I have started circulating on FB on both my own page and others. Jenny, I will send you some advice/info via email and contact you later. I think the key here is to start marking all sightings on a map, see if we can anticipate Abels next move and to get posters up far and wide to try to bring in further sightings.

My sister is at that wedding today. I will txt her to keep a lookout.

The sighting of a white dog in Dalton near the Brown Cow Inn may well have been Tess as she is white and blue and lives not far from there.
We are going to concentrate on the last positive sighting area, which was around midnight on Friday at the junction of Rating Lane and Abbey Road. It was reported a white dog was seen there heading in the direction of the hospital or Dalton. That junction is quite a way from Rising Side so Abel running at speed would be tired by now. At the junction he might not turn left because that would have been back into the noise of the fireworks. However, most greyhounds run in an anti-clockwise direction because of the tracks, so going left is a possible. We think he would have gone right onto Abbey Road as this is towards Dalton. Here is a link to Google Earth of the area I'm about to describe. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl . If he got hit by a vehicle but not killed he would look for somewhere to hide to recover. We need to look under the bushes and in the long grass along this road. Abbey Road at this point is walled off until you get to an arched Gatehouse, which has no gates and a road going under it. It would be the first place he would come across to hide and rest or recover. At the back of this arched gatehouse is a lot of outbuildings and rough land. This area from the arched gatehouse leading up to the grounds of the Abbey Hotel and across to Furness Abbey is all fenced in so if he went through that arch the chances are he will still be in there somewhere unless he got himself onto one of the other two tracks leading a) to the hotel or, b) to Furness Abbey.
Abbey Hotel has kindly given us permission to seach their 14 acres of grounds, but NOT today as they have a large wedding starting at 12 noon and going through into the night. I repeat NOT today, but tomorrow is fine. However, there will be a lot of hotel staff milling around the grounds because of the wedding and they have been asked to keep an eye out for Abel. They have my phone number (015395 52394) should he be sighted.
The other area near the Gatehouse is all chained off with warning notices to keep out (we are looking into this) and when you go through the arched gate house there is a lot of land there. If he was injured he would seek a hiding place not far from the entrance, depending upon how bad he was hurt. We need to search this area to the left and to the right as you go through the arched gatehouse. If anyone is stopped please take their name and ring ME so I can explain who we are and what we are trying to do. If this fails we will seek the help of a person in uniform to help us gain access. The pathways/track/road from the arched gatehouse leads up towards Abbey Hotel, down to the Gatehouse and onto the road next to Furness Abbey. These are NOT blocked off so he could have walked along anyone of these and nipped into the woods and land alongside them. If you can help in anyway please do. It is very worrying not having a positive sighting since midnight on Friday. Thank you.
As well as being on facebook as Jenny Stott we have just set up a Twitter account called @southlakesrgt Please follow us on Twitter and re-tweet for me.
Thank you.

PLEASE, PLEASE can everyone go on their Facebook friends list and search by 'current city' then type in either Barrow in Furness, Dalton in Furness, Askham, Ulverston or indeed any other town in the South Lakes that is listed on Facebook and place on their friends wall or comment page a link to this page, so the word gets round about Abel missing to as many people as we can. Please, please, can you do this for us.

The last positive sighting was at the junction of Ratting Lane and Abbey Road heading in the direction of Dalton in Furness. However, from that junction, there are a number of places he could go right or left off Abbey Road

Abel was spotted last night approaching the hospital and Furness Abbey area in Barrow in Furness. There was a reported sighting of a large white dog in the cemetary this morning. We have one or two people looking for him there, but the cemetary is huge, has loads of rabbits and very long grass. There is also a playing field nearby, which someone is looking in, but so far no one has spotted him. He is easily recognisable with being mostly white and the hi-vis collar shown on the picture is the one he's wearing, which has a name tag for the RGT branch on and his fosterer's telephone numbers.

Abel came into the rescue branch on the 20th June so hasn't been in foster care with Pauline very long. He is a very friendly and approachable dog, but is more than likely quite frightened and insecure, so we are not sure how he will react - whether he would come to you or run away.
clairesdog
Would he be likely to let a stranger approach him?
