As Carries foster Mum, I would just like to thank everyone for your kind words of support. We are slowly coming to terms with the sad news, but she will always hold a special place in my heart. I have a couple of photos to remember her by which were taken the day before she bolted, showing how she was beginning to settle down and relax enough to actually allow herself to sleep. With a lot of patience, she would have made a beautiful, gentle and loving pet. Even tho she was petrified of everything, she was trusting when accepting little treats. She has left her paw prints on everyone's heart that met her or knew of her - a truly remarkable gentle little girl. RIP Poppett xxxx

THIS LITTLE GIRL SO TOUCHED MY HEART, I USED TO PRAY THAT SHE WOULD BE FOUND SAFE AND SOUND.... SHE WAS AT THE START OF HER NEW JOURNEY AND NOW SHE HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM US TOO SOON... RIP CARRIE... I HAVE NO WORDS TO SAY HOW SAD I AM

I am so very sorry that Carrie has lost her life to the railway. Way too many being lost in this way. If all rail workers took pictures many owners would be able to have closure, a horrible word, but it does help in the end. Thanks to this worker. I so wish Carrie was alive and well. We have to hope there was a reason she was taken to heaven. This is how I cope with my own loss. Such a beautiful girl, now safe in God's arms. You have been found my precious, you can rest now and play with my Cassie, with Bailey, with Macey, with Poppy, with Violet, with Winnie and all the other precious ones who went in the same way. God takes his special one quickly and without pain. Carrie's family (for that is who you are now), she knows how you feel and its okay, she is fine now and she doesn't want you to worry; you will see her again. God bless. xxx

I just wanted to let you know that I have made it home. The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take too long.

Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new - I wish that you could close your eyes and that you could see it too.

Please try not to be so sad for me but try to understand - God is taking such care of me I'm in the shelter of His hands.

Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying and I'll never hurt again.

Here it is so peaceful when all the angels sing. I really have to go for now.... I've just got to try my wings.

My thoughts and sympathy go to Carrie`s owners at this tragic time. Carrie is recovered now and playing at the bridge, where she will be waiting for you when the time comes: you have not lost your girl forever; she is only a whisper away. Night, night Carrie, sleep tight under the gaze of Jesus, who is watching over you and your family. Sending your owners lots of hugs and healing thoughts for their grief. Run free Carrie; until you meet again RIP+++ God Bless.

It is with a heavy heart that I post this message........Carrie has been found but unfortunately next to the railway line at Bainton, Peterborough. Following my email to Network Rail yesterday, a track worker recognised her picture as the dog he had found (and buried) approx 10 days ago. He had the forethought to take a picture of her, so I was able to confirm that it was Carrie. She is not maimed in anyway and just looks like she is asleep right next to the tracks. I would like to thank everyone for all their helpful advice and messages of support. It has helped us through what have been a dreadful few weeks. RIP Carrie now at Rainbow Bridge with all your doggie pals, run free sweetheart ♥

Another sighting of Carrie about an hour ago at the rear of the bowling alley, however she ran off towards Smiths Motors again. Luckily a baited trap was set there this afternoon, so fingers crossed she will smell the lovely food and be tempted into the trap. Trap will be checked first thing tomorrow morning.

So pleased there has been a sighting. Lets hope she stays long enough to be caught. Plot the timings and dates on her map. Good luck...Stay safe little one...

Great news there has been a sighting of Carrie, will bump her page.

Capricorn
Carrie has been seen this afternoon at the back of Smiths Motors, Bretton Way, Peterborough. Apparantly she was also there last week overnight Tues/weds. We are in the process of seeing if traps can be left in the vicinity. Posters have been distributed to firms in the area. Can anyone help with postering the areas opposite Smiths Motors?
Kazzie
Any more news on Carrie? Keep thinking about her.Stay safe Carrie.x
Capricorn
Hi, just wanted to say sadly no news about Carrie. Last sighting was a week ago. Food in traps hasn't been touched, so not sure if she is still in the area.
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
Hi Chrisj, The dog I mentioned was also from Eire and taken with her siblings (all feral) from a concrete exposed enclosure to the pound and from there into rescue and transported over here to MT rescue. She was re-homed only a short time later at aged 4 months. She was absolutely terrified of humans. Her owners had to leave her on her own in the kitchen to eat, if they were around she would just cower and try to run.She did however, bond instantly with their other dog. It was during this time that she escaped and I just thought I would share what we did, successfully, to get her home. I hope the trap works and wish you all every success in getting this little one home.
BorderCollies
I am wondering how she was caught in Ireland when she was a stray?
Though Eva came from a pet like environment, she turned feral really quickly. And I think one has to remember how a "wild" dog would behave and how suspicious it would be about anything new in it's environment. Though it is difficult, give her some time to settle :)
Just keep doing what you are doing :)

BorderCollies - Yes our fear was is frightening her away. At the moment we know the area where she is. Food is being left, but not taken. Tripe fresh, sticks and tripe tinned food smeared around, chicken wings, sardines left around the trap in bits and smeared near to openings in fences etc to try to entice her in to the trap area. We have one trap with a cover over it and the other is open, but in a secluded spot. Maybe as you say we just need to be patient and keep putting smelly food around.
ChrisJ
Teddys Mum - Carrie is form an Irish Pound, was in rescue for 10 days, shared a kennel with 2 different waggy male terriers and was in a foster home for just 2 days. She responded to one of the terriers she has shared a kennel with for just 2 or 3 days. I don't think a person will be able to get close to her to take food, she would be too frightened. We have 2 traps set and food is being refreshed.
BorderCollies
Hi, I am Eva's mum, my dog was n the run for 5 months, before we managed to trap her.
Looks like Carrie likes similar areas as Eva did. Very quiet, without people and dog walkers. Eva was terrified of people and was worried about other dogs.
If Carrie stays close to the garden I would keep putting food down to keep her there. Eva had 2 places she was hiding out and alternated between them depending which was less "busy".
I wouldn't even try to catch her with food in your hand, or lying on the floor etc. If that goes wrong chances are that she might move areas and you have to start from scratch.

We put tripe and chicken thighs smeared in tripe, sometimes topped up with sardines, in the trap and we left a trace of the food around the trap, so that Eva could smell her way into the trap. We were lucky and it worked for us.
We covered the trap and put it near trees and bushes and checked it a few times during the day. Don't make the place too busy. Patience is the key. I know it is difficult and I know exactly what you are going through...

Regarding not being allowed to put up posters on lampposts, I as told the same by my local council, did it nevertheless. They even threatened me with a fine. In the end, all I wanted was my dog back. Good luck! Will be thinking of you.
Faye
Come on Carrie, hurry up and be found safely, our thoughts and prayers are with the lovely people looking for youxxxxxxxxxxxx
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
Is there a dog that carrie knows? If so that would be the dog to take to the area of sightings and would entice her out. I was involved in a similar situation, whereby a newly rescued dog, fine with dogs but terrified of humans, escaped. We were on two occasions able to take the other dog of the owners and it was this dog that sniffed her out and enticed her out of her hiding place. We were kneeling down low, so as not to frighten her and offered food which she came forward and ate from our hands. We stayed low, very low and avoided eye contact and did not speak. The owner then managed to catch hold of the tag on her collar and then under her collar, very very slowly and we had her. The other way would be to set and man a trap for her. Good luck. It is heartbreaking to see these terrified dogs, but the one I have just mentioned, although a long job, loves people she has got to know.
Auntie Katie
I've bumped Carrie due to the sighting(s) of her. She is also in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph tonight.

Stay safe Carrie and come on home! xx
ChrisJ
Carrie has been spotted close to home, 1 definite sighting and 2 possibilities. We are wondering, because she is frightened of humans whether it would be a good idea to walk a small friendly calm dog near to this area, to see if they would entice her out. Any thoughts or experiences with this ?Last edited: 2012-03-13 13:30:18 by ChrisJ

Hope you find her soon.Walked from orton mere to ferry meadows today & looked out for in case shes moved on from the garden, as she could easily go there from Thorpe meadows.Stay safe Carrie.x
ChrisJ
Two traps were set up yesterday and food etc put in them last night. Unfortunately the update from Capricorn is that there were no sightings last night
Capricorn
I think in this case its 'the less people the better' so we don't freak Carrie if she is watching us and in order to respect the owners wishes, after all they are being very accomodating letting us trample all over their grounds. Fingers crossed she'll be caught very soon.
ChrisJ
Quick update. We will hopefully have 2 traps to set up tomorrow and possiblity of a 3rd as well (waiting to hear). Food is going out again tonight in slightly different areas and also Capricorn has got agreement for a small number of us to enter the garden to set everything up tomorrow. Just hoping she has stayed in the area. Last edited: 2012-03-09 18:26:04 by ChrisJ

Blueribbon has now picked up the trap from St Neots and is bringign up to PEterborough tomorrow. Capricorn is talkign to garden owner today about delivering the trap into the garden on Saturday, so hopefully there will not be a problem with this.

Food was left last night, but no sightings and the food hadn't been touched, hoping she hasn't left the garden.
DogLostAngus
Ok - I think that we are sorted now with contact numbers passed to the right people on the ground ChrisJ & blueribbon - back up trap is available in MK should there be a problem sorting the closer St Neots one Last edited: 2012-03-09 09:00:42 by Angus
ChrisJ
To be clear on this, blueribbon and I are Volunteers at the Dog Rescue where carrie came from. Capricorn is Foster Mum to Carrie. As Carrie was only with Capricirn for 2 nights, we are working closely with her and the garden owner to get a trap and do the best things, with your help, in where to set it. Blueribbon needs to pick up the trap today to then bring it up to Peterborough. Meanwhile Capricorn keeps leaving food in the gardent so hopefully Carrie will stay put.Last edited: 2012-03-09 08:34:42 by ChrisJ

i am the person that has contacted the rescue co ordinators to offer to pick up the trap. i am rescue cordinator for the rescue and my nymber that is on the flyer. have tried ringing but have had to leave a message for her/him to get back to me. i need the contact number for the person in st neots so we can go and get it
Auntie Katie
Thank you blueribbonuk - I think its been sorted but I'm sure they will contact you if not - thank you again thats a very kind offer! xx

Also, just a note to remind people that if they do happen to see Carrie to not approach her, if you can call to let us know we can monitor how she is moving around - this is more important than trying to rush her and spooking her more at the moment. She needs to feel safe in the area she picks out for herself.

We all want Carrie to be safe and warm and her foster mum and rescue co-ordinators are doing a fantastic job. They will let us know if they need more feet on the ground or help in any way.

Please keep sharing Carrie, as many people that spot her gives us a better idea of how and where she is moving.
blueribbonuk
i am in cambrisge so not far from st neots i can collect the trap and get it to the owners

Hi Capricorn I've messaged you through facebook some phone numbers that you want. Hope you get them x x

Capricorn - my number is 07515 884 675 I am at work till 2 ish but can get away with an incoming call (if you know what I mean ) you are welcome to collect trap from Milton Keynes but it does not fold so will need an estate or small van to collect it in.

There is another trap of ours in St Neots area which may be nearer - I can give you the number of the now reunited dogs owner who still has it - give me a buzz

Capricorn
PamH - She was brought over from Ireland about 3 weeks ago and was a stray over there. We had only walked her around our garden as we wanted to get her a proper collar and extending lead before taking her outside. It was when we returned with these and other bits and bobs for her, that she bolted after escaping (whilst we were out) from the kitchen! Therefore she has no scent to follow back home and in fact didn't even wee etc in the garden, prefering to do it all indoors on various areas that weren't covered by old sheets - How do they manage to find the smallest uncovered spot!
Capricorn
Just got back from searching the area with the Dog Warden - no sign of her yet. As she is so timid he thinks too many people looking in this particular garden will frighten her even more. The garden is more like a park and although to the human eye, is fenced in. When you look more closely, there are plenty of places for a determined dog to escape. Two bowls of food where left out, however I have my suspitions that the dog who lives there may well have eaten the first bowl as she was seen trotting away from the area lol. The other was placed where Carrie was actually seen and unfortunately that is still there. I am hopeful that she will return to the area again and would be grateful if someone could either ask Angus to contact me (my contact details are with Auntie Katie) or let me know his contact details. Thanks Capricorn
PamH
Does anyone know if Was she from the Peterborough area before she was in rescue, as she may have been familiar with the area if so.Hope you find the poor little thing soon.:(
Ovelica
Hi there I was Violet's fosterer and have messaged Carrie's fosterer about what we went through also about a trap. Angus Co-ordinator has a trap but you would need to collect it also it doesn't fold down and you would need a van or an estate car to fetch it. As regards covering the trap and making it like a den it was not advised to do that in the end by Martin Soare (dog trapper). Violet only went in the trap when we baited it with raw chicken wings coated in garlic and an uncovered trap this again advised by Martin Soare. We did do BBQ's using the disposable ones and this did coax her near the trap. with the smells. We are not from Peterborough but are willing to travel up to help you in anyway. As Dawnie1972 has said Carrie is very like Violet so we know what you are going through with this. Take care and big hugs to you x x
dawnie1972
It might be worthwhile seeing if you can find the thread re Violet who was lost in Bedfordshire last year as she too was petrified and they did a lot of things to try and entice her - if using a trap try to ensure it looks nothing like a trap ie cover with blankets, even put a towel on the base (ensuring not to hinder the trap mechanism) as if she attempts to go in and gets spooked then the chances are gone. I'm on Best Friends vets facebook group so will post the link tonight when at home. I think the Violet group also did a barbecue to make the smell of food enticing for her. If you can encourage her to come near would you be able to get a slip lead with the loop really open and place the lead on teh floor with the food in the middle so that when she goes to eat the food you could raise the loop over her head?
ChrisJ
Auntie Katie, Ive emailed you Capricorns and my contact details
ChrisJ
The area Carrie is in is extremely close to the A47 an extrememly busy dual carriageway. The last thing we want to do is frighten her into running away. Where she has been spottted is a large garden, with plenty of cover to hide in. Carrie was only with Capricorn 2 days and is extremely unsure of humans (starting to respond though).I just wonder whether it would be better to create a comfy 'den' for her and a trap for her to get used to, in the area Capricorn has been putting food down ? Hopefully the dog warden is meeting her today, but we would appreciate how you think we should approach this. We are also going to make sure there are plenty of posters around the aea she has been seen.
Auntie Katie
Hi Capricorn, can you email me your contact details and I will call you - my email address is doglostcambridge@yahoo.co.uk and we can get something sorted. x
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
Dogs, even very nervous ones, are inquisitive. Try laying down with food in your hand and whimper, curiosity will get the better of her and she may well approach. Hold food out in your hand but avoid eye contact. Keep feeding until you can hold a collar etc. Good luck, I do hope you get her soon. Such a pretty little girl.
Capricorn
Would one of the co-ordinators please contact me as I've been speaking with Chris and she has suggested putting traps around the garden and seeing if we can catch her that way. I would like to know how to arrange this please. Thanks
Kazzie
So glad shes been spotted. Everything crossed you can get her home tomorrow. Will continue looking out for her.x
Capricorn
Good news, Carrie has been spotted again tonight, very close to home. We have been searching in the area with torches, but its a huge garden about 1.5acres and we didn't want to spook her with the torchlight. We will be back first thing with the dog warden. we have left her food and just thankful that she is really close to home.
With regard to posters, I have been non stop, putting them up around shopss and schools but was of the understanding that it was illegal to put notices on lamp-psots, dog bins etc. However I rang the council today and was told I was allowed to put a few up, so that was on my list of things to do tomorrow.
ChrisJ
Monkey123 would you be able to contact me about the dog walking areas you mean and where would be good places to put posters ? I do not know the area well, but as blueribbon says, we are going to get some more posters out tomorrow.
blueribbonuk
people are going out tomorrow with poster in the area and to look around different places. some posters have gone up i.e vets etc
mellyg123
Hi, I've just been for a long walk around Netherton and the City Hospital area, across fields etc, to see if I could spot Carrie hiding anywhere. On my travels, I was really surprised not to see one poster. There are loads of people walking in that area all the time, and a poster on bus stops and lampposts and dog bins even could just catch somebody's eye that isn't aware of Carrie's plight. if I didn't get Doglost alerts, I would be none the wiser walking the hour and half I did today.
ChrisJ
It was Dan a little terrier, I have found out though that he was only kennelled with Carrie for 2 days though, and at the time we took their pics, so perhaps just a small friendly dog would entice her out.
Capricorn
Still no news of Carrie. I am amazed at the amount of people who are contacting me regarding her, having seen her details on either websites or facebook. Her details have just gone everywhere on fb, people reposting etc.
Regarding her kennel mate - would that have been Benjamin the rough coated JRT, if so he was rehomed recently. We walked her with several other dogs at various times and she didn't seem fazed by any of them. She was seen the afternoon that she bolted, in a garden to the back of ours, but unfortunately I wasn't told until yesterday almost 24hrs later and of course she'd gone. Honestly I think we have exhausted all lines of advertising her and are now wondering whether she is still in the area or has wandered further afield, but its like a maze round where we live and she could be anywhere.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Just a thought (and I don't know if it would be possible but) if Carrie bonded with her kennel mate could he not join the search for her, she may show herself for him.
ChrisJ
I was with Carrie at the rescue while the pics were being taken. She was on a lead, which has been edited out. She came out of her shell when her kennel mate was with her (a small young very friendly terrier boy) he just happens to be out of view. The pics do not show her how she is around humans - which is very frightened. Although, I understand she was starting to respond to her foster family.
blueribbonuk
the pic was taken whilst she was at the rescue. i hope she doesnt try and make her way back there as she would have the busy A47 to contend with. we are all routing for you carrie please come out from where ever you are so you can be found.
Ovelica
Me again, racking my brains here to try and help you and thinking of what we did when looking for Violet. Has she got a collar and a name tag on because if she has you maybe able to hear the jingle of the tag if she is near you when you are looking. Also if you in a wooded area try and see if you can see any of her fur lying around that may have have been pulled out by twigs or bushes. Will keep thinking of things and hope they are of help. Take care x x
Ovelica
Hi Capricorn, The photos that have been taken of Carrie which look like they have been taken in the woods or a forest somewhere she looks relaxed and I was wondering would she head off towards an area that is similar as a safe zone. When our foster Collie Violet who was very similar to Carrie really scared and nervous and did not know her name bolted and ran off it was towards a wooded area. x x

Carrie has been crossposted to the RHU forum. Lots of members on there who will keep a lookout for her.
Stay safe lovely girl until somebody can help you get back to your family

As Carrie's foster mum I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm doing everything I can, off in a min to put up more posters.
