oh no!! I had hoped he might have had more than 3 months to start trusting... This is so tragic. Poor poor poor dog. I really loathe my own species sometimes (though there are exceptions of course). Rest in peace. You did not deserve the life you had. x
Carol
Poor boy it wasn't even your fault , sleep tight sweetheart in your safe place now xxxx

I'm very sorry that Mutley had to die, but by all accounts it was better for him. I feel that everything was done for him by his carers, and hope that the people responsible for his state when found are brought to justice.

So sad to read this outcome for poor Mutley, some comfort in knowing you last days were in comfort and pain free
RIP brave boy xxx
Paula Griffin's Mum
How deeply saddened I am for this poor baby, I knew Mutley was in the green and then I saw his name in the blue and my heart skipped a beat as I hoped for a split second, afraid to look further, but looking confirmed my worst fears as I read that this beautiful little man has gone to Rainbow Bridge, with a lump in my throat and with tears pricking my eyes I thought of him passing from a psychological turmoil of pain into, what I truly hope is a better place for his soul to finally be at peace…

Tears flowed when I initially saw the photos of him, as he looked so lost, hurt, forlorn, broken, as much as it would have broken my heart even more to see his physical scars for real, I think I would have liked to have been the person to find him, I would have liked to think he may have let me comfort him and show and give him the much needed love he (& so many others) deserve, they really don’t ask for much do they and they most certainly don’t ask for this either do they, it’s barbarically forced upon them by human, no, sub-human low life scum who are weak, soulless, heartless, cold, dead individuals (hold back here, as I don’t want to be pinked)…

We truly hope you felt some love before you left this cruel world, we will light a candle for you dear Mutley this evening and I will send out my own message to the universe to ask again that sooner rather than later this will stop… may you Rest in Peace Angel Mutley (((gentle hugs))) as you go on your new journey…

Sadly he has been out to sleep.

"We have received regular updates from the RSPCA regarding Mutley. Sadly today we received this very sad news which we are sorry to have to share with you all. Rest in peace Mutley, you were loved xx
"The RSPCA can confirm that sadly Mutley the dog has been put to sleep.
"Mutley had been with the RSPCA since 26 June after he was found with suspected fighting-related injuries in a park in Birmingham. Appeals to find out who was behind his injuries and abandonment were not successful and it was hoped that Mutley could be treated and find a new home.
"As with all dogs in our care, our experienced staff spent a great deal of time working with Mutley trying to help him overcome his fear of other dogs and people. We also sought the advice of an independent clinical animal behaviourist.
"Sadly, however, as a result of his previous ill treatment and because he was consistently showing aggressive behaviour towards other animals and people, Mutley would never have been a dog that we could have safely rehomed."
:(

Have there been any more updates on this lovely lad xxxx
allimac
Thanks for the update. Small steps for poor Mutley, but brilliant that he is receiving the care he needs and hopefully he will get to a stage where he can start to enjoy life. Well done RSPCA. x

That is good news. Well done to all involved in his rehabilitation. xx

DDA watch update
We have received a further reply to our recent email to the RSPCA regarding Mutley, the update is as follows: 'There is no further update at this stage. He is still receiving care and also being assessed behaviourally. As I am sure you are aware, rehabilitation for some dogs can take quite some time. But rest assured we are working with him to try and get him in as best position for rehoming'.

I tried to complain about that documentary but ofcom's website kept falling over - hoping this was due to the number of complaints they had!!
Bo
Silver - They think this one was one of those dogs on that documentary and there is going to an OFCOM inquiry after over 1800 complaints were filed against the program. Hope they get fined and the money goes towards the poor wretches who suffer. http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jun/30/channel-4-dog-fighting-documentary-cutting-edge-ofcom
silver
Only just seen this. Another example of human depravity - perhaps these "humans" need to be put in a fighting ring and experience torture and suffering. Anyone see the recent TV documentary on dog fighting? Praying for Mutley to get better and find his forever loving home - tougher laws and punishments needed for the "humans" and more protection/positive public awareness/government action needed for the "bull breeds and crosses".
allimac
I wonder if it is possible to have another photo of him, now he is hopefully feeling a bit better? Such a state he is in in the photo currently. Makes my blood boil..
Kit'sMum
Yes, I'm also delighted that he has been found to not be "of type", whatever that means. Who cares? But I never thought he was anyway. I always saw him, and still do, as a poor abused little staffie who needs and deserves a second chance. I'm glad he is being looked after, and believe that all our efforts have born fruit and may perhaps give him the chance of a better life he so deserves.

poor poor soul. How could they? What is wrong with our species?!?
It is great that he is confirmed not of type and will be given a chance. It does highlight the disgusting practice, the misunderstanding about breeds and that the law needs to be MUCH tougher on people who treat animals in any way close to this!
I do wonder why they tied him up to railings, with water, rather than other options? Maybe someone on the fringes of these vile people with some remnant of a conscience??
digbysmum
Poor dear Mutley. I do hope that he is safe now, and makes a full recovery from his injuries and the terrible ordeal he suffered at the hands of these evil scumbags. Do hope he soon finds his new forever home xxx

Glad he is safe (for the moment). He just needs a knowledgeable & safe home now.
It is so sad that a lot of people still do not know what is going on with all these dogs :(

Well done RSPCA for helping this dog. I too will make a donation this month.

Thank you for your update Bo, this is such good news. Let's hope he can overcome what has been thrown at him and find a knowledgeable home,

Bo
This dog is SAFE. Classed non type and RSPCA say he is still very poorly but they've worked hard behind the scenes helping him.
I have to say I thought he was type so never been more delighted to be wrong. The RSPCA worked hard for him to be saved. He's still very poorly but in good hands. Last edited: 2014-07-05 18:54:03 by Bo

Mrs Mop

DDA Watch have received an official update from the RSPCA in writing, regarding the dog called Mutley, as follows -

Mutley the dog is receiving veterinary treatment for his injuries and is being cared for. We are also awaiting formal identification from a police DLO which will determine the next steps.

The RSPCA is opposed to breed specific legislation.Last edited: 2014-06-30 18:31:45 by Mrs Mop

YES SECOND THAT COMMENT ,,. . SHOW PEOPLE THAT DOGS LIKE HIM CAN REHABILITATE AND BECOME GOOD CANINES IN SOCIETY AFTER ALL IT WAS THAT DISGUSTING HUMAN SOCIETY THAT DONE THIS TO HIM XX
Kit'sMum
Tragic. I still feel he could and should be saved. I am sure there is a female household somewhere that could look after him well, keeping him on a lead and maybe muzzled while out and about. None of his reactions are his fault, and I believe he still deserves a second chance.
Happiness yorkie lover xxx
WHAT A SHAME THAT THE HUMAN HAS DONE TO THIS BOY AND THOUSANDS MORE SHAME ON THEM ALL , THEY WILL MEET THERE MAKER AND BE JUDGED AND SENT TO HELL ,,,,,,
Bo
From DDA watch Facebook page;
"The update from the RSPCA is in my earlier comments from yesterday and followed a call from the RSPCA Inspector who has been given his case - he is alive - he is yet to be breed tested - he is dog aggressive and he is male human aggressive - he is ok with female humans and is being cared for at the RSPCA as of yesterday - he was in the local pound but he was transferred I assume due to the public interest in him . The RSPCA inspector believes he is a pit bull from her experience of other dogs that have come into the RSPCA - if he is then they are saying he will be PTS as they will not be able to re home him - if he is not then they will follow a different process with assessing his temperament and seeing if he is able to be rehomed - this is what they advised I am just sharing the facts as advised by the RSPCA ."
Please note these are not my comments - cut and paste from someone else's post.

Bless this boy. Assume no chip? Thing is, fear of people and circumstances could make him angry. Wouldn't we? I'm sure a year ago somewhere of someone who helped staffys because of bad press. I may have read in Your Dog online? I use to buy Your Cat. I can't think of where else I would have read it.he needs a chance. Is it poss stolen and used. I will post twitter @helpfindthem14 Maybe can add to Fri tweet session at half seven. Hope this makes sense as using one of those tablets.Last edited: 2014-06-26 20:21:43 by Lesley (ID84584)

Sadly, Bran is proving to be VERY dog aggressive and Birmingham Council have 100's like him pass through their pounds every year. Some are not aggressive but some (like Bran), are extreme in their behaviour and there is no time or money to help them rehabilitate. Whilst very upset about his probable fate, we don't have to deal with the problem day in and day out and Bran has only become news worthy because of the publicity when he was found. If there is any good to come out of all this, let it be the raised profile of dogs that are day in and day out killed because of humans that use them for their own sick pleasure and "sport".
Happiness yorkie lover xxx
That's pathetic this boy is in need of public outcry once and for all people have had enough of this pain and suffering on our animals POLICE AND GOVERMENT NEED TO TAKE A STANCE AGAING THESE CRIMINALS AND SEND DOWN A MESSAGE THAT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH X SAVE THIS BOY AND THE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS THATS HAPPENING TO ON A DAILY BASIS FOR THE SAKE OF MONEY GET A JOB LIKE THE REST OF US AND LEAVE THE DOGS ALONE ,,,,,,.

Update from DDA watch
"Cheryl Jackson Update - I called and managed to get put through to Vicky Alwood ( thanks Carol Soundz ) who is a senior Animal Welfare officer and very familiar with this case - she had a note to call me so I guess this was the Dog Warden call I was promised … they are aware of the wide interest in this case and they are not able to share much information due to 'other on going issues ' led me to believe this was some form of investigation - the dog had just been fighting when it was picked up - his wounds were that raw - he has had treatment and being well cared for - he is still alive but she did not know if the BSL check had been conducted or not yet. I mentioned offers of funds for his care and foster and rehome offers - I asked if he had shown any reaction when in the kennels and she said she was not aware of any . I came off the call crying with frustration as throughout the conversation ( and I have a lot of respect for this lady and the job she has to do ) it was clear that the outcome for this dog is very bleak - his fate may have already been decided and it may be how they manage the public reaction that is the route to the information they are prepared to share. I don't think this boy will get his chance - devastated and feel utterly powerless !"

Thank you for updating us Bo, much appreciated
Bo
Update from DDA watch
'update - RSPCA just called me back the man who actually collected the dog from the park in Birmingham - to his knowledge the dog is still with the local dog warden - awaiting someone to verify his breed type . He was actually collected on Monday 16th so his 7 days in the pound are up today . Due to the injuries and swelling they have not been able to confirm all needed measurements to assess his breed type so this will be done when the swelling has gone down . I have asked the Dog warden involved to call me and will post more if and when he does .

Signed and shared. We have to help this poor boy. I know they go by set of measurements but he really doesn't look like a pit bull. Has he actually been confirmed as such or are we just getting prepared in case?
Kit'sMum
Signed. I woke up thinking about this dog. Down with BSL! He was found tied to railings and shaking with fear. Does this really sound like a dangerous dog? I think he was probably used for baiting and deserves a real chance at a good life, maybe needing some rehabilitation if he has issues with other dogs. I hope people are fair to him and allow him a good and loving forever home, and that they are treating him well meanwhile, treating his wounds and giving him as much love as he can accept right now. I thank everybody for reacting so quickly to save this dog. Could anyone tell me the best site or page to go to to get regular information on progress in this case?

Signatures at 2300 now - only 11 shares and 80 tweets? Come on peeps, if they get to 3000 signatures then its looked at. Do I think he's type? Yes. Do I think we can save him with enough effort? Yesterday I would have said no but you know what, I think we can. Please just take time out to sign for him. Young dog, awful life so far. Southern Ireland don't ban Pitbulls.
Do please give him a chance. Behaviour should be judged by the dogs temperament - not the breed. :(
Happiness yorkie lover xxx
COME ON DO THE RIGHT THING AND SAVE THIS POOR BOY XXX
beautygirlcassie
I have signed and shared the petition on FB and Twitter. This dog is more likely to be a bait dog rather than a fighting dog. They wouldn't have left a fighting dog tied to the railings with a collar on. They would have just killed it and dumped the body somewhere. Please God it is not found to be "type". Can we put pressure on Birmingham City Council to become the dog's registered owner if that is what it takes to save his life?
Bo
Captain - From DDA (Dangerous Dog Act) watch website;

Defra have confirmed to us in writing, that a Local Authority can become the registered owner of an exempted dog via court order, it is possible, it is also possible that a suitable home with a responsible owner could be found via a transfer of keepership.
So if Birmingham council become the legal owner of this dog (if classed as "type"), they could by law (according to DEFRA) rehome him to someone who will comply with all of the regulations pertaining to banned breeds.

Captain
A petition has been started to help save this dog. PLEASE sign and share: http://goo.gl/1HnRG3
He has suffered enough through no fault of his own. He deserves the chance of love and care and a happy life.

Spoke to RSPCA about this poor guy. They are calling me back with details of where he is.
Shelagh
Is this dog being treated for injuries or just left in kennels. I doubt he is a bait dog or used for dog fighting as the people involved in that would not be so considerate as to tie him to railings. Also he wearing collar. Should imagine this pet dog ,fighting or being fought by their other dog.

Hope this poor dog recovers. My first thought was that he was involved in dog fighting in some way by the lowest life scumbags. Hope he recovers, and there will be a happy ending here. People like this should be locked up for a very long time. The rspca in the midlands normally have a good result in dog fighting circles. It`s usually the courts that hand out soft sentences to these scumbags. Get well soon sweetheart (((HUGS)))

I agree - it's NOT a Pit Bull. I am constantly appalled at the way some dogs are treated. This is barbaric. I've just read the article on Facebook and seen the photos - what kind of human being gets a kick out of dog fighting?
