This is what was posted on dogpages There has been a dog running about in the streets of Dagenham, between Sterry Road and the Morrisons area. It is like a labrador/retriever type dog. It looks very mangey and has recently been reported to have something hanging off its neck. This could be a chunk of matted fur or some sort of injury. Wanderers Haven in Cranham have reserved a place for this dog if anyone can catch it, (with a vet vist, first, of course). Please do not approach it unless you feel confident that you can catch it and hold onto it until I can get to you. Please report any sightings to the Wanderers Haven on 01708 220 168. Just read on www.dogpages.org.uk that a dog is on the loose in the dagenham area. I know its not that close but they mentioned something hanging from its neck and it look quite mangey.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ellis, have you any news? We havn't heard from you lately. I really beleive in clairvoyants, and this one has given so much detail. Also wasn't Chadwell St Mary the last place Molly was seen? If taken in by a working man perhaps on his own, have you posterd all the pubs, fish and chip shops, takeaways and newsagents and garages in that area ? Probably worth doing another blitze. Good Luck and please dont stop now. Sorry I dont live any where near that area but has anybody else got any ideas. ???Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Titania777 said she contacted the vets and reported back - "They HAVE taken out lots of ads in the local press and up to now have spent over ?600 so from what I can tell they have been doing there bit, contrary to popular belief! " Well, I'd dearly love to know where they're advertising because if I haven't seen an advert, then I doubt very much if anyone else has. It's definitely not in the Thurrock Gazette - mine arrived this morning and I've checked. I don't get the Yellow Advertiser - maybe the advert is in there? Although a friend has said she's seen nothing either. I am so frustrated about this whole affair, and just feel so sorry for Molly. We haven't got a clue where to look now. Postman would probably be the people who know most about what goes on and would be aware if a dog is barking I would have thought. Perhaps you could Email the local sorting office the story, along with a poster. Area not built up, is a bit of a clue too. Or what about RSPCA. Might be worth ringing to see if anything been reported about barking dog. They may keep their eyes peeled in that area for you. This lead sounds quite possible as it ties in with sightings doesn't it? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If Iris is too angry to speak to the vets, wouldn't a member of her family act as contact? Do we presume correctly that Iris is happy for DogLost Helpers to speak to the vet on her behalf? Perhaps anger and blame needs to be put to one side for the time being, whilst the search continues for Molly. I had concerns about the railway line being so close to the area where Molly went missing from, as it's the main commuter line into Fenchurch Street. I noticed this on the virtual map that was set up for sightings of Molly. Sadly as with Archie's Reunited story yesterday, deaths of dogs killed on railway lines are all too familiar and, although painful, it's often better to know. I wouldn't call what has been posted on Molly's page as 'Iris bashing'. It's just about a group of people who have followed Molly's story for 6 weeks now (and joined in the search) and who are keen to see her reunited with her owner. Nothing more than that. Hope Molly is found very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Iris is too angry to speak to the vets. Iris has just rung to say she has had a clairvoyent come to her house yesterday and this is what she said: Molly is alive and has been taken in by a man from the Tilbury/Chadwell St Mary area in his late 30's early 40's he drives a transit van -molly is tied up and is barking alot she is outside but has shelter and she is surrounded by chain link fencing-the area is not built up-Iris was in tears at the thought of Molly being tied up. The medium says the barking will eventually lead to the man handing Molly into a rescue. It may be wise to reposter all the local rescues to keep molly in their minds Maybe the local council has recent report to noise abatement for excessive barking? May be Molly is being used as a guard dog some where remote? ideas welcome-Have postmen in this area been alerted?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I don't think anyone is bashing Iris all they are doing is giveing her that little push sometimes when you get a bit low you need someone to give you that little push, well done Titania777 I'm sure Iris will be pleased to here that the vets are getting there finger out and so they should. You know when Molly is back she as a lot to answer to, I bet someone as her all tuck upI hope so.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please don't turn this into an Iris bashing thread :-( Have we forgot that Iris is elderly ? Ellis is actively looking on behalf of Iris and Iris herself does get out occassionally. I even spotted her in the local paper a week or two ago. Perhaps Iris HAS admitted defeat. We all have to at some time. Look for Molly if you want but please don't bash other people because they can't get out as much or have reached the stage where they have said enough is enough Anyway, that aside. Well done to all the good work, time and effort put in by all. You all deserve a big pat on the back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Katie, just a suggestion, but would it be possible to get some flyers delivered locally to each house with any of the free newspapers that go around? Someone will probably have to pay them a few pounds to do it though. But that way you would know you had reached each house. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done Katie - thanks for doing that on our behalf! We'll get Molly back yet, although, if her owner has given up on her, maybe she has found herself a nice, new family. I really don't know what to think about all this. Thanks for speaking to Network Rail because, as you know, the close proximity of the railway line to the area where Molly went missing from, has worried me for weeks. Also good to hear that the vets HAVE been doing their bit afterall and that you have set up helpful contact with them. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Titania777
Right - I've spoken to the vets (who recognised me from previous contacts which was quite helpful). They HAVE taken out lots of ads in the local press and up to now have spent over ?600 so from what I can tell they have been doing there bit, contrary to popular belief! They are very concerned and said that if they hear anything or I hear anything to contact each other. I have also spoken to Network Rail as they deal with the C2C line maintenance. They also recognised me (I'll be getting a name!!!!) so dealt with it better and have made a report to pass on to track workers. There have been no reports (thankfully) but as I explained previously, with the railways, this sometimes sadly is not always correct. I'm inclined to believe that Molly has maybe been taken in by someone now. I will still keep up the faxes, emails, calls and can only suggest another poster blitz. I really don't know Titania. I keep thinking there must be a good reason why Iris doesn't want any contact with the vets. It might be worth asking them if they know what's going on and if they're still trying to find Molly? After all, we're only trying to help! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Totally agree with doglady! When I rang the vet concerned before faxing Kizzy across, they asked if I knew about Molly. They asked about Dog Lost but little did I know at the time they would be leaving everything to us. I would have said something then if I had known. I don't mind calling them back today and getting them to do something. What do you all think or would I be overstepping the mark re Iris?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Iris refuses to have anything to do with the vets - one must ask the question why? We're completely at a standstill now. All the posters have long gone, no adverts in the local papers (thanks to Iris), so therefore no sightings. If anyone does ring Iris with a possible sighting, she is so negative she tells them the dog couldn't possibly be hers! Makes trying to find her dog extremely difficult! I think most of us have given up now, unless Iris can come up with something positive, which she can't because of lack of advertising! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I couldn't agree with charliedog more. It would appear that it was the vets who lost Molly from their premises and so I presume it was their fault and that Molly was in their care at the time. I don't recall reading how it happened and at what time of day it occurred. As I have said 2 or 3 times already, the vet involved SHOULD be made to do more (really do not understand why this doesn't appear to be the case). When our vets lost our cat, I insisted that they did everything they could to help, which they did and, as a result, we found our cat (and obviously cats are much more difficult to find than dogs!). The vets placed large, coloured adverts in all 3 local papers, offered a large reward, the vet's staff joined in the search and posted leaflets through doors and they paid for ALL photocopying, etc. Are the vets who lost Molly doing this? Afterall, they are quick to relieve us of our hard earned cash and so they ought to be doing more. Kath W and Corinne have done a splendid job so far and many other Helpers but the vets seem to be getting off very lightly (I'm happy to be corrected if I am wrong). Like many others, would really like to see this girl in the Blue. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Any new sightings? any news? are the vets helping with the search, if I was resposible for letting Molly escape I would be out searching day and night, and would have offered a substantial reward. Are the vets putting weekly ads in the local papers? Molly was in their care so surly its the least they can do is to put a lot of effort into finding her. DebbieXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Iris, Molly's owner, and Corinne (friend from work) have been out for about 7 hours today. They went into the Gazette offices to ask for old papers with the advert in, and they were given a load of posters with plastic sheets for no charge. They've been all over the area putting up more posters and Iris calling for Molly, but no luck. Apparently Iris is now becoming very despondant and not very hopeful that she'll be found. I think we need to blitz the area around Drake Road etc. again, with Iris. Two people on their own isn't enough. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Shirley, from the one sighting I had of Molly I would say she wasn't any bigger than my smaller Lab who I've just measured (!) stands about 22 inches from top of back to ground. -However- I was driving at the time and Molly was trotting pretty fast so I could out (either way!) Did your hubby happen to get a glimpse of the dogs rear end? Molly's had been shaved and she was wearing a red dressing when she escaped. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Everyone, Could I clarify the size of Molly. My partner saw a dog in the alleyway next to our house last night, funny enough it was bin night. He said he saw a big sandy coloured dog, it was dark at the time. I just phoned him to ask him after getting the poster in an email, he seems to think the dog he saw was as big as an alsation/german shepherd. I live in Mill Lane which is a dead end road that leads directly into chafford. ShirlLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hubby and I went out around Ch100 late last night too, I'm surprised that we didn't all bump into one another! Bradders - sorry, wasn't suggesting that when you saw Molly it was actually a fox. What I had been thinking (but didn't put very well) was that maybe people are seeing -her- but think she is a fox which is why we aren't getting any more reported sightings. As for getting together for a search, does everyone think that Ch100 sounds like the most hopeful area right now? Maybe if we could agree a time, probably best to walk about in pairs if it's after dark, perhaps swap mobile numbers in case there is anything to report. By the sounds of things I doubt we would be able to catch Molly even if we did see her, but I can't think of what else we can try right now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Im 99.9% sure it was Molly I spotted the other night. I mentioned largish but on reflection the dog I saw was of medium build. Was definately not a fox I saw as when it saw me with the dog it ran like the clappers. The easiest way to explain where I saw her is this.... if you came out of the Harvester Pub in Arterial Way there is a footpath directly opposite, this takes you to Drake Road. Once at Drake Road cross and the path continues across the other side. Keep walking down and you will have chalk cliffs to your right and will eventually come to a large grass area (land Parcel 78). Keep walking and you are at Devonshire Road. Alternatively if coming from say the Sandmartin public house head towards the shops at The Armada centre. Go straight across both mini roundabouts. Afer the last one look to your right. The houses will stop and you will see a footpath to your right. Look left and you will see a large blue house, one of those dutch style ones with a wooden front. The footpath on your right continues on the left to the side of the blue house. Go down there and that is where Molly was sighted, just before you get to Deveonshire Road. I think the best place to search would be to cross Devonshire Road at this point enter the wooded area that can be accessed via a footpath (this looks directly over Tank Farm). Go left and walk towards Grays Gorge. This area is not used as much by people and was where she was seen running to. Would be a good area to search. Im willing to help with any searches if required.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

with it being bin & recycling day in this part of Ch100 tomorrow a lot of boxes and bags could be out tonight so maybe Molly could be tempted into making an appearance. Stay safe anyone out looking tonight. Wondering what people think about all meeting up with friends/OH's (if they can be persuaded!) so that there would be a lot of people all searching in one area? If you're standing in Devonshire Road looking in the direction of West Thurrock with the roundabout behind you (the chalk quarry nature reserve on your left and the turning into Drake Rd on your right) the tank farm is a little ahead of you and on the left, down in a dip. I'm guessing that the footpath referred to is the one that goes from the zebra crossing in Drake Rd (by comminuty centre) down past the childrens play area, past the big grassy area on the left and then at the bottom of the cliffs if you turn left and walk you'll end up with Devonshire Rd ahead of you (and if you cross over Dshire Rd and go up a bank you'll be looking down on the tank farm!). I wonder if Molly is scared and is happier to run about at night whether people could actually mistake her for a fox? (same colour, not too big, rummaging in bins perhaps). Going to club tonight (Drake Road) so will have another drive around. Had a look at streetmap. but can't see Tank Farm. Where's the footpath that goes between Drake Road & Devonshire? Incidentally, one of the people I work with met Molly's mum on Saturday. She was walking around the streets by herself but not calling out ( a bit self conscious maybe?) Anyway, she needs to be out there calling (especially around the Chafford area). If Molly is not happy with strangers, then it's going to make it extra difficult for someone else to catch her. Have spoken to Molly's mum to make sure that she has got this information. She has and is trying to find on the map the area where this dog was seen. She said that she would describe Molly as small to medium rather than largish. However the behaviour of the dog would be as she would expect as Molly is not very trusting of people and dogs especially following her dog attack. She is very worried about Molly. think I have just seen Molly. Was walking my dog along the footpath that leads from Drake Road down to Land Parcel 78 and onto Devonshire Road (near Tank Farm). As I approached Land Parcel 78 (the large grassed area) just before Devonshire Road a largish dog saw me and ran towards Devonshire Road. I gave chase but lost her. Funny enough thought I caught a sighting of her the other night too, same spot. Bleieve she may therefore be in the Land parcel 78 area and Tank Farm area. Spotted this morning at 00.40 hours. Believe she is still on Chafford.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You are all doing so well, its very frustrating when there are no reports coming in. Don't forget to put a poster in your car windows whilst you are out and about looking. When you think you have covered an area and are not sure where to go, start again, you may have missed something before. All the best, Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I wonder if the owner has notified Gemini Kennels, Wickford? I think I remember reading once that they take in some of the strays found in this area so if Molly is picked up she could go there. It says on their website to call them if you've lost your dog (01268 725 825). I know a few people on here have been in touch with the owner/neighbour, if you speak to them again might be worth checking if this avenue is covered?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi all you are doing a brilliant job trying to find Mollie. There is one avenue I would take if my dog was missing. I deliver the Merseymart which is a free local paper in Liverpool, Merseyside. Each week there are lots of leaflets to be delivered with it. It may worth getting some small A5 leaflets printed and paying to get them delivered with what ever free local paper is delivered in the areas you want to target. Or approach a company that just do leaflet deliveries. If you could not go the direct route to paper, then try and find out who actually delivers the paper etc and give them say ?5.00 for a large quantity, they get paid buttons from the supplier. Hope this helps and everyone is rooting for Molly and her owner. If you need any further advice on the leaflet distribution just send me a p.m. Luv Jan (Liverpool) xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to owner yesterday, she got Molly as a rescue aged about five years of age. Molly was living for some time as a stray, hense it appears she has the know how to scavenge bins. Her owner told me she has been out searching for her but is having health problems. She was really worried yesterday about her being out in the bad weather. She has been in touch with the RSPCA officer in the area, also the dog walden and rings the police station each day. I told her that there are people postering for Molly and she said to thank everyone for there help. Debbie X.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got in and caught up with the updates. If anything I'd guess the Hathaway Road Grays sighting is more likely to be her as a bit nearer to Chafford 100, her escape point. Tilbury would be a bit more of a trek for the love and I thought the same Kath W - there always seems to be lots of loose dogs in Tilbury! Will get my two settled and go out looking in Hathaway Road area shortly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a word with the guy in the dry cleaners - he knew nothing, just said that he thought someone had reported seeing "a dog" at the back of his shop around the bins. Walked around the back, put up a poster and chatted to some kids. They said there were always dogs hanging around at the back of the shops. (This is Tilbury after all - well known for dogs running loose!) Had a walk around the market and put up more posters. If she was going to be anywhere in Tilbury, she'd be hanging around the market scrounging for food. The smell from the burger stall and all the scraps lying around would have tempted her. Not a sign of her, and I'm not convinced it really was Molly that was seen. Shame we haven't had another definite sighting. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to the neighbour again this morning and he told me they'd also had a sighting in Hathaway Road yesterday. Can anyway have a look around there if I do Tilbury, around the dry cleaners? He also told me she hasn't had an operation - she'd been attacked by another dog and was badly bitten. Poor girl - traumatised by a dog attack and now this!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

More info: Rang one of the mobile numbers on the poster and spoke to the owner's next door neighbour. Apparently the dog comes from the Buckles Lane area, South Ockendon. She has no collar because the vets took it off. She's in a totally strange area and if now in Little Thurrock is quite a long way from her home. I'll have a drive around the streets this morning.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So maybe she could still be around and about on Chafford Hundred then after all. Don't think the owner lives on Ch100 because of phone codes (see below), but don't know where they do live.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I asked around at work this morning and two of my staff definitely saw her (the red bandage confirms it) running along Drake Road, in the Lakeside direction, on Tuesday. Do we know for sure that the dog seen in Little Thurrock yesterday, was the right dog? The red bandage is a very good i.d. Do we know what road the owner lives in - that might help if she's trying to make her way home. Will poster Little Thurrock and Pet Zone this morning anyway. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

PS: the dressing on her back half could well have fallen off by now, but just to add it was quite big and bright red so made her very noticeable (I originally thought she was an escaped bitch in season wearing a pair of knickers!)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If she was seen in the Little Thurrock school area this afternoon, I can put some posters up tomorrow in that area. We really need to know though, which vets she disappeared from. It makes sense that it would be the Riverside vets as they are close to Little Thurrock School. If it's the Apex Vets, then she must have travelled some distance, or there is another dog of similar appearance wandering around the Chafford Hundred Estate. PLEASE can someone clarify which vets?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I walked on the footpath around the top of the EWT reserve (by the visitor centre) today looking down into the whole reserve, but didn't see any dogs running around down there. I was woken this morning at 4am by one of my dogs barking back at a dog outside that was barking. Not something that normally happens and I thought it odd at the time if it was someone walking a dog at 4am, nobody close has a dog that lives in the garden. After getting the poster I'm now wondering if by some chance it was Molly having a night time stroll?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Not sure if it was a Labrador or Molly but saw a similar dog in Warren Lane, close to the junction with Clockhouse Lane. The dog was without an owner and eating from black rubbish bins that were placed outside one of the large houses along Warren Lane. This was a few days ago. Incidently, did a check on Apex Vets. The only one I can find in Grays is the one in Drake Road, Chafford Hundred. Has anyone been down any of the gorges recently ? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Chafford Hundred is a really large housing estate, postcode RM16, about a mile away from Grays, Essex. When I first and last spotted Molly it was 8.20am on Friday 12th. She was stood on the verge of Devonshire Road by the nature reserve that lies between Chafford Hundred and Badgers Dean, I know she was sighted after that but don't know where. I see that her owners phone number code is 01708 which is different to Chafford Hundred 01375 codes so I would guess poor Molly wouldn't really recognise the area she had found herself in.
