It is with a very heavy heart that I am updating you to say that Holly has crossed to Rainbow Bridge. Her body has been found near the tunnels in Mossley, thought possible washed through by the recent rains. My heart goes out to Holly's family who never gave up that one day they would find out what happened to Holly and at least now they have closure. Holly has been buried not far from where she was found.

Many thanks to Owl and Wispa for coming over to help in the search and to the countless DogLost helpers and local people who helped spread the word and search for weeks.

RIP sweet girl, run free at Rainbow Bridge...so sorry we couldn't bring you home xxx

Just spoke to the Tameside Dog Warden and it wasn't Holly. The dog was found and returned to its owner who lived locally.

Many thanks for reporting the sighting PFD79, its good to know that people are still looking out for Holly :)
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Still trying to get hold of the family. Now added the sighting and home number of the family. Kaydee has been to the area and managed to get some posters up, she will be going back this afternoon to ask around the businesses.

The Millpond is in the Stalybridge town centre, surely more people will have seen the dog yesterday. I am going to ring the Tameside Dog Warden to see if they have had any other reports.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thank you PFD79, that is great. Just got in so too late to ring now but will try and contact Holly's owners tomorrow to let them know. We obviously need posters in that area. The last time Owl visited, Wispa was taking us further up the canal from Mossley, heading towards Stalybridge and as you know the canal goes right passed The Millpond. Will try to get down there myself tomorrow afternoon. Thank you.
PFD79
My mum just told me she saw a collie-type dog in Stalybridge near The Millpond pub earlier today (about 3pm). She doesn't have the dog and she said it looked slightly grayer than Holly does on the picture but it had a bald spot on the dogs left side near it's tail which made me think of the posters I've seen of Holly around Carrbrook and on Facebook (she did say it looked well nourished however). She's tried to phone the number but it says the messages are full and we don't know how else to let you know. Fingers crossed. xLast edited: 2012-11-12 18:03:43 by PFD79

Dog possibly fitting Hollys description seen around Bolton road, Pendlebury M27 (Near Mcdonalds) has been seen not 100% it was her, but described as lloking like hollys pic but older, and blind, Person who sighted the dog did try for well over an hour but every time he got near the dog snapped at him

Hi - I have been following the comments about Holly and have met up with Duncan when he has been out looking. I have printed some posters and will be placing them the other side of Scout around Roaches lock. I have also sent some up to Greenfield via a friend who lives by the canal, just in case she has moved furhter up the canal.
DogLostOwl
We did find a place near one of the fishing ponds where people had left a lot of waste food and scraps. I think Holly is scavenging anything she can and isn't fussy about eating carrion. There was strong scent around the first fishing pond we got to, the one with the big wall and walkway at one end. Wispa was so keen to follow it that I nearly took a dive into the pond!
Duncan
Hello, and thanks again for everything you are doing, especially to Wispa because at least we know Holly's general location. I've been looking on Google Earth at places in the surrounding area and will be out tomorrow (Thursday). Going off what I've read of today's search, I think I'll be down the Grove Road and Spring Bank Lane areas, but I am scratching my head at how she'd have been feeding herself.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Sadly no news :( From Cheshire St (Plevins), Wispa took us past the pallet yard (sighting on Friday), through Kershaw Hey Farm to Scout Tunnel on the canal, then we followed the canal to the double lock and then went into the woodlands, past the Carrbrook Angling Club ponds and onto Crowswood Drive. Looks like holly may be moving away from the Micklehurst area.
Julie B
I really hope that you find Holly safe and well very soon. You are all working so hard to find her - you are all amazing people x

Keeping fingers tightly crossed that Holly is safely back home soon.
Its good news that she's been sighted recently. Come on sweetheart, let somebody help you get back to your family xx
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Duncan that is fantastic news, at last!! Just the incentive we need. So this still leaves us in the area where Wispa took us, behind Plevins, stretching from the river/canal to the cemetery. Great to see you posting on here, makes things so much easier to keep our helpers updated and for them to know that the search for Holly is still going on. Keep getting the posters up, we need more sightings and more awareness so if someone sees her they will ring with the info or even better get hold of her.
Duncan
Hello. Wanted to say again how much we appreciate what you are doing to help us find Holly. We've all been out and have concentrated on the area which Wispa led us to last week. Wanted to let you know that after speaking to people in the area, that a sighting of a very old border collie HAS been made, on Friday 5th October on the stretch of canal immediately behind the pallet yard and also by one of the locks before Scout Tunnel.Last edited: 2012-10-09 00:20:01 by Duncan

Not had chance to update but yesterday a few of us were out searching. We again search Kershaw Hey Farm, every allotment and stables we could find, Mossley Cemetery and the areas that connect these with Plevins and the river and canal. quite a few posters put up and handed out, including prime position (the bar) at both Stamford Golf Club and Micklehurst Cricket Club. Come on Holly, where are you?
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thanks jollyloluk, is it 'Jill' http://strayaction.com/detail.php?d=2&w=0&id=4593

If it is, sadly its not Holly, far too much white but thank you so much for looking out for her :)

Thank you Duncan.

Another piece of info has come to light, a sighting believed to be of Holly the day she went missing. She was crossing a road just up the hill from the part of Micklehurst which Wispa brought us to.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Many thanks to Duncan, Holly's owner. Just spotted a thank you letter in this weeks Tameside Advertiser.

"I wanted to extend my appreciation to all those who have been out looking for my dog Holly, a very, very old black and white border collie who was lost on Castle Lane on Wednesday September 26th and also to Doglost UK who have been a massive help with the search.

That people, strangers as well as neighbours, could be so kind and put themselves out the way they have is truly fantastic and I cannot thank you enough"

MANY MANY thanks from me too to all the helpers who have joined in the search, got the posters out and help to spread awareness of Holly, you are all STARS. We need to find this little girl, she's been out far too long.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thanks for the text earlier AnnieSparky and for checking at Leigh for Holly. Sadly its not her, not enough white on her face or front legs.

Phebe(Owl) and Wispa were over again to help out in the search. Wispa picked up the scent at Raja Brothers on the corner of Staley Road and took us to farm behind Plevins, think its Kershaw Hey Farm. I left a poster with the family on Tuesday but called again, still no sightings of Holly by them but they were very helpful and let us cross and search their land.

Wispa then took us around the edge of the links of Stamford Golf Club and back down to the canal that leads up from Egmont Street where we were on Sunday. Wispa has done a fantastic job and everywhere she has taken us leads back to the land at the back of Plevins, stretching from the cemetary to the canal (Scout Green). Posters are being put up in the area by the family, myself and Alison of Animal Assistance, thank you :) Hoping the posters will bring in some sightings.

There is another search for Holly tomorrow. Phebe and Wispa the tracker dog are coming over to join us. If anyone is available to help with the search tomorrow, starting around 11.30 in the Micklehurst area please leave me a message on here. All welcome but no dogs please as they can be a hindrance in a scent search. Thanks :)

Could found dog ID 43584 be Holly (says can be a little snappy when trying to catch)
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Was out searching this afternoon for a couple of hours. I managed to get a few posters up around the area but it was raining quite heavily and had difficulty finding suitable places. Spoke to quite a few of the business' in the area and left posters with them. I searched the area behind the cemetery and left a poster with the ground staff. A friend of mine who has far better local knowledge than I have took me to the back of Plevins and around the canal and river, right up to where it connected at the back of the cemetery. Lots of places Holly could be hiding and this area definitely needs revisiting. Also left a poster with Kershaw Hey Cottage, quite remote but not that far from the back of Plevins. A friend of mine also walked the canal from Carrbrook to Mossley.

Unable to search tomorrow but planning to be out there again on Thursday of anyone is able to join me?
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester

Jackalee - I knew you were out - so I did email them earlier - they just responded to say the dog was reunited before they got there, so I assume it was probably a local dog :(
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Yes, just been to the Animal Warden website and seen it is reunited. I've been at dog training all night and only just come on line. Thanks for the text alert kaydee :)

We will be out searching for Holly again tomorrow afternoon and getting lots of posters up in the area. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thanks skippy, its about 7 miles. Probably not possible for Holly but definitely possible is someone has picked her up and taken her home. The Animal Wardens usually register the dog from where they pick them up from, not necessarily where the dog was found. They won't answer the phone now but will send them an email for them to reply first thing in the morning, fingers crossed :)

I agree, so many places to search. Unfortunately I can't get down there today but I will ring Plevins and a few of the other business' we passed along the route this afternoon and ask them if we can have a look around the yard tomorrow. Tomorrow I will head down there and follow the route Wispa took us yesterday, have a good mooch round. We need posters in the area and I have asked the family to try and organise them asap and we will start getting them up.

If anyone one is in the Micklehurst/bottom Mossley area please keep an eye out for Holly, any posters would be a great help, thanks.
DogLostOwl
We were very lucky yesterday that the predicted rain held off until the afternoon. Because there had been so much rain previously, much of the ground scent had gone. Wispa could only get it where it had stuck to the undersides of leaves and vegetation along the paths and had to rely on air scent for the rest of the time, so we could only indicate an area rather than following the trail to find Holly. There are a lot of nooks and crannies and odd bits of scrub and woodland round the area of Plevins which need to be checked out.
Andi
Hope someone who works around there has perhaps taken her in and is keeping her safe - fingers crossed xx
AnnieSparky
You've all worked so hard searching for Holly. Must have been amazing to watch Wispa. Makes you wonder if someone in Plevins yard has taken Holly in......hopefully the posters going up will work their magic! Fingers crossed xx
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thank you AnnieSparky for looking out for Holly :)

Well what a day! I had the great pleasure of meeting Phebe and the famous and gorgeous Wispa who came down for the day to help in the search of Holly. I was amazed, we had been concentrating all our efforts close to the area of where Holly went missing, I think we must have searched every inch of the Clough.

Wispa had other ideas and immediately led us up Castle Lane and right over the hill into Micklehurst and through Squire Mill/Vale Mill, onto Micklehurst Road and down to the bottom, past Raja Brothers and to the gates of Plevins Waste Management on Cheshire Street. Plevins was shut and the gates bolted so we were unable to check the yard but clever Wispa then picked up the scent again on Egmont Street, through the playing fields, over the canal and River Tame and we ended up back at the boundary of Plevins. Wispa did this a couple of times and we then realised we had completely circled Plevins yard. Holly may not be there now but she has definitely been there at some point. We then headed up Staley Road and Wispa took us to Mossley Cemetary and behind where the allotments are. Wispa had been going for over 2 hours at this point and was getting very tired so we called it a day.

Wispa has given us an area in which to continue our search and the next step is to search Plevins yard (its big) and get posters up in the area, make enquiries with the businesses at Squire/Vale Mill. I am hoping that someone will have seen Holly on her travels. Anyone who knows the area will know that this is not a great distance and over a 4 day period possible even for an old girl like Holly, plodding a little every day. If anyone lives in this area, we need posters up everywhere so any help would be very much appreciated.

A MASSIVE thank you to Phebe and Wispa for coming over, its been a great help. I was fascinated watching Wispa work. It was lovely to finally meet you both xx

Just returned from another morning searching for Holly, still no sign of her so far. Many thanks to kaydee, Vicki, Angela, Tiggs and Alison for helping out in the search its very much appreciated :)

Its a complete mystery at the moment where Holly has gone. The area around Castle Lane has now been searched extensively, leaflets handed out and most villagers know that Holly is missing.

We will finally have a photo this afternoon. The family are visiting Manchester Dogs Home this afternoon.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thanks for looking neddcwebmaster :)

I still haven't got a photo, maybe tonight but if not I will be adding a similar photo to enable email alerts to go out.

Quite a few of us were out searching for Holly this morning. passing leaflets out to everyone we saw. Most people are aware Holly is missing. Between us we managed to search along part of the Carr Brook into the Clough and also checked out some of the embankments, Castle Lane, Cowbury Green and Dale up to and including the reservoir, round and behind the farm. So many people are out searching for her while they are out with their own dogs, which is great :)

Spoke to the owner earlier and gave further advise and told him about the search as he wasn't able to make it this morning. I also spoke to the Tameside Dog Warden who is fully aware of Holly and will contact us if he hears anything.
