not far as the crow flies. Hoping for some good news soon.
alikat
Have had phone contact with owners. Will be going to Ockley itself as Maisie appears to be circling the area, according to recent sightings. She is not at all familiar with the area. Will mainly be putting up posters but will have some nice treats and my phone just in case I spot her. Will certainly not be chasing her.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks to all who are helping.
Maisie is obviously running scared at the moment so it's very important not to chase her. If you see her please watch and follow her to see which direction she goes in and get in touch with family.
I have sent our Doglost advice which may help find and catch her.
Best of luck.

Printing posters, will laminate them and put them out this afternoon around Bearehurst and from there towards Ockley. Have urged owners to contact Jenny & Tiga. Photo on poster is quite distorted - possibly because it came from a phone? Can this be put right or other photo used instead?Last edited: 2015-05-17 10:46:32 by alikat

Maisie is now in feral mode. Are there any helpers in the area that are able to to help search for her? Help is desperately needed x

If you can leave some nice smelly food in the area where she's been seen, you'll get her used to being there and then maybe someone local will let you lay a trail into a garden? Hope she'll come back to you soon... have you contacted Jenny yet?
Horsham Doodleys
Last seen in the same area yesterday morning (13th) Advice from the Dog Warden is if possible to try and contain Maisie in a confined area (eg secure garden) rather than try to catch her.
alikat
I'm really sorry.... wasn't online after lunchtime and events took over meaning I didn't get back to check. I hope you had some support in your search and, if you plan another, maybe a bit more notice would mean more people coming along? May I also suggest you contact Jenny and see if she can come along with her tracker dogs Tiga and Yogi? http://www.k9tracker.co.uk/

I was thinking of parking near to the Pub on the green at 7:00pm

Please can you let us know, on this page, the time and venue for this evening's search? I can be there with my little dog to help, and can bring laminated posters if needed.

My partner and I are friends of the owners. Please let us know if we can help search this evening. Would bringing our dog maybe help attract Maisie?

Maisie was seen on the evening of May 12th in Parkland Farm Ockley (just west of Ockley Green. Although close to family members she ran in the opposite direction. Friends and family members are going to search for her again this evening in the same area. Any additional help would be very welcome.
