Jackie, I am so terribly, terribly sorry. My heart really goes out to you. I am also so angry that it took this long for you to be informed. I want you to know that it would have been instant. No suffering. Nothing. If Pip did run off, it would have been instinct for a second, but would feel no pain. I know your heart is ripped out and there seem to be no answers, but you must trust there was reason, even though it makes no sense. Please remember you DID find her. She is no longer lost. I will email you later on. Pip is so special that God took her quickly, without pain because she has earnt her little wings. She will watch over you whilst you continue to earn yours and then, one day, you will all be together again. This time, never to part. Talk to her, she will hear you as she is only a whisper away. Reach out, she'll be there. In time, may your hearts know peace. God bless you and precious Pip, always. With love, Kim x

Jackie, just reading back through these posts. Network Rail can often be wrong - it is such a big organisation they don't know what each other is doing and unless they have physically checked, they really do not know if there is an animal there. They will not let you walk the tracks because it is against the law, so just get as close as you can. Now, if you know it is possible that kids took Pip from the platform, then we need to widen our search. Every lead no matter how small, right or wrong, needs to be followed. We need Pip's details and posters sent that way. Yes, it is very possible someone has picked her up. It's hard to know for sure either way as we don't know the extent of the electric shock she had. It may just have been a quick buzz and she got away quick enough for it to do no harm, apart from a bit of a fright. I must say, most dogs who tread on live tracks go to heaven immediately and are found right there because it is instant. So, the fact that Pip ran off, is good news. Can you tell me the exact areas along the train route that we need to get word out to? We can then share on facebook and twitter as well. I'd also get some posters up at all the stations along the route if you can Jackie, and, we can ask others to help if we know which stations etc. I know you are in hell right now, and my heart goes out to you, I too have been there. But, all you can do, is keep plodding on and eventually answers should appear. Did you ask the local paper to do a story? They won't do a missing dog story, but they may well do a "dog seen treading on live rail and now lost" story. That is news to them. Do try. And the local radio. If they say no, you have not lost anything, but someone at sometime may say yes. Dogs are very resilient so if Pip is out there, she can fend for herself better than you think until she is found. Please hang in there. All you can do is the best you can do and trust that she is okay, wherever she is. You and Pip are in my prayers. Keep going..... xxx

Sophie, that is excellent. Thank you. It was Network Rail workers on the line that located my dog, so as long as they are all aware by seeing posters and hearing about Pip, they should look out for her. x
WalkieswithAce
Hi Jackie - I've sent Pip's poster over to a friend who knows a driver on that line. I've asked if he can circulate and see if any further help is available. They did the same for Ace, but it was a friend riding the train who saw her.

Also another friend and regular walker at BPP said this: "I have walked along as near to the railway track as possible for the last two mornings and called her name and listened out at quiet times in case I could hear whimpering or anything but there's been nothing. I did notice they have started working on the embankment today so if I catch the network rail workers as I walk up tomorrow morning I will ask if they can keep an eye out as I would think if she was injured from touching the live rail she may have taken cover. There are lots of little arches that run under the railway tracks so will ask the workers to check them if they are passing. I did look at dog lost as I thought it might be worth telling the owners that the network rail workers are there"
hwarner
Perhaps as no news she has been taken in by someone. In which case letters through doors might be a good idea? Harder to ignore than a poster and some people may not see posters, even if they are everywhere? Keeping everything crossed for you x
jackie
how can we get the train people to look at the cameras for sunday afternoon , we are clutching at straws perhaps , some kids did see her on platform and took her on train to the end sevenoaks ,then dumped her ?? as sightings there of black dog , but so many dogs missing , and since been told of many more lost on the railway good and bad out comes x
Millys Mum
I'm so sorry to hear about Pip. I live in Beckenham, albeit on the West Wickham side but work at the top end of Copers Cope Road, closest to BPP, and so have been keeping my eyes peeled when arriving and leaving work. In answer to your question about walking the tracks (because I would want to do that myself if it were my dog that was missing) clearly Network Rail wouldn't allow that but wondering whether, if you went to the station late evening and before the last trains go through, whether you might spot a gang of track maintenance workmen who might be working along that part of the track. Of course they might meet up further along the track, say Shortlands station and then work their way along towards Ravensbourne station. I seem to recall that a Helper who posted a message on Ace's page, said that they knew one of the drivers or maintenance men ((but might be wrong). I expect WalkieswithAce would know whether I'm right or wrong. I do hope that someone nearby has found her and that they just haven't spotted one of Pip's Missing posters yet. All you need to find is a caring, dog-loving Network Rail employee or contactor who would be prepared to check the lines late night or early morning. Fingers crossed that tomorrow will bring about a sighting of Pip. Good Luck.Last edited: 2014-12-04 18:53:21 by Millys Mum

really want to walk each side of the track to have a good look ,can I get any net rail to let us do that or for them to do it ?, or think somebody has taken her in and likes her and have kept her as she loves people and children , no chip reading been taken so sad , have got to no one way or another ,we are in hell at moment , thanks to every one for all your help x
jackie
Thank you everyone, still no sign of her, network rail managed to confirm to us yesterday that no bodies had been seen or recovered on that stretch so that can only be a good sign, still searching and still hoping, thank you all so much for your help and support x
WalkieswithAce
I walked along Beckenham Place Park (at the same point where Pip went missing and was sighted) this morning and at lunchtime and the trains were going much slower than usual - coming up to the bridge they were slowing down. That was how we found the body of my dog on the same stretch of line - took 5 days to recover her. Will keep looking hoping Pip has gone to ground and will be picked up by a warden soon.Last edited: 2014-12-02 15:17:38 by WalkieswithAce

This is what Network Rail is told to say, what they do is a completely different matter. It also depends on the individual in NR and whether they care enough to follow through. The owner of dogs on DogLost that have not been notified, are many. A few areas are good and will even scan (ie Leeds station) but the rest fall far, far behind. They keep no records and it can take months to find out, if ever, that is why owners need to put pressure on now, just in case Pip is there. I am hoping she has escaped or is lying low. But it does need to be physically checked PROPERLY by the station. The clean up crews are contractors who rarely even check the tag and do NOT scan. Trains do NOT as a rule, slow down for dogs, however, occasionally if the public is distressed they may do, but they will NOT stop the trains for a dog sadly. We won't let them win though, okay?! We never give up! Jackie, keep going. Wherever she is there, perseverance will find her, okay? If she isn't near the tracks, she will crop up elsewhere and with loads of posters someone will call you. The most important thing is to get word out - call the papers, transport police, the local radio. A dog being on the tracks is news, they may just run this. We had this with Poppy - they searched for ages and eventually ended up on TV. A train driver then came forward. With Treacle owners badgered NR until they checked and she was located. With Khan, co-ordinator Helen and owner managed to capture him from the tracks! There is always hope but you must keep getting hundreds of posters up. You are doing great! Hang in there. You will find her. We are all here for you and Pip. xxx
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
I have messaged a friend of mine who is a train driver to see if anything can be done. I was led to believe that if a dog is reported to be seen on the tracks the drivers are alerted and slow down in the area. My friend does also carry a spare dog lead with her when driving the trains. Just had message back saying that any deceased animals are picked up by the 'clean up crew' and owners contacted if they have a tag on them but she is not sure if they are scanned for microchips. She has also said she will post a message to her colleagues on that line to look out for Pip. Stay safe Pip.

So sorry to hear about Pip. Have just helped recover a dog missing for a week and who had travelled 6 miles within London. There was a huge operation with masses of posters and letter drops. That was the essential part of the search. Can't emphasise the importance of it enough. Am based in SE24 and will keep an eye out for any news that she headed in this direction.

Stay safe now Pip until you are found.
jackie
we did the train ride between stations and no result
WalkieswithAce
Jackie - I have started a thread on Streetlife (the local discussion forum) asking train travellers to look out, with Pip's poster. I'm sorry I can't walk the track myself but will of course have another look this morning when I'm at Beckenham Place Park. Hope for some news soon, thoughts with you guys xx
Shelagh
With reference to checking embankment of last sighting. If train not express a couple of you can just ride a few stops and check embankment .

You will have to fight with Network Rail and possibly the station to get people to help. If she kept going, we have hope, but more little mite. She needs to be found. She could have injuries. If Rail won't help call British Transport Police and beg for assistance. The track needs to be walked by them. Susi, well done for this - you never know how much this may help. At least we know where she is. We need as many people as possible to contact NR and the station - please don't give up! If it was someone famous they would be there immediately.

Has anybody approached station staff concerning pip. Maybe they saw her. Network rail. are a bit of a pain, you will have to insist they check the embankment alongside track. You have a location as mentioned in post below.. Also try handing out flyers to commuters at station tonight they may have seen where she went. Good luck

This is definitely the dog that we saw running alongside the railway track going from the Ravensbourne Station end towards Beckenham Hill. She had tried to cross the line and had trodden on the live rail as she screamed but continued running along the side. We were in the wooded area and she ignored us as she was in a panic. If she made it to Beckenham Hill Station then she would have been able to get onto the platform. So, so sorry, we were so upset and felt completely helpless. Hope that you may be able to find her.

Sorry to hear about Pip. It's worth printing out lots of business-card size pieces of paper and handing them out to all dog walkers in the local area. Then if people see Pip they don't need to get back to a poster on a tree to give you a call. If you'd like me to prepare a PDF to email you so that you can print out and cut up then please email me info@safedog.co.uk. Good luck, hope she's home soon.
WalkieswithAce
A medium-sized black dog was seen yesterday late afternoon running along railway track from Ravensbourne in the direction of Southend Road – I think the next station is Beckenham Hill before it goes on to Catford. I phoned Network Rail but they said they couldn't do anything unless the dog was in a 'fixed location', although they would put a message out. Not sure what else to do other than suggest as many people look on the railway line as they can. There are gaps in the fence on the Ravensbourne line where dogs can get through. The rail is live there too so it;s a bit of a worry. Hope Pip finds her way home.

I know millypod! This PIP on this poster (Dog ID 79077) still missing, but the other one (Dog ID 79065), who was lost in South Side of Hyde park, London, W3 has just been reunited. They are different dogs, but with same personal details (name, breed, gender, operation, etc). Interesting! x
