Fantastic news! Welcome home Fritzy - stay safe now big man xx
AlisonH
Brilliant news. So pleased he is safely back home.
DogLostOwl
Very relieved to read this good news. Bernard Caretaker, sorry I didn't reply but have been out all afternoon. I'm also relieved you didn't need a trap as the only wolfie-sized one I know of is in East Anglia! A tracker dog would not have been much help here, as you already knew which area Fritzy was in. A tracker dog is useful to indicate which way a dog went or which places it is frequenting, but can't catch up with a fast dog on the run. Kat and her husband did exactly the right thing, used a friendly dog to bring him in, well done!
Nigel and Cathy
Fab news, so glad he is safe x

I'm so pleased to read that Fritzy is caught. Well done everyone X

Fantastic news, well done to everyone involved. Always a good point to remember, if you have other dogs take them with you. A dog on the run is ALWAYS more likely to come to a dog they know rather than a human.

Welcome home and stay safe now Fritzy :) x

Excellent news. Well done Kat, Kat's husband and especially Texas. Well done guys :-)
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Great news...
Bernard Caretaker
yes Kat has definitely got him - safely stowed in her car boot along with her bitch, Texas. They caught him near a horse field up a track from Schools/Scholes Farm (not sure how it's spelled). He apparently was running away from the searchers when Kat's husband collared him and coaxed him through the fence to where Texas was stood and so he went straight to Texas.
Bernard Caretaker
Hold the phone - I think we've got him!!
Bernard Caretaker
Just in - latest sightings are at East Town End Farm off the A595. Farmer is there along with one of our searchers (Katherine Smith). A cyclist has also sighted the dog there.
Bernard Caretaker
Owl - spoken to Jane at HQ and she suggested contacting you about the possibilty of a tracker dog and also dog traps. Could you help with either of these issues?
Bernard Caretaker
There has been a sighting of Fritzy this morning around 9.45am we believe and he was running across fields in the Scholes Farm area. From what I know, this area is also near to a gypsy encampment and Katherine Smith is going to meet the farmer's friend that sighted Fritzy at that location. We will post an update as soon as we have anything.
DogLostOwl
It may also be worth doing a fry up on the golf course if they will allow it. Dogs on the run do favour golf courses, there are invariable rabbits, usually a stream somewhere, and plenty of cover to den up. Fritzy may well be sleeping somewhere in the "rough".
Bernard Caretaker
Moor House Farm is in the area where Fritzy is missing - they have a business (Cumbria Loos) but also sell eggs as they have a lot of chickens. The farm is situated off the A596 between the junctions of Jubilee Road and Branthwaite Road. This info has come in as an anonymous text message and we will direct searchers to start there first.
The farmer that heard Fritzy howling on Sunday night is at east End Town farm - a chicken farm near the wind turbines - so he may be in that area still due to the smell of the chickens!Last edited: 2012-03-20 11:26:59 by Bernard Caretaker

Fritzy will be getting hungry by now. If he is still in hiding in the same same area might be worth asking the landowners permission to light a BBQ and cook some nice smelly food in the evening to try and coax him out. Sausage and sardine are especially tempting and he will be able to smell them from a long way off.
Bernard Caretaker
Oodle and Freeads checked - also negative
Bernard Caretaker
Internet sites checked (pets4homes, preloved, epupz, dogsandpuppies)all still negative
Bernard Caretaker
Daliman- Langwathby is a fair distance from the Workington area where Fritzy is, but glad you shared it on Faceboook anyway, you never know who else might see the post. Thanks
Daliman
well shared anyway
Daliman
Oh I am from Suffolk so I not sure of the place where Fritzy is missing from but just know that it is Cumbria and that is where my sons mother lives.
Daliman
Hi! Is this anywhere near Langwathby! If so my son's mother lives there and she is on my Facebook so I can share on Facebook and she can notify friends.
Bernard Caretaker
To NellyB289 - yes both kennels informed. There will be someone up there again tomorrow looking for Fritzy, but any sightings can be rung through to the mobile numbers on the poster still. It seems he is still hanging around the area at the back of the golf course, near to the farm, hotel and golf course itself. His tracks that have been spotted today show him going round in circles pretty much I think and I believe the farmer at Winscales Farm is also ringing around trying to help. There are various threads running on Facebook, but the Whitehaven & District Canine Association page on Facebook seems to have the most geographical detail on it that would make sense to a local person.
NellyB289
I'm very local to the area and have cross posted to my facebook page and a local groups page. I assume from the below that Tutehill Kennels and Whinmill Kennels have been notified. We'll be keeping an eye out when walking our two and when out and about. Hope you find him soon.
Bernard Caretaker
Although there have been lots of paw prints spotted in a similar area to where he was yesterday, Fritzy is still at large. He seems to be in the area of Workington Golf Course, Hunday manor Hotel and Winscales Farm, just outside Workington in Cumbria.
Bernard Caretaker
Have checked usual websites (Epupz, Preloved) just in case anyone has picked him up and is trying to sell him, but nothing obvious fortunately.
Nigel and Cathy
Hi all. We have cross posted this on our Facebook page. I know a couple of the people searching for dear Fritzy so know how desperate they all are to get him home. Fingers and paws crossed here for a good outcome, wish we lived closer x
Katherine 1981
have emailed the microlight people, rang a local roofing business, the 2 local post offices , a dog cremation place, 2 radio stations , 2 hotels and resturants in the area, a local taxi firm knows about him, the 2 local kennels that take in the strays know about him missing, also stopped at some houses and a farm to leave my number in the area he was missing, i went into the golf club yesterday so they know also, the word is spreading round about him, thank you all for the comments just hoping he finds somewhere safe but at the same time is seen. owner has contacted local vets and business also. knowing fritzy he will hide out somewhere, poor baby ... please come home, DEVASTATED ..
AlisonH
Dogs on the run tend to revert to ferral behaviour and only come out to between dusk and dawn so it would be wise to go out looking in the same area this evening. He is probably curled up fast asleep somewhere cosy like behind a hay stack right now.
Bernard Caretaker
Thanks dekkaan, I've passed that information onto the owners - found a microlight club based at Carlisle airport
dekkaann
May be worth seeing if a microlight club is
nearby, you may find a member willing to check
out the area, a wolfie would be easy to spot.
Sounds like you are nearly there so good luck.
Goldenfrodo
Fingers crossed you have some good news soon. xx

Bless him xx

He was heard last night around WindScales Farm ... just past a barn along a two mile track. The police reported a sighting of him this morning in the same area. We have been back up there all morning, but nothing as yet.Last edited: 2012-03-19 11:29:19 by Cdurose

An Irish Wolfhound is not a dog that would go unnoticed so get posters put up everywhere and make him too hot to handle.
Katherine 1981
THANK YOU , KEEPING EVERYTHING CROSSED HERE HE IS FOUND OR MAKES HIS WAY TO A GENUINE PERSON WHO LETS THE AUTHORITIES KNOW..

hi i have sent 2 pictures of him that were taken of him yesterday to the doglost email. He was with me when he bolted.
AlisonH
Text sent requesting photo.
Katherine 1981
Fritzy ran from the workington lesuire center to the main road that leads up to the workington golf course, seen inside the golf course jumping fencing into farming fields towards windscales and hunday areas. could have headed to stainburn and great clifton, bolted from boot of the car and still has a collar and lead attached. please look out for him, we searched for 8 hours, but we were visiting the area and are not local.
