What a lovely photo, I'm still so amazed he's safe and well.
As Hazel Richards remarked, the floods will have affected many many vulnerable creatures. Let's hope for more happy endings. :o)

Yes this lovely chap has been found safe and well and is back in his pond with Steve and friends. He needs to go into the blue.It's lovley to have a happy ending! :)

Reading again his details, I notice it says he's of "small" build, yet he weighs 25lbs!!, = about twelve bags of sugar..that's a lot of fish for a small one...so, how long is he then? (roughly).

Oh! What a shame. I did wonder what happened to fish ponds during the floods, and now I know. Somebody surely must spot such a huge fish.I think that you will have to put out posters in the area just like you would a dog and offering a reward. I do hope that this lovely fellow turns up. Will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Thought I would add this fish as possibility Chad has made himself at home somewhere. Here is the full story;

Steve is not a worldly sturgeon. While some of his peers have migrated thousands of miles from river to sea and back again, all Steve had ever known until four weeks ago was a pond outside Romsey World of Water in Hampshire.
When the River Test burst its banks and three feet of stormwater covered his pond, he seized his moment. Along with a chagoi koi carp called Chadwick, the seven-year-old sturgeon made a break for the freedom of the Solent ten miles away, and the vast ocean that lay beyond.
Summoning the Siberia-spanning determination of his ancestors, Steve got as far as the car park. He then made his way across the inundated A3057 and down to an Esso garage a mile away. The metre-long fish has since been returned to his pond.
Mark Bradbury, general manager at the aquatic centre, said that his relief at finding Steve sulking at the bottom of a deep puddle in the car wash was tempered by the absence of his partner in crime. Chadwick, thought to be 15 years old and about 25 pounds in weight, remains at large with a £2,500 bounty on his head.
“He was last spotted two weeks ago,” Mr Bradbury said. “We received a phone call from a local resident to say he had two fish that were swimming around in what used to be his back garden, and one of them was a very friendly fellow who kept coming round for his breakfast every morning. That would be Chad — he was used to being fed by hand and the visitors loved him.”
Since then, aside from a probable sighting on a nearby industrial estate, Chadwick has been on the run. “Chagois aren’t river fish,” Mr Bradbury said. “They prefer to be in deep water. Some of the fields around here are still flooded, so there’s hope.”
