  • Other Info I passed by just after this dog was involved in an RTA at 19.15. Young man was on phone to council, says he reported it and that the council would pick up the body in the am. I asked him to contact police and he said the RSPCA had told him to call the council. I could see brown and black. Had a red collar on, no tag. The man thought it was a mongrel.

thanks ruzep for your reply. it certainly is strange about the collar. i was just concerned as you hear of dogs who run after being hit and then drop but obviously not in this case. if he/she was behind a tree it is unlikely another passer by would'nt have spotted the dog and stopped. poor dog.
ruzep
dewilliams42 - I honestly think this dog was killed outright. There is no way he was alive when I saw him. Sorry to say, poor darling. And no, he wasn't collected. It's a bizarre story for sure. The only thing I can think of is that the boys were local who ran him over and may have found the owner who collected him. But that doesn't account for the collar which was there but appeared to have been cut off.:(
dewilliams42
did anyone find out whether this poor dog had been collected. i feel concerned it may have dragged itself away into the bushes.
ruzep
This dog had longer legs, I am 100% sure this is not Sooty
DogLostBeezle
Has anyone checked this dog is not Sooty, 43133?

dewilliams42
was the poor dog definately killed or could it have dragged itself out of sight? sometimes they do.
ruzep
I thought of foxes but I think there would have been some remains or a sign of dragging? There was neither. It was hard to see what kind of dog it was, it was getting dark and I saw the dog as I drove past on the road then turned round and drove back. The boy picked it up by its 4 paws and dumped it behind a tree:(. My impression was that it was a young dog, sleek, black with tan, short smooth haired. My impression was that it was a mongrel or if it was a pedigree it could have been a doberman puppy. Sorry I can't be any more use than that. Sorry I had to break off Nadine but my grandson is staying!

Horrible thought, but does anyone else think it possible that a fox or two would have taken the dog's body?Last edited: 2012-09-21 19:41:48 by ClaireC

Hello Ruzep... it was nice to speak with you just now. Shereen, I can confirm that this is not Rocky and I have let Rocky's mum know. Ruzep describes this dog as having longish legs, smooth coat and more similar to a Manchester Terrier... can they sometimes be mistaken for Dobermans?

Hello Ruzep... I have just spoken with Ken at West Berkshire Council and he confirms that they definately have not picked up this doggie, bizzare that he has vanished. I am trying to determine if this poor deceased doggie is Rocky ID 42171 and wonder if you would be kind enough to take a look at his dear little face? My number if you wish to call me is 07867 540301, I will be speaking with Lisa the owner again later today. She is very unwell currently. x
ruzep
Have just called the dog warden again and they say it def wasn't them who picked up the dog. V odd indeed. Who would take a body of a dog? It wasn't just by the road, it was slightly off in the woods.

Thank you for the update Shereen; sigh of relief to know this poor dog isnt Teddy or the other missing GSD..............it was the colour and red collar that worried me.

THANK YOU !
ruzep
I called the dog warden for W berkshire yesterday am and informed her. As I feared, they had not had a report of it. They said they MAY go out and pick up the dog; I went a bit later back to the site to check the breed out. There was no sign of the dog, just some blood on the leaves and road and the red plastic collar which appeared to have been cut off which I brought home with me. I can only assume that the council collected the dog.I had a call from Paul (?) re the missing GSD in RG7 and I assured him that the dog I saw was smooth haired, quite slight, black with brown markings.Last edited: 2012-09-21 07:34:19 by ruzep
Shereen
This has already been checked out...this is definitely not a german shepherd! So not Teddy or the dog lost from Burfield RG7 on 18 Aug
Jill "GSD lady" Murfin
very concerned as to the identity of this dog and i am wondering Teddy??? I so hope that this one isnt Teddy but she was wearing a red collar . . . and she is chipped so i presume time will identify if the council scan for a chip ??? I havent contacted Sam - Teddy's owner yet - but Teddy did go missing from the RG9 area and this has to be close by................that was last December aswell so quite a time ago.............Teddy 35377 from RG9 area is there anyway anyone from here can check this out on Sam's behalf with the chip details to begin with?? Please................she is really down at the moment and having to do this will just make life unbearable for her. Thank you !

pollydog, the GSD was lost 18th Aug, not sept! But obviously there is still the possibility of being same dog if same area.
