Great Start to a New Year. Keep safe now Wurzel with your new family xx
SuzeeBee
What a gorgeous picture, even with all the mud. He will need to be watched very closely as he has had a taste of freedom,he won't remember being cold and hungry but he will remember what fun it is chasing wildlife !! Stay safe you lovely boy and good luck in your new home xx

OMG...what a difference 3 days out can make...
Unknown
I think it involved a spot of rounding up with quad bikes. A tip which might come in handy for Humphrey and Dolly....
Shereen
Brilliant news!...would be interested in how he was found/caught!
Unknown
We do like a good reunited pic. However, it's a bit hard to reconcile the top pic with the clean white hound below ! Still, nothing like a good bath to remove three days of Cambridgeshire mud !
jobadger
So very pleased you're home safely.... have a long and happy life gorgeous! xx

great news x
SuzeeBee
Absolutely fantastic, best news for start of 2013 well done to everyone.I hope the new owners appreciate just what they are taking on with a PBGV. Although only small they are very determined scent hounds and cannot be trusted off lead. They also need a very secure garden as they are escapologists. Good luck in your new home Wurzel I hope you and your new family have many happy years together. Stay safe now xx

Reported on facebook that Wurzel has been found safe but exhausted.
Well done to everyone invovled that helped get this little chap to safety xxx
SuzeeBee
It is good that sightings are being phoned in. These little hounds are very resilient and boy can they cover the ground. If he is "doing the triangle thing" try to get the posters up in front of him and if the foster carer could "do the scenting thing" that would be good.Does anyone have a hound that will bay on command that may attract his attention (just trying to think of anything that might help) Good luck today everyone that is searching and stay away from the A1307 Wurzel x
Unknown
Tonight was not to be. He was actually spotted in Cardinals Green just south of the A1307. He's doing the triangle thing and I'm guessing he could be heading for Camps Road.
Maggie
Come on Wurzel time to come home and see in the new year with your family x
Unknown
He's been seen tonight near Mill Green. Owner/fosterer were urgently called for about 50 minutes ago.
Unknown
Some food has been left out in a barn (with the doors open) near where Wurzel was seen today at Hanchetts Boarding Kennels. Fingers crossed that he takes shelter and has the food AND that someone can close the door on him. Fingers crossed, everyone !

Come on Wurzel please show your face soon Amanda x

Scenting Instructions now E-mailed x
Unknown
Good point, SuzeeBee. I'll ask Helen to do that.
SuzeeBee
Has Heathlands animal rescue been sent scenting instructions. As there have been more sightings this might be helpful, he would probably recognize Judi's scent and it might keep him in the area. Good luck everyone looking for this poor little chap. Stay safe Wurzel x

Yes Nik I would say that is the 3rd side looking at the map.
It's good that the kennels are leaving food out for him, this will hopefully keep him in the area...
Unknown
Helen, third side of a triangle ?
Abe babe
I'm fifteen minutes away, if needed call 07826101590, will try and get out tomorrow afternoon to search but may have to work. Last edited: 2012-12-31 16:47:55 by Abe babe

So pleased that he has been seen again. Thought that he might be drawn by the noise of dogs barking. Please be brave little Wurzel and let someone find you. Stay safe sweetheart xx
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
That is good news Wurzel has been seen, hopefully he will be brave enough to be caught very soon.
I have updated Dog Lost Cambridge facebook group and other groups in the area with these new sightings x
Pamb
Wurzel was seen this morning by Hanchett Hall boarding kennels, Haverhill by two people. Owner of kennels will leave food out and try to find him in the morning..... Fingers crossed!
Unknown
Thanks for that update, caninefeline. A pbgv would certainly join in a hunt, so let's hope someone has him tucked up.
Willowdale
I have just spoken to the Game Keeper at Bartlow, Dave Peters. He said the hunt had been out today and there were no sightings of him. He seems to think that he isn't now in the Bartlow area. He said it is quite possible someone may have him indoors and are waiting for the Dog Warden to be back at work on Wednesday..Lets hope he is right. xx
Unknown
Caninefeline, yes that's the mix I was working on so I'm glad to have some confimration. Most are that thin when the coats been clipped. I'm guessing that he had to be shaved as he was so matted when he was found. And presumably that's how he got his name.
Willowdale
He is a Basset Griffon Vendeen cross Spaniel. He is a bit on the skinny side, with a severe hair cut.
SuzeeBee
I believe he was being fostered in Milton but had just been collected by new owners and escaped before even getting into his new home. So poor little chap will be completely lost. This is a message from his foster carer on facebook -
Heathlands Animal Sanctuary, Royston "He is very out of his depth and scared - he wasn't like that when I fostered him - followed me everywhere and didn't want to be in the garden even without me. This is out of character and he must be very confused as to why he has been moved on. This is the critical time for a rescue dog - moving from foster to permanent home. We always stress the need for security in the first few weeks until the dog is bonded. Its tragic he got out without even getting inside his new home as he wont know to go back there and is far away from his foster carer. If anyone spots him, please call as his best chance is for me or Judi to get him as he knows us. I am just hoping someone has him and will call tomorrow"
If anyone spots him call his foster carer 07923 433278 and please don't chase him as he is so scared he will panic. I can't stop thinking about this poor little boy,if anyone is local please print off some posters and put up anywhere in the area so we have a chance of another sighting. Stay safe Wurzel x Last edited: 2012-12-31 09:52:46 by SuzeeBee

He's a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen although he dos'nt look like it with his fur clipped, best to go by his picture, these dogs are scent hounds. Looks like he's taken fright they can run for miles when they go, if seen best to just phone the contact number and keep him in sight as he could take fright again. He must be getting hungry by now so lay food down for him this should help.
Pamb
Where did Wurzel come from? Could he be heading home?
Unknown
I wouldn't normally do this so soon, but I've contacted BBC Cambs, Heart Cambs and Cambridge105FM.
Unknown
Munro33, You just beat me to it. We can now see those distinctive BGV patches now. SuzeeBee, I contacted thw Cock Inn last night, but I can do it again. Any idea what X Wurzel might be ? I was wondering whether it might be springer ?
Munro33
SuzeeBee good idea, have added the side view pic. Fingers crossed he is found tomorrow :( poor boy must be so scared
SuzeeBee
The Cock Inn at Castle Camps have a facebook page if anyone can add.

There is a good side view photo of Wurzel on Heathlands facebook page. Shows his shape and markings well, can any one add to this page? Stay safe sweetheart until you can be found.x

Alison P, they come to life at night, so that's a distinct possibility.
Alison P
We have just returned as lost light. We want through Linton, bartlow, horse Heath, nosterfield end and sturmer. Unfortunately no sightings. Wonder whether he is laying low ad waiting until its dark to move on?
Unknown
Thanks, everyone. There seems to have lots of people out looking for Wurzel today. What we need is another sighting so that we can plot in on a map. Although pbgv types are tough little things, this one had a very bad start in life and will be very, very nervous.
Willowdale
We have just got back as light is fading. We have been to Castle Camps, Helion Bumstead, Haverhill and surrounding areas. We have put up posters and spoken to horse riders, people in the park and the local game keeper. I am hoping he has found somewhere dry and warm and will be found tomorrow.
Alison P
Just on our way to the area - is there any news? We don't know the area very well but have map. We are heading towards sturmer - if someone can give me some details of where hasn't bean searched then we can try and cover some ground that hasn't already been covered
SuzeeBee
So sorry that I am too far away to help search. Can anyone help the owners with printing and putting up posters around the area he was last seen. Posters are the key to more sightings. Contact all the farmers and gamekeepers in the area and ask them to look out. Take a poster to Linton Zoo and ask them to display they have lots of visitors. I hope this poor frightened little chap can be found safe and well very soon PBGV's are tough little hounds but he must be very scared not knowing the area. Good luck everyone xx
BaileyP
Sorry not out - family belated Christmas Day today. Can speak to them by phone later if he hasn't been found. I can go out looking tomorrow. I'll message you my number on FB Nik to pass to them for later. Can't talk this afternoon sadly. X
Unknown
BaileyP, are you out and about ? Are you able to help the owner and her daughter with some practical advice. The owner doesn't have internet access.
BaileyP
Sorry Munro33. I don't have info about the microchip. I'm not from Heathlands just a volunteer for them and doglost helper. Someone from Heathlamds would need to supply the number.x
Unknown
Thanks, everyone. Castle Camps is rather small, so not very many organisations to get the news out to. So lots of posters and ears and eyes, please !
Munro33
BaileyP I was trying to get the microchip details for the dogLost microchip scanning initiative:

DogLost is always seeking new ways to help find your dog, and a new scheme will soon link microchip scanners to our database – Which was launched in September.

This means that when a dog is scanned with our scanner an alert will be shown on the scanner stating if the dog is held on our database as lost or stolen. This will save time for Vets and other professional and make it easy for them to scan all dogs as a matter of course.

The scanners will only be available to vets, dog wardens, rescue centres and similar professionals. The scanner, linked to our database, will allow them to see immediately if a scanned dog has been registered as LOST on DogLost, and contact us to help reunite you with your dog promptly.

It sounds like it might be a quicker and easier way for people to get lost dogs reunited, but it may just be the same thing as the national database. It doesn't go on the poster.Last edited: 2012-12-30 09:30:52 by Angus
BaileyP
Thanks Denise you're a star!x
BaileyP
Munro33 The microchip number doesn't need to be on the poster. If he's found and scanned the chip number is linked on the database to Heathlands anyway.
DeniseAston
Already printed some out......not a problem at all.
Thanks
BaileyP
Denise can you print out some posters and put them up in the area if possible please? That would be so helpful !! X
DeniseAston
Hi there - such a sad tale, I live in the area - we will of course keep our eyes open when we walk our two dogs this morning - I have posted the poster on everyones wall via Facebook that I know that live around here - and have also been in touch with the sadlery in Castle Camps who were very kind, and who will also ask about and help......fingers crossed for his safe return.
BaileyP
From Heathlands Facebook page: someone spotted a dog they were sure was him late last night between the Hazel Stubb and Nosterfield End area. Tried to catch him and get him into the car but he ran off across the field.

I have asked people to update this page as well as the FB page.
AlisonH
Poster and flyers made up and emailed to owner along with local information.
Unknown
On Facebook and very near the sighting:

We were driving up to Haverhill this afternoon, just before we got to the main road after going through Bartlow we saw a car in front of us in the middle of the road with his hazard lights on, and a small terrier-type dog running the opposite way into Bartlow on Dean Rd. I assumed the car had hit the dog but honestly not sure. Don't know if this is connected but thought I should let you know

To make matters worse, Wurzel was abandoned in an empty house and left to starve to death. We really need to find him before he comes to any harm.
Munro33
BaileyP, do you know wurzels microchip details? These can be added to the link and dogLost has a log of dogs found by microchip number I think?
BaileyP
Wurzel is micro chipped to Heathlands Animal Sanctuary and has a collar tag with their contact details too. He was wearing a yellow fluorescent collar when he escaped from the car.
BaileyP
Wurzel was only adopted today and got away from his new owners so he is in a completely strange environment/area. Last seen trotting along the road from Bartlow towards Castle Camps direction about 3 o'clock. Anyone in that area please check your gardens. If you see him don't chase him or shout but please follow him and phone the numbers given.
Alison P
He was last seen trotting down road from Bartlow towards Castle Camps at about 3pm - this is the latest info on Heathlands fb page.
Unknown
I'm going to change the breed on this one to pgbv. I'll let the club know.
