A mile away from here, Jayne - we have put more posters up but what else can we do unless we see her ourselves? If it IS Ella then obviously this woman (no details on her) must have seen the posters but does not want to give her back. I have to go to work so can't camp out there to watch, so short of hiring a private detective I've run out of ideasLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Zag, keep the posters a reasonable distance from the polls and certainly not within their curtilage. Election law is quite strict and officials and police will be quite likely to remove them. Maybe mount them on board and tie them to an adjacent lamp post.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

spottydoggirl:
I definitely agree with Nik in stressing the problems associated with having a deaf dog (have got 4 myself), the fact that you have trained her to obey special signals and that she needs special supervision, and in the hands of a new "owner" she could actually be at risk of serious injury e.g if she were off-lead and not hear a car approaching at speed. The aim is to make people think "Oooh, I hadn't thought of that...better hand her over...can't be doing with all that hassle..." I am convinced she is with someone, dals are "people" dogs and would latch on to the first human with food! It's just a matter of time before you get a positive lead. Wish I was near and could help, have got paws tightly crossed for you both though xxx. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Zag, glad you've spoken to the Examiner. They have run stories for us before. In addition to the fact she's deaf, it would be important to stress how much extra care she'll require and how she only responds to your commands. This may be a bit of an exaggeration, but if someone else has her, you want them to give her up because she'll be too much trouble. I'll change the poster.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Was thinking the same about the Huddersfield Examiner, not many dogs go missing in this area, so its not a story covered often. And with her being deaf it makes it more of a story for the paper. And yes upset kids always make for a good story. failing that you could see how much a leaflet drop with the weekly news in your area would be, someone must have seen something. x xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have re-emailed Ella poster as before to the Dog Wardens in the Towns and Cities around Hudersfield as well as Huddersfields Wardens. Also the rescue centres In the Yorkshire and Lancs area.I hope and I pray that she is home soonxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I woke up thinking about Ella and what to do next!!!Sadly she has now been missing for a week. So the possibilities are 1.(sorry to say this)-dead) 2.taken in to someone's house or now being passed between "good homes" 3. living wild 4. taken and now out of area. First thing to do to rule out no. 1 Go to or ring Kirklees Street cleansing depot-think it's Vine or Flint Street -off Bradford Road look in phone book -get them to search records in front of you. Second thing to do to flush out Ella if no. 2 has happened ring the Hudds. Examiner get reporter to do article on her loss to you and your family- if no children beg ,borrow or steal from neighbours to say how much you're missing her. Stress her unique appearance for a Dal. few spots apparently on one side stress how easily she'll be recognised when taken out /to the vet's,stress she's microchipped so can be traced back to you-her owner.THEN offer a decent reward as an incentive to ring your number or take her to a neutral address (they may genuinely just have found her) also in the article. If she has befriended a person/family who is sitting there delighted with their FREE Dalmatian and hasn't engaged their brain, the article may prompt them to realise they can't keep her-she already has a family and would be too easily recognised for them to keep.IF no.3 has happened and she is living wild which from her friendly temperament seems less likely but not impossible, an article in the Examiner would prime people to know about her when she does "surface" and is seen. The only thing I can think of to deal with no. 4 is to inform the Microchip company in case someone tries to change the owner ID on the chip.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Maybe it would also help if we offered a reward?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Zag, don't you think we should have the fact that Ella is deaf on the poster ? I didn't realise initially that she was until you posted on Friday and I think people need to be aware. I can change the poster, but I'd like your permission in case there's a reason the information isn't on there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the info, spotti. Ella is very friendly and likes people. I am really hoping someone is looking after her. Spotti, thanks for asking you those very useful Dalmation-type questions - helpers need to know what to expect should they see her. I'm so glad that poor Dalmation on the M42 found that couple. Freight should be on the railways !!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bradley Hall Kennels are off Leeds Road on the way to Cooper Bridge. On the left before the petrol station , before the canal and river down Lower Quarry Road(I hope that's the name) They are in open country overlooking the Clifton Viaduct (M62). The farm was offered for sale last year so don't know if they still function as kennels. Was helping catch a Dal. yesterday that had escaped out of a car as the windows burst after being rammed from behind by a huge artic. lorry on the M 42. He ran and ran ,fortunately the hard shoulder acted as a corridor, the traffic was only trickling forward on our side.He came to a halt and incredibly kind people put him in their car. With a confident temperament he let himself be handled. Where am I coming from with this - oh yes!!! what sort of temperament has Ella ? - will she have befriended someone and they have taken her in and she will be sitting by their fireside OR will she be apprehensive and although being hungry will be living wild? Will the loss of the sense of hearing affect her behaviour? Whatever has happened do not stop contacting dog warden, kennels for stray dogs (presumably Marina Kennels) local vets because 24 hours could make a lot of difference to knowing where she is. Best of luck-fingers crossedLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Allangel, the vets do not have to 'go' with the person presenting the dog at all. There is a joint statement issued by the RCVS and KC that states if a dog is brought in and it is microchipped to another person and the person with the dog refuses permission to contact registered person then the vet should give all relevant information to Petlog and Petlog will then contact the person the dog is registered to and if the dog is missing/stolen they will ask the registered owner to provide a solicitors/police letter to release the details of who has the dog. It is amazing how many vets do not know about this joint statement. Dolly 6.2.05 (microchipped and still missing - see Dolly's Directive).Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Right I'm on here now, if when you get to the park, please check for skateborders, also the golfing thing, even if you contact the Golf courses and take in posters, perhaps it will shake someones memory, ie going to golf, on way finds dog etc etc. Anyway I have sent you an email, as didn't want to take up posts, do contact all vets, as they are quite stuck between a rock and hard place re the chipping thing, but if they are forwarned that a dog is missing/stolen sometimes they can alert the right people. (Client confidentialitybetween person presenting dog at vets as owners, and the chips info saying someone else is owner the vet has to go with the person bringing in dog)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't know how Norland Park has appeared on the site (as not all discussions are printed) but between HD1 and HD2 is Norman Park in Birkby. Is this of any use? Norland is between Elland and Ripponden probably 4 miles away. It's a n upland moorland and farming area. Not an area where there are urban parks- could be wrong thoughLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have had a lady ring me and say that she saw a dog that is like Ella on either the 21st or 23rd April in Norland Park. She noticed the dog because it had unusual markings for a dalmation. She can't remember which day it was coz she was in the park both those days at tea time. The dalmation was put into a car by a man. She will keep her eyes out in the future.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
