Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
kyzar
RIP little man golf ball's by the bucket full waiting over the bridge xxx

I'm so very sorry you didn't make it back little one - your family tried so hard to bring you home. Wait for them at the Bridge - they'll come to join you when the time is right and you can take them across.......Until then - have fun sweetie. xx

It is with a very heavy heart that I update Nipper page with the very sad news that Nipper has been found at Rainbow bridge. Update from the family:

Hi Everone,
I'm sorry but I have to share some very sad news.
Following a phone call to a family member today regarding the sighting of a dead dog in the Barden area, I regret to inform you that the dog is Nipper.
Obviously we are all absolutley devastated.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the search and speading the word. We cant name you all personally but you know who you are.
Extra special thanks to honeyharvey, kyzar and Yvette who all worked so hard helping us to find our beloved Nipper.

Could I respectfully ask that if you are passing a Nipper poster, if you could take it down that would be greatly appreciated.

Once again a huge heart felt thank you to all of you from Nippers family XXXX

Run free lovely Nipper. :(( xxx

Just read on facebook that poor Nipper has been found at Rainbow Bridge about half an hour ago. RIP NIPPER you touched so many hearts and well done to all the helpers who worked tirelessly to find him. I am devestated for the owners but now they have closure, though it be the worst kind of closure xx
honeyharvey
The sightings yesterday may not have been Nipper another jr but with a brown ear was spotted by two people and it may well have been him Two of us walked all around the area again this morning but no luck. If the lady with the tracker beagle could turn up we would make really good use of her. We could take her to Towneley Park to see whather there is anything there. Thanks very much pigpog for responding x
PigPog
Sounds promising, could the area where the sighting was be postered asap? (if it's not already of course!) I have asked my friend with a tracker beagle if she is around to help look tomorrowLast edited: 2013-04-13 16:48:31 by PigPog

Family are going out tomorrow night and all help is remaining in the background to give them chance to get him home xx Fingers crossed by everyone involved in the search. 152 comments on his facebook page re the sighting amazing x Can you bump again please xx

Was out walking the canal at the crack of dawn looking for the illusive Mr Nipper this morning, decided to go in the opposite direction to area we have been searching this time...went all the way to B&Q in Nelson having a good look under bushes and in trees for a little sleeping place but nothing that even resembled where an animal may have been curled up sleeping/resting..
honeyharvey
Cheers Kyzar we really could not have managed without your knowledge of the local area. It was very frustrating but great to see so many strangers turn up to help. It was a credit to the Burnley community spirit. I totally agree with Kyzar a massive thanks for all the support xxx
kyzar
We had lots of helpers turn up today to help in the search for Nipper,..honeyharvey managed to get her hands on a large map of the area, which had all the possible sightings of Nipper marked up, we all split into small groups and looked in different areas around a specific location each area lead back to the canal bank..the little beggar never showed his face..but a huge thankyou to each and every one of you that turned up x

3 possible sightings in same area on Saturday around the Asda junction of M65 and surrounding fields. Searching intensified with many volunteers now and facebook page has helped. Two of us knowing Nipper loves mints managed to obtain a sack of waste mint imperials which we ran over in the car to crush and did trail from the area of recent sitings to his home using safe routes and putting the mints in places where they may not blow or get washed away. Who knows if it will work but worth a try !! Also going to council today to get a plan of all the culverts and canal system for the areas of sightings to work out his routes as we know all the sightings have been just off the canal network. Loads of people are still postering. Also contacting the BEE radio today to try and get Nippers story on their newsfeed, met a girl yesterday who said it was newsworthy. Tomorrow hopefully a meet up at Barden Mill in the afternoon to scour the woods and fields around the latest sightings. Many places for a small dog to get out of the weather. Fingers crossed xxx

Sightings of Nipper possible on The Griffin Estate, Tkmax carpark and The Inn on the Wharf all around the same area of Burnley and all within easy reach of the canal. Can we push a search this afternoon Saturday along the canal banks from Rose Grove to Barden Marina, he is reported as thin and limping now so time is essential to help him. Have we any volunteers who could spare an hour to help this afternoon.Could someone please send a request for Doglost helpers in the BB9,10,11,12 areas for support thanks very much. x PS Loads of posters taken down that I put up too.
honeyharvey
He is still using the canal system as his route by the look of things, there is a culvert that runs into Towneley Park from The Wharf area too and tomorrow my hubbie and I are going to walk all around the area along the canal to see whether we can spot him. Will also take food with us. Back on track now Kyzar back from snowy Wales x

Walked to Prairie and over onto the canal at Barden Marina, walked all the way along to Thompsons park again putting posters up only saw one all the way, was very naughty as i had dogs with me and went into Thompsons Park (no dogs allowed) put up a poster nr childrens play area, then back on to Bank Hall put a few posters up on there also, walked up Eastern ave and Casterton ave replacing posters that have gone saw nothing, went down to Bank Hall car park early hours this morning and then by the Queen Vic just sat for a while to see if Nipper was about scavenging by the bins but all i saw was foxes and rabbits
kyzar
Skippy this is all in the same small area, with the canal running under Ormerod rd and along the top of Hart st,Lindsay street and TK Maxx car park

Thanks for all you are doing kyzar. I know that Nippers family appreciate all the local help and support they are receiving.

In addition to the reported sighting in the Ormerod street area earlier today, Nippers family have received reports of further sightings in the Church Street, Hart Street and Lindsay Street areas.

Loads more posters put out around Towneley Park, Pike Hill and surrounding areas also in the park itself and most walking accesses are postered. Local shops including the Spar he was seen outside yesterday have posters inside and out .Fried some sausages on a camp cooker in the rain at lunchtime, park very quiet but nothing seen at all.Checked Sweetwell Kennels and gave them a poster too. Some scenting has been done but it looks like he has moved on somewhere. An article should be in the local paper again this week as a follow up to the article about the accident but awareness is high already.x

****UPDATE**** Multiple sightings of Nipper today all around the Townley Hall and Pike Hill area. Still reported in the area this evening.

Please if you are in the area - look our for him - if you do see him do not call out to him, or make eye contact - stay low to the ground and speak quietly. Carry a spare lead and food or treats and allow him to approach you.

Thanks honeyharvey and kyzar for all that you are doing to help Nippers owner. It's very much appreciated. x

On Monday i walked on the canal from near Nippers home right to Bankhall coming off by the nursing home and all the way back along Colne rd ..nothing

Today i have been all around Pike Hill ,Rowley Lake & Woods then walked around the Top of Towneley ..Deerpark,Springhill,then around the 9 hole golf course before driving very slowly down through Towneley Nipper still missing.
honeyharvey
Went back tonight and walked for an hour with my dog all around the derelict houses and new builds and right down the length of the shops and across the road Bank Hall area but nothing much to report. Nips family are going looking after I have left. Checking thoroughly the area behind the college and between the canal, secluded walks through brush and shrubs so possible area. Frustrating no sighting for two days despite posters x
honeyharvey
Been all around the area of the sightings at lunchtime today but nothing seen. Went down all the alleys at the back of Bargain Booze and there are many yards with gates missing and old furniture, derelict outhouses etc where he could be hiding and loads of ripped open bags with food in about too. Just no Nipper! The canal has been thoroughly searched regularly in both directions but there is a railway line behind the canal too. Hope he is staying nearer to the shop area where the accident took place. Going back later with my dogs and the owners are going to start scenting too tonight. They are going there at all different times to try to spot him but nothing seen. Come on Nips out of your hiding place xxxx

70 posters out now, Burnley Bus Depot have a poster at every stand and also in both canteens and the drivers room too, all the workmen aand demolition men working locally are aware of Nipper. No sightings today around Duke Bar but he was spotted last night hopefully near Bargain Booze not far from where the accident happened. The newspaper story has really raised awareness and we just need someone to be able to catch him tonight.Still on with it. He belongs to an older chap who takes him everywhere, they are inseperable. Nipper is 7 yrs old and loves crisps xxx

Shared on facebook have friends in the area who will keep a look out for him

He is also in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph tonight as the car he was travelling in was hit by a runaway lorry which broke the window enabling him to bolt !!!

Spent an hour after work searching all around the area he disappeared in, it is full of derelict houses and building sites backing onto the canal. Spoke to loads of people and gave out numbers to contact but no sighting. Spoke to the owner tonight and they are going to put more detail on asap. They are trying very hard to find Nipper. They are going to get posters out tomorrow hopefully. He ius within 1 mile of home and half a mile of where the accident happened. Help would be really appreciated before time passes. Thanks.

Has anyone checked RSPCA Altham and the local kennels yet? We should be postering along the canal area now.

Spoken to loads of people in the area walking along the canal bank but no joy. No posters up at all and no other people searching which was odd. Spoke to workmen and dogwalkers around that area and gave my number out. Checked loads of alleys and back yards of derelict houses. Loads of factories around the area should be leafleted.Walks along the canal with loads of shrubbery where he could be. Can we organise a canal walk and search for this evening?
