Hi ellejay. don't worry I would have telephoned you if I hadn't been able to track Spike down by Monday (just thought you were away on holiday)! I wondered if you were still working at Elmers End and so you've answered my question. Hope you get your email problem sorted soon.Last edited: 2011-05-13 16:17:21 by Millys Mum

OMG i am so sorry i never saw this...

I live in Bromley, but always over Elmers end way due to family and i also work in Elmers end, cannot believe i did not know about his, so sorry i could not help. Due to emails not working properly at the moment i have been out the loop.

Though thank god you got him back, Well done Wendy for helping owners at this horrible time, so glad to see this gorgeous boy is home now.

You never know, i may even see him going for walks round the area xx

Well done Sarah for helping this poor woman - I'm sure we all wish her a very speedy recovery but how lovely that one of our newest DL Helpers was able to spring into action! I'm sure you're right by saying that some things really do happen for a reason. You really are amazing people because it must be very difficult, at times, to get some things out of your head, especially when the pets also become involved.Last edited: 2011-05-12 14:54:48 by Millys Mum

You wont believe this but..... I had a patient this week and i cant go into too many details but her "man" set fire to her bed whilst she was sleeping in it, bless her, awful injuries but the thing that upset her the most....her two dogs had got out and run away amongst the mayhem. BECAUSE I had been looking for Spike I had all the numbers on my phone and could call asap and guess what we found them! She was so grateful.I try not to worry about my patients as i would be a nervous wreck but cant help wonder some things happen for a reason and she has been on my mind! She said her life was worth living now as she at least had her dogs with her. So pleased i could help her! Thanks Wendy for those numbers.

lovely update Sarah & Jeff - I can almost see Spike making off with the chicken (knowing full well that he will be able to get away with it for a few more days ). Really please that you will both stay on as helpers especailly as you are often out and about when the city is quieter you may spot some of our runaways and be able to post sightings which will help owners. It has been our pleasure working with you and so nice to have happy owners posting to the page & you will in turn I am sure be able to offer support to other owners in the future. XX
sarah
Cant thank ALL of you enough for helping us to locate Spike! He was very subdued when he got home and has lost a lot of weight and flinched loads.... he ate half a fresh chicken (didnt need it for MY lunch anyway Spikey) had a good sniff around and slept for hours after kisses! SOOOOO wonderful to hear his claws on the laminate floor this morning when my alarm went off at 4.30am.....I was exhausted but so so happy and called him upstairs where he went mad on the bed! Thankyou thankyou THANKYOU ALL of you for your support care and love. Jeff and I will remain on the site and do all we can to help future lost dog owners cos it really is so horrid spending hours looking. What a wonderful organisation "we" have and for once in our lives a fantastic "Ending"

Grateful and happy
Sarah, Jeff and Spike.....WOO HOO x

Have just received a lovely (and unexpected) bouquet of yellow, orange and peach flowers from Spike's 'Mum & Dad' as well as a thank you card and balloon. As I've said, it was a absolute pleasure to help them and I look forward to meeting them soon down at 'our local', The Jolly Woodman!

Oops what am I thinking of! I forgot to also say a great big THANK YOU to Angus for all your help. It was lovely 'working' with you again...x

I've only just discovered the text messages on my phone (really don't know how I missed them!)but how lovely to hear the news!!! I just love the reunited piccie. It was an absolute pleasure to help and support Spike's family, especially when they help so many people in their 'job' every single day. I'm also pleased to hear that Spike will be receiving a chip and a nice, new shiny ID tag as a welcome home present. And finally... thank you to one of our truly, caring dog wardens who was there for us late last night and to the holding kennels who looked after him so well until he was returned home.
hamish&katy

Really pleased to announce that Spike is now back home with his very happy owners - he will be getting a chip and a nice new tag for his collar ~ hopefully owners will be sending over a reunited picture when they come back to earth.

Big thanks to Millys Mum for all your support and late night calls & to a very special dog warden who helped us last night at 10 o'clock xx

Hi All. I am so glad to hear Spike has been found. I will remove him from my missing list. Many thanks.
Millys Mum
I had a text from Sarah which said that someone (I don't know at this stage whether it was Bromley Council or SDK) had forgotten to pass on the release message and so poor little Spike has had to spend another night in kennels. When Sarah paid the release fee yesterday via credit card, she asked whether their next door neighbour, who has a key to their house, could 'receive' Spike back to his home but the answer was NO. This is just so upsetting and frustrating for Spike's owners. Of course, they are pleased that he was picked up and kept safe and warm but Sarah called the Council/SDK at 2pm (after searching for an hour for him) and Spike was picked up (it seems) by SDK at 3pm but it would appear that they was unable to match the lost/found details. The thing is, we live in an area where it's extremely rare to see a stray dog and yet 'they' were unable to tie up a lost, 7 year old, entire male, Border Terrier with a found one fitting the same description!!! What a worry - perhaps they need to go on a dog indentifcation course.
Millys Mum
Owners have just heard that Spike's release hasn't been authorised (the release fee was paid HOURS ago) and so, sadly, they have to wait until tomorrow for his homecoming...
Millys Mum
Spike's owners are still waiting for SDK to arrive or, at least make contact, as promised! They need to get up at 4.30am tomorrow morning to starts their shifts and since they haven't been successful in making contact with SDK, they are at a loss as what to do! It's such a shame that it's spoiling Spike's much anticipated homecoming.Last edited: 2011-05-09 22:13:30 by Millys Mum

Brilliant News & a BIG THANK YOU, Millys Mum for all your help and support for Spikes owners ~ looking forward to the update once he is home xx
Millys Mum
I just had a call from Sarah who's eagerly awaiting Spike's homecoming via SDK Environmental and she will post a message (and send a reunited piccie) once they've set eyes on him. She is very grateful to DL and has promised to stay on as a Helper, which is always good news. Thank you Angus for picking up on this one and for sending the mini-flyers so promptly but which are happily no longer required!Last edited: 2011-05-09 20:28:51 by Millys Mum

Had further confirmation that this Border Terrier was found and picked up from the Elmers End area on Friday and so all looking pretty positive. Have just spoken to one VERY excited owner who is about to call Bromley Council. I will post again once Spike is actually back home. I believe the form is that SDK environmental will deliver the dog back once the holding fee has been paid. And so that's a good start to the week.
DogLostAngus
fingers crossed xx

Following a telephone conversation this morning I've just received a call back to say that it seems that a male Border Terrier was picked up in the Bromley area by the dog warden service 'over the weekend'. I've just left messages with owners to call me back. In the meantime, I will make further enquires and will let you know once we have confirmation that this dog is Spike! Fingers crossed...
DogLostAngus
sorry got a call in the middle - rest of details updated - small hand out posters made up and sent to owners and to Millys Mum for distribution hope that tomorrow brings some news x
Millys Mum
Cheers Sandy. Thanks for adding the reward money - would you also add the word 'pounds' after the amount and add Elmers End before 'Beckenham' and add North Kent after 'Beckenham'. I will let you know if a second contact number can be added when I hear back from Sarah and whether Spike is entire or not. Also would you add that Spike went missing from home (he escaped via the back gate) and home is close to the large Tesco Store next to Elmers End station and also not far from the South Norwood Country Park. I will ask Baggy Dog to keep her eyes peeled as close to her although I suspect she will pick up on Spike's missing status very soon. When I spoke to Sarah today she said that they had been out searching, postering and speaking to people for several hours today. There is a possible lead in South Norwood which is being followed up. Sarah has called all dog wardens, Battersea, etc but has been frustrated, as being the weekend, there's no-one around until tomorrow. As Angus has mentioned, both owners are dedicated members of our caring ambulance service and, as they will be working long shifts over the next 3 days, they would appreciate as much help as possible. I have given Sarah some more telephone contact numbers but they are relying on an elderly family member to make these calls. I will do as much as I can and will speak to both Woodlands Kennels & Foxgrove vets tomorrow. I have also advised Sarah to call Network Rail (and obtain reference number), the Council's street cleansing dept and to try to keep a regular eye on the usual websites i.e. Gumtree, Pets4Homes, epupz, ukclassified and preloved. I'm sure Spike's family would appreciate it if other DL Helpers could also keep a watchful eye on these sites. I'm also hoping that Helper, ellejay is around to advise and help.

Thanks for the call Millys Mum and for all your help with Spike ~is there anyone else who can help with postering and talking to dog walkers tomorrow whilst owners are at work ? Owners are part of our wonderful ambulance service so have to be on duty as normal
