  • Other Info 4146 - entire male staff x, very handsome boy and again a lovely temperament. Fine to handle and appears to be okay with other dogs. No history on him so can't say what like with cats - looking for rescue space ideally because he came in looking so skinny. would consider the right home direct - as poundie no young children of course, other dogs must come meet him beforehand and someone with experience to be careful with his diet etc.

love happy endings especially when the dog is a staffie. a fifth of all dogs in rescue centres are staffies. the recent horror fire in Yorkshire killed all the dogs - all of which breeding staffies.......... beggars belief that there is a market for staffie puppies when so very many are in need of a home. who are the buyers and who are those who abandon them.... sadly no legislation seems to exist - anyone can breed and sell. apparently most of the victims at Manchester dogs home, and most of the survivors were stsffies. spencer is unbelievably lucky to have been found by this special dog warden whose efforts saved his life. every day dogs throughout the country are killed in many different animal establishments sometimes within days, other times after months, to make way for newly abandoned dogs. my six are all rescued, two orphaned and none of the family or friends wanted them, the others for various reasons ........ treated like cars or phones. I wish nobody was allowed to breed unless they had a licence = but someone I know of has a handsome black lab and a lovely female black lab and decided to have a litter, she had 6 he sold for £400 esach ................£3600 - now thinking of having another litter

Hazel you are literally a life saver.........again.
Awful though it is, I suspect the PTS date being given may be the only way to find a home or rescue space in time.

I have now passed arrangements over to DW Alison as Spencer will be off in time for some lunch tomorrow....yay!!! ....so pleased that the wonderful Debbie, Animal Welfare Officerat at Cheltenham Animal Welfare and Animal Shelter has agreed to take Spencer so that the good work started can continue ...I can't express how worried I was for this little man but after many phone calls, emails and social media he is safe so that his forever home can begin xx Big hugs Spencer and for everyone who was looking out for him :))

Back to Spencer, with all the lovely helpers and especially Ms Hazel I'm sure we will find somewhere for him.

Added point re his behaviour - kennel staff have noted that he wees a LOT. Nerves of course, he's a friendly dog but will roll over and wee, wee if he's placed on a vet table or other their new scales... Clearly this poor lad has not had the best treatment in his past although he holds no grudges as you can see in the pics. But just to be aware that house training/confidence building may be needed!

Appreciate the thought Seeks (and all the help you've given us in the past :))
but it is a very real threat for these dogs - our usual rescues just can't fit them in at the moment so we have to go further afield.
We've not yet had to PTS a dog just because we can't find somewhere for it but its come very close! Unfortunately with so many staffy types looking for places we have to make sure people realise the urgency of the situation - I have found putting the PTS date is the only way of making sure they don't get overlooked.

I'd love to keep them for as long as it takes but we're not a rescue centre, we are a pound and council funds are limited. Getting on my soap box for a moment I think people need to see how serious the situation with strays is in this country - so they will help with educating other people in not breeding from their dogs or consider adopting a rescue dog etc

We do the best we can for our dogs but we are also lucky that our numbers are such that we have that luxury - some councils have many more and have no option but to PTS as they literally run out of kennel room

Getting off soap box now - hope you understand was just explaining position and why I put PTS dates, not meant in any negative way :)
I try to be as honest as can with the dog write ups and this will include if an end date has been set for them
Should also mention that with several of our dogs recently we knew who the owner was and they had been informed - they just hadn't bothered to come for them. It is indeed a throwaway society

I am waiting to hear back from 4 rescue homes and keeping in close touch with them ;)

Any news?

I have dropped another email to Blue Cross who were originally interested in Appleton (who off course is now sorted with a nice new home!)...., see if they will offer space to Spencer instead in Burford ...do this first thing Mon xx
Seeks
Gog Magog if my memory serves me (and it doesn't always) you go the extra 500 miles let alone the extra mile for these dogs.....So kinda thinking next time please put needs homing rescue space after the date not pts.... your not callous and you don't half try for them....

Will share, tweet and gently lean on some rescues in the hope space can be found for him xx

Surely this young boy cannot be PTS. Fingers crossed a rescue place is found for him. X

Swindon has 18 postcodes all starting with SN. The town centre is SN25. Somebody could be looking for these dogs IF they haven't been previously advertised.

Totally agree - shared on facebook x
