Well done Karen - National Pet Register is worth registering her on too if you haven't already. http://www.nationalpetregister.org/pet-search.php

Good luck - hope she turns up again soon. x
Karen
Just done ad on Gumtree and also registered her on the Animal Search UK website. Lots more on that link you gave me, but will have a look at them tomorrow. Thanks so much once again for your info.

Hi Skippy - thanks for your comments, I will have a look at the page in case there is something I haven't done. I immediately did leaflet drop around neighbours the day after she went AWOL, posted her on facebook and got friends to share - gave details to Mrs Murrays Cat & Dog Home, CPL, Vet and a Lost & Found Pet Page on facebook for my area. I registered her missing with Petlog who I believe put out a bulletin to organisations within a 30 miles radius of my home, even did the dreaded bit of checking with the council but nothing there either. I have looked a few times on gumtree at the found pets bit but hadnt thought about posting up a poster myself (will do that) and been told to try local radio stations too. I have a couple of dogs too, so we have been out on marathon walks in all directions shaking bags of dreamies and calling on her and just nothing at all - been out in daylight and late at night and have roped in friends and have friends looking for her and shouting on her when they are out walks. Had an advert ran for 3 days and 3 nights in local papers too. Was going to put up some missing posters in the local shops too this weekend. Just trying everything we can. My friends cat went missing earlier this year and turned up 6 months later like nothing had happened and another friend told me of a cat that has been reunited with its owners 3 years after disappearing - so never giving up hope of finding her, miss her so much. I have had cats for nearly 20 years and they have went missing before but longest was 5 days - its 3 weeks tomorrow that Smudge was last seen. Away to have a look at your link - again thank you for this, Karen x

Also Karen - have you checked out the ads on Gumtree - quite a lot of found cats get posted on there - worth a look if you haven't already and also worth posting a lost ad for Smudge too. x

Catchat website has a great action plan of things you can or should do. Many of these will be the same as for finding a lost dog, - but link is here if there is anything you haven't thought of yet - http://www.catchat.org/lost.html

They also have a list of local rescues all of who might be contacted if a cat is found - http://www.catchat.org/adoption/grampian.html

I also assume you have contacted all your local vets - make sure they all get her details. Cats tend to travel a little less than dogs so lots of fliers through local doors can also be really effective. Encourage neighbours to check garages and sheds to make sure she hasn't got herself shut in somewhere. Keep an eye on windowsills of any empty houses or houses where neighbours may be on holiday.

I work with a cat charity close to where I live (not close to you I'm afraid or else I'd help on the ground) and almost without exception it is the posters and fliers that bring lost cats home. It is also great that Smudge is chipped. Just last week the charity I help out with reunited a cat via his chip. He had been missing for 14 months and was found in the same road he went missing from despite his owners extensive efforts to find him at the time he went missing.

Good luck with your hunt - you are doing all the right things! She might just waltz in again at any time. They can be little monkeys when then want to be!

phone number updated
Karen
Phone number above is incorrect - should be 01224 741 633. I am Smudge's owner so thanks so much for posting this. She is registered missing with Petlog and have done everything suggested including an advert in local paper and still no news at all. She is quite nosey so we are concerned she might have hitched a lift with a delivery van somewhere.

Sorry to see that SMUDGE is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (45475)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
