R.I.P Treacle. xx

Another lost to the railways - far too many lately. I am so very sorry, and my thoughts are with the family at this awful time, and also for the anguish and heartbreak they have suffered unnecessarily over the past week since dear Treacle went missing. Run free at the bridge, lovely Treacle xx
zen
RIP BEAUTIFUL TREACLE, so sorry for your family, yet another totally unacceptable mistake by network rail....
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
All they had to do was call the number on the collar, or call the number on a poster. These people are used to this work; it is what they do. If kind rail workers can do it, when its not their job, then the people whose job it is should do it. So upset for Treacle's family, having to go go through this added trauma, so unnecessarily. Treacle is now safe. My thoughts are with her and her family. x

I'm so very sorry you didn't make it home little one. Rest in Peace. xx
I too am saddened by the way Treacle and her family have been failed by Network Rail.
Amanja
@Bungecat69, I am sure we all agree that the aftermath of a rail collision is something none of us would want to have to deal with and can understand why the NR contractors would want to bring it to a swift conclusion. Frustrating, considering it the job they are contracted to do, but understandable.
I think the anger, and consequent critical comments, come more from the fact Treacle was reported as missing, in the exact location she was hit, within a couple of hours. NR were aware and had removed her and arranged for her to be cremated by the end of the day. Yet, despite repeated phone calls they continued to assure Treacle's owner there had been no accidents on that stretch of the line for 6 days. 6 days of the family looking for her, postering and hoping she was safe somewhere or worrying she was either injured or being mistreated somewhere. They only connected the dots when Sheila demanded either to be allowed down on to the line herself to check, or for them to send someone out to do it. Then they came back with the feedback that, exactly where she had said Treacle went missing, 10 minutes after she went missing, a train had hit a dog that looked just like her.
It really is frustration borne of them not following what they state are their procedures, namely that they make every effort to identify the dog, to allow the owner to collect the body and can confirm to owners when they call if there has in fact been an accident.
Sorry, don't mean to come off like a lecturer, just very sad and disappointed on Treacle's family's behalf.Last edited: 2012-06-19 15:56:21 by Amanja

I am so sorry to hear your news,I had been thinking about your family and dog throughout. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I have 3 dogs and cannot imagine it. Love and best wishes to you all.
I would just say though, it's easy to criticise British Rail but it may have been very difficult to identify her if she was severely injured..:-(
Tigermouse
I'm so so sorry to read about little Treacle, my sympathy and condolences go to you and your family. Please take comfort in knowing there's another little angel safe in God's arms and she'll be watching over you from above.

Network Rail once again insensitive, uncaring and unprofessional...
skippy
So sorry to hear this news. Run free little girl!.

Yet again network rail have some questions to answer. :(

Am so very, very sorry to hear this sad news - having dealt with Network Rail in Badger's story, I am furious again to see they are such heartless, cruel people who do not follow the procedure they claim to. Sheila and family, please accept our condolences and know that Treacle is now running free, running safely, with the sun on her back and a breeze on her face. RIP Treacle xxx
poshbird

I am so terribly, terribly sorry. Sheila, you listened to the advice given and acted upon it, Treacle is so glad you found her. She doesn't worry about her body, as that is just dust, but her spirit, her soul, is alive and can soar. You are correct; she would not have known anything. God takes his special babies sooner than we would like and in some very strange ways, but I believe it is because they have already earnt their wings. I know how hard this is to bear, but you have to get through for Treacle. I guarantee you, Treacle is fine now, safe in God's arms as he was there to catch her. I so wish it could have been a different outcome. I have no answers, but you have to trust there was a reason. When I lost my Cassie, my friend said maybe there was something wrong with her that we never knew about and maybe it was God's way of taking her quickly so she didn't have to suffer. You just never know. What I do know, with all my heart, is that loved ones never leave you, they just have wings to fly. Reach out for her; she'll be there. She is just a whisper away, until you meet again - together forever. She is no longer lost. She can rest peacefully while she watches over you from above. God bless you precious Treacle; my Cassie and Badger will look after you. God bless you Sheila, may your hearts know peace. xxx
Amanja
Sheila, got your VM and text. We were out having a meal and then postering in Newnham and Rotherwick. I am so incredibly sorry for you, glad Treacle did not suffer and furious with Network Rail for putting you through days of not knowing by not advising you as soon as they found her. There is just no decent excuse.
Nothing anyone says is really going to make you feel better, so I won't try, but please know that in the Laing household we are thinking of you.

Hi all ,sadly yes . I was waiting to speak to mandi before I posted . After a challenging call with network rail this morning , someone called me back to say she was killed on Tuesday at 1315 . This was mins after she jumped the fence . They had already cremated her ! No one told me until today . So we are all heart broken but at least we know she didn't suffer and we know what has happened to her . I want to thank you all for being so wonderful and supportive . My faith in human nature has been strengthened by this experience so I suppose you could say something good came from it . Thank you so much you have made this sad time more bearable . Kindest regds Sheila & family x

Has this now been confirmed poor baby ?xxxx
ellenby75
I have just been contacted by my manager from the Millstones. I hope she has been mis informed but she said that she was told Treacle has been hit by a train some days ago & owner's were not notified. Can anybody confirm this sad news please?
poshbird
i think getting the gazzette to run an ad is a great idea ,they did this for the missing jrt holly and ran it for weeks without charging the owner,if treacle has been 'taken' this ad in the gazzette would hopfully make her too hot to handle she is a unique breed of dog so people would be more alert ..
GraceyBear
Just a suggestion - ask the Gazette to run a piece for you, asking for people to look out for neighbours aquiring a new dog matching Treacle's description and also appealing to local train drivers to watch the track. Also contact Kestrel FM, I'm sure they'd add something to their website for you. It's also worth postering the public houses along the route between Basingstoke and Hook. Also check to see if these villages have a community facebook page you can send a message to, which they will share.
Jackson
Hi all been around mill today , basing house etc . Placed more posters , will keep lookinng and calling the authorities . It's so-strange that there has been no sightings . Thanks to all for your wonderful support .sheila
ellenby75
Just another thought Sheila..... I work in the Millstone's & on Wed's we called out the RSPCA for the Swan (Ernie) He looked abit tattered & they said he had more than likely been in a fight. I know you have already called the Millstone in the week & I have been looking around there but there's lots of area's you can't get to on foot down the back garden along the River. I beleive it runs right down to Hillier's. Try calling the Millstone again. Ask to speak to Jenny, Mike Or Ray & you can say Iv sent you (sheila) Ask if you can go down the area where Paulo's Pigeons used to be. There is also a Field next door with Some Lambs & pigs which must lead to somewhere. Im just thinking if Treacle made it over the fence & also the track's, she may be in that middle spot. Id hate to think the swan would have hurt her but he is very territorial will attack a dog. Im about all morning so if you would like me to meet you down there, id be more than happy to help. x
Jackson
Thank you, we have been all down the sidea of the railway and have around where you describe
More posters tommrow I really think some has her . I
Called the police and he checked the records ,no dogs reported we will keep. Trying

Tjx again Sheila

Hi Tiffany & Sheila & poshbird. The alley I mean is the 1 down by the Viaduct. If you go to the Millstone pub & walk along the river bank until your at the bridge. 1 end is there. It takes you up behind the houses in Bexmoor way & you come out in the little culdesac called Bexmoor. Hope this helps.
poshbird
hi tiffany will contact lady again and ask her to clarify re the alley
Jackson
Hey it's Tiffany sheilas daughter, I think I know where you mean but could you please clarify where dog shit alley is? Is on the one that runs along in view of the playground. I know it's quite a long /wide field. Again thanks for all your advice and help it means so much xxx
Amanja
Sheila, good luck today. Hope someone sees her today.Did you manage to persuade anyone to canvas and give flyers to the train drivers at Basingstoke station? Or is there anyone reading Treacle's story who would be able to help out? Basically we need people to go to Basingstoke station and go to the drivers of all the trains that stop in the station, give them one if Treacle's flyer and ask them to keep their eyes open for her. Anyone have a couple of hours they could spare?
I sent out 50 emails last night and will be back on the case tonight. Will be in touch tmrw, as we'll be back in town and can get out looking and postering with you.
Fingers crossed.
Mandi

Hi all someone I know via facebookm is having trouble logging on she is in old basing and has been out looking and wanted to post this ........

Hi Tracy, Iv been trying to get onto doglost tonight re little tracle but thinks iv buggered passwords up Iv had a good look all around the Millstone again today & into some of the sheds out the back. Also around Basing house carpark but sadly no sign. There is also what's known as 'dog shit alley' (pardon) A few weeks back 1 of the millstones customer's dog got trapped in there. Its horrible shitty sludge stuff which runs along the railway tracks. There's a wired fence but The regulars dog got in from the bottom of the fence. If anybody has some waders it's worth a good look & id be happy to go in myself. Don't seem to be able to sleep at night with this little girl on my mind xx
Jackson
Thank you . Next we will put more posters up in hook and do train station. Please if anyone has found a wheaten terrier and is keeping her ,please return her . We have a younger dog ho is pining for her . We will be looking around old basing and hook tommrow . Who ever reads this please keep a look out . If you have any out houses or allotment sheds in old basing please can you check them thank you Sheila

Graceybear, I have spoken to Admin and alerts are going out today on a number of dogs, but please can you check you have ticked the box on your registration details, to say you want to receive alerts? Sometimes this is why, if not you should receive it. If you don't please let us know. Thank you. x
Shereen
Jackson,Just read your post that you have contacted the vets , police , railway , RSPCA ...just to double check with you that you HAVE contacted your local counci (and surrounding councils) to make the local dog warden aware...when you speak to them though,if you can get them to go over their records right back to the date Treacle went missing (while your on the phone!),just incase she has been reported as found but the finders could be hanging on to her till her owners are found?...different staff ,different day and all that!
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
I have requested alerts again. They are backed up at mo, but will be done asap. It is the drivers of the trains you need to work on. They are the people that would know more than anyone as they can see higher than others and may have heard rumours about a dog. Network Rail doesn't, I repeat doesn't, get logs for most dogs on the lines so they will not know. You must keep on at them to check the lines. On and on and on! Even if you are met with a rubbish response, everyone needs to help you by making this baby too to hot to ignore! The railways must be your focus as you need to rule it out. If Treacle is outside the railways she will be seen at some point and you have posters up. Can I suggest that you ALL call Network Rail and make a nuisance of yourselves, this is often the only way they help, sadly. They may pay lip service but you need action. Come on precious, show us where you are? xxxLast edited: 2012-06-15 10:24:34 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Thought I should mention, and I've double checked this morning, I live in RG24 and I didn't get my alert. It's only because I always scan for local postcodes that I picked up on Treacle. Could alerts be re-sent.
Jackson
Hi Im sheila's daughter, just to say thank you so much everyone for your help and advice it means so much! thanks to all!! xxxx
Jackson
Thank you all for your help . I will call rail track again today and ask them to look again . Thank you for all your suggestions and help . We will keep doing everything you suggest .sheila x

poshbird
Jus another though Im not sure where that track leads... Don't think it's the Reading line, Maybe Hook.Every village inbetween is worth a poster if there is any made up as yet?
poshbird

Hi, I am talking to Mandi to try and help you find Treacle. If necessary, you may have to try and get a rail worker to walk along the lines for you. Do not worry about her lying injured; I don't think that would be the case. Is there anywhere she could get out from there? If you have trouble getting a rail worker to help, tell Mandi and leave a post on here for us. Have given Mandi some suggestions for you to try tomorrow. Your local coordinator can help you and I will liaise with Mandi. x
Jackson
Many thanks my number is 07880786521 many thanks again Sheila
Amanja
Sheila, have put Treacle's details on FB and asked people to share. Am asking others on here with experience of dealing with Network Rail for advice. I'll call you tomorrow. Which number would be better to get you on?
Mandi
Jackson
Hi mandi thank you so much for your help . We have told the vets , police , railway , RSPCA , sent emails . People in the village are spreading the word . We have put posters round the village and tommrow we will do al local shops , doctors , dentists etc . Can you tell me any rescue / dog pounds in the area . I will also look on the Internet . The problem is if she s injured where she jumped over we can get to look because of restrictions . I will call network rail again tommorow . Than you again at least I feel like we 're not alone Sheila
Amanja
Sheila, so sorry Treacle is missing.
Can I ask, other than speak to the railways, who else have you contacted and have you put posters up? Whether Treacle is out missing, or is being looked after by someone (who, to give them the benefit of the doubt may not realise they are looking after a much loved pet and may think they have just taken a stray dog in :-{), you need to poster, poster, poster to raise awareness that she is missing. The more you poster, the more people will look out on your behalf, even if they are not officially 'searching' for her.
So, can you let us know who you have contacted and also if you have postered and where. There is much discussion on dogs getting onto railways at the moment, so if there is anyone reading this who has an suggestion on if there is anything Sheila should be doing, please, please, wade in.
I am away tomorrow and Saturday (and hopefully she will be back by Sunday, fingers crossed), but will have access to the internet, so I can email vets, rescues, pounds etc. However, I think the rescues and the pounds also need to be called, because it seems, from reading on this website, that emails (and sometimes even phone calls) don't elicit an accurate response. You may need to visit them.
Another thought (apologoies for this brain dump, I've just got in from work and am typing this as I'm making dinner!), has the Basingstoke dog warden been advised?
Mandi
Jackson
Hi thanks for this . She went missing on Tuesday around 1pm . She was in my dog walkers garden in churn close old basing and she jumped the fence onto the railway . The railway have no reported accidents and said they will notify us if they get any news . She maybe hurt as the fence was very high with barbed wire . She is a nervous dog but lovely . Maybe she is somewhere near the railway hurt . We keep going out and looking but so far nothing . I wonder if someone has kept her . We will offer a reward to get her back as we are all very very upset . Any help is welcome . Thank you Sheila
Amanja
Can you let us know what happened? Did she run away, or do you think she has been taken? Have you got any more info that you share with us so we can help you to find Treacle?
