Returned to the Deepdale area of the Yorkshire Dales today, two weeks after our last visit, with renewed hope that we might find this dog still hanging around the area - our feeling being that the vicinity of Deepdale Farm is its base.

Unfortunately, again we were not successful. A contractor who's been working, on and off, beside the road in Deepdale for some weeks said he'd not seen the dog and several hours spent walking around the area drew a blank.

This was our first chance to return to Deepdale and we don't know how soon we'll be able to go back again. We regret so much not bringing this poor dog back with us when we first saw it, despite the perceived impracticalities of our predicament that prevented us from doing so. But how often does hindsight give us a perspective of a problem we only wish we'd at the time?

We'll return to Deepdale again when we can. In the meantime, all we can do is hope that, somewhere along the line, this dog crosses the path of some caring individual who has the necessary degree of compassion to do all they can to help it. I just hope this happens before the winter sets in, as this poor creature is surely suffering enough without having to cope with the added trauma of the kind of unforgiving harsh weather invariably served up in the Yorkshire Dales.

Thank you so much for posting more detailed information Kitchen Foyle.
Really hoping we can ascertain more information about this dog.

As the person who sighted this dog I thought it might be helpful to contribute a little more information.

The sighting was 3.5 miles west of Buckden in Upper Whafedale. By taking the lane which follows the Wharfedale valley - known as Dubb's Lane, which then becomes Stubbing Lane - it eventually runs alongside the River Wharfe until you come to a sharp right over a short, metal bridge which crosses the river. On the far side of this bridge is a farm called Deepdale Farm - and it was in this area that the dog was seen.

The dog was walking towards this farm from west to east, along the path which is part of the Dales Way. My wife and I watched as it then squeezed under the wire fence on top of the dry stone wall beside the path and then crossed over the lane to take a drink from the river. When it saw us approaching, far from running away, it came up to us in the most friendly and endearing fashion and we noticed immediately the neglected state it was in. Its coat was dirty and soiled and with visible fleas - and whilst it wasn't emaciated to such an extent that its ribs were showing, it was clearly underweight. And when we offered it what food and sandwiches we had, the way it devoured them demonstrated just how very hungry it was. But the most concerning aspect of its appearance were its feet and ears, its toes were severely red and raw, as were the insides of both its ears, all of which must have been causing it considerable discomfort and were in urgent need of attention.

If we'd had the facilities to hand and didn't own a cat which is terrified of dogs - and especially if we'd known, as we do now, that a local dog rescue organisation would have accepted it upon our return, we would have attempted to transport it the 50 miles back home with us. I also wish we'd had the presence of mind to take a photograph of it which would clearly be of great benefit here.

Having made enquires and arrangements back home, we returned to the area the following day and spent the better part of four hours searching for it and asking around, but were unsuccessful, although we were told by workmen working on land adjacent to it that they'd seen the dog hanging around Deepdale Farm that morning. However, enquiries at the farm itself were inconclusive. Yet, despite our lack of success and the journey entailing a round trip of 100 miles, we do intend to return again soon in the hope we might see this dog.

And finally, just to add a couple of other points - my wife is confident that the dog is a young female - and it was also wearing a brown leather collar which looked surprisingly old and tattered considering how relatively young the dog appeared to be.

Apologies for this wall of text but I just thought that as much information as possible might get us a little closer to helping this poor dog which is very much in our thoughts.

Could this be 51311 - missing since April? Not beyond the realms of possibility he would cover that ground in the time frame.

Hope he is caught soon. Fingers xd.

This dog, possibly a young collie cross was sighted on Wednesday. The people who sighted the dog report that it looked very thin and had very sore ears and feet and was very hungry. They returned to look for the dog on Thursday and ask around if anyone knew who the dog belonged to.
They checked with neighbouring farms but none seemed to be aware of the dog.
I have telephoned a local farm this morning to see if they have had any more sightings of the dog or have any more information. They seem to think that perhaps the dog belonged to someone who was visiting the area.
Will check with local police and dog warden services for the area.
This is an alert in case anyone is visiting the area and sights the dog again as there is a chance this may be straying dog who has been out for a while.
