Clair
Hi, yes, she is still missing. Over a year now and no useful sightings since January, so am assuming she is either dead or living in luxury with some kind host. Thanks for all the help.
ALW
I keep checking back here but there's not been update for some time. Is Cassie still missing as I'm still looking?
LYDNSYD
Clair - you are doing everything possible to find Cassie. I keep checking in for good news. Don't forget to keep putting Cassie in the parish magazines/newsletters. Also see if your Neighbourhood Watch will send out reminder emails.
Clair
Thanks for your continued support. I have put adverts into Goring Gap News for the next three months, plus have paid Stolen and Stray Pet Recovery to conduct a social media campaign and to re-circulate notices to all of the dog wardens, rescue centres, vets etc in Berkshire and the surrounding counties. I have also refreshed all the posters with up to date information. As we get a lot of day trippers, walkers, etc, round here, I thought that might just produce another sighting. She hasn't been seen for three months now which is the longest since she went missing. I have adopted another RSPCA terrier as my other dog needed company, but I still am hoping to get Cassie back. I am considering using Animal Search UK to do house to house a bit further afield, but I can think of no way to actually search the area given that A. I don't know which direction to go in, and B. it is virtually pointless on my own.
ClaireC
I actually phoned and left message but looking at cassies page it does say she is neutered and found one has had pups!
ClaireC
I will send text message asking to have a look at found girl
LYDNSYD
There has been a Patterdale found in RG26 ref 66985 - it has been out for a while & has mange - might be worth checking it out. It isn't a great piccie but got to be worth a look.
Clair
No nothing. I am desperate.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Have there been any more sightings of Cassie?
Rachnchick
Any news on Cassie? I keep checking hoping for good news x
Clair
No more sightings.
LYDNSYD
Just received a DOGWATCH alert and they mentioned Cassie which is a plus. Clair just a thought - if you get a parish magazine try to get them to do a piece on Cassie and also perhaps the Neighbourhood Watch can also put out reminders. Have you had any more sightings?
Clair
Thanks. I spoke to Jeni tonight. She doesn't think there is any point in Tiga trying again at the moment as we have more or less identified where she probably is. Am going to attempt to confirm over next few days. Good idea about the sand.
LYDNSYD
Why not phone Tiga's owner to see if Tiga is available - she might also be able to give you more advice. There is another tracking dog but I can't remember it's name. If only you could be sure it was Cassie taking the food - have you thought of putting sand around the spot where you leave the food so that you can see if it is a dogs paw print. It could be that Cassie is being seen near the road because she is surviving on road kill but it isn't a good place for her to be. Keep Postering & posting the leaflets. You could also try a mini BBQ & cook some really smelly sausages -if it ever stops raining! Come on Cassie - time to go home!!
Clair
Thank you. I did wonder about Tiga as I think Tiga was leading us to where she is now. I was rather sceptical at the time, but I now believe she knew what she was doing. The area she is being sighted now is only a couple of miles diameter, maybe less. I am not working currently so have started to re-leaflet local houses, am preparing new posters, looking daily when I think she might be out etc. I went around the farmhouse outbuildings but saw no paw prints or what looked like tracks used frequently near the barns. The gardener told me she hadn't seen any dog mess and felt that meant Cassie hasn't been there. I have been putting food down, but she is always seen near to the road and I worry about encouraging her to stay near the road. I also put an old waxed jacket in amongst some bushes, near to a track where she has been seen twice, with food on it. The food went each time - and eventually so did the jacket! I have contacted the lady who owns a dog missing from the Christmas Common area for 2 years as hers could at a pinch fit the same description as that dog who is sometimes seen with Cassie. I can't see any other dogs similar that are missing nearby. I have added it to the found section on here. Once this awful rain has calmed, I will get onto scenting from Streatley to my home.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
Could it be a dog that runs free, possibly a farm dog, from the areas she visits, somebody local to you might know, ie vets pet/farmshop. You can do a search by postcode on the "animalwardens" site but there aren't many pictures on there.
LYDNSYD
Clair This is very positive news but also a bit sad that there is also another dog on the loose. Are the people at the farmhouse willing to set up a feeding station. I know you work during the day but would you be able to look for her at the weekends & do some scenting. Have you been able to get your night camera working again. The barns would be a perfect safe place for her to bed down. If she is with another dog it might make her a little braver in coming out more. Hopefully someone on this site will give you more specialised advice on how to gain her trust as I'm sure she will have gone feral by now. Why not give Shereen a call as she is an experienced & dedicated volunteer and will be able to advise you further she also has a good track record in repatriating lost dogs. I wonder if it would be worth while trying to get Tiga back to track her now that you have definite sightings?? The 1st thing I do when I turn the computer on each morning is to check on here to see if Cassie is in the Reunited section & one day hopefully soon she will.
Clair
Thank you for all your comments and your time and effort. I am sure you are all very worthy and hardworking and as lovely as Shereen. Another update: Cassie was also seen later on 20th (6pm) by a farm worker who went out with a search light to look for her - she seems to be a subject for much discussion at the farm now which is brilliant. He was pretty certain he saw her heading back towards Streatley Farmhouse and thought she might be in the barns there. Today I went round these, but there are no paw prints or obvious signs of an animal there. However, the owner described the other dog Cassie was with. It is very similar to the white "Whippet" reportedly with her before - this time described as like a Dalmation, but without spots - just white. I have searched this website and found no dog fitting that description missing around here. If there is any way the system allows for a search on white dogs in the South East, I would be grateful, as someone must be missing that dog too. Also I don't think I mentioned that there have been two other sightings. One was in November/December in Cleeve Court heading up the lane and then into the field towards Streatley Farmhouse and the other was on Boxing Day during the day which was very sunny in the recreation ground off Cleeve Court and she headed through the fence into Streatley Meadow. So there is a pattern of sorts emerging. Main problem is not being able to see her because I have to look in the dark! I am also a bit confused about whether I am to call her or whether that will scare her away.
Nanna07
I only discovered doglost in August when poor Piper went missing. I check in every day, poster and search locally. Plus check 7 other websites daily to cross check just in case.
I really hope that your precious Cassie is home soon.

Let's hope Cassie is home soon.
I don't always put dogs on my 'Follow' list, as there would be too many, but every day I & many others check the site regularly. I cross check every lost & found dog as best I can, so Clair, be assured there are a lot of us behind the scenes who check too. I don't know how some people are able to do this who have a regular job & a family!! It takes hours of my time :)
NickyB
looks very hopeful for a reunited posting very soon. but clair very disappointed with your comments about shereen.as someone with 25 yrs involved purely out of my love of dogs helping to rehome unwanted dogs, help to pay vet bills for other peoples dogs, spend hours on the phone and out searching for other peoples dogs - as do many hundreds if not thousands of other people,as you can see from doglost pages, you have no idea how much we care and commit. usually without any thanks, but that doesn't matter but to be criticised that's bad news
sheens
Fingers X'd for more positive news today.
Shereen
Bumped due to sighting...so pleased to hear she is in the area.I will try and call you in the next few days Clair. But I did try and get down to you...
You are wrong about my work with doglost...(and also think is a bit personal) ...I was paid to do LATE NIGHT ADMIN as keeping a website like this running takes a lot of work and is running/being updated 24 hrs a day .
But when I go out for dogs I am 100% voluntary and a busy Mum although I do spend the majority of the day/night helping dogs and other owners too...
You have always had my numbers and are welcome to call whenever you like.(and I always say anytime day or night)......
I always know if there is anything important LYDNSYD contacts me.It is actually quite hard being on the go about 20 hrs a day and just cant fit in what I'd like too...( Would love a clone, need to think of my health so I am ok for my Family ,)Last edited: 2014-01-21 00:33:41 by Shereen
LYDNSYD
Clair this is amazing news - you must be relieved that she is still O.K
Would it be possible to set up a feeding station near to the Farm area? Keep scenting the area she is being seen at. I'm constantly checking Cassie's and one of these days she will be in the Reunited section - lets hope it is soon.
Clair
PS She still has her red collar on.
Clair
Thank you to anyone who is still looking for Cassie. There have been two sightings today at about 5pm. One was by the Shepherd at Streatley Farm who saw her on the road opposite Streatley Farmhouse. She ran under his trailor as he turned into the yard. He reported that she looks well and has a much thicker coat than in her photos - to be expected.

The other was a few minutes later at Streatley Farmhouse. She was heading into the field towards Streatley following a light coloured larger dog. This is similar to a sighting on 16th November, less than quarter of a mile away, when she was seen with what was thought to be a white whippet . Does anyone know of a light coloured dog missing that may be in the area - presumably someone is looking for that dog. I can't see one on the Doglost list.
ALW
Please keep posting! I know lots of people are still looking out for her and are checking on here regularly for sightings - local farmers, agricultural contractors, builders etc. I cover an area from Hampstead Norreys through to Streatley twice daily including a lot of the woodlands and am always on the look out. Just because there aren't many comments doesn't mean that we've all given up :)
LYDNSYD
Clair - it does help to keep posting on here as that way we know she is still around so we can keep our eye's peeled when in the area. There will be others checking in on Cassie's Page that don't post on here but will still keep looking out for her. Lets hope 2014 will have some good news.
Clair
Am searching and searching around Streatley where she has been seen. Thank you for your continued interest. I know you are a volunteer so it is really kind of you.

However, I'm assuming that Doglost is no longer able to help me. I understand that Shereen is paid by Doglost, but she doesn't seem very interested in Cassie, so I don't think I will post on here anymore.

Thanks again.
LYDNSYD
Poor Cassie but I guess the good thing is that there has been another sighting. If only she would allow herself to be caught.
Clair
Cassie seen this afternoon in Cleeve Court. Looking scraggy.
Clair
I can't do daytime till Friday as am working. Can do tomorrow or Weds evening after around 6. 5.30 at a push. If we can do daytime, I can show you where she has been seen.
Shereen
Clair I must meet with you to see if we can get these camera's to work again...let me know when you are free and ill meet with you.
Clair
Hi everyone and thank you for all your support and efforts. Some answers:
I can't get the camera to work and the new one I bought doesn't work either. I think the doglost one has gunged up inside from the battery corrosion - any ideas for fixing it welcome. Otherwise I will buy one online tomorrow.
I have been out looking and she seems to be centred in one area which is near Streatley Farmhouse. They have had her poster some time, but haven't seen her. There are two large hay barns with some great places for a Patterdale to sleep but I don't know whether to concentrate on looking at night or during the day. I assume she would sleep in the day and of course it is really hard to see in the fields at night. If my suspicion is right, she has now been reported as seen around there three times in about 6 weeks - once at 5pm ish and twice at 9pm ish. I am walking the other dog there now and left food where she has been seen although no camera to capture her.
I am producing updated posters which I will laminate as the others are all sodden from the rain.

On the dog that was found and reunited - it looks SO like her, but with more grey. In particular Cassie didn't have much grey on her head in August. I detect the the paws of the dog in the photo are a bit brown whereas hers were black with grey tips, so I don't think it is her although my heart skipped a beat and if confirmation were possible, I would be reassured.

Thanks again. My mission is to find her before she gets run over as she is always seen near a fast, dark road!!!

Hi ive just seen a patterdale has been found that looks like Cassie, but in sheffield. There is a picture on the 'patterdale terrier group' on facebook.
Just after i posted this, the owner of the dog has been found-sorry. i am constantly on the lookout for cassie, i drive through there to get to work. Sincerely hope you find her xxLast edited: 2013-11-17 21:00:41 by Katkins1982
LYDNSYD
I have everything crossed for you Clair ...can you get the camera up and working and perhaps leave some food out again...it could be that as it is getting colder she is showing herself. If you can put up more posters just to remind people that she is still missing! It always amazes me how resilient dogs can be once in survival mode. Keep the faith Clair.
Clair
If it is her, she is very good at concealing her whereabouts!
Clair
I am fairly convinced there was a positive sighting of Cassie in Streatley last week very near to where I was told she was previously which I thought turned out to be someone else's dog. I am treating it as a sighting.
LYDNSYD
Oh Cassie - Can't believe you are still not home ..where are you?
LYDNSYD
That's a shame - the search goes on!!
Clair
Not Cassie. Turns out to be a local lady's dogs who go off together.
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Yes fingers and paws crossed here too that this is Cassie.
LYDNSYD
Got everything crossed that this is Cassie - odd about her being with a whippet but stranger things have happened. I check Cassie's page every day hoping there will be another sighting - it is time for some good news ---home time Cassie!!!
Carol
Clair hope you find her soon xxxx
Shereen
Bumped due to possible sighting...

Im not aware of a white whippet missing, but you never know.......Clair Ihave emailed you...
Clair
We have a possible sighting tonight not far from where Cassie was seen before. A black small terrier has been seen tonight and a week ago on exactly the same spot and was with a white whippet. Has anyone lost a white whippet? I am going to put the CCTV up there.
Clair
Where, oh where, has my little dog gone
Where, oh where, can she be?
With her tail cut short and her beard so long,
Please send her home to me.
Missing Cassie :-(
Clair
Thanks, will do that asap. Do you know who I would call out of hours?
LYDNSYD
Clair - I see we have both posted on Ref 57988 from GU16 - It looks as if the Dog Warden has put this dog on the Found section so they may not do updates ...if I were you I wouldn't wait for an update and instead give them a call. I know it is out of our area but stranger things have happened. Did you get a chance to call Railtrack and the Highway people?
Clair
No I haven't. Maybe I should do that. I think it's four weeks since she was seen.
LYDNSYD
Clair,I know this isn't a nice subject & I'm reluctant to mention it but.... So that you can discount things and you will also have peace of mind ...have you been in touch with Railtrack & the Highways Agency recently.
Clair
Thanks. No I meant that the Patterdale looks exactly like her according to the owner although if he is brown, that isn't quite accurate! So people might think it is him when it's her (or other way round). She does have a red collar and he has a different colour. Have put sign up opposite the pub on the notice board in Aldworth and a few around the village. If that's farmers' pub I will go and ask if anyone has heard of dog being shot as she does hassle livestock and will ask them to put up a poster. None of the food has gone this week from feeding stations. Only slugs and snails and magpies on the CCTV. In the past when she has gone missing, it has been up to an hour and I always get a call. She ran off from slightly further south that time and had been chasing something.
ALW
Hi, Last time Cassie ran off I found her on the road between Hook End Lane and the traffic lights at the Bull Pub in Streatley. I think that she'd only been missing for a few hours.
We do indeed have a new client at the yard with an old brown Patterdale but they've only been with us for a few weeks and Biscuit is very rarely there so I doubt that Cassie would have come for him! He lives in Townsend Road in Streatley.
Bower Farm is the turkey farm. Have you put a notice up in the Bell at Aldworth? That's the haunt of most of the local farmers.
Tiga
How long was Cassie missing for in March? Where did she run off from then? Has she been visiting this male patterdale?
Clair
Hi again ALW. Bower Farm looks to be the turkey farm near Aldworth. Is that right? We have been there and they were very helpful. I should probably remind them that she is still missing. Is there another farm in Compton? Thanks.
Clair
Thank you so much for getting in touch. Well Barn Estate does know as the McCullochs got in touch with them - apparently they had lost a chicken, but obviously that could be a fox. I will talk to Phillip in Compton and thank you for asking your riders to look out for her. There is a poster up at your yard if I'm thinking of the right place (opposite Thyme Cottage?) and I have spoken to a couple of the owners there. Apparently one of them has a male dog exactly like Cassie! Cassie did have a red collar on if that helps. Thanks again.
ALW
Hi Clair, I've just found this site. I'm the manager at Thurle Grange Stables in Rectory Road & found Cassie when she ran off in March. We brought her back to Thurle Grange then. I've not seen her here but as there appears to have been sightings then I'll ask everyone to make a point of looking when they ride out. I'll also tell our gamekeeper to hold fire! It might be worth letting our neighbours at Well Barn Estate know and also Phillip Walters from Bower Farm in Compton as he leases a lot of Thurle Grange Farm for sheep & cattle and also leases the neighbouring farms from Yattendon Estate. He drives around the fields daily. Keeping fingers crossed that she turns up safe and well.
Clair
Thanks Ladies. I certainly do feel deflated. I thought other animals would be taking the food, but this week it has been entirely Magpies. Will stay on track. :-)
LYDNSYD
Clair I know you must feel really deflated but she's shown herself twice now so stay positive. The weather forecast looks as if it is going to stay warm for a while so she may move around more now that the rain has gone. Keep scenting with your other dog.
Shereen
Keep going with it clair as I said before on here she may be doing a circuit and make her way back round...
Clair
No sign of Cassie on the CCTV.
Clair
Golf Club CCTV broken and there is no sign of her on the CCTV around National Grid station. Did you feel she was definitely tracked there? Not found any number for Thames Water that is useful and chap not been in at the cottage. Will look out for more of them. Most posters now renewed with "still lost" and have added some others. I felt that most people we met were aware she is missing and many are looking out for her (they say). Have contacted cycling and walking clubs and contacted Ocado. Will do Asda, Tesco ... when I have time - if I don't work there won't be any dog food!! Couldn't reach houses you mention as road was completely shut today just there. Will do tomorrow night. No sign of her on CCTV and food not gone in either location unfortunately.
Tiga
Tiga tracked Sunday afternoon/evening in light drizzle until the heavens opened. We tracked around the field where the sighting was and then down the national grid station and down the track to the gate into the field where the pipe laying is, out of here through the gate and onto the road and along, crossed over the road into fields where Tiga wanted to go straight across newly planted crops to farms and while doing a diversion around the edge we met the lady from the farm and she said she would keep an eye open. Here we called it a night as it was rather wet! In the morning we tracked from where Cassie first went missing along a country lane along a bridleway and on down around a farm that bred chickens and pheasants. From here we went across fields and down another lane and into the golf course at a quick pace onto the road along the fields where we tracked last night. So a lot more posters need to go up as none of the golfers we spoke to knew about Cassie. It is a huge golf course with lots of cover. I suggest the groundsmen looks at the sand when it is raked daily to see if there are any dog paw prints and that each golfer is given a small business card size poster as it is obviously a very busy and popular golf course. Hopefully all delivery drivers will have been issued with posters by now (please Clare!)as the road along the golf course was very busy. Also hopefully results will be given of the 4 cctv cameras on routes that we tracked. The more people that know about Cassie the more chance of sightings so please more posters in pubs, garages, footpath signs, bus stops, local running clubs ie Goring RC, ramblers, cyclists, dog walkers and in particular those dozen houses that overlook the field where she has been seen - door to door here would be good. We keep on about posters but they do work!
LYDNSYD
How did Tiga get on with the scenting .. got everything crossed you will be getting good news soon x
Clair
Camera set up now and I bought another one so both feeding stations have one. Have Jenny here now with Tiga and fingers crossed we find her tomorrow.
LYDNSYD
Any News on Cassie?
Clair
Yes, I think Shereen is coming tomorrow morning with CCTV. Also, Jenny I hope is coming on Sunday - I feel excited that I might finally see her again. I will put the sand round today. Is it possible she is going to both places now she knows it is there, do you think?
LYDNSYD
Clair - it is good that the food is going, now you just need to find out if it is Cassie that is taking it. You can put Sand around the food area - it would have to be enough to make an imprint - that way you will see what type of animal is taking the food. It has been done in the past & works so it might be worth a try. Have you spoken to Shereen as I believe she might have some equipment that will record who/what is taking the food. She has a lot of experience on these matters.Last edited: 2013-09-13 09:06:14 by LYDNSYD
Clair
Tonight food has gone from both locations.
Clair
Hi. Yes it is still going and never from the same feeding stn so far. Goes about every 2 days but from different place. I just cannot understand why she's not been seen by anyone and praying she hasn't been shot or injured. Our other dog followed a long trail (for him) last night in the dark into the woods so thinking of starting him again from where we left off. He doesn't usually track anything except sticks so might be something it was from very near the food that had been taken.
Shereen
is the food still going clair?
LYDNSYD
Any more news on Cassie ....so hoping it is Cassie that is eating the food at the food station
Shereen
clair have emailed you
Shereen
Has the food gone today?
Clair
Food gone today.
LYDNSYD
Clair I now have the contact details for the NHW Upper Basildon so I will text you tomorrow so you can send them Cassie's details & they will be forwarded on to the house owners in the scheme. Shame Cassie hasn't been to visit the food station but she still might so keep at it. I was told that tinned sardines were good to leave out as they are smelly - you could always do another BBQ to lure her in. She may even be making her way back to the Holies where she ran off from. Time to come home now Cassie!!!!
Shereen
its probably rats then id of thought...don't give up though...if shes in the area she will find it!....she may be doing a 2-3 day circuit
Clair
Possibly a little bit of tuna taken but not sure. Unlike her to leave anything!
Clair
Yes, the news is that she hasn't taken food from last night or this morning. Put more down tonight but no sign of her. Thanks for the ad news Sue.
LYDNSYD
Any news from the feeding station - did she take the food? Any more sightings?
Shereen
Thanks Sue
B30
Advertised in this weeks Countryman's Weekly magazine. I hope it brings some news.
LYDNSYD
That's great news about the 2nd sighting - was it at the same place as before? Hope her hunger overtakes her fear and that she is brave enough to visit the feeding station.
Shereen
Probable sighting tonight 99% sure it was her....spoken about the massive importance of starting a feeding station before we introduce the trap....feeding station will be set up tomorrow
Clair
Still looking. Sadly no sightings.
Clair
Excellent, thank you. She was seen in the afternoon. We have put posters out now in Ashampstead, Aldworth Upper Basildon and Yettington plus along the Ridgeway. Handed posters to dog walkers. We have contacted the Thames Valley Alert website - it keeps all the estate managers informed so hopefully they will circulate the poster. Also emailed the NGO National Gamekeepers Organisation. We have contacted dog walkers in a wide area, care organisations, tried supermarket drivers and are attempting to contact all the local farmers with some success. We have had BBQs where she went missing and laid urine trails but she is not taking the food we are leaving her so assume she hasn't gone back there yet. Part of the problem may be that she can travel for a very long way without meeting a single person or finding a building as it is so rural. There were loads of blackberry pickers in the popular areas this weekend and many golfers so I feel she hasn't been around here this weekend. This is very frustrating and I just hope she is keeping safe. Your help is much appreciated, thank you.
LYDNSYD
My local NHW coordinator has very kindly alerted 3 more NHW schemes 2 in Pangbourne & also the one in Whitchurch. She is trying to get contact details for Upper Basildon, Ashampstead & Aldworth
LYDNSYD
Clair - I have emailed my local Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator to see if she might be able to provide contact details for the NeighbourHood Watch in Upper Basildon. Ashampstead & Aldworth. Will let you know the outcome. Hopefully you will get more sightings now that you have postered Rectory Road and the surrounding areas. What sort of time was it when she was seen?
Tiga
Sorry wrong dog

Clair
Good idea about the Neighbourhood Watch - I am clearly not very creative in my thinking. Will Google but is that the best way? Sorry to hear about the naked man. We didn't see him fortunately. Went from where she went missing to Rectory Road and back - Collie is knackered. Found name and address of the landowner so can call re not shooting Cassie! Postering houses in Rectory Road tonight. We have left food in Cassie's bed in woods but it hasn't been touched - will keep refreshing - but she obviously hasn't been back recently. Thanks for helping me out.
LYDNSYD
Went up to the Holies with my dogs this afternoon. I saw your poster by the café. Had a good walk around but sadly no sign of Cassie unfortunately what I did stumble across was a naked man picking Blackberries ...not a pretty sight ..thank goodness I only saw the back of him!!! It would be a bonus if Cassie reappeared in the garden on Rectory Road again ..if the owner is dog friendly she may be willing to leave food out for her. Fingers crossed that there are more sightings. You may be able to contact the Neighbourhood Watch for Upper Basildon, Ashampstead & Aldworth to advise them that Cassie could move into their area. In my area we have a co-ordinator who sends emails to us when there is any info/alerts etc.
Shereen
Oh thank God, found rectory road but not vicarage!though I was going mad for a while!
Clair
Thanks. No unfortunately she isn't interested in toys at all. I put poster on toilet on golf course and at the gate near that cafe yesterday. Gave another poster to golf club and had a chat to some staff there. Put poster up outside stables opposite house where she was seen. Need to get hold of the number for the pheasant farm there. Shereen has offered traps which sounds like a good idea. I am hoping for sighting that might give me a clue to where the triangle is - assume it is west of Reading Road for now so Upper Basildon Ashampstead Aldworth. JUST REALISED I SAID VICARAGE LANE BUT ITS RECTORY ROAD!!!
LYDNSYD
Just another thought ..does Cassie have a favourite squeaky toy? Perhaps when you are looking for her she may come out to a squeaky toy noise.
LYDNSYD
Clair I can imagine today is going to be a busy day for you especially now that you have a rough area to concentrate on. It is amazing how resilient dogs can be & Cassie has done well to cope out on her own - it is also good sign that she is venturing to where people are. It would be a good idea to leaflet all the houses in the area she was last seen so that you get more people calling in with sightings. If she is going the way of the Golf course at least they are aware that she is missing as I have already given them a poster. Looks like my dogs will be going for walkies up to the top part of the Holies today so I can have another look around. There is a small refreshment hut at the top where the golfers stop for drinks etc. so I will hand in a poster to them. Come on Cassie ...time to hand yourself in. Good Luck Clair ..if you need anymore help just give me a call. Lydia
Shereen
Clair the email I sent does explain the scent trail....ill call you tomorrow and explain a bit better unless you have already spoken to JB or Owl today.
Tiga
Have you spoken to the pheasant farmer that your pet dog is missing and that should he see her not to shoot, she is a pet and not a stray. It is best to forwarn him, as it is coming up to the pheasant shooting season and that is big money to the farmers. I suggest you do this sooner than later. I do hope as more posters go up you will get more sightings and she will soon be home.
Unknown
Hope it was Cassie. Stay safe Cassie until you are caught okay?
Clair
Cassie was seen in a garden opposite the stables in Vicarage Lane in Streatley and she disappeared up towards a field at the back in direction of Wallingford (there is a pheasant farm there !!! So I need to find the line from where she went missing on Ash Hill to Vicarage Lane which is either through the Holies or across the golf course I am guessing. Spent all afternoon walking it and calling/waiting but no sign. Have moved her bed to the exact spot I lost sight of her, put chicken in it, her bowl with water beside it and a notice up to anyone finding it. Putting up notices in more places tonight as I now know she is fairly local to here. Have added her to some Patterdale sites - doing more tonight. Can anyone advise on the urine trail - my daughter doesn't want me to make the trail lead from where we lost her to our house as it involves a nasty stretch of the main Reading Road, but I can't see how she will get home otherwise.....
LYDNSYD
OMG that is amazing news ...I've got everything crossed for you Clair, Do you need any help looking for her tomorrow as I'm happy to help.Last edited: 2013-08-30 19:38:56 by LYDNSYD

Just had a call from owner to say Cassie was seen in a garden about a mile away still with collar on - can we bump please!
Clair
Yes now looking at 6 miles in most directions - lot of area to cover! There is a campsite (or some caravans/tents) in a field we can see from Ash Hill but I have no idea how to get to them - have tried very hard. There was also an event in Hook End Lane and a couple of nice chaps were camping in that field for a few days last week and he said they were cooking and were looking out for her. So I think she had a couple of places to sniff out. We had ours on Ash Hill but it is difficult to work out where to go next as there is so much choice and our time is limited by work. I don't have a working bicycle but can crawl around in the car and peruse the area in the evenings while it is light. Fantastic news re the other people's dogs. I was thinking this morning that if it were winter she may well have been more focused on getting home! Our other dog (Collie)seems to be quite down in the dumps :-(
LYDNSYD
Clair you are doing a brilliant job. Reading your last post it looks like you are looking further afield - where did you have the BBQ ..I can't think of any campsites near the Holies. Just recently several lost dogs ( some missing for up to 3 wks) have found their way home so stay positive - Cassie could also find her way home to you.
Clair
Now mailing Cassie's photo to every kennel in six counties. BBQ didn't work and there are a couple of camp sites nearby also cooking but no sightings.
Clair
Thank you Tedsmum. I'm told she could be up to 6 miles away so perhaps The Ridgeway or anywhere you fancy I would guess in the direction away from Reading Road. Bit vague I know, but I don't have much else to go on.
Tedsmum
I can pop up to the Hollies again this weekend, is there any area that you'd like me to cover on my walk instead of walking around the main path on the Hollies?
Tiga
Just had a long conversation with Clair and given her loads of advice and suggestions which I think has lifted her hopes as she know has lots of things to do. Come on Cassie.
Clair
I spoke to Phoebe who said that she would refer it to someone who I think is called Jane. But not heard anything. Thanks re poster. Good point.
LYDNSYD
Just received a DOGWATCH ALERT about Cassie - glad to see you have put her on there. Any joy with the tracker dog? Clair just a suggestion - for anyone printing off a poster - it also includes the bit about her possibly being trapped down a rabbit hole. I think I might be inclined to leave that bit out and just leave it as 'missing' that's just my opinion some might suggest otherwise.
DogLostOwl
Will ring you, Clair.
Clair
I think I have the wrong number for Phoebe and I can't remember who gave it to me. I will try Shereen.
Thanks for your continual support Lydia...
LYDNSYD
Clair, Hope you managed to get through to Phoebe. You have probably done this already but it is always a good idea once a week to phone the Dog Wardens and anyone else you can think of just to keep Cassie fresh in their minds + make another call to the Highways Dept & Railtrack. I went to the Holie's yesterday for another look around and also checked to see if the posters I had put up were still O.K - thankfully they were. The Car Park at the top of the Holies Nr the Golf Club was jammed packed and I saw several people looking at the posters so people are aware. Lydia
Clair
I can't get through to Phoebe on the number I was given. Is anyone able to confirm the number with me please?
I'm still very keen to use a dog to track her.
Thanks
LYDNSYD
Clair, I guess now that it has been a week since Cassie went missing you have to work on all possibilities. Some dogs that are stolen eventually get abandoned or sold on so it is good that she is micro chipped. If you think she may have been stolen then you will need to email Dog/Animal Wardens further afield i.e Wiltshire. It would be a good idea to contact the owners of the stolen dogs so may be you could join forces in placing Ad's and Postering. Keep all your options open as she might not have been Stolen. If you get a chance you may have to re check the Posters you have put up just to make sure they haven't been damaged by the rain. COME ON CASSIE ...IT'S TIME YOU WENT HOME xLast edited: 2013-08-20 10:15:28 by LYDNSYD
Clair
Now working on the assumption that Cassie has been stolen as have heard this evening about two other dogs who were stolen very close by and two others further afield. Offering a reward of £100.
Clair
Very frustrated today with the dog warden in Basingstoke who may or may not have Cassie but didn't come back to me to confirm. Now have to wait until tomorrow. Sent flyers to vets in berks, hants and oxon and all the dog homes in wide area. Why on earth the dog warden site doesn't add photos of found dogs is quite a mystery.
Clair
Today we searched around where she went missing and fanned out. Putting pipe down as many setts/holes as we could find. Also moved slightly out of the immediate area so covered about half mile radius from where she went into the woods. Many walkers and NT people around walking their own dogs so lots of chances of her being found/heard. However, no messages. Trying to motivate the search dog people to come and help but no calls yet. Still think it is the best chance of recovering her. Going out tonight to listen when it is quiet. Posted posters to a number of rescue homes as seems to be difficult to get email addresses etc and they need a photo. Another daughter has visited Battersea in London and sent photos. Had some friends helping out today which was very kind. Fell over a number of times - covered in bruises now! Also wrote to Reading Chronicle and Newbury paper telling them we have amazing Twitter coverage and hoping they will put the photo in. Working tomorrow so back on the case tomorrow night. Still need this search dog urgently when/if it's free.
LYDNSYD
Clair - you are doing a great job in making everyone aware that Cassie is missing. In the past I have been know to put placards - up along the road verges - it is best to put the signs up in 3 or more stages ...i.e.. MISSING ..then a bit further another placard with the dog breed...then a bit further Contact ... if Seen Tel ---- I'm sure you get my drift! I used some plywood and painted the missing details on them. By doing this you get the attention of drivers who may not have seen the posters I was amazed at the number of people who commented on the signs so they do work!!! Might be worth a try - at this stage anything is worth a try.Last edited: 2013-08-18 11:58:08 by LYDNSYD
Clair
OOH. Exciting that the lady is back. I will glue myself to the mobile in case she calls. We are still working on the basis that she is stuck underground so still covering the Holies area again today. Thanks to Owl and Lydia. And yes hadn't thought of that about the rain so that may help. We put her bed out near the car park at bottom of The Holies hill where we lost her.
LYDNSYD
It seems odd that there have been no sightings of Cassie - just wondering if there is a possibility of her being trapped in the grounds/sheds of one of the near by houses & especially as it is holiday season the house owners might not be at home - this has happened before to other dogs. I know you have posted missing flyers to the adjacent houses but as time is passing may be ask if they can check their garages/sheds etc. got to be worth a try. It is frustrating that there are so few tracker dogs available for these types of situations but I hope one becomes available. The rain hasn't helped matters but in one way if she is trapped - she may not be.... then at least she has a water source. I really feel for you and know if it was my dog like you I'd also be frantic with worry ..the not knowing is the worst thing ever. If you need help with your next search let me know as I'm happy to help! LydiaLast edited: 2013-08-18 09:53:05 by LYDNSYD
DogLostOwl
Your nearest tracker dog lady is now back in the country and I will draw this to her attention. I am too far away to come with mine.
Clair
Today, nine and a half hours searching and no sign. Used pipe down as many holes as poss. Back on the case tomorrow. Put some more posters up near Ridgeway in Streatley, Basildon Park entrance and a few more. Have launched a Twitter campaign and it has been retweeted to 2.4 million people! WE REALLY NEED A TRACKER DOG. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE WE CAN GET ONE FROM?
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
The lady who tracks dogs has been abroad and is unfortunately not available at this time. Also it would be difficult for tracking if it has been raining a lot. However, you seem to be doing everything right and you are getting some really good advice. Carry on searching and poster everywhere that you can think of. Use laminated ones if possible. The more posters you have the more likely it is for someone to let you know of a sighting. I think Shereen has already suggested you try listening down the holes. If you go to the ones nearest to where she went missing and work yr way outwards from them that would be a good plan. Maybe make a rough map of which ones you have tried. As LYDNSYD said dogs that go down holes soon emerge when they have lost a little weight. Keep trying the Fell and Morland Terrier club as they may be able to help you too. Remember dogs usually go back to the place that they went missing from. Leave something there that has her or your scent on it so she can find it: bedding with her or her doggie friends scent on it (in a box covered with plastic perhaps?) some unwashed clothes of yours and some food. She will use her nose to find it. If you take your other dog with you when looking she will be able to follow that scent too. You should be able to find Rescue centre addresses/tel numbers if you google them .. just put in a search for rescue centres in your area. Maybe a friend could help you with this? I hope this helps and you have good luck in finding Cassie over the weekend. Remember poster power .. it works!
Tedsmum
Shared on fb. I took my 2 dog's to the hollies tonight as it got dark but didn't see her. Walked up to where cows are and to the left near benches overlooking Goring.
Clair
Lydia and Shereen, do you happen to know about someone who is apparently training their dog to search for other dogs? Dave McKee who Shereen mentioned in her email told me about her. Apparently she is something to do with Doglost.
Thanks.
Clair
No we were delivering posters to houses all around the area and hook end lane and putting them up in the Coombe. I think my daughter and boyfriend are visiting the dog homes today (have a list of 12) and I will be walking the area calling and listening. I did call the Fell guy but he hasn't contacted me since yesterday so not sure if he will. I don't appear to be able to call him. Will try again. Am trying to find someone to do that. I need to get Wallingford covered with posters too.
Clare
Im sure youve checked this already but 56158 in the found dogs i think was listed as a different breed originally then changed to a Paterdale. Just a long shot but found on the 14th. Good luck finding her
LYDNSYD
I'm guessing that there was no sign of Cassie tonight - I keep checking in to see if there are any developments. I took my dogs to the Holies again today but got 3/4 way along the path & it started to pour down - checked the posters for rain damage and so far so good. Posters have now been handed in to Pangbourne Police Station and the Vets at Pangbourne. I will hand a poster in to the Vets in Tilehurst tomorrow. Clair -If you have a look at the post for Missing dog Kevin Ref 55988 - you will get an idea of how tracking dogs work this might be an option. Just hoping you get a sighting soon. Lydia p.s. Just another thought - if you have a neighbourhood watch co -ordinator see if they can email everyone in the neighbourhood about Cassie.Last edited: 2013-08-15 23:40:48 by LYDNSYD
Shereen
Clair ...look at my email I sent you ,I have incluyded the number for the Fell and Morland Terrier club who can help to tell you if she is down a hole, and to help if she is......but you do need to suspect a group of holes first so a case of finding the ones near to where she took off.
Clair
If you go through the gate into the cow field, it is like a bowl and the path goes up through the middle. I was walking around the left hand edge of the field as I am scared of cows and she went through the fence into that wood which she does every time we go there. She did get either stuck or mesmerised down a badger sett about 6 mths ago up Hook End Lane so I think the tracker dogs would at least assure me she isn't dying somewhere. I have to go to work again now for a couple of hours, but if you find any number or details of someone who can provide that service, I would be eternally grateful. Will be on mobile. Thanks so much.
LYDNSYD
Where about near the path did Cassie run off from? There are tracker dogs that can be used to hunt for Cassie but you would need to act fast so the scent doesn't disappear especially as it has been raining. I don't have the details but someone on here should know ...I think that would be a good bet! As far as posters in Pangbourne Police station Pangbourne Vets & Tilehurst Vets ...I can hand some in for you today. Good Luck with your search. I will walk my dogs at the Holies tomorrow & have a look around. Lydia
Clair
Thanks again Lydia. I have asked my daughters and brother to help search the woods. Today I put posters up in Goring Vets, the two general stores in Goring, The Coombe (although need to put another one there), and the notice board in Goring. That was just a start. Tonight I shall go looking again in slightly different place with my brother and will pop posters through all the house doors in Hook End Lane, Ash Hill (where I did knock yesterday but got no reply), and the houses around there. Will also put posters at The Ridgeway, other vets (including Burghfield and Tilehurst). Will do a few places in Wallingford. I have contacted the dog wardens and will check with them tomorrow. Dogs homes will need to wait until the weekend if they are open as I can't find email addresses or phone numbers for them. Work cut out for a few days yet. I am interested in speaking to the search organisation and I think Sereena mentioned a thermal detection tool - am not sure how that is used. Grateful as ever, Clair
and Pangbourne including popping in to the Police Station.
LYDNSYD
Clair I know it must me a really worrying time and I know it seems as if you are looking for the proverbial Needle In A Haystack but remember you are doing everything possible to get her back! She may not have gone down a hole & if she has - some dogs in the past who have got stuck have emerged after a few days once they have lost weight and can wriggle free! You said her sense of directions isn't great - the Holies is a vast area & she may have got disorientated. Once again in the past other dogs have gone around in circles and usually end up at the point of where they were lost from ...so keep going back with your dog so Cassie can trace the scent. You said she seems to be drawn to the house in the middle of the woods - can you try to hand in a Poster to them. I went up the path you took and there is a house on the left before you get to the tarmac road also once on the tarmac road there was a sign that said (I think) ASH Farm (Private) so if you can - hand a poster into them as well. Where about in the walk did she run off? Was it before the tarmac pathway?? If you have a set of Binoculars take them with you. As we have mentioned you may now need to poster out of the Holies area - Hook End Lane has quite a few houses around so try visiting them and handing in posters or mini flyers. If you have friends and family willing to help - get them to share the burden of postering! We are here to help you so keep posting on here so we know what you have done. I can take my dog back to the Holies and have a look around. P.S. It rained yesterday so you may need to check your posters from time to time as rain is the enemy for posters as the ink can run when rain seeps through the plastic pockets. Clair
I am getting quite worried now. We walked the woods this evening and shouted for Cassie. I am surprised that nobody has found her and now wonder if she must be in a hole. Sereena mentioned using some tools to locate her but as it is such a wide area, how do I even make a start? Thanks.
Clair
Thank you Lydia and Shereen for your help. I am going out to hunt for Cassie in a while. There have been no dog related road incidents in this area and i will continue to distribute the posters. Have contacted as many dog wardens as I can and will continue with that tomorrow and call the dog rescue centres. Thanks again, Clair
Shereen
Thanks LYDNSYD....have had a chat to Clair and sent further advice by email.
LYDNSYD
Clair, I took my dogs for an extended walk to the Holies today but sadly no sign of Cassie. I have put up & Handed in posters to the following. - Poster now up by the Car Park where you parked to walk Cassie + the 2 houses next to the walk have also had posters put in their letter boxes. A Poster was handed in to the Bull Pub at Streatley and they will put it up by the door. At the main car park on Streatley Hill there are 3 Posters. I then went to Streatley & Goring Golf Club and they will put a poster up in the Club House. On the way back down Streatley Hill there is a Poster on the Telegraph Pole near the Traffic Lights. Pangbourne Postal Depot was closed so I have put a Poster under their door ...it might also be a good idea for you to give your regular Postman a Poster. POSTER POWER really does work and you literally can't put too many posters up!! The main Road near to where she went missing is a really busy & fast one so I hope she stays away from there! I'm keeping everything crossed she is back home with you. Good luck with your search tonight - Your other dog may sniff her out. Let us know how you get on. Lydia
LYDNSYD
Just spoken to Cassie's owner and she went missing yesterday evening. She ran off into near by woods at the bottom of the Holies and didn't come back. NO Posters have been put up yet as the owner is at work - I will be taking my dogs for a walk there today to have a look around and will put up posters around the walk. I'm sure the owner would appreciate any assistance in helping to find Cassie.
LYDNSYD
Sorry to se Cassie is missing. What part of the Holies did she go missing from? Have there been any sightings? Do you live near by i.e could she find her way home? I can walk my dogs at the Holies today & have a look for her ...just need to know what side to concentrate on. I hope she is back home with you soon.
