Came back and saw the blue page so was hoping you'd found your girl to lay her to rest. It was not to be .. so sad, but it was not through any lack of trying on your part. Poppy will have been watching over you and seen all your efforts to try to find her and your sadness at your loss. You do not really need her body to honour her memory. It's her spirit that's important and that will always be with you. Sometimes there's that little movement of her spirit that you will catch from the corner of your eye..her telling you that she's still around (a sign as janie jewel says). Remember her now as the treasure she was..you gave her the very best life that an owner could..she was lucky to be so cherished by you and your family. It's a cruel kind of closure to have, but at least you have an ending, albeit sad. I'm so sorry and I really feel for you. Although you were not able to say a proper goodbye to Poppy, perhaps if you wrote what you would have said to her down in a letter and then placed it in a memorial for her it would ease your pain a little. I'm certain Poppy would want to thank you for her life..savour the multitude of happy memories you have, celebrate her life..for she obviously had a long and joyous one! I shall think of her sometimes and smile at the fact she was such a blessed dog in such a happy home. R.I.P. Poppy.

I know what its like not being able to be there with your furbaby when they pass over, to be able to say "Love you, miss you, always will" BUT they do know you are with them, if not physically, then mentally they know! She knows how much you LOVE her, how hard you tried to find her! She will always be beside your side, tho you might not know it, she will.
You gave her a wonderful life and you have so many happy memories of your times together, nothing can ever take those away from you.

PoppinLoppin. So pleased you had a sign from Poppy (Shooting star). When my mother died in 2004 the lights in the lounge kept flashing on and off. All was ok with the electrics and bulbs etc. After her funeral about two weeks later everything went back to normal. I will light a candle for Poppy and you. God Blessxxx

I am deeply sorry that you couldn't get Poppy's body as I know how much it means, but Poppy doesn't worry about her body, God has taken care of that. Poppy knows she has you and you have her, wherever you are. I know it hurts so much that you weren't there when she went to heaven, but you know what? Poppy loves you so much that if you had been there, she would not have been able to leave. It was her time. She has no pain nor suffering now and I know that you would rather feel this pain than have her feel it. This proves how much you love her and she is trying to tell you that she is okay and loves you so much too. Hold on to that shooting star. You may not have her body, but you did find her. Poppy can rest peacefully now. Special dogs touch the lives of others; look how many lives Poppy has touched just in her passing. Look how much love Poppy has generated. I'm trying to type with tears flooding my face after reading so many kind words.

It shocked me first to click on the bookmark and see Poppy on a blue page. I thought well, no, not reunited, she's still lost.

But now I've read your words and some lovely emails, I realise Poppy isn't lost, she's free - and we all go back to the earth in one way or another.

Another thing - janie jewel, you reminded me. I was out in our garden late last night, cold and crying, feeling so sad. My husband came out to join me and then, in the corner of my eye, I saw a shooting star! At the time it was really comforting.... I need to hold on to that.

So very very sorry to hear about the passing of Poppy. rachelnewf. I agree with all you have said. Just because you could not bring her body home, it doesn`t mean she is not with you in spirit. As I type this Poppy is looking down on you and she knows you loved her loads. The body is just a shell so that when we die we shed it like an old overcoat. It`s the spirit that counts for animals and us. She will always be around you. Night, night, sleep tight Poppy. God Bless your owners who need to be strong at this time. A & S, you did everything you possibly could for Poppy, both before and after she went walkabout. Nothing can prepare you for not being able to say goodbye but she knew she was loved and cared for and I am sure that she would be wishing you not to grieve too much but to think of happy times together and the time when you will eventually be reunited. There are various places in which a dog may be buried.
I am thinking now of a Setter, whose coat was flame in the sunshine, and who, so far as I am aware, never entertained a mean or an unworthy thought. This Setter is buried beneath a cherry tree, under four feet of garden loam. And at its proper season, the cherry tree strews petals on the green lawn of his grave. Beneath a cherry tree, or an apple, or any flowering shrub is an excellent place to bury a dog.
Beneath such trees, such shrubs, he slept in the drowsy summer, or gnawed at a flavoursome bone, or lifted his head to challenge some strange intruder. These are good places in life or in death.
Yet, it is a small matter, for if the dog be well remembered, if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life, eyes kindling, laughing, begging, it matters not at all where that dog sleeps. But, there is one place to bury a dog.

This time three weeks ago, our little Poppinloppin laid safely curled up in her bed.

Now, her bed lies empty; her soft, black, friendly warmth taken from us so suddenly we had no chance to say goodbye.

Of all the scenarios I'd envisaged for the passing of Poppy - for I knew she would die, eventually- this was not one of them. To think we couldn't be there in her final moments, so that she knew she was loved and would be missed forever, breaks my heart.

Over the last few years, she and I have been to the vet so often, adjusting one medicine, adding another - all to make her as comfortable as she could possibly be, so she could carry on chasing squirrels in the woods, unhindered by her creaking joints.

And at the end, I could do nothing to ease her pain.

And we can't lay to rest even a small part of her, with her old friends- it' s too cruel. I suppose I have to console myself that her body was just a shell and she, Poppy, is somewhere else, free from pain.

We've really only just begun to miss her, because only a week ago, we still hoped to bring her home. If it wasn't for one kind man who contacted the radio, we'd still be searching for a ghost. It can't have been an easy thing to do, especially when I turned up at your work place, so thankyou D, for your kindness and courage.

Thankyou so much to Team Poppy - you have been an amazing source of strength and inspiration.

We plan to plant Poppy seeds close to the railway line - to commemorate her life and mark her passing. And we'll hold her close in our hearts so she knows she was loved.

Thanks glynsmith - Poppys owners and I discussed the possibility that an animal could have moved body hence todays thorough search of the embankments areas from the safety of the field side of the fence, I walked from Bow Brickhill to Woburn Sands alongside the track fencing on the old farm park side and safely checked stretches of the line from the crossing points with my binoculars and there is another group on the opposite side of the track still searching , the information from the rail worker is genuine and accurate but as you say there has been time in between and one of those things most likely will have happened - We would have like to have been able to bring a final closure but it is likley that today's searches will be the final ones - I know that Poppy's owners will post later on.
We do have to say a massive thank you to the rail worker who called in after the radio interview not an easy thing to do but will allow owners some form of closure and allow them to grieve

I debated on whether or not to add this comment, but feel you should know my thoughts. As I explained to Angus yesterday, I have had my fair share of striking pigeons and foxes during the course of my job. It is not uncommon for the animal to not be there the following day, having become sustainance for badgers, foxes, crows etc.. Whilst I'm not suggesting this is the case, it is possible. Carcasses do get removed from the railway naturally by wildlife. As Poppy has been missing for nearly three weeks, it is something to consider. That said, I hope is not case. Network Rail would have looked for Poppy in a small gang of maybe three or four people, in connection with regular track safety patrolling (ie tightening bolts and looking for defects etc..) they would have been concentrating on the tracks and not the surrounding lineside, where it is possible a struck animal might land in vegetation and undergrowth. I should imagine this ends the involvement of Network Rail, unless a positive sighting is forthcoming to enable recovery. I'm sorry to have painted such a bleak picture. I only hope that a member of Bletchley traincrew who now knows of the search for Poppy, is able to help further. Afterall, they are the people who have a much better view than track workers, as they travel at height. Fingers crossed, but I'm also crossing my other fingers in the hope that Poppy did not succombe to the railway.

Word is now out amongst Bletchley traincrew. I know that Network Rail are going to look (yesterday or today). Please do be mindful that railways really are dangerous,illegal places to walk. I strongly advise that you leave any search and recovery to the authorities. That said, I hope that someone from traincrew or Network Rail, can now can locate.

POSTPONED: MEET & WALK tomorrow

I don't want anyone to turn up at the crossing car park as we now have more info regarding the specific location.

Essentially, I have tracked down the man who contacted 3 counties radio and I now have a much better understanding. I now know that it wasn't a hoax call and it wasn't him who hit Poppy with the train or who even saw her.

But he knows the person who definitely saw a deceased black collie type dog at the side of the track and I now know where. It is about half a mile from Bow Brickhill in the Woburn Sands direction, not far from a foot crossing.

This extra information has been passed to Network Rail who GUARANTEE that a line search on foot will be conducted if not today, then tomorrow.

The location is definitely too unsafe for us to look trackside, but if anyone wishes to look in the surrounding area, please contact me or Angus and we'll explain where it is and where you can park and also, where we've already looked.

Vicki, sometimes the animals will be away from the line a bit, also may I suggest that if you do manage to find Poppy that you contact the local Pet Crem who should be able to collect on owner's behalf. I have been following your search for a while now and feel saddened that you do not yet have joy/closure. I myself am a train driver in London, who used to work at Bletchley. It is normal procedure for the driver to report such an incident to the signaller (Network Rail). It is they who recover animals from tracks. I still know quite a few drivers/guards at Bletchley and have asked them (through facebook) to look at the tracks in the Bow Brickhill area for Poppy. I shall of course come right back with any info.

I am so very, very sorry about this. Sadly I had a feeling this is what may have happened. It happened to my dog and the signs were all there with Poppy. Network Rail is well known for their uncaring attitude; this is why we have so many problems where the railways are concerned. Please bear in mind that she has been there a few days now, if it is her, and that she has been subjected to the weather etc. Make sure someone else is with you. Please know that Poppy would not have suffered; it would have been instant and without any pain. I know you need closure and then you can grieve properly. It would have saved a lot of distress if Network Rail and the train operators did what they were supposed to do and reported this immediately. However, in some ways it has given you time to come to terms with losing her. Please know that she is now safe from harm. God knows where she is and he will take care of her no matter what. Try the Transport police, see if they can help you or contact your MP - worth a try. I wish I were nearer to help you search. My heart goes out to you, truly. Please let us know how you get on. Vicki and I have had no luck with the authorities today. I am fuming but trying to channel my anger into something constructive. I'm going to start checking the the area surrounding the line myself because it seems that no-one on the railways is going to lift a finger to find Poppy.

My husband is going to try again in the morning and see if he can get anywhere with the authorities.

If there are no developments tomorrow, there'll be a meet and walk, starting Weds 1.15pm
from bow Brickhill crossing car park.

It may take a few walks on a few different days but we'll do our best to bring Poppy home.

A and I decided that we would concentrate on phoning different sections of British Rail instead of visiting the station, and we have both had news that might help us find Poppy's location. I phoned the Railway Police head office and spoke to a lovely man who has 2 dogs himself and has promised to investigate further - A has heard that a report was issued to Midland Rail and she is following that up - so watch this space - as soon as we know more I will let you all know and we can arrange a search party. This is such a sad time but I know there are lots of people out there willing to help. xx Vicki

I have spoken to Poppy's owner and offered to go to station with her, but I think we should try to get Railway to take responsibility for not reporting the incident immediately - and get them to at least find out the stretch of rail involved - Rachel I will certainly help search for Poppy as soon as we have any results from Railway.

I feel cheeky asking this, but Is there anyone available to come with me to Bletchley train station tomorrow please? I'm free from 9.30am-2.30pm.

Spoke to the BTP Inspector as we're not very happy with the search so far and he's suggested I speak to a manager in person at Bletchley so we can try to find out the whereabouts of the accident. Unfortunately S is slammed at work tomorrow and can only do later in the afternoon, when of course the children will be home from school so I won't be able to go.

I'm in a hurry to end this now as from Friday the schools break up and I'll have no time.

I don't think I'm up to going alone. If anyone is free I'll treat you to a hot chocolate and a bun somewhere! Really in need of moral support....
It's the last thing I can do for Poppy.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Very sad news indeed. Good of the driver to contact you despite it not being good news. I really do feel for you.. I know that it does not make it any easier for you at this time, but her spirit will always be with you..remember those happy times and that Poppy had a long and wonderful life with you and nothing will ever take that away from you. To my friends on here,

Angus hasn't posted the full story, at my request. We need the driver to stay on side and I don't want to "scare" him as we need more info.

There is little doubt in our minds that it was Poppy who was hit by the train. This is in fact the only solid sighting we have had since the evening of her disappearance and although devastated, we are relieved that her suffering would have been short lived.

We aim to carry on the search for Poppy 's remains so we can put her to rest. But neither of us want to physically look for her as we wish to remember her alive and happy. We are determined that the railway workers will conduct a more thorough search on our behalf.

I just needed to let you know that we accept our loss and don't want anyone to feel it necessary to stay positive for us.

You've all been so brilliant and I can't thank you enough.

I walked the line on the lake side of the fence today as I couldn't do nothing, just waiting for news. Not knowing exactly where the incident was makes things difficult but I will go with owner when they get the information to search. I pray it isn't and that she is safetly tucked up in someone's house.

As a result of the radio interview on Friday morning Poppy's owners have had a call from a train driver who reported hitting a badger sized animal on the rail line on the Friday morning after she escaped near to the last sighting - a line crew has been despatched to search the line but no body has been found - WE ARE APPEALING TO THAT DRIVER for any more precise information as to where on this stretch of line and in which direction he was travelling so that if it is Poppy her owners will be able to find her and bring her home to rest.

My heart is shattered today as I had to take my own beloved girl to the bridge last night & I so want Poppy's owners to be able to have the answers they need to allow them to bring her home or continue the search.

Couldn't agree more Vicki7 .. tv has the power to reach so many people. DogLost reunited Snoopy last month (2 months after he was stolen) from one very short item showing his picture when he was picked up by RSPCA ..that was recognised by the SE area co-ord. I know it is a different senario but it would definitely raise the profile even more. Also would make it more difficult for anyone to keep Poppy if they had taken her in. I am so wanting this pink page to turn to blue .. so keeping everything crossed that the great publicity from your local papers etc will do the job. Keep faith .. we are all thinking of her and you.

Watching 'Look East' on TV last night they were telling of 2 tortoise gone missing from a garden yesterday - they would definitely run Poppy's story - it is worth a try! Another thought, she went missing from Tilbrook at a time when people were driving home from work, if she has been picked up, maybe a group going into the companies on Tilbrook and asking if a leaflet can be left in reception might spark someone's memory? I have continued driving around most days and evening's but I really think she has been taken in. TV is the answer!

Even though Network Rail has said no reports, please bear in mind that many dogs are not reported if seen near the lines, so may I suggest that if not already done so, you poster really heavily around the stations and try and speak to train drivers and rail workers. You need to blitz the railway lines with posters wherever the drivers and track workers will see them. If a rail worker remembers seeing her at all, they should then phone you as they know you are looking. Someone is probably looking after her, not knowing you are searching, but please poster heavily all along that railway area just to really rule it out. Come on precious, where are you? x

Hi, not had chance to update until now - drove from Lakes Estate (Leon School) on A4146 early Saturday Morning through to Caldecote/Tilbrook heading out to Woburn Sands on our way to Bedford. My Mum was scouring the fields and in the field near the railway line we hought we saw something - after climbing over a hedge, traipsing through mud it turned out to be a black sack....I will try to drive round at lease once a day.

Waiting for someone to get back to me with a contact at MK news and I'll email them too.

I've been in touch with the papers so there will be a bigger poster ad in MK Citizen and MK news this week.

Mk Dons have said they'll do something at the Stadium if she's not found before the next home match on Dec 17th.

Haven't done taxi companies...in your experience are they likely to be helpful? I'll try.

Plan to email all vets every Friday (she went missing on a Thursday evening) to remind them about Poppy.

Have asked friends in Stony Stratford and Olney to start postering.

Walked around Brinklow and towards Kingston, talked to lots of dog walkers but nothing at all yet - put poster in Jolley's Westcroft and if I have time tomorrow I will ask the local petrol stations if I can leave a poster - also put a poster up at the entrance to the lake just behind Ikea, not far from Holophane? I hope that's ok .. it is on public status. If not, let me know and I can delete post. Also, this is not meant to be rude, but wondering if it is a good idea putting owners tel number on public status .. it could be an open invitation to the few 'not so nice people' out there that give false leads/demand money etc. The more publicity you can get the better .. local papers but also Daily Mail, Mirror who might like to cover such a heartbreaking story.

Gave out loads of leaflets to walkers and cyclists today in the Brickhill woods and back towards tilbrook, the woods are fairly clear so you can see a long way, but no sign yet :-( I will go out again tomorrow afternoon and walk back towards woughton park and around that area. Was nice to meet some of the others on Team Poppy, but we need more leaflet posters maybe a bit further afield?

Thanks to everyone who came out to help search today - we had a good turn out areas covered, Tilbrook industrial estate, Caldecotte lake and alongside the rail line, all the bin stores to the rear of the office units alongside the rail line, the river alongside Caldecotte lake bordering the A5 dual carriageway, fields and ditches from the station to the rear of Dobbies and the Rugby Club and from Kingston industry back towards Wavendon / Brickhills - FURTHER SEARCHING is going on as I update - Poppy seems to have just disappeared - owners are going to try and get some local news coverage as it could be that someone has picked her up and not reported their find to the correct authorities

The meet for Sunday will be 11 am if that suits most - parking at the Bow Brickhill station/level crossing (car park where the kebab man is in the evenings) hopefully walk for a couple of hours in groups of 2 in various directions looking for any signs etc, steady friendly dogs welcome (Monsters like mine will have to stay at home :-) )

Just parked at the back of Brinklow Ind near Kingston and walked back towards the Stables asked lots of dog walkers but no one has seen anything yet - We know from experience that after a dog has been on its own for a while they tend to make several 'nests' and stay hidden during the day and come out to forage for food in the evenings - however Poppy's owner said she is a friendly dog so this might not be the case. Lets all have a concerted effort this weekend and you never know! does anyone want to meet tomorrow afternoon for a stroll around? I am open to suggestions as to where?

owners took a call earlier as a result of the local paper advert about a stray black dog being seen with police officers on Springfield, we have been able to check logs and sadly it was not Poppy but at least it shows that the advert is being seen

Hi Vicki,great idea - the more the merrier.

Owner I agree, she may have walked their all her life but there will be so many criss-crossing of smells, including your fresh ones, that she is probably really confused. You're doing a brilliant job and the newspaper ad will help raise even more awareness. Hopefully someone has just taken her in and doesn't realise they must call to report her. Brilliant news from Railtrac - that's always a fear when they go missing near lines. Might sound odd but have you postered the sailing club at the lake? Loads of cars and people coming and going around there so definitely worth a try. x

So hoping that you find Poppy very soon. When my elderly collie cross went deaf the one thing she did respond to was one of those high pitched dog whistles .. worth a try??

Just saw her poster in Hunters Farm Shop. I'll keep my eyes peeled for her at Sandhouse Lane if we walk around there before she's found. Lots of bunnies around there that she might have chased into the woods. Praying for her safe return. I wish I could do more. Come home, Poppy! xxx

Hi, just about to head out on bike around red ways from caldecotte, to browns wood, towards wavendon and over the railway line back towards Woburn sands. Beginning to think that if she was around the lake, someone would have seen her by now?

Our neighbours in Bow Brickhill plus family in Aspley Heath are all still looking out up the woods, plus lots of horse riders and moutnatin bikers have been told. Think if she was in the woods, she could have got home as we've walked the woods all her life... But she is older now and obviously confused and I thought she would never head over the road towards Caldecotte, so what do I know?


On the plus side, Railtrac have told me that no dogs found on the line so that is good news.

Park Ranger Dawn has been brilliant and is telling everyone she can.

Vicky, if you are up for a look at the weekend, me or S would come with you. Just text to arrange.

have just got back in from a quick search - didn't see Poppy - found a white american bull dog then several minutes later found its owners dawdling along - just hoping that some one has taken Poppy in and will see the advert in tomorrow's paper

SO many people out looking which is great news. I agree Vicki, she may well have cut back to the woods. Or she's poddles off down the railway line - but as owner has covered Hula that should be enough. Would be worth postering in Woburn Sands in case she has gone that far.
I don't envy you having to check out the poor dog that dies, my heart goes out to you - this is such a hard time but I hope you are comforted by everyone's efforts to get her home to you. x

Sorry I have not updated for a couple of days but been quite busy - walked all around tilbrook and caldecotte again yesterday and today walked along the V10 from the Red Bull building at Tilbrook then in to Walnut tree and almost to Middleton, nearly 4 hours giving out small leaflets to both dog walkers and to children. Nothing yet - no sightings at all might mean she has returned to the Brickhill woods? -there is such a lot of scrub and woodland around to investigate - Hopefully the Citizen might bring some news. fingers crossed everyone - Hope she is curled up in someones house nice and warm.

Hiya. I live in Simpson (MK14) and walk my hound twice a day near Caldecotte and surrounding areas. Other dog walkers in the area and I have been keeping an eye out for Poppy but sadly haven't seen her yet. We will keep looking and hopefully Poppy will be found soon.

Hi, I'm Poppy's owner. I just wanted to thank you all for your help, support and advice. I'm just printing off some of your red posters and will go again to Caldecotte and around the redways there. We have been busy giving out our own posters and leaflets around the Brickhills, Woburn, Woburn Sands, Aspley Guise Caldecotte, Walnut Tree, Browns Wood, Old Farm Park, Tilbrook etc. Environmental Services reported no dogs involved in RTAs in the last 10 days, apart from the poor dog I went to see this morning. I've left a poster with HULA and spoke to Aylesbury and Luton Dog warden service. I've just left a message for the Parks Trust and Network Rail. There will be an ad in the Citizen this Thursday. Again, we do appreciate all your help and feel terrible that Poppy could be out there, lost and alone or in pain. Hopefully someone has taken her in and even if we don't see her again, she will be looked after.

we have just had reports from Vets in Stony Stratford of a deceased black dog near to the tip at Blakelands in a gateway - Poppys owners have just been to see but thankfully it is not her but a large balck shepherd type - so the search continues

I had another wander around after work and put a couple more posters up. Definitely need more posters in the area as there are so many people who walk from the industrial estate to the lake every lunchtime. Spoke to the burger man in the car park by station too and some more dog walkers. She needs finding soon before it gets too wet and cold. Don't know if the owners are ready any of these posts but a poster in the local paper would also help a great deal. Keep safe little girl. x

Poppy was not at the kennels today but took a colour poster and kennels are aware of her - spent about an hour and a half cycling around the lake area and through caldecotte/tilbrook but did not see any signs - spoke to a few walkers but they were all aready aware - think that you need some of the doglost posters with the red missing wording on as they grab the eye more

Put a couple of posters up in car park by the crossing and down Caldecotte Lake Drive. Lots of lunchtime walkers from the industrial estate walk down that road so owners could spend tomorrow lunchtime in that area handing out leaflets or just asking people and showing the poster. No sightings to report - sorry. Lots of barking coming from the back of the stables riht by the crossing so maybe worth trying there regularly although it's probably the owners dog/s. Keep safe Poppy, we are trying.

Just been out for 2 hours around Caldecotte, Walnut Tree and Tilbrook, but no sign, I only saw one poster! tomorrow after 1.30pm I will go there again and put some more posters up.Has anyone contacted the Walnut Tree vets? Is she familiar with this area? I will keep in contact - I now have owners mobile number

I can't believe she is so close to where I have been the last two days. Probably not helping that she can't hear me. I'm going to take my Spaniel to work tomorrow as I work in Caldecotte and we will walk around at lunchtime. I'll also get posters out around there. walked along the grass verges and the deep ditch from Bow Brickhill to the level crossing - will try and walk the rail line from Bow Brickhill to Woburn Sands early in the morning after the 1/2 hour train, as you say Rachel if she has gone up the hill towards the Brickhill woods it is going to be difficult to spot her, if anyone is walking from any of the car parks on Sandy Lane, Church Road can you please take posters as there will be a lot of walkers again tomorrow if the weather stays bright. All of the riding stables need to be visited - especially the pony trecking place at the far end of the village as they have loads of riders out on Sundays. Just a thought - Dave's mobile barber was parked in the layby near the pub on Thursday night - he may possibly have seen which way she went, also I am sure that it was Thursday evening that the police speed trap was parked up there - again maybe they may have seen something if asked ( I am sure they will be back a couple of time this week)

Hi, sorry, didn't see anything. With so much wood, she could be anywhere. Lots of potential for loads more posters in the area - including leafleting the houses in Bow Brickhill and the farms & stables. Ask if you can attach posters to the front gates of the stables as there are so many visitors and passing dog walkers. I'll have another outing tomorrow. Stay safe Poppy. x

Poppy is Elderly and Deaf, Arthritic - she is very friendly - she disappeared into the darkness as owners were taking their 2 dogs for a walk and has possibly wandered into BRICKHILL WOODS - a possible sighting on LANGERSTONE LANE heading towards Woburn yesterday, If she has headed that way she may well be able to get food from the golfers at Woburn.
