UPDATE FROM FB

This is the story of my dog Sophie who disappeared on August 1st 2003. By sheer fluke I posted on my own page last year regarding Sophie and a friend shared the post. It was spotted by someone on her friends list who came forward to say she was the person who adopted Sophie in 2006. Sadly Sophie had died two years previous to this so I never did get to see my dog again. I did though receive a couple of photos of her in later life.Last edited: 2018-02-15 15:13:54 by VetsGetScanning

What an upsetting story, I can't believe Dogs Trust & the microchip company have been so irresponsible and denied you all those years with your gorgeous girl. Hope you have happy news when you meet with them xx

OH gosh...remember going round putting posters up with eilene over 8 years ago...cannot believe again the chip has not ensured her safe return....

I have learnt today that Sophie was handed in to Dogs Trust by a man who had had her for 3 years. She was scanned but the chip not followed up on. She was rehomed and a change of ownership form sent off to AVID who failed to either query it with Dogs Trust or notify me. I have asked for further information on Sophie and if they can facilitate a meeting for me with her that is of course if she is still alive. I have also asked for more information on the person who handed her in. DT will get back to me on Monday. I am just devastated.

Just wanted to add that I foolishly believd that once Sophie was logged as missing on her microchip database I would be notified. This did not happen so I would advise anyone with a missing dog to ring their database holder again and again. I didn't and I will have to live with that mistake.
Friends of the Animals
I am writing this with huge mixed feelings. I contacted AVID who are the database with Sophie's details to discover that Sophie had been rehomed in 2006 without my knowledge. Sophie was found and rehomed and I am overjoyed that this was by a very reputable dog rescue but devastated that I was denied the joy of being reunited with my girl. Thank you DogLost so much for putting me in touch with Debbie Matthews of Vets Get Scanning who has also been a great help. You can read the details of what has happened here. http://vetsgetscanning.co.uk/microchipped-yorkshire-terrier-sophie-was-rehomed-and-owner-denied-reunification-6-years-ago/ No news yet, the Operations Director from Dogs Trust rang me yesterday but it was after 5pm and my phone was switched off as I was driving. Message left to say he would call me back today. Am in bits to be honest and just want to know if Sophie is alive and if I can meet her.

What a wonderful thing to do! I hope she comes safe home to you on her chip, when this compulsory chipping comes in

Last year, on Sophie's anniversary, we launched RCT Lost and Found which is a free service to people in our area and again this was in memory of Sophie. We have a website, a facebook page and a 24 hour help line and points boththose who have found and those who have lost a pet to sites like this. Sophie was a very special little dog and it is just heartbreaking to know that so many others go through the same pain.

Thanks Sue. Sophie would be about 12now which is still young for a Yorkie. She was chipped but not I very much regret spayed. I had no idea in those days that places like puppyfarms existed and that my girl was valuable as an unneutered dog. She went missing from Ynyshir which is in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales. I am sure eveyone ssays that not knowing is the worst part and that is so true. When compulsory microchipping comes in then maybe I will get to hear something. Thanks so much for all your good work.

How old would Sophie be now? And where did she go missing from as her details following the site hack say the North East but with a Wales postcode. Is it correct that she's microchipped?

What a lovely thing to do, to start an organisation in her memory. I hope even after all these years that you find her and she can come back home to you XX

My dear little dog Sophie is still missing. Although lots of years have passed I still hope that one day I will learn of her whereabouts. When I hear about dogs that have been found after a number of years it gives me a real boost. I pray she is happy and loved. I founded Friends of the Animals RCT in her memory so many hundreds of dogs have gone on to a wonderful life because of her.

Sophie's owners have been in contact today - she is still missing and they still check - have bumped the page so that they can correct info that was corrupted in the 2008 hack on the website
