Oh I am SO happy!!!! Bless her! So, maybe it was that other dog they all saw and poor Beau was stuck to the tree all the time? This is why she couldn't come back to you. Love her! Mummy's instincts may have been right all along. Sounds like the tree was in the Orchard area? Must be a big orchard! Well done to the farmer and well done you! You made it through and you have the result you all needed! Well done Peggy. Beau knew she had to be back for today - I think someone up above arranged it for you! The best birthday ever!!!! Welcome back little Beau, bless you little one! No running off again! :-) Bet Benjie is happy too!Last edited: 2011-06-15 13:09:17 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

(How do I put Beau on the found list?

Hubby's mobile network is not working so he's off to town to get it fixed. My mobile number is: 07979444803 but reception in orchards/woods is poor.
I'm off to take Benjie on his walk around the orchards and will be re-scenting the route home. I'll leave some food today, some Tuna (until I've been shopping to get some pilchards).
Opened my Birthday cards this morning, to find a 'Happy Anniversary' card from my mum. It was our wedding anniversary on Monday 12th, and both hubby and I completely forgot :(

Oh Peggy, so sorry she's not back yet, but you are very close. It probably is Beau! Now, try leaving some food (possibly water too) at the Orchard (although foxes may eat it). If the food gets eaten keep leaving it there. If she knows food is in the area she will return more often. You may need to get out there at dawn and watch as they often come out when no one's about much. Or even at night - do shifts. Some dogs, go a little noctural and some carry on normally. Brilliant that Benjie is out with you - you could take Benjie to those fields you think Beau went to as she could just pick up his scent naturally if she's there. Work on the food and the orchard. And, do not stop postering - even if you think its a lot, make it a lot more! Well done so far. Wish I was closer to help you myself. Just postpone your birthday till Beau is home! Unless of course she turns up tomorrow! Fingers, paws and everything crossed. xLast edited: 2011-06-15 01:41:43 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

If you know Beau comes back to the orchard, we can possibly work on a trap if she doesn't see you or come to you (they can go into survival mode and hide sometimes) but you need to be certain Beau comes there first. We'll work on that if needed but hopefully you'll have her by then. We need to wait and see what sightings you get next. I have scented from area she was lost towards home (as has Benjie too).
A near neighbour said he thought he may have heard barking in the orchard area Monday at about 2:30am, his house overlooks where she was first lost from.
I have said if he hears it again to phone us anytime during the night so we can look. Fingers crossed she is still nearby, it is my birthday tomorrow and having her back would be the best present ever.
Peggy
Thank you Liznhar, Our Labrador Benjie often visits Tyler Hill ( in search of a bitch!!), So I think I know the area you mean, good suggestion thank you.

liznhar
I often walk my dogs from Tyler Hill through to Broad Oak. It might be worth putting some posters up at the playing field in Tyler Hill as that is where most people start the walk through the woods and fields to Broad Oak.There is also an entrance to that walk(along a single track paved road) at the small roundabout where you turn off to the university so posters in that area would also be useful.

Peggy, no that will be fine. But don't cast the net too wide or she'll be all over the place! Do a lot of the other scenting that Dee and the info I sent says, in the area she was lost and the area she was seen to bring her back inwards. Don't do it outwards yet as you may send her out further. Check the fields - any farmers out that way? Tell them. You are doing well, keep going and POSTER!!!!!! You WILL find her. The more people that know about her the better. Keep checking in with the authorities & Highways etc as sometimes they forget. Don't worry about pestering them - they won't forget you then! :-) Come on littl eone, where are you?? Mummy's still waiting! xLast edited: 2011-06-14 13:46:35 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Hubby's got more details. It appears Beau chased a car out of the orchards, then two young lady joggers tried to catch her. The lady my son spoke to was gardening at the time and Beau approached and she patted her thinking she belonged to the joggers. They said they were trying to catch her. She was not sure of time but we think this was soon after she first ran off. She doesn't recall Beau having a lead but did see she had a collar on. (Maybe Beau broke her lead off)
Hubby is now searching the fields opposite the Sweechgate stores, across hernbay road.
A black dog not thought to be Beau was spotted in this location going into the field, chunkier than Beau and with a red collar. I will clarify what day/time this other dog was seen and when I know I will post details.
Peggy
Received the scenting advice email thanks.
Peggy
Will it confuse her if I put more than one scenting item out? ie: My sweatshirt, a piece of hubby's clothing, her bed blanket?
Thanks
Peggy
Hubby has been to speak with lady who our boys spoke to yesterday, to get more details, but she's not in at the moment.
We need to know who the two ladies chasing her are, what time Beau was seen Sunday, if she still has her collar / lead attached and which direction she was last seen going.
Last night the knot in my stomach eased, knowing she has been seen, so not trapped in woods, but it has returned this morning, it's hard to stay positive but your knowledge of how dogs behave in such situations is really helping me to try to be positive and hopeful. She seems so close yet so far :( ThanksLast edited: 2011-06-14 10:49:30 by Peggy
Peggy
Thank you for all your support. I am not very good at judging distance but here goes.
Area she was lost is about 5 mins walk from our house, into the orchards. Yes the orchard (my boy max) left of Heel lane. There is a car track into the orchards and so we think that she may have chased a car out of the orchard, and turned right into Mayton Lane, along past the Golden Lion pub and straight ahead along Sweechgate road, which is minutes away from our house. ( turn right at Golden Lion to our house, she ran straight ahead)
I put food and water in our garden last night leaving the back gate open hoping she is close by. (being careful that our labrador doesn't get out)
We have done a door to door leaflet drop and continue to do so today to further afield. Posters up at bus stops.
If she continued running up Sweechgate road and the ladies didn't catch her then she could have crossed the main Hernebay road which would take you into fields / housing at the top end of Sturry. This is unknown ground to her, so is Sweechgate, her normal walk is around the orchards, woods, off Neel lane.

I have placed a sweatshirt by the place she first ran, she does chase tractors, motorbikes and cars (especially diesel ones)
Dee, I've seen the scenting advice about leaving an item near where she was first lost, and the triangle concept. Thanks.

Peggy hope that Kimmybear's scenting instructions have got to you - not sure you saw my earlier message but if you have those instructions then my comments about her trying to get home and asking how far from home it is will make sense... if you can let us know we can work with you to try and work out the plotting of scent. (if she's not been taken in by the ladies) :) x
my boy max
went over there about 8pm and found a HEEL LANE
of mayton lane walking up hell lane there is an orchard on the left is this the right area..

Brilliant news, Peggy! I am so pleased. Okay, keep on with the posters - poster everywhere - don't stop until she's home (of course then you have to take 'em all down, but who cares!). Now what you need to do is plot her course. Dogs do a triangle. Mark down where she was seen and where she was lost then watch for the next place she is sighted. Sometimes they take days to do this, other times hours. You are half way there! Have you left something around the lost area so she can smell you? Poster the area she was seen in and I suggest that you poster further along that way as well - you need to predict where she could go to next, not forgetting that she WILL come back to the place she was sighted and back to where she was lost eventually. This is a fact, so hang in there and keep postering and make her known EVERYWHERE you can! Keep safe little one. Peggy, I'm going to send you some information on scenting; please read it - it will help you. Keep us informed. Good luck and come on Beau, back you come - Mummy's waiting! x

My two eldest boys were in tears, distraught 1/2 hour ago so I sent them out with small leaflets to put in local doors. Whilst out a lady spoke to them to say "Two ladies were seen yesterday trying to catch Beau along Sweechgate Road, Broad oak, they said that if they catch her they will try and find out where she is from. WE HAVE HAD A SIGHTING :)
Good news in that she is not caught up anywhere, maybe she got out of her collar. I will keep you informed of any further progress. So please anyone in the SWEECHGATE BROAD OAK, STURRY AREA of Canterbury please keep looking. Thank you.

Peggy how far is this from your home? She's likely to be heading home (if we assume for now she's not caught). we might be able to work out where she is going to and from. People search and rescue dogs can't search for dogs - they are trained to human scent and can't he retrained to dogs - it distracts their noses and can ruin their people searching ability. Don't panic yet, terrier types are adept at keeping themselves going for ages on the run x
Peggy
Thank you Terence, I have sent them an email. Hopefully they will help with finding dogs, but I think they might look for people only.
TerenceT
Peggy - Try contacting these people http://www.nsardacantech.org.uk/ It's the Kent Search and Rescue lot. They have trained dogs.

Thank you Terence
Peggy
Thank you Kimmybear for your positive words. Posters are out, contact made with all suggestions. Our fear is that she is trapped somewhere :(

I have posted Beau's details on Twitter as an urgent appeal. Will follow up with a request for tracking assistance.

Sorry to see that Beau is missing. Pls read all the information below and act on it immediately. Ensure you poster heavily in the area that Beau was lost, leave something of your's nearby as they usually come back if they can, at some point, and will know your scent. This will keep her in the area. You CAN get her back! Other thing is, are there any water areas or railway lines or roads nearby? If there are, you need to call Network Rail for any dog sightings, the same with the Highways Agency for your area, just to check. Most important is POSTER. I know it is hard to concentrate in a situation like this, but get those posters out as they will alert everyone & it is the public that leads us to sightings of lost dogs. We will see if there any helpers in that area for you. (DogLost I'm at work & can't request text alerts etc). There may be some sniffer dogs around, I don't have that information but lets see if anyone else knows. In the meantime check local Vets and Rescues or Yellow Pages to see if they know of any. Maybe contact Dogs Trust or Canine Registry of Behaviourists in case they have some on file - worth a try. But, if she is caught on something, she will probably just stay there till you can find her. Dogs are amazing, just see some of their stories on this site, so just do what you can and come back here regularly to check in. We can help and you CAN find her. x
