The spaniel found locally was not Poppy. A gentleman came here at the weekend selling barrels from the back of his transit. I don't know where he's from but he knew all about "the little girl who'd saved up for 2 years and had her puppy stolen - shame" so I made it very clear that the reward money is waiting to be claimed. Marshend and Manray - I see your handiwork out and about still - thank you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Pleased to report that Beauty and Badger are doing well. They had a lovely time on the beach yesterday and we are looking forward to starting puppy school on wednesday. Back to Poppy - some of her litter mates have had their first seasons so PLEASE PLEASE keep a look out in your area for adverts for cocker or sprocker puppies without papers. I pray she is in a private home somewhere being pampered but it is entirely possible that she is still on a site somewhere with a view to breeding.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rebecca, I hope today that Lottie's homecoming after 10 months gives you a bit of hope that Poppy will be home too. Lottie was taken by the same sort of people yet she still made it home... Andrea was as devastated and dedicated in her search to find her as you are being - and it can happen. Would love to see some pics of Badger and Beauty if you have time to email me any, it would be fantastic to see a happy little pair! Slightly traumatic day - I've been down to visit the client I bought Poppy from today and I knew that was going to be hard. They were very kind and made nice noises about the new pair. We've all got our fingers crossed that the chip will bring her home. And - Badger got a clean bill of health from the vet this afternoon thank God. Poor vet was rather nervous! Badger didn't like the travel box and shredded his paper which everyone thought was cute. Poppy is now 6 months old so please everyone - let me know if you see cocker or sprocker puppies or even springers (amateur could confuse her for a small ESS) with no papers advertised soon..... and I see marshend and manray have been out and about today - thanks so much and sorry I missed you. Next time! RebeccaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Our new boy is called Badger and seems to have settled in ok now. I was so worried about a big podgy boy puppy squashing my delicate little Beauty I didn't stop to think about him - and although he is bigger than her when he arrived of course he was 2 weeks younger than Beauty and didn't know anyone or where anything was - and she has suddenly become very playful and bossy!! Poor little chap - didn't know what had hit him! He's got brave enough to bark at her now if she's too horrid! Delightful to watch and definately the right thing to do. He was born on the day Poppy was stolen so lets hope that is a good omen. Just got to pluck up the courage to get him vaccinated now, I suppose. I hope that Beauty will prove the vets wrong and that Poppy will be reunited with us, but I doubt either will happen. Would love to be proved wrong! Thanks for all the support I've had from you guys at doglost. I still have to check in daily - but no longer 15 times daily.... RebeccaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well - we've gone and done it now! I looked at some puppies on Saturday but they only had boys left and something was worrying me because I've only had girls for the last 15 years, even though one of the chaps fell in love with me and Margaret. Sent my husband down to see what he thought and he brought him home with him this evening! Was terribly worried that Beauty would be tormented by another pup - he's larger than her already - but he is more traumatised than she is! She has been bouncing around and showing off! Give it 24 hours and they'll both have shaken down. Just have to think of a name for the tubby little barrel now - something old-fashioned I think. Will email a photo tomorrow, so any suggestions welcome! Still miss Poppy dreadfully, and want her home. It's been suggested she has been sold abroad already to get over the microchip. Hope not - makes chipping them a total farce. Wonder if going and begging the people who stole her to get her back would work or if I'd just get more trouble. It feels awful trying to move on and I would love to turn the clock back and not have lost Poppy, and for Beauty not to be ill but we are where we are, I suppose. RLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everyone for the kind words you've sent both about Poppy and poor liitle Beauty - several people have pm'd me and I do appreciate your thoughts. We've decided as a family that we would like to find another springer as close in age to Beauty as possible to run on with her, to help mend our broken hearts a bit when hers gives up. Also - from a practical point of view I will struggle to get time off work in 6 months to do the puppy training bit AGAIN so if we can do it all now I may retain some credibility at work also. It will make this early puppy stage easier, and the vet has said that Beauty is in no pain and oblivious of her condition and that another puppy will make her life better rather than worse, so I think that is what we will do. I know that training two adolescent dogs will be hard work however! If anyone knows of any springer pups- female since I do not want to spey Beauty and CANNOT risk any accidents - I'd love to know asap. Working strain rather than show if possible, but M would love to do agility or obedience classes at low level. It will make it easier to view Beauty as a happy little soul just passing through if we know we have a longer term friend to keep us company. I do not ever give up hope of Poppy coming home but it becomes less likely as time passes. Thanks again for everyone's suppport, RebeccaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rebecca, I think dogs with special needs find their own owners, they choose them because they need them to show them that people care and despite the heartache they might cause, that their lives are fulfilled, loving and to teach us that every moment in life is a special one that needs to be cherished. That's why Beauty came into your lives... she needs you as much as you need her... and she'll repay your love tenfold, believe me.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rebecca it has taken some courage for you to post the outcome of your visit to the vet. As I said to you my own GSD was diagnosed with a heart murmur and was only given a short life span but he out grew his condition and lived a good life. Thinking of you and Margaret. Well, I wish someone would find Poppy and claim the reward money. I think we're going to need another four legged friend at home because there is nothing that can be done for Beauty and we have to face up to the fact that we either put her down now, or at some point over the next few months she is just going to down dead. I'm wondering if having a dog in the house when that happens will make it a little easier for Margaret and I to bear, rather than looking at an empty bed again. Not sure how easy it is to try and train two puppies, or if that will be too much stress for Beauty. Who knows. I guess you could call me the dog Jonah. All I wanted was to have a smart, well trained little dog around that we could all love and that Margaret could take off to obedience or agility classes. I didn't think it was a big ask, and we were prepared to put in all the time, love and money needed. Why are these things happening to us?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rebbecca- sorry as well to hear about little Beauty but as Dee said maybe something could be done? Its a shame your recent event provided no news but again i have to echo what Dee has said. if she is too hot to handle then there is less chance of selling her on. Lets hope that 'someone' will suddenly 'find her' and phone to collect the reward money!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh rebecca I'm so sorry to hear about Beauty. Can you investigate surgery or is that not possible? As regards too hot to handle - no such thing as impossible to return - if they know where she is and know that money talks they'll find her, even now... if the channels of communication are open they can still "find" her... and if that friend knows who did it or where she'd gone then I'd slap him dead hard if I were you...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Poppy's owner
Well, just when you think it can't get any worse - it does. I was hoping for news about Poppy today, I had an avenue being investigated but no luck. My friend in the village who knows most of what goes on said he felt I'd created so much publicity so quickly that I'd made the dog "too hot to handle" so the gang (who are apparantly well known for doing this) couldn't use their usual tactic of "finding" the dog and claiming the reward. He felt if I'd sat tight quietly she may well have been home within 10 days - he thinks now they'll have settled for two hundred quid to get rid of her. I suppose I'll never know, but for the record - I will pay handsomely for the safe return of Poppy and be for ever grateful. There will be no follow up with police, dog wardens or anyone else. We need her back - read on. Worse still - we learned today that our beautiful new puppy has a heart problem that means she will not see her first birthday. The aorta has thick tissues surrounding it that have compromised the flow of blood into the heart and it is under stress. He said that she will start to have fainting fits as she gets more active and grows and that she will suffer from "sudden death" - i.e. she's going to dead one day. When I asked about the time span, he said he'd had a boxer last as long as 8 months once. So Margaret and I are now broken hearted again, before we've even patched ourselves up. I just don't know what to do...... I guess I'm going to another dress size still before we play happy families again - either that or I'll be enrolled with AA.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

DOGLOST majorjet - Liverpool @ 13:00 - 26/1/2007 Rebecca your time will come when Poppy is scanned and you get that important telephone. There is one avenue I would take if my dog was missing. I deliver the Merseymart which is a free local paper in Liverpool, Merseyside. Each week there are lots of leaflets to be delivered with it. It may worth getting some small A5 leaflets printed and paying to get them delivered with what ever free local paper is delivered in the areas you want to target. Or approach a company that just do leaflet deliveries. If you could not go the direct route to paper, then try and find out who actually delivers the paper etc and give them say ?5.00. Hope this helps and everyone is rooting for Poppy to come home. If you need any further advice on the leaflet distribution just e-mail me. Luv Jan xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

manray @ 10:28 - 26/1/2007 rebecca who was this person in authority? they maybe right about her being sold on, but that in a way is good news, because if she has been sold on to a member of the public then hopefully they will take her in to a vets or take her for a walk where other members of the public can see her. all it takes is for one person to see a poster and poppy and ring you. try to be strong for margarets sake. just keep doing what you have been doing, get poppy in the news and more people will see your story, keep bothering the police and the rescue's. keep postering, but go further afield with your posters, keep giving the smaller posters to dog walkers. we are here to help you, we are not going to give up. someone has poppy and we will find out who. mandy Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poppy's owner @ 9:59 - 26/1/2007 Thank you everyone for your help and encouragment - well timed since I hit an all time low last night. I was told yesterday by someone in authority that whoever stole Poppy definately won't still have her, they will have sold her at a boot fair because my reward wasn't high enough - but not to worry because they may have been nice people that bought her who might take her to the vet where her chip will be read. For the record, of course we are offering a cash reward - I thought the amount was open to negotiation. I do keep trying to stay positive but I'm not coping very well, and nor is Margaret. Poppy's owner @ 16:23 - 24/1/2007 Hi everyone, we're no further forward at the moment but I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I know Marshend and Manray are out postering at the moment because they've replaced the poster on my gate which had run in all the rain! I have a new friend in the media who is trying to get Poppy and all these dog thefts into the national papers and he has been working hard today - there is a new post on the Kent on Sunday website about Poppy and Margaret. And we've had a very kind gamekeeper from Nettlestead telephone - he was so moved by the article in the paper that he would like to give Margaret a puppy - his springer is about to come into season and he'd like her to have one as a gift. Very, very kind. I will write and thank him and we'll see how he and we feel when they arrive - its a long time away (and I'm also secretly worried that a springer may be a little to large for a 7 year old to handle!). So there are some lovely people out there as well as these unthinking thieves. Thanks again, Rebecca Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poppy's owner - having read the article and realising that Poppy *really* is your little girl's dog... and she is really upset at the moment, you know that it's absolutely ok for her to come on here (with your help and supervision) and ask us questions or for help - if she wants to get involved and feel like she is doing something to help get Poppy back rather than feeling sad then we'd love to have her on board, and we'll do all we can to reassure her that all the Medway & Maidstone team of helpers will do all we can to help her. Thanks everyone for all your support. Margaret and Poppy are in the Maidstone KM on the front page & page 3, and on p4 of the Paddock Wood Courier. She should also be on the front page of the Downsmail but I haven't seen that yet. Hoping she will be in a national tomorrow, maybe the Telegraph. Fingers crossed. Unable to get hold of Maidstone Police for an update today but will keep trying.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

it's in the online kent messenger: http://www.kentmessenger.co.uk/news/default.asp?article_id=30290 and for the first time the KM included our details!! (still didn't include owners but only the police which is a bummer but hey they're getting there!). Great article!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poppy's owner
I have informed police HQ what I know about the car - it matches the description when run through vehicle ID which is a good sign. They are going to "allocate" it as soon as possible. Have just had distressing news from local vet (Bell Equine) - her dog (4 year old liver and white english springer) stolen from a locked car on a client visit. Dog will be on this site soon, we are swapping posters. Look out for her too. Many Kent vets now looking for these two dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Apparantly neighbour in road saw a poster of missing Poppy and remembered the strange car in owners drive and they had noted car number .Then made the connection. Lets hope Kent police act on this now! There appears to be a little confusion over car make and model but number plates come up as peugeot 405.ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poppy's owner
Thank you everyone for all your help and support. Poppy and my daughter will be in tomorrow's KM, Courier and Downsmail and I've just given an interview with BBC Radio Kent. I have walked my boundaries and can see no obvious signs of entry, or of Poppy. If she had escaped from the thieves she would have been able to get into the lorry breakers - found damaged fence at dog level -who say they saw nothing. Please, all, keep putting posters up - I will plaster my area later and tomorrow (when correct ink cartridge arrives). The KM reporter saw a poster Chris and Mandy put up yestrerday and called me as a result. Thank you - your support is all that is keeping me going at the moment.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poppy had the blue collar on that is in the photo. Owner has a crime number and believes her stolen but we must bear in mind the possibility that she may be loose. ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poppy went missing from Clay pit road betweenYalding and Collier Street which is a village. She has been described as working cocker type rather than a show type so she is quite lean and has full tail.ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

At first glance I thought Poppy was a Springer too! A clear head photo or Poppy standing up might help, as the two breeds do look very different. Good that she has been chipped. Hope this young puppy is safely home with her family very soonxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been to owners and she has been given lots of contacts and advice, posters have gone up and newspaper coming out tomorrow to take photos etc have spoken to them and asked them to put Doglost contact number in the article.(weald courier I believe) Travellers sites in area will all be visited by the weekend and 2 ladies who helped us deal with a fox that had been hit( died) have taken posters to copy and promised to put up and in pubs etc. We will cover the whole area and all vets are being emailed posters also rescues.Looks like a theft but still possibility she escaped and rural area so lots of posters anywhere please as she could have been picked up and taken further afield. Thanks Mandy for doing the puddles bit! ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
