That farmer has earned himself some karma for imagining the owners' distress and thinking it more important than his chickens! Very few would think that way - he must have lost a dog in the past himself. All the more touching that they are elderly and disabled - imagine how they must feel now :)
Di
Aaaah - well done that farmer - and welcome home Rocky

Dogtopia, that is fab news and thank you to Matt. Our problem is that owners are disabled and unable to do much themselves, so we really need helpers and the public on board. That would be fantastic. Thank you so much, Dogtopia. x

Me again!! I've just spoken to a lovely guy at the Thurrock Gazette called Matt. I've asked him if he can do a story on Rocky and how is has evaded capture for 2.5 months to get better publicity. He thinks he may be able to do something!! Brilliant news!! Matt will be coming on here to gather some info and hopefully get the 50,000 households in Thurrock to keep their eyes peeled!!
Hi Matt ;-) and thanks.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
This can be done, but as you say we need another sighting. Posters are really the key here, but we need people to put them up. Well done Dogtopia, you are great. x
DogtopiaPetServices
Have just called the Bell Inn, which is a restuarant in Horndon. They have no sightings but will call me if he appears
DogtopiaPetServices
I've justed called the Koi shop on Brooklands Farm and spoke to a guy who saw Rocky around 3/4 weeks ago. He and 2 ladies tried to catch him but he shot off on to the main road and RIGHT towards Horndon on the Hill village. There have been no more sighting of him in the farm (business park). I have a couple of customers that live in Horndon and a friend who owns a lorry repair yard 'somewhere up there'. I will contact these people and ask them to pass word around and keep an eye out. He is now petrified of humans so it's going to be a tough one but if we can establish WHERE is is staying for more than a day then maybe a trap will be his saviour.

Last sighting was at Brooklands farm, Horndon. owners number is 01268 555377. Owner is disabled so we need to get some posters up in this area please.
Di
Horndon sprawls a bit - can the owner advise if there is a specific area ? It would really help if we could get some info on any fresh sightings as soon as there are any, else it's like the needle/haystack, sadly.
dogzr4me
im in ss15 but printer is broke anything else i can do?

Just a thought, phone the AA, Automobile Association that is, they have patrols working and driving around these areas all day, they would Inform of any sightings,
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Wonderful news! Thank you Dogtopia. We really need some people who will print off posters and put them all around that area he was sighted. This is the only way we can really get a grip on where he is and what to do next. We do need 100's of posters up. Maybe if elderly/disabled owners can rally all friends and family and maybe some helpers on here can assist as well. We have so many dogs going missing in the SS & RM areas that we are a bit thin on the ground, but sister in law, could you try to gather up some helpers to poster for sweet Rocky please. Also Dog Warden needs to be notified, if not already done so. We will all do the bext we can. Excellent news. Let's get sweet Rocky home!x Last edited: 2012-08-16 20:29:23 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Sadly the info was wrong. Rocky isn't home but there has been a possible sighting of him in Horndon on the Hill a couple of weeks ago. I have asked the sister in law to update on here and for the owner to reposter the areas he has been seen.
Can we please bump to page one?

I have heard that Rocky is home. I will call the owners family member tomorrow to confirm.

OOPS! , we don't seem to be having much luck, communication wise, Bas DW, do we!? I have left my contact no. now at your office. Will keep the bagged items till Mon eve, unless you phone me. It will have been almost a week since the bitch sat firmly on them though.
Does anyone know if there's a trap in place and if so, where it's sited? Postcode/Google map ref useful, as I could take towels there tomorrow, Sat.
Dog WardenBasildon DW
Hi CopperM, I do not appear to have recieved any messages regarding the towels. I have recieved a call today to say that Rocky has been seen on driveways on the houses near the club during the night. No exact location. I am unavailable to look this weekend.
Di
Well done again, CopperM x

You're in luck! Towels bagged and DW texted...

Thank you CopperM. Would you be able to leave a message about that on the Basidon DW's number? She may see that quicker, if you haven't already washed them :-) Many thanks. x

Possible sighting phoned in to HQ- around 3.30pm in Laindon Hills forest area. (opposite where the horses are kept in the field)
Thank you to the sighters who have also made contact with Rocky's owners.

Good luck today, Sarah ... hope you don't have to fight your way through all the dogs outside HBase this morning.
Come on, Rocky - be good - it's time you got home.
CopperM
Just in case - the guy at the desk said something about putting the bag in the office... I asked for a note to go on it.
re phone - I'll have to check about number witheld - was surprised about that! You can tell I'm not used to using voicemail as I' missed out the essential bit! Will try to remember another time.

What a x it would be - yorkie x working cocker, stunning redhead!
Good Luck for tomorrow! I'll keep peeping!
DogtopiaPetServices
Hi. Sorry I missed you too. I've only just got back home. Hopefully Sarah can entice Rocky out tomorrow with some Essex charm. Our local boys are known to have a one track mind so let's hope Rocky is a typical Basildon boy.
Thanks for getting the towel and brining it over.
Dog WardenBasildon DW
I'm so sorry I missed your calls CopperM. You came up as a withheld number and no number on voicemail so I could not call you back. Ill go to homebase first thing and spread our girlies scent about, she better be hot stuff!
CopperM
Oh BLOW! Unfortunately I went out before the info below was posted. So sorry...
I've left the towel, in a tied white plastic bag with blue writing on, at Homebase entrance - the enquiry/returns desk. Message left on mobiles for Basildon DW and for Dogtopia.
I spoke to one young Homebase lady who knew about the dog, and encouraged me to speak to the car washers, who said they hadn't seen it for 3 days. The snack van people didn't seem to know anything, but would keep an eye out for Bas DW.
I explained at the desk that Bas DW or others might call for the bag and how important it was. I reckoned if I left it at the car wash, it would have been used!
Hope you can get hold of the towel and it doesn't stray like Rocky!
Sheer luck that I called in yesterday on a behaviourist who was minding a bitch in the middle of her heat. She doesn't want the towel back!

Yes,Essex born and bred! Just sorry I haven't got time to help more at the moment... Last edited: 2012-06-24 14:41:34 by CopperM

A great idea, but I've got to go to P at H anyway, and having reread the posts, I'm guessing it's not far from Homebase.... will be at home till 11am, then will drive...
Dog WardenBasildon DW
Your a star CopperM. I can meet you somewhere if that's easier than dragging you down to Basildon. I am available after around 11.

I have a towel today from a bitch on heat. Am away at the moment be back in ss12 tomorrow sunday. Haven't really got time to stay tomorrow, but would like to bring towel over... has anyone a postcode, pls, as I'm not very familiar with Basildon?

Just posting to describe the location ... the site where Rocky has been sighted regularly is 16 acres of a commercial business (gates locked etc. when the owners are not in attendance) - the owners also have 3 cats there.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
If we can find a number of people who are prepared to monitor a trap, even throughout the night, that could still work. But as DW says we can't risk any animal being trapped and distressed. If people can do say, an hour or two at a time to sit nearby and watch or check the trap every half hour, that would be great. Patience is needed though. Otherwise we really do need to do as DW has asked. It is possible, we just need human bodies to assist. Thank you. x
Spangles
I have posted on FB too, fingers crossed the Essex Girls come up trumps :-) x
DogtopiaPetServices
Morning campers. I've just put a post on my Facebook pages requesting the scent of a lady.....
I'll let you know if any come forward to assist. We are all Essex girls here so I'm hoping our reputation can be upheld :-)
Di
Can't help in that respect. Can only suggest there's a breeder in Fobbing (fobbingAcres ?) or Gemini / Thurrock DW / NAWT at Orsett ... not much help I'm afraid - you've probably already thought of those. (There's also a resident fox at HomeBase, sadly)
Dog WardenBasildon DW
I'm thinking twice about a trap as I think there are so many foxes and badgers there and no one on site all the time. As a badger has weakened it allready I would hate for something to try and get out and get stuck or injured and be left suffering for hours on end, but I have thought about using a bitch scent, worked wonders for me several times. Only problem no bitches in season at our kennels. Does anyone in the basildon area have any bitches in season I could leave towels with to lay down scent?
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Ah, well this is good because he knows where he has a food and water supply so will stay in the area. Your DW is brilliant and with any luck, Rocky will be soon home. You are fantastic helpers out there! Well done, truly. x
Di
Went back around 11ish and did the rounds, on my journey I met Rocky's owner who said there had been further sightings, so we went there and Rocky was roaming about (12.40) - he ran off, but returned & ran away again. Bit out on a limb, so rang Cath who very kindly rang round for Basildon DW who came to the area and is going to put a trap down. Let's hope it works, as he must be crossing a very busy road regularly. The premises site owners have been putting down food & water for him for 3 days & he has ample places to bed down there nice & dry - they've been really helpful. Thanks Cath & Sarah - fingers crossed now. (Thanks SpringerMad too - the other yorkie can't be Rocky, but thanks for trying - every little helps.)Last edited: 2012-06-22 15:30:59 by Di

not sure if any good but a yorkie 40587 {Ithink} has been found in Essex???
Dog WardenBasildon DW
Pleased the little fella is getting closer to home. I did not see him yesterday morning and unfortunately did not get out last night, (2 days of microchipping 185 dogs with RSPCA left me shattered yesterday), I am fully back on board today and will scout out the area for the best place to put a trap although mine is a little damaged after a badger got in there so will need to go over it with a fine toothcomb.
Di
I went to Homebase at 0700 - stayed until just now but no sighting so far. I gave a poster to the staff - they had seen Rocky earlier in the week and were concerned he was loose. A very helpful lady there said she had seen him come from the back of the building along a tiered wall (that would be the direction from the golf course perimiter). I didn't like to leave food, incase someone needs to "coax" him later, but left a trail of smelly titbits along the wall. It would make a perfect area for a trap or something - just used by Homebase staff, but I guess it would need permission (they are really helpful there). I have explained how timid he is at the moment and advised to call the DW on any sighting. Did wander back & forth to the golf course and neighbouring areas. Will look again later if I'm able.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
You are all doing fantastically! Well done everyone! Now as Rocky has been on the loose for a while, in order to survive, his natural instincts will kick in, so please don't be alarmed if he runs away from people, even his owner. He needs to do this to survive and his little brain is active and on red alert at the moment. Give him time to process who you are and sit quietly near by if you can see him. By all means call him but so as not to alarm him. It may take a few minutes for him to understand its you. If you can get close enough, take some hot smelly food and make squeaking sounds. All dogs are curious so eventually may come over - patience is needed. He needs to process who and what you are. Don't worry it is perfectly normal. Yes with the scenting - I sent instructions to owner's friend initially, so you should know what to do. Dogtopia, well done re the T-shirt scenting. Have patience, keep up the good work and you will get him home! Nearly there. I think Jotty and DW will help re the trap if needed, but you may get him tomorrow anyway, if not tonight. x
Di
That's reassuring - well done, Cath ! Somehow I feel happier he's on that side of the road, rather than bumbling around OTH. I called earlier , but will text you so you have my mobile too. Yes - you could be right about the trap. My fingers are crossed that we can get this boy home safely.
DogtopiaPetServices
UPDATE....Rocky has been seen a few times in the HOMEBASE car park, London Rd, Vange. He was see at 1.40 today by the car cleaning guys & 2 days ago by them also. I met the owner there today at 2.30 and tried to give her instructions on what to do and what NOT to do. She took a t shirt and we have left it in an upturned road cone so he can sniff it out and get inside it if need be. I sent her off to buy a burger and told her to sit around CALMLY for a while. I have also given the wash guys my card in case they actually catch him.
I think the owner is too angry at the minute to actually catch Rocky, I think, if possible, a trap may be the way forward. If the dog warden, Jo or Di wants to call me, please feel free and I'll fill you in!!

Did much the same this afternoon - just varying routes - no sighting though. People I spoke to had seen the posters though - so something good. Keep safe Rocky
Di
Just been walking around One Tree Hill & up into Bells Hill but nothing. Put some more posters up & handouts to people I met. Went around one tree hill onto Dry Street, then to Gym (bin area) then had a look around the 5 Bells area. Not sure what else I can do without further sightings, but if I can dry out in time, I'll try again later. At least he has drinkable water around again
Dog WardenBasildon DW
I will attempt to get my backside out of bed very early tomorrow morning and have a scout about. Worried though he may stay hidden if we are due to get a lot of rain. I shall also let the DW for Thurrock know what's going on. Cath & Di I'm happy for you both to have my mobile so we can have a chat/meet up easy if we get a sighting. You can drop me an email at animalcontrol@basildon.gov.uk or get the number via Jo.
Di
Thanks Cath - at least he's going away from the A13 - that ties in with the lady I spoke to aswell (after 08.30). Will try again tomorrow, but it's such a huu-uuge area to cover. Will try to poster more effectively ! My tootsies are still throbbing - ha-ha

Just had another reported sighting from yesterday morning. 8.30am. Walking up ONE TREE HILL road/lane. Very near to the bridge/Corringham Park Farm. My friend tried to coax him but couldn't get near. Definitely worth getting in to the farm tomorrow morning. Lots of people on the lookout over the hills but no sightings today.
Di
I just want to see Rocky safe & back home. If there are any more sightings , please let me know so I can look in the right places tomorrow. Have new posters printed, but my printer's not doing well ! Fantastic, well done Di and Cath and everyone else helping!! Hopefully it won't be long now.

Maybe worth getting some of Rocky's bedding/article of owners clothing and leaving somewhere safe and secluded where there have been a few of the sightings - Sarah will you be speaking/visiting owners again anytime soon?
Di
I'd already left with the older posters. Went to Vange Park Road/ Bells Hill but no luck. Resident told me she too had seen this dog tues. am (drinking from a puddle) she put out food & water and followed where it went - the road parallel to A13 leading to Hovell Stables (gated). She called the stables and asked them to look for the dog. I left a poster for the stable to display - they said they'd searched but no luck. Left posters with businesses / residents there. Went on to One Tree Hill and postered for dog walkers - Cath has been spreading the word too. Back to the Gym / Golf course and handed out more posters (Golf cafe is kindly going to display a poster). Hope this dog is found soon - the last sighting is just feet away from the A13. x Oh - and the "fag-break" nurses are going to put a poster in the canteen - I asked everyone to call the Dog Warden if the dog is seen, by the wayLast edited: 2012-06-20 13:13:20 by Di

The road where Rocky was seen yesterday is confirmed as VANGE PARK ROAD.
Jo - Area Co-ordinator, Essex
Have added an extra bit of info onto his details that will then appear on poster asking to call if sighted and not to chase.
My parents are visiting my grandad in Basildon hospital almost daily atm so told them to keep eye out. Will see if I can get someone to put a message on staff electronic noticeboard at the hospital to make more staff aware.
Dog WardenBasildon DW
He is definately sticking along to that hospital road, the golf course runs parallel with that road, unfortunately it is such a busy road. I will not be able to get over there during the day for the next two days (microchipping events) but will keep on looking in the evenings. Would it be worth adding some posters that ask the general public not to try and catch him but leave it to DL helpers and me as I worry if he has too many people chasing him we will push him out further toward the A13.
Di
Will do later - now have some posters. Thanks Cath (I'm the one with the JR terriers you see)
DogtopiaPetServices
Morning. Just had a message back. Definitely a Yorkie seen. I believe the road is the Bells Hill. The one next to the Five Bells pub. The dog was seen, the guy tried to coax it but it ran off into a field. 7am Tuesday. I will speak to the park ranger too. Someone needs to pop into Longwood and speak to the nurses who have a fag break outside the hospital just down Dry Street.

This is very good news. If he has been there once, he will probably return. Please can everyone keep postering. Thank you. Well done Basildon Dog Warden. x
Di
You're doing a great job - nice to see such a caring DW - I did look round those bins - there was evidence of rummaging, but I also saw foxes. Maybe I can print some laminates tonight to pop around tomorrow - my dogs would love the excercise ! At least the people are kindly and informative - that's nice. Can't guarantee - I'm in Grays, so a bit of a hike with mutts in tow. Is there anywhere particular I should go - perhaps where he might head towards ?
Dog WardenBasildon DW
Thanks for coming out to look Di it is a huge area to cover!, a gym user said he was at the bins last night. I'm over there now and nothing, will come back out later when its nice and quiet.
Di
Went all the way round - but no sightings. Everyone I spoke to said the sightings were yesterday - this included a postman who saw a yorkie crossing Sparrows Herne (he said the cars had to stop to let it cross) and heading to the Gym area: also the groundsman who saw a yorkie hanging around the gym area. I went right round the golf course and through a lane to Cashmere way (Vange). I could only hand out posters (to dog walkers, nearby residents etc) as I was on Golf Course premises & had nothing to fix to anything. Only a handful of the people I spoke to had not heard of the missing/sighted dog. Hope he is found soon x (PS that is one BIG golf corse to walk !)
Di
On my way - will just print some posters

URGENT APPEAL FOR LOCAL HELPERS!!!

We've just discovered due to owners' serious ill-health and lack of car they are VERY limited in terms of searching and postering for Rocky. In view of the recent sighting (see details below in DW's post) are there any local helpers please who would be able to help the DW search and get this little boy home to his family?? Dog WardenBasildon DW
Possible sighting on Basildon golf course, near the Club kingswood Gym car park. Over there now but patrolled and not found. I will visit owners with advice. A female yorkie was picked up on Sunday and taken to PDSA very old and wobbly could be the same dog but unlikely to be able to scavenge much for food, worth concentrating efforts over the golf course for Rocky.
SanBarn
Yes both numbers are correct, they are the numbers of the owners friend and she lives in Wiltshire. The owner doesn't have access to a computer.
I have spoken at length with owners friend,Rocky slipped his collar and ran off while walking with owner in Swanstead Road. Owner has been putting posters up around area and has approached travellers that have been scrap collecting around the local streets.Owner is also making regular calls to dog warden and local vets etc. xx
CopperM
Is phone 1 no. correct, or have 2 digits been transposed? 01264 is Marlborough, I think! 01268 is the usual Basildon code.

Have sent out lots of personal emails - Good Luck!
