That's a lovely post Jo, what we need is a section where "That's how we did it" posts can be stored and viewed. So glad Huxley made it home to safety.

Hi - I've been asked to post how he was caught in case it helps others to catch flighty dogs who are loose. I went out with the owners and Huxley's brother, lay on the floor in fields by river bank which my back half turned to where he was, waited for him to come closer before throwing chicken legs for him to grab and run off with getting him nearer and nearer until eventually he was having sardines out of my hand, then sausages and then gradually managed to gain his trust enough to put a couple of slip leads on before taking things very very slowly a few steps at a time back to car being very careful not to make eye contact with him at any time as he could have seen this as a predatory stare or a challenge. Just want to add whats very lucky boy Huxley and brother Cosmo are to have found such an awesome forever home who are prepared to work with them and build their confidence. Mary and Thomas are 2 people who really restore your faith in mankind x

So pleased to see this boy safe, thank you for the text Reynard and it was lovely to speak to the owner although I have not been actively involved I had been watching from afar. At least this has saved the long journey to collect the trap!!!

Yes, Huxley is HOME! I have just spoken with the owner who is over the moon. Owner will check in later with the story... have your tissues ready!
Lilybear
Big thanks to PCSO MacLachlan, Kate and the team at BOA who have been helping with the search for Huxley, responded to some reports on 03/11, printed posters for their surgery. They have just text me to say that they have seen Huxley has been found, keen to know the details so are following his blog! Brilliant.... more doglost helpers:)
Sallie
Well done to Jo for helping to catch Huxley. He's now home safe and sound. It's amazing what a few Chicken legs, Sardines and Sausages can do when a dog is hungry :-)
Lilybear
Yes, I too have had text from owner 'We have him'! Can't wait to hear the details. On my way back from BOA have found a dog!
DogLostReynard
Have heard he has been caught, details from owner to follow I expect :)

I've everything crossed here and keep checking in. Hubby has my car during the day so a bit stuck and not able to come over, although it sounds like plenty of people there. Good luck, hope he's ready to give up his adventure today xx
Lilybear
No sightings as yet today, owner is meeting up with some other helpers this morning so fingers crossed.
Lilybear
Thanks poochpal, am contacting owners.

I have a large trap but it needs to be collected from Dorset. The other one for south West is in Gloucestershire.
Lilybear
Great stuff, still trying to source a large dog trap, owners can collect. thank you.
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
Might be worth leaving details with old manor hotel, the day nursery, beef and barge and I think there's wessex water on the other side of that road. My neighbours in laws live on cockhill, I will ask if they can pass on info too, more sightings the better :-)
Lilybear
Thanks MillieVW, owners looking to confirm, I'm asking friends, could well be as you say. Praying Huxley keeps away from those busy roads.
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
I wonder if it's the road from the beehive Bridge up to cockhill in Trowbridge, that would fit with Natalie's sighting at 8:45. I saw a group of men stood on that road looking when I went to sainsbury's at about 6:15, they were stood outside widbrook Grange. It's unusual for anyone to be standing there, I wonder if they'd seen him too?
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
I've never heard of it and nothing on Google, guessing it's a local name. Can you get any more info?
Lilybear
Met owners this evening, they thank everyone for your support, very much appreciated. Owner had a sighting of her boy late afternoon by the canal. Huxley approached a feed station cooked up but was scared off by some noisy children passing by on opposite side of canal. They are getting back out there with bbqs. Huxley looking very skinny. Local community very supportive, keeping things low key so as to keep Huxley in area. Owners still looking to source a large trap. There was also a reported sighting this evening at Snakey Hill, BOA.. anyone know it?
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
Drove over as soon as I saw he'd just been spotted but could find no sign. Cockhill would make him in a nice little triangle. Fingers crossed for further sightings xxx
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
Went to sainsburys this evening and had a good look round on the way there and back, didn't call his name just looked around but no sign. Hope he's tucked up somewhere warm and dry and doesn't move on xx
Natalie Gowen
Have just seen a GSD dog on Westwood Road, off top of cockhill. Past all of houses and ran into field on right. Hope he is found safe and sound. This was about 845pm.Last edited: 2013-12-04 21:08:09 by Natalie Gowen

Huxley sighted within the past 30 mins close to Southview Farm, Trowbridge Road. Farmer stood and used dog whistle Huxley stopped and turned back towards direction of stables. Owner informed.
Lilybear
Owner is camped close to the Kennet & Avon Canal with permission of local farmer. With information received the search area would appear to be in the area of Widbrook, south of Bradford on Avon – the land south of the canal – bordered by the Frome Road B3109 (& Sainsbury’s) to the left, the Trowbridge Road, B363 to the right and Westwood Road below. The canal community have been very helpful reporting several sightings of Huxley. They are moored on opposite side of canal so have not followed Huxley not wanting to chase him out of area. A nearby stables report seeing Huxley yesterday and again this morning at 8am, he was playing with their dogs. Huxley comes from a farm background where he was allowed his freedom in a farm/stable environment around other dogs and horses so we are hoping he has found a place he feels comfortable and will stay close. The stables have all contact details, will no doubt help with feed stations and will work carefully to help reunite.

Thank you Jayne

Just rang owner. Saw him in field belonging to Southview Riding School opposite BeeHive Bridge (11.10 approx). I would have stopped but I was on my bike enroute to dentist.

Bumped. Alerts were sent to BA15.
Lilybear
Fpr info, nearest landmark of last sighting - BA15 2AZ (Sainsburys), it appears from the link the local canal community are supporting owner.
Lilybear
I can not be in area until this evening. Owner has Huxley's brother with her, will sit quietly and observe so as to try to keep him in a safe place so as to slowly work with him.
Lilybear
** further sighting of Huxley back at the canal ** owners returning now, someone there has visual on him. He appears to be heading back to Sainsburys direction, Bradford on Avon.

Lilybear
Have just spoken with owner who has been out searching at canal. Have given most recent sighting of nervous young GSD seen running along Westwood Road towards Westwood BA15 - came via Police, Log 62. Owner has recvd news of positive sighting also on Sunday 01/12 at Rudge, close to home. When able owner will plot on a map all sightings to date to look to establish Huxley's movements.

Does anyone know of someone missing an alsation? a young looking one has turned up on the opposite bank of canal where we are moored..moulton drive nr treenwood industrial estate. i contacted Richard Fry the owner of widbrook riding stables n we went to look for it...it has no collar n was wary of us n wouldnt let us close, it doesnt appear aggressive though n its bark is not deep like others ive encountered...we left some food for it n i will check on it in the morning...cheers fer llookin..
It seems to be Huxley from his description. Pray he's found & reunited with his family.
DogLostMillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire
Sainsburys is right on the canal towpath too and very easy to get down and head towards trowbridge/Hilperton/Staverton and even further along to Semington, potential to head the other way to Avon cliff but would have to cross a road. I was at Sainsburys on sat and didn't see any sign and then again Monday quite close to the towpath but nothing.

Lilybear has alerted me to this one - will ask the Basingstoke gang if they know the exact details how he was caught last time as he was caught fairly quickly.
Will also let Laura the DW in Basinstoke know as she had gone out looking for this one.
Very disspointing to hear about this dog missing and being moved on again.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Can someone inform Big Gsd site tx...they are so good....
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Is he a rescue dog? If so you need to let the rescue know. GSD are notorious for trying to get back where they came from, so it is great that there are local sightings. If these sighting s stop before he is caught, then concentrate search towards Basingstoke. Please, if looking for him, try not to spook him, but leave a feed station and consider a protable bbq to tempt him with sausages and take along the other GSD too. Good luck, sorry I cannot physically help. I will watch this page in case he starts travelling though, as that could bring him towards me.
Lisa Bealing
It's interesting that there has been more than one sighting of him at Bradford Sainsbury's, I really hope it's him and that someone manages to catch him.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Will copy into Poochpal....
Lilybear
Brilliant, thanks Lisa. I am just exploring getting hold of a trap big enough for owners to work with just in case any helpers know of one?
Lisa Bealing
I went to Sainsbury's in Bradford on Avon this morning and there was a dog barking in the undergrowth on the embankment next to the store. I went to have a look and it was definitely a German Shepherd and very nervous. It was still there when I came out and a man climbed up to see if he could catch it but it ran off. The store backs onto fields and there was no sign of him as I drove back towards wing field. There was a community police man stopped in a gateway looking into the fields, I think the couple at Sainsbury's had called them.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
ah Yes he has been on Doglost before....

Thank you Jayne, owners have taken a drive all around area, no joy just now. There have been sightings of Huxley on land close to home last Weds 27/11 & Sat 30/11. Word is spreading locally, dog warden aware, owners will inform Police. Huxley is a young farm dog, he slipped his collar and lead. He had gone missing in his previous home nr Basingstoke, lots helped with the search, he was eventually captured in an Ind Est, a man able to grab his then collar and harness. Owners continue with all the scenting advice, will cook up some lovely smells. They have spoken with RSPCA to seek advice re a trap but they are unable to help.

Update headed off towards T and A Auto.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Possible sighting at Sainsbury...just letting owner know...ITS IN PADDOCKS behind Sainsbury in Bradford on Avon.
Lilybear
I have spoken with owners and have a brief update. They live in a rural area off of Brokerswood Road, no busy roads or railway close by. Huxley has been seen close to home in recent days in neighbouring field by a stream, he looked fit and well. It seems he wants to come home but is nervous. Owners have set up feeding stations and have been scenting area with their other GSD. Huxley arrived with his brother from Southampton so they are walking him on all their searches at all times day & night. I have emailed Sammie’s advice sheets and will be seeking some advice on this one before contacting owners again this evening.
