Scruffpot
Black cocker with docked tail just listed found in Louth. Say no chip, but as we all know chips can be missed. Worth the owners checking out the photo. http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog_blog.php?dogId=39385

Heard back from Linda, unfortunatly there has been no sign of Bonnee at all. Please do keep on the look out for Bonnee all you fab helpers out there and if some posters in the suspected area could be refreshed thats worth doing. You never know after this time someone else, unsuspecting, may have Bonnee. Take care Linda. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Our condolences in losing your mother-in-law. It is a most difficult time for you but please don't give up looking for Bonnee as even unchipped dogs have turned up after quite a long time. Someone, somewhere has got her and as it was an opportunistic theft the odds are that she will have been sold on to some unsuspecting person fairly quickly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Linda, I'm off to Isle of Wight again and didn't think I would be saying this a year later, but I will poster where I can and keep an eye out. You are right, stranger things have happened than a dog turning up a long time later. Ring if you want to chat at all. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Hope this weekend brings you the breakthrough you've been waiting for in your search for Bonnee. Admin - any chance of bringing Bonnee's details to the front page as you sometimes do for other dogs? Could really do with refreshing the memories of local helpers on this one!!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry to hear your news Barney and Ozzie's mum, must have been a very difficult time for you. Thank you so much for finding the time to think about us and Bonnee. My husband is going down to the boat show at Southampton on Saturday so i agree, it's a good idea to put some posters up. I read the other week about a dog who had been reunited withhis owner after EIGHT years! Thing is though, he had been chipped and Bonnee hadn't. Hindsight of course is a wonderful thing but obviously we were too trusting and/or naive. Holidaying in Scotland was very difficult this year, the shores of Loch Lomond were one of her favourite places. We lost my mother in law 2 weeks before we went so that didn't help either. Still, onwards and upwards. Thanks for your continuing suppport. LindaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Linda. Just to let you know I haven't forgotten Bonnee. Not been able to do much recently as my husband had a motorbike accident (broke his back, jaw, ribs - but is on the mend now!) Just wondered if it would be worth re-postering in and around Southampton/Portsmouth areas if not already done. The man who took Bonnee might think enough time has passed for him to be able to venture back in to the area, especially if that's where his ex lives. Thinking of you all xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Barney & Ozzie's mum. We have still got hope and think and dream of Bonnee every day but we also have to be realistic. We still actively search whenever we are in the area of course and i look at the site to see how many are found eventually. Never say die! LindaxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Linda. Although I haven't left any messages for a while, I am still checking for news of Bonnee all the time. I can only guess at how you and your family must be feeling, but I'll continue to rack my brains and find different avenues to try in the search for her xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi Sue, The dog warden at Southampton said she would send over details of Bonnee to the Isle of Wight as they obviously have close contact over there. A friend of mine went to a local market last week and bought a dog for ?20 from a gypsy. I said to him that surely the dog must have been stolen but he thought it better for him to buy it than it just go to anybody. He checked when he got home and there was no reported missing dog of that description. It just makes me think though, it is so easy for people to do that. I believe that Bonnee was probably not with that man for long because nobody in the surrounding area saw a man with a dog like Bonnee so I feel he got rid of her pretty quick. I can only hope that she is with somebody who is caring for her. I really appreciate everything that you and others, especially Barney and Ozzies mum, have done but I feel we have just go tto accept we are not going to see her again. Still checkin gin Linda, sorry no news either. Not for want of trying Barney's & Ozzie's mum . There is just no knowing where this guy has gone aside from the info already given. He mayhave given up his roots in Portsmouth, for Southampton, but now gone elsewhere. I think he probably likes the coastal spots for that reason and could therefore be along any of the south coast areas. Linda have you considered the Isle of Wight. Don't know if he could have slipped over there! Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Linda - I'm afraid my husband didn't see any sign of Bonnee or the homeless man either, but please don't give up hope. I'll certainly keep trying everything I can think of - you never know, he might go in to one of the day centres if not now, then when the bad weather comes. I will definetely keep pestering them to keep a look out. I take it no more has come of the sightings of the black dog with the homeless people in Portswood? With the holiday season coming up though there will be a lot more people out and about, so if helpers in the local area could just keep putting posters up and replacing one that have been removed, I'm sure we'll find her eventually.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much for all your help, especially to Barney & Ozzies mum. My husband was in the area last night and has had a look round too. I just have a feeling either the man and/or Bonnee are now long gone. I just wish I could know she is okay. People in this area have seen the report in the local newspaper and been very supportive too. Every avenue seems to have been looked at. PC Naile has not got back to me despite several messages and requests for her to ring me. Perhaps she has been relocated, I don't know.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've spoken to someone called Steve at the Day Centre, but he hasn't had any homeless people in with dogs. He's taken all the details though and will keep his eyes open. He's also given me the number of another Day Centre in Southampton but said there won't be anyone there until tomorrow morning. I'll try to give them a call from work. Linda - don't know if you've already done this, but I've rung the Post Office and Woolworths in Portswood. Woollies not particularly helpful, but a lady at the Post Office (02380 557712) said that she hadn't actually seen the homeless people herself, but was told that the police had moved them on as the were relieving themselves (to put it politely!!) against the wall. Are the local police still aware that Bonnee is missing? I just hope they haven't missed a golden opportunity here !! Might be worth reminding them incase WPC Naile has been transferred or something. (If you are unable to do it at the moment I don't mind ringing them for you if you let me have the phone no, crime no, etc). I spoke to a very helpful man at English Churches who has taken all the details and said he will keep his eyes open as he lives in Portswood. He also gave me some useful phone numbers to try for organisations connected with the homeless - will ring them tomorrow as too late now. Apparently there is a Day Centre where the homeless can go for food, to shelter from the weather, etc and he believes they can take dogs in with them as there is a garden there. I will make this one a priority tomorrow. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to to do as you're tied up with your family committments at the moment. Thanks to all The lady did contact me and i passed on the man's phone number to her. I hope this is of some help to her. The dog wardens in Oxford and Vale of the White Horse were very nice and helpful so even if it wasn't Bonnee hopefully they can be of use to another owner. I also had a call from a lady on Portswood which is an area in Southampton. She reported seeing homeless people on some steps near the Post Office and Woolworths who had a black dog with them. Because of family commitments we won't be able to get down for a couple of weeks but if anyone is in that area and is able to check it out i would be very grateful. Touch FM which is our local Banbury radio station also got in touch and they will cover the story. I will try that link for Southamton echo, thank you. LindaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I really hope something comes of the newspaper articles. Wouldn't it be marvellous though if the dog sighted was Bonnee and she made her own way home! I'm keeping everything crossed for you Linda and would like nothing more than to see you reunited with Bonnee. As I said, I'm afraid I am too far away to be of practical help (Buckinghamshire) but if you need any help with emailing or anything else please just ask. In the meantime I'll keep emailing posters to anyone I can think of. Alison (Barney's and Ozzie's mum)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much to you all, especially Barney & Ozzies mum. I asked in local shops in Southamton and Portsmouth to put up posters and a few were sympathetic and said they would but only a few I'm afraid. I was contacted by the Southampton daily Echo last week to do an article about Bonnee. Melanie, the reporter, got all the details (including information about the doglost website, and I emailed some photos down. I was then contacted by The Oxford Mail and the Banbury Cake which are associated with the Echo. The Cake took some photos of me and my son to publish alongside a photo of Bonnee and the article. I don't know if it has been published in the Echo yet but it has definately been in the Oxford Mail. The Banbury Cake is a weekly free paper so I expect it to be in the end of this week. I was contacted yesterday by a man who lives in Kennington which is just south of Oxford. He reported that he had seen a cocker spaniel walking on it's own early one morning last week. He saw it agin in the late morning walking towards the Oxford ring road. Because it is unusual to see a dog out on it's own these days and because of the article he rang me to let me know what he had seen. We have been to the area and spoke to the man concerned and he pinpointed exactly where he had seen the dog. Obviously this is a very long shot but it's not unheard of for dogs to find their way home and Bonnee had travelled up and down the A34 south many times. I have spoke to the police in Oxford and Banbury so they are aware of what is happening and just in case somebody reports it or brings a dog in. When they are open tomorrow I will ring the dog warden service in Oxford and inform them. I have also emailed the local radio, Fox FM and Radio Oxford to ask if they can appeal to their listeners to keep a look out. Everything is crossed and i am just hoping it is not another dead end. We just want to know where she is and if she is okay. LindaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't know what's happened to the message I left here last week, but just to say that I've emailed posters to the following: PDSA, Salvation Army, Portsmouth library, RSPCA (Solent branch), Friends of the Homeless (PO16), Havant Council, Portsmouth Council, First Traveller bus service, Southampton and Portsmouth Tourist Info Centres. Don't know if they've already been done, but won't hurt to remind people that Bonnee is still missing. If this man is living rough he must be getting food/drink from somewhere. Have any local helpers asked local newsagents, off licences if they'd put a poster up in shop window? Maybe he is entitled to benefits, so how about local Post Offices? Another thought is that he might be an ex-service man. I see there are quite a few ex-services clubs in Portsmouth. Perhaps these could do with a poster (I can't find email addresses for them, only phone numbers). One last thought - if he's still in the area perhaps he's hanging around train or bus station begging with Bonnee? Too far away to be of practical help, but just want to let Linda know that we're still trying to find Bonnee for her and the family. You'll probably think I'm totally mad when I tell you I have her picture on my computer as a screen saver - just to remind me to try and spend a little time each day in the search xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still nothing on her, unbelievable this person who is known locally has disappeared without a trace along with poor Bonnee. Keep your chin up, I know it must be so hard for you. Keep on at the police too, it will remain fresh in their minds if you do - too bad if they get fed up with it. Also all the dog wardens, who I know will still be looking for you, but are more likely to come across her if she has remained with thte bloke who took her. Widen the area of councils you contact too, in case he's travelled along the south coast - you never know. All the best, Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have no news but I did see in the Daily mirror about an owner of a stolen dog who got her dog back with the help of a medium/psychic. I know it's a long shot but I have contacted a local guy who was very helpful and sympathetic. He has asked for a photo of Bonnee so he can concentrate on it and also take it to a local group meeting to see if he can give us any information. He is not asking for payment but did say it would be after Christmas before we heard anything. I will let you know what he says. Have a happy Christmas. Thank you for your continued support. Yes Sue you are absolutely right, if they had contacted all these leads earlier would things might have been different. I still can't seem to get an answer about if the article has been in the Southamton Echo or the Adveriser, Sian doesn't answer her emails and the police haven't told me if they have managed to contact her yet - another waiting game I suppose. Things have progressed a little then if you are now getting two way feedback from them. I had a really nice and long telephone call from WPC Naile of Southampton police last night. She has been assigned to the case and seems to have done lots of thungs that may help locate Bonnee. She has downloaded the poster from this site and is circulating it to everybody she can think of as well as actively searching and speaking to the homeless people herself. She has looked through the CCTV records and can only find a brief one of me standing outside the VIrgin store with Bonnee. I think it was the witness description that gave the police in the station at ht etime of reporting the incident the knowledge of who the man was so I don't think that will be of any help. She is going to see if any of the neighbouring stores have any footage. She is also going to speak to Sian at the Echo to see if the article has been published because she hasn't replied back to me to say if it has or not yet. If it hasn't she will push to see if it can be published as soon as possible. I heard of a cat that had turned up after over 2 ears last night so we are definitely not giving up hope and I would like to ask all your helpers not to either. Thanks for all your encouragement so far. Linda - Bonnee's ownerLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I hope that doesnt mean they forgot to get one from the recording! We have more manpower than the police to circulate the picture if it was available. Can only hope she is spotted by one of the posters that are up and recognised. So sorry no more news yet and hope th eEcho pull their fingers out. Will keep checking their web page. No real news Sue. I wrote to Southamton police who then rang me to say that they had no further news but were still looking out for the man. They feel that one homeless person is much the same as lots of others and because they obviously move on at any time they may not see him again for weeks, months or even never. They can't seem to find a still of the man but say they are still looking but think it may not be very clear or helpful. I haven't heard again from Sian at the Southampton Echo which seemed to be something very positive but she hasn't got back to me to say if the article has definitely been published. At the moment we have not got a lot of hope or optimism I'm afraid. I think your wonderful helpers may perhaps be the only hope we have.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I hoped so much she would be back by now. Every dog I saw on the Isle of Wight I was scanning to see if it was one of ours. I did see a similar to Bonnee, but she was obviously doting on her owners. Linda, did you get a chance to go around the many superstore areas. Unfortunately time ran out for me so didn't get as many posters up as hoped. I also wondered if you'd get more response if you wrote to the police with your requests for photographic evidence of the guy. They surely would have to respond then. This is Bonnee's owner. We have been overwhelmed by the help and support of your website and would like to thank everyone who is helping in our search. Things are getting harder as time goes by but we are hanging on to the hope she is well looked after somewhere. Certainly the 'homeless' person seems to have totally dissapeared. Thanks once againLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poor Bonnee... I hope she is found very soon. I have put up posters around Fareham (near Portsmouth) and will be going into Portsmouth tomorrow so will pop posters up there too. Am keeping my fingers crossed this little girl is found very soon. Helen xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Trying to get information regarding CCTV footage. If owner looks in, can she get in touch with police and push along possibilty of still photos from the cameras. I have been limited on what I can do, because of data protection. Also I have emailed the Southern Daily Echo with the story, there details are Newsdesk: Tel: 023 80 424522. Hopefully they will contact you. This guy is the key and we need to find him sooner rather than later, cos Bonnee needs to go home to Oxfordshire. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have faxed with a covering letter to Bournemouth offices, they cover south coast. They have distribution centres in S'Hampton and Portsmouth. Am currently working on Shelter offices and will do those too. We really need a few locals to have a wander around if possible. Could be anywhere between S'Hampton and Portsmouth guys. We must have helpers in the main areas who have lunch hours etc? Ta everyone. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sue - if there is a chance he's rough sleeper then see if there are any Big Issue offices in the area. Their sellers know all the guys out on the streets and are often dog lovers and help us regularly, either with putting the word out, or offering posters with a copy of the mag. Worth remembering these guys are often broke so slipping them a few quid for their assistance is often worth doing. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bonnee's owner, regarding our conversation, it may pay you to request a still of the vision. You may want to consider using the local newspapers to circulate the information. Some are most helpful, but some may ask for payment. You will reach a wider audience using this method. I will do as I said. All the best, Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Winchester petsearch, all hands on deck much appreciated, it must be so hard to be away from the area your pet was stolen. Bad enough if you are nearby and can do loads. Thoughts are with the owners and wishing a speedy recovery of Bonnee as always. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately the cocker found wasn't Bonnee. Just a very rare coincidence that two black of a similar age were found / lost in the south. What hasn't been mentioned is that owner does not live in Southampton, they were on holiday. Owner lives in Oxfordshire and so limited time is available for postering the area. Helpers we need any time at all, even if just a lunch time 10 minutes to put some posters up. Even if its only one or two it may just be the one that finds her. Thanks everyone, Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
