Excellent news! I had a gut feeling this would end happily. Thank you everyone who was involved in finding and re-uniting Spattee. And big thank you to Dogs Lost for being there in the first place and making it possible for people to help.

So very, very pleased this lovely girl is home safely. Well done to all concerned. Also lovely to read of the help you're considering for Spattee's mum - you're all amzing people. xx
DogLostAngus
I have uploaded the emotional picture of Spattee and her Mum who is in a wheelchair, massive thanks to all the team who helped search for her & made this reunion possible xx
Winnie
Thanks Tobys Mum. I hope to visit Spattees owner this week, so maybe we can sort something out. Forgot about the Cinnamon Trust, a friend uses them! Maybe some real good has come from Spatte going missing. Brilliant website DogLost. Thanks for helping find Spattee.
Tobys Mum
Fantastic news.....well done to you all and especially to Spike and partner. The 'Cinnamon Trust' would be brilliant to contact as they can organise just the help that the owner needs; Winnie can you pass this on to the owner, maybe somebody there could help share the walking. Hi LisaP - please send the piture to admin@doglost.co.uk put ID 44602 in the header and we will do the rest xx
Winnie
Phari, thanks for offering to help with walking Spattee etc. I have four dogs as well, but I do have a car which will help a bit. I have found one of our regular dog walkers who is also willing to help, I wont be able to walk them every day. It isnt a good situation for either the dogs or the owner to be in really. The owner told me that she is training her new puppy herself to be a disabled helping dog. I just worry that Spattee has never been out of the garden, apparently the three dogs just play together for exercise. The whole situation seems very sad. My Mobile number is 07867808590. Please anyone who may be able to help this lady with her dogs feel free to contact me.
LisaP
I have a photo of the re-union, not very good quality as shaking hands and tears etc!. Please can you advise how I can add this? Thanks x
LisaP
I am also forgetting the most important person - Lindsey Perrymans husband who was the person who, through patience, in not the best of conditions, managed to approach Spattee from behind and put the lead on her - thank you xx

FAB news, welcome home gorgeous Spattee. :) x

WELL DONE to everyone who helped get her home. x
LisaP
Thank you to everyone who has helped Spattee get home to her Mum.
I must make a special mention to 'Spikeinpeacehaven' who spotted Spattee this morning, then went home, registered with Dog Lost and confirmed the sighting.
This enabled all the search party to get there, along with Karen the Owner. And the rest, as they say is history!! Thank you all x

Sylvie Blackmore on BBC Sussex is on air until 3pm and she'll be giving the searchers a special mention. Thanks Sylvie !

BBC Sussex have just been on and we were very happy to tell them that Spattee had been reunited. Well done everyone !

Wish I lived nearer my two dogs are old now so can't go on long walks xx

Winnie i can help occassionally but with 4 of my own i don't get a lot of spare time. I didn't realise she had 2 others, i thought it was just 1 other.
skippy
Really pleased this gorgeous girl has been found safe and well. Welcome home Spattee! :)x
Winnie
So pleased Spattee has been found unharmed. Just wonderred though if a group of us might be able to take turns exercising Spattee and the other two dogs. I know it is impossible for the owner to do it, and she loves her dogs very much, but they really do need socialising and walking. Anyone out there like to join me in offering?
Spikeinpeacehaven
I am so pleased that we found Spattee this morning. It was a fantastic joint effort and shows the power of the internet and Facebook. Great to see so many people all working together and the euphoria at finding her.

Come on girl.in derbyshire, wish i was closer xx
k9shaz
Owner is aware and is either at the Dell now or on her way there
connorbrighton
Any chance you could ring the owner so she could come up and call Spattee? Sorry I'm not in the area at the moment, but so glad she's been spotted again.
LisaP
Thank you Spike. Owner just text saying 'seen spattee in dell just now'
COME ON SPATTEE!
Spikeinpeacehaven
Saw Spattee @ 08:20 this morning by the Dell on the bush side of Coffee Haven. Myself and partner tried to catch her but she is more timid than i thought and she retracted further into the bush. Can anybody get down there now to assist. My partner is still down there?
k9shaz
Not sure if this was done yesterday, but posters/flyers need to be poked through the letterboxes of the houses alongside the Dell as this is one of the places she's been sighted.
k9shaz
MEETING TODAY. BETWEEN 10 AND 10.30 AT THE PEACEHAVEN TOBY CARVERY, WHICH IS JUST A BIT ALONG FROM SMUGGLERS REST. It's open from 9 so you can at least get a coffee which we didn't get yesterday.
connorbrighton
The fact that the dog was never walked explains a lot. I did ask the owner where she and her other dogs were exercised, but couldn't get a reply. Have been wondering why Spattee hasn't returned home, given that she seems to be hiding only five minutes away.
Poor girl, must be very confused, but all this news is hopeful. Unfortunately I am working today, otherwise would help with the search, however will check the park and cliffside area on the way to and on the way back from work today.
Thank you to everyone who is helping, it's really heart-warming that so many people care.
Winnie
Providing Spattee stays the South side of the main Coast road, she should be safe and stands an excellent chance of being found She cant go any further South than the fenced off cliffs, and there are plenty of places for her to snuggle up. The cliffs cover a few miles East to West and many people walk the cliff top route daily so please God it is only a matter of time now before she is rescued. Will take my dogs along there tomorrow.
To Phari who asked about Spattees regular walks. I spoke to her owner this morning, and apparently Spattee has only ever exercised in the garden because of her owners disability, Therefore, she would not be able to find her way home.
kushka
I went right into those bushes too, they were perfect. Left some sausages :)Last edited: 2012-11-03 19:25:12 by kushka

I spoke to three people with possible sightings in that area east and west of the carvery. Two were at night and one was this morning. There were people out looking and posting between 10 and 3 today and even though we didn't see her there's posters everywhere and many of the locals know she may be about and will be keeping an eye out. If she is there I hope the fireworks tonight don't make her run.
k9shaz
At the Dell, there are some bushes next to the fenced off bit, and at one point, there's a big gap which is just her size. We went into the middle of the bushes, looks like it might be used by alcoholics but it's a possible place for her to make a den where she'd be out of the wind and rain. Thought it might be an idea if Karen left a piece of bedding or clothing in there.
Phil Saunders
Some time ago, my opposite neighbour's dog ran off from Telscombe Cliffs during a thunderstorm and was found alive and well two weeks later at Newhaven Fort. Given this info, and the possible sighting at the The Dell, I'm going to focus my attention towards the strip of land south of the A259 between Peacehaven and Newhaven.
k9shaz
Gave Karen our remaining posters. She has LOADS !!! Michelle did a great job of printing them off.
k9shaz
Today Hannah and I walked all round the Dell, put a poster on one of the benches, then walked eastbound along the coast path putting posters on every dog bin along the route, handing out flyers to everyone walking, and gave some to the residents. Then we cut up Mayfield Ave to the main road, left some flyers in The Best Fish & Chip shop, stuck one on a bus shelter, and handed out flyers to people walking by.
Phari
Is there a set route that Spattee used to walk every day? just wondered if she might be following that but somehow got her self lost.
I'm really sorry that you didn't find her today. I saw 1 of the posters on the entrance to The Dell on why way to Eastbourne. Depending on what time you go out tomorrow i might be able to join you.
Please come home Spattee, it's not a nice time to be out all alone with all those fireworks going off.
LisaP
If anyone can help tomorrow, please can they TEXT Karen on 07794 395 223. Karen has hardly got any voice, so this is the best option. Time of tomorrows meet not yet decided as she is hoping to go out early at sit in the vicinity of The Bells Club, just in case Spattee makes an appearance. Thank you.
Unknown
Thanks for the update LisaP and to everyone who went out searching today.
LisaP
During our search this morning, Karen got a call from a Man who had seen a dog matching Spattee's description at The Dell at around 11.20am today.

We immediately went there but there was no sign. After walking around that area and along the coast, we then moved to the Carvery car park area as this is where she was seen on Thursday night near The Bells Club, but again nothing. We were hoping that the Carvery smell would entice her.

Postering has been done in abundance today and we caught a lot of dog walkers as well which should help.

A massive thank you for the people that came to help us all today.
Come on Spattee please show yourself before the dreaded fireworks start being let off :(

Details of any further organised searches will be shown on this page.

Posters handed out at the market. Also put in Peacehaven town council office. 1 is heading down to sainsburys in Newhaven.
Unknown
Thanks, everyone. Fingers crossed that the search team find her this morning.
connorbrighton
That's great news. So sorry I won't be able to make it as I am working this morning and tomorrow. Fingers crossed that you find her. There are some thick bramble patches in the rough ground (along cliff side behind pub and to the east)and a few years ago one of my dogs got caught up in the brambles and got stuck fast because of her long coat. Just a possibility.
Good luck to all. By the way, there are now sheep on the Tye across the road from Smuggler's Rest pub (formerly called Badgers Rest/Watch).
To the person who suggested Rottingdean, I have been looking up there, along Whiteways area, last couple of days.Last edited: 2012-11-03 06:47:12 by connorbrighton
Winnie
Just driven along to Bells Club and walked a wide area with my dogs. We searched around the outbuildings with a torch and around the back of the Carvery. Also around the bushes and rough ground surrounding the area calling Spattee. Sadly no response.
DogLostAngus
organised search tomorrow morning

the meeting point is:

Smugglers Rest, South Coast Road, Telscombe Cliffs, Peacehaven, BN10 7BE

LisaP
Owner has had a call regarding a GSD in the car park of The Bells Club (next to Peacehaven Carvery) possibly last night. The person who ma have seen her is now out so we wont know anymore until tomorrow. If this is her, it is worrying as it is the 'sea' side but I will update as soon as I know. Winnie, some posters have apparently gone up but we are meeting tomorrow at 10am to do a surge. We are meeting at The Smugglers Rest car park if you want to join us. Thanks.
Winnie
I lost my dog Humphrey for two days recently in this same area.He went missing from Chatsworth Park I had posters up in Chatsworth Park, on the Tye, and in the Saltdean area. He was eventually found and caught in Rottingdean, There had been regular sightings within those two days.
The dog walking community here are amazing. I have passed on the word to many regulars that Spattee is missing and many people are looking for her. I have driven a wide area over the last couple of days, stopped and asked people on the street, but there have been no sightings sadly. There have not so far been any posters put up for Spattee. Unfortunately my printer isn't working, but I do feel posters are important if anyone can print some, I would be willing to drive around and put them up. I had huge response from posters with Humphrey.

Thanks k9shaz, I've advised admin so that can tell any callers. Good Luck !

Let me see if I can get the local radio stations on board.
Phari
Just got back and no sign, spoke to a few people and they hadn't seen her. There are no posters in the area so i'm guessing someone has pulled them down (which is common around here.). Will print some off and put them out at the market tomorrow and see if that helps.
Phari
Just going to take my rabble up to Chatsworth Park, if she is hiding in any of the bushes up there my lot will find her. I've asked neighbours who have dogs and walk different places to me but they haven't seen her. If she isn't found by the morning i will print off posters and leave at the local mini market. Hopefully someone might have spotted her.
Amanda i'm in Ambleside and as far as i can tell she hasn't wandered down here at all. Has anyone checked the sub station at the corner of Lincoln and Arundel? Not sure if there is a way in but a scared dog could find a way if they needed too.

Amanda, thanks for helping. Best thing is to take some smelly food with you - cheese, small sausages, that sort of thing. Owner says dog is not normally timid. I am afraid that it may have been injured and is holed up somewhere, perhaps in bushes/shrubs or in a vacant garage or garden.
The garage passageways are a good idea - can anyone local check these out on foot? Generally, if the dog were still roaming in streets close to home, it would have returned by now. Very worrying.
I have been up to the top end of the Tye, around the farmhouse & fields, along most of Saltdean and connecting areas with my dog this morning. No one has seen her.Last edited: 2012-11-02 14:18:37 by connorbrighton

In addition I have noticed that there are many garage areas with side passage ways next to them in lincoln Avenue which may be worth checking out.

Hi,
I live in Peacehaven and spoke to the owner last night who is upset and is going out again today. I have printed some posters and will put these up today. I will also endeavor to get some posters to the owner so she can put some up too. Am driving round the Lincoln Avenue area as much as possible on my travels. I wondered what the best course of action is if the dog runs away from people? Advice welcome!

Could local dog walkers please check Anchor Garage area, open ground near Badger's Watch pub, possibly down on the beach and park area south of South Coast Road?
connorbrighton
Spoke to owner this morning. Her correct landline number is 01273 582387. She still believes that dog is in local area, so advised her to stay home in case she comes back. Owner very tired and losing her voice now. Lots of locals are keeping an eye out. The dog is extremely friendly, usually not timid, but she possibly was hit by a car on 31/10 and is now scared. Spattee actually is not a wheelchair assistance dog, owner has two other dogs, one of which is training to be an assistance dog. Another person is printing posters to put up. Dog may be in the area of the Telscombe Texaco petrol station. Have looked on the Tye again - no sign. Could dog be on cliff side of road, sheltering in undergrowth, or have gone up towards Telscombe village?

Just got back from searching again. Spoke to lady who saw the dog this morning, it was running scared. I think too because it is a 'GSD' type, perhaps some people are wary of approaching her, although friendly. Asked Dustmen, Postman and Builders to keep a look out as well as any dog walkers who we saw. On the way back home stopped at Coastway Vets in Kemp Town to see if they had heard anything. They already had the dogs details from the owner but no more news.
Sootysue
Really hoping for good news soon. Will keep looking on the Tye etc and spread the word to other dog walkers. I live in East Saltdean.
connorbrighton
I am in Saltdean, will look out for her in all dog walking areas/downs around here and Rottingdean, also Telscombe Tye.
Kelly449ww
I am in Eastbourne...I have crossposted to my Facebook page and will add to www.biggsd.com lost dogs. Hoping there is a good outcome very soon.
LisaP
Owner contacted me this morning and is out looking. I have called Peacehaven Taxis and have asked them to keep a look out. Also called Meridian Vets who was aware of Spattee. Apparently a GSD type dog was seen this morning just after 8.00am but was too frightened to be caught. This was in LINCOLN AVENUE. Will update as soon as I hear anymore.
k9shaz
There has been a possible sighting at Arundel Road / Lincoln Ave. Nobody could catch the dog. Owner on her way there. It's not far from owner's house so this is a good prospect. If anyone local can help, please get there. Thanks.Last edited: 2012-11-01 10:56:16 by k9shaz

Just got back from searching area but weather conditions weren't helping....Owner will call me tomorrow and if needed I will go back over there with her. Just hoping that some kind person has picked her up and will take to vets tomorrow as they might not even know if she has been injured.
DogLostJulie - Area Co-ordinator - Surrey & South London
So hoping she is soon found it is a good suggestion from Tobys Mum that she may not be far away just hiding up with the shock of being knocked by the van. With all good wishes for finding her very soon. Julie x
Tobys Mum
If she was hit by a van, she may not have travelled far from that spot but merely be hiding injured. Do you know the spot that she may have been hit by the van? Please check nearby there......maybe with another dog who could do some scenting. Poor Spattee, I do hope she is found soon.
