Thank you everyone for all your help, unfortunately Trigger was found dead yesterday, he had managed to get himself stuck in sheep netting and couldn't free himself. The area was remote and no one saw him until yesterday. Sad news, we are all heartbroken but at least we have closure now even if it isn't the kind we wanted.

This is probably a long shot but was looking on a website for another missing dog and noticed an English Springer Spaniel with similar markings at http://www.westendfarmkennels.co.uk/rehoming/listings West End Farm Kennels - says date found 26/8/14 but no other info. If you look on the page is down near the bottom. I think though that the black markings on the legs are much more pronounced but is hard to tell from a photo. Thought I better post anyway. Update: Just saw that he, the dog at West End Kennels, has been added to the Found Section of Doglost Dog ID 65256 so you maybe have already checked. Sorry but will leave this up here just in case.
