Could be, didn't include my full details as I thought Mutts in Distress had enough to do without thanking me. Latest update on Max on Mutts web site looks promising and he looks happier in his latest picture. He must be so stressed by all the changes, just hope he can find a good permanent home.
Jo - Area Co-ordinator, Essex
Message from Mutts in Distress for a Mrs Mallett – thank you very much for your kind donation, it is much appreciated (I suspect that may be you Maggie?!).

Max is doing well. x

THANKS BAZ1 FOR THE UPDATE. SO GLAD MAX IS BEING A GOOD BOY AND HERES HOPING HE WILL SOON HAVE A NEW LOVING HOME-HE SO DESERVES IT.
Baz1
Good news so far!! Saturday Max was collected & transported to 'MUTTS in DISTRESS' that is run by Pat of Normadale Kennels, Bishops Storford. I am eternally grateful - spoke to Pat yesterday & said Max is being good in kennels & had travelled well. She will be undertaking her own assessment before deciding on next step. It looks like he will have a fantastic opportunity & a '2nd chance'. I have to confess to 'checking them out' with local Dog Warden etc - thus they come recommended.
As I know more about his progress I will keep you posted. I'm know Pat would appreciate any financial support toward neutering etc. MANY MANY thanks for all your interest & helpful sugeations.
bossyboots
Baz1, any definate news? Please let Max find someone who can love him and give him the guidance he needs. Wish I had room for him.

dogs trust head office phone number is 02078370006.....otherwise go onto their website and contact the nearest centre to the area where Max is. I do hope something can be done to secure a place for this handsome boy.
gingernuts mum
Can you please contact dogs trust...they may be able to help. Altho', they have said the dog would have to be signed over to them...possibly by the owner....but please call them......best of luck .
dewilliams42
IT SAYS HE IS POSSIBLY A ROTTIE CROSS.IF THE WORST COMES TO THE WORST HOW ABOUT A DOG SANCTUARY? BUT ONE WHERE HE WOULD HAVE FREEDOM, COMPANY OF OTHER DOGS AND HUMAN INTERACTION.
lf2000
shame we dont know what he is crossed with... i mean if it was a rottie we could try rottie rescues???
lf2000
Unfortunately ddbwelfare cant take him :(
Julie B
If you decide to set up a collection to help Max stay in kennels for longer to allow for a home to be found for him ..... please count me in. How much time does this gorgeous boy have left ? Julie x
lf2000
have contacted the below... thanks smudge74.. fingers crossed for poor max!!!
smudge74
Have you contacted these:

http://www.ddbwelfare.org.uk/
magda
shall we set up a little collection enable for him to stay on or offer to contribute to his upkeep if somebody would be able to take him forever...I would be prepared to give £5 a week long term to stop this wonderful looking dog from staying in kennels...
pointerlover
Just a thought but does Country Life magazine have a space for adverts or do you think that they would run a feature on Max as he needs a special country home ?
Baz1
Thank you for all the suggestions. I have been contacting the rescues & keep getting promised calls back - none so far. His last free day at Charney kennels is THURSDAY 9th !!!!!!!! This may be a reflection of how un-rehomeable he is in the current times - I don't want to see him stuck in a kennel for life, that would not be fair.

I have passed your suggestions on,,,,,Max is safe for the time being as far as I know ,but we do need to find a forever home for him,,so its ongoing for the now.

Thanks guys xxx
dewilliams42
WORTH LOOKING INTO AS TIME IS RUNNING OUT. THE REHABILITATION BIT SOUNDS AS THOUGH IT MIGHT SUIT MAX TOO.
Hamish
I know it's a long way, but Normandale Kennels, New Barn Lane, Little Hallingbury (just off J8 of M11) may help. I was speaking to someone only today who told me they take in "death row" dogs - she works with their rehabiliation - and no dogs are put down. Worth a try if desperate.
Julie B
I agree - if he is now on a waiting list for a place could we not all chip in to give him some extra time until one of these spaces becomes available ? It does seem after so much has been done to save him in the first place - to give up now would be wrong, especially as he is now close to having somewhere to go. He is such a gorgeous boy and really does deserve a chance. xx
dewilliams42
PERHAPS WE WILL HAVE TO CONSIDER EMERGENCY BOARDING AGAIN IF MAX MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT FOR A PLACE. IT WOULD BE SUCH A SHAME IF WE COULD'NT SAVE HIM. HE WOULD LIKE A HOME ON A NICE COUNTRY ESTATE IF ANYONE IS AVAILABLE TO OFFER HIM ONE?
Millys Mum
Divadone - thanks for calling Happy Endings and also for contacting Ironmountain Large Breed Rescue. I do hope that a space becomes available at one of them. They are nice people and used to help at The Retreat Rescue near Sidcup. Fingers crossed for Max.Last edited: 2011-06-05 15:52:39 by Millys Mum
Divadon
I rang Happy Endings rescue today and they have no space at the moment, although they have put Max on a waiting list if a space becomes available. Max has been put on Ironmountains facebook page but it looks like they are really full at the moment too. So, we are still looking for a place for Max.
shazzyk
Have you tried Ironmountain large breed rescue. I know they are pretty chocker at the mo but may be able to help.
dewilliams42
THERE ARE SOME RESCUES(THINK DOGSTRUST MIGHT BE ONE) WHO TAKE DOGS WHICH CANNOT BE REHOMED FOR VARIOUS REASONS ALTHOUGH I DONT THINK MAX WARRANTS THAT- HE JUST NEEDS A HOME WHERE HE CAN BE TAUGHT WHAT IS/IS NOT ACCEPTABLE
Millys Mum
What about trying Happy Endings (Hailsham & Sevenoaks) - a newish animal rescue run by Terry, a veterinary nurse and his partner Chris. I know Terry and am wondering whether they might be able to help Max. I could call him but it might be better for someone to phone them who has knowledge of Max's assessment test, etc. If someone speaks to Terry (Chris doesn't know me), feel free mention that Wendy (Rottie & NZ Huntaway owner), from 'Foxgrove Road Veterinary Centre days' suggested contacting them. Fingers crossed for Max.

This is just so, so sad.... and all because his original owners no longer want him. People should realise a dog is for life and not just while it is a puppy. I really hope that a new home or rescue place can be found for Max - he is gorgeous. x
dewilliams42
HE CERTAINLY LOOKS AT HOME WITH HIS FRIEND IN THE PICTURE.HE COULD DO WITH A NATIONWIDE APPEAL FOR A NEW HOME BUT SOMEONE WHO HAS PLENTY OF GROUNDS AND OTHER DOGS.
AND TIME OF COURSE TO CONTINUE HIS TRAINING. AN APPEAL LIKE THIS WOULD ALSO BE AN ADVERT FOR DOGLOST AND THEIR WORK. I DO HOPE SOMEWHERE CAN BE FOUND FOR HIM.
Hamish
I have placed his ad on the horse and hound forum to see if there's anyone there who could help. Would he get on with another female dog and where is he ? Would hate to think of a young dog being PTS through no fault of his own.
Divadon
I met Max at his assessment and what a lovely dog he was. He just needs an experienced home to show him what is expected of him and this will give him his chance to shine. Max has the potential to be a fab dog. There has got to be the right home out there for him.
lf2000
OH BUGGER......... Poor Max... Will post around.
Baz1
He is stunning. I've seen him with several new people & once outside his kennel have NOT wittnessed ANY agression to people. He is strong on lead but curious. My feeling (for what it's worth)from him is that he lacks experience with life & just doesn't always know what is appropriate. So grateful to behaviourist for her work & positive input. Seeing him with his new friend certainly brought a tear to my eye. Just hope he can be found a stable, suitable environment to allow him to progress & blossom... and share his passion for playing ball & cuddles.
Shereen
This GORGEOUS boy just needs some one experienced.Ive read the assesment and it realy is not bad at all just look at him in the photo,he looks realy pleased with himself and its probably the first time hes been trusted like this.Thank you Ruth for taking the time to assess this gorgeous boy its very much appreciated!now got my fingers crossed again!,poor chap he realy does deserve a chance with an owner who understands a dog like him. this is how his assesment ends......In all honesty if I personally had the room I would have him in a shot! However sadly I don’t.

DogLostReynard
Oh! dear Max is back looking for a home all the rescues and offers have fallen through!
Max has now had a proper assessment he does guard & lunge at other dogs but once properly introduced is a lovely boy, the guarding is probably the breed and the fact he has not been socialised as puppy or probably ever! Therefore most general Rescue could not take him due to the commitment needed before rehoming and is not a fault they are just being realistic.
Max now NEEDS a home that is used to the large breeds and is prepared to do some training.
If anyone interested bearing in mind his 7 days and months free board is now up, can have a copy of the assessment. Last edited: 2011-06-03 08:36:53 by Reynard

THANKS SHEREEN, HAVE BEEN THINKING OF HIM AND WONDERING IF ALL WAS GOING WELL FOR HIM.
Shereen
Lots going on behind the scenes here for Max....were getting there...thought id post an update so those who care arnt wondering ;o)
dewilliams42
ME TOO. HE DESERVES IT.
Shereen
Ive just tried calling the kennels but no answer ATM but will try in a while, got my fingers crossed he was a good boy!
dewilliams42
any news how max got on with being dog tested? hope everything is ok.
DogLostReynard
Yes Sheeren 60 KGS LOL! :)

Good luck Maxie boy ,keep us updated on how he will be getting on p l e a s e xxxx
BC
Max is being Dog Tested over the weekend, ive just had an email from the council to this effect, so not sure what has happened since i spoke to the kennels and rescue
Shereen
Thank you so much for sorting this BC! and many thanks to Pauline also!!.If Max is anything like my DDB x Rottie he will be a right sweetie,Reynard im sure you meant to say 60 kgs!and big fingers crossed this all works out.XXX
BC
Sorry forgot to say, thank you Pauline, you are a star !!!!!!!!!!!
BC
Ive spoken to the council, they are happy with the dog going to Hollyhedge, its one of their approved rescues, so ive put the kennels and the rescue in touch, photos have been sent to rescue, and council have agreed to transport him if need be, so all looking good for Max
DogLostReynard
Thanks Sheeren & BC seems he has turned into a sweetie all 60lbs off him! xxx
BC
Shereen asked me to see if i could find this boy a rescue space.
Ive spoken to Pauline at Hollyhedge, and as long as he has no major issues, ill contact dog warden and put them directly in touch with one another
dewilliams42
THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW. SO HOPE ALL GOES WELL FOR HIM.
DogLostReynard
No news from DDB rescue, I expect they are working behind the sceens but we have not heard anything from them or anyone else as yet ?
dewilliams42
HOPE THINGS ARE PROGRESSING SMOOTHLY FOR MAX AND HE GETS THE CARE HE NEEDS-POOR BOY.
Shereen
No donations needed yet thank you (see Reynards post 9/5/11),people still working behind the scenes trying to get this boy into an experienced foster home/Rescue,we will update once we know. : )
pointerlover
Any news on Max? Do we need to start sending in donations yet? If so where too ?.xxx
dewilliams42
HI, JUST WONDERED HOW SHEREEN AND DW WERE GETTING ON WITH THE OPTIONS THEY HAD FOR MAX?
dewilliams42
LETS HOPE HIS PROBLEMS ARE CORRECTABLE. I DID NOTICE THAT DOGS TRUST(THE ONE IN BRIDGEND AT LEAST) AND SOME OTHER RESCUES TAKE DOGS WHICH CANNOT BE REHOMED DUE TO BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS AND WHO LIVE THEIR LIVES SEPARATE FROM THOSE LOOKING FOR HOMES. IT MIGHT BE WORTH THINKING ABOUT IF THE WORST PROGNOSIS HAPPENS. BUT AS HE IS YOUNG HE HAS MORE CHANCE OF BEING TRAINABLE.
DogLostReynard
I think its more that they dont know what he would be like in a different environment as you can not be sure the x owner is being entirely truthful , he does get all noisey when passing his kennels but other wise I dont know any more ,but that may just be kennel life although Charneys are doing thier best Max is only young so he can learn to be good xxLast edited: 2011-05-09 21:42:17 by Reynard
Julie B
That is really good news - what lovely people they are at the kennels. Hopefully now someone will be able to help Max to find a forever home. Good luck Max you gorgeous boy. Julie xx
dewilliams42
that is really fantastic of the kennels and it gives this boy a good chance. was it just his behaviour towards other dogs as he seemed to be good with his human friends? hopefully some training will help him-probably has'nt had the correct start in life and taught what is acceptable and what is'nt. good luck max. xx
Shereen
What a lovely thing for Charney Kennels to do Thank You!...X
DogLostReynard
Tulip yep without going into detail I think they would prefer someone that knows the breed as he is not without issues,,,,,,however there is good news there are some options DW & Shereen are still hoping for BUT the Kennels that he is at has offered to waver the fee for Max for a whole month,,, which is absolutly wonderful!!!!!!!!!! So he has some time :)
This is not the Pound BTW but Kennels that are used when the pound is full and/or has something like Kennel Cough which they have at the moment! They are called Charney Kennels, Stanford Road,Faringdon
Oxfordshire,

Have been off the radar for a few days. Was really surprised to see this boy was still at risk. I gave all my details and the rescue details to the DW. Maybe that rescue wasn't prepared to take a dog with issues. I really hope something pans out for this lad. If I can help at all I am willing!
Shereen
Max has options hopefully but will not know any more im afraid until tomorrow by the looks of it...DDB Welfare have been helping as much as possible and have been lovely!

Have we got a further update on this boy yet - like if he has a rescue place or how we can make a donation so that he is safe in kennels for a while longer until something more permanent can be sorted for him ? Julie x

I am happy to make a donation towards this boy's kenneling. I can't afford much either but every little helps I suppose :)

Thanks everyone we have one last hope so just waiting for conformation, but we do need funds for his kenneling in the meantime:(
PA
Why on earth do friends offer to look after someones pet if they arent going to do it. Sad that his owner didnt turn up but hopefully someone will help him with his behaviour so he can get a good responsible home. PA.
Julie B
I have just rung and spoken to Many Tears who said that they are very full - but they try to help more local dogs in need of homes. I gave it a go - unless anyone else is able to give them a ring and try again? I feel so sad for this dog and like a couple of others I would be prepared to make a donation to help keep him safe for a while longer if we can do that. I cant afford a lot - but if we all chipped in I am sure it could be done. Has anyone else had any positive feedback from any other rescues? Julie x
dewilliams42
GOOD LUCK SHEREEN WITH YOUR ENQUIRIES- FINGERS CROSSED. YES PERHAPS WE COULD DONATE SOMETHING TO GIVE HIM MORE TIME-HES WORTH IT.
pointerlover
On the subject of Maxs training, maybe a trainer/sychologist who is following this thread would like to help and donate their time to Max?Also wondering if Swindon Police heard of Maxs plight, one of their dog trainers might be able to help him by donating some time? Max might be trained for a job with the force?
Shereen
Ill donate some money to buy him a bit more time....im in the middle of making some enquiries ,so ive still got my fingers crossed for him.
pointerlover
I do hope that Many Tears can take Max, but if not, how about everyone who has expressed that they would like to help Swindons Strays to make a donation, doesnt matter how small, to keep Max in kennels and to also engage a professional trainer to help him with his issues with other dogs.He then would stand a better chance of finding his forever home or at the very least be accepted by a rescue?
Julie B
I have never got involved in this sort of thing before as it upsets me so much - but I have found the Many Tears contact number and I will be able to ring after 10am tomorrow morning. I am sure they may be able to help with Max - especially as he is enjoying his time at the pound. I just feel so so angry with his owners who obviously have disowned him. I am down in Sussex so too far away - but if Many Tears say they will take Max - how do we go about getting him there ? I have looked on a map and it about an hour and half drive from Swindon (where I guess Max is now) to South Wales - any ideas ? Julie x

yes please try many tears-their contact details are under many tears animal rescue. i think they might help in a desperate situation if there is now where else available. every avenue is worth going down. they were going to be contacted when patch the boxer was in a desperate position. surely max's issues could be corrected with training. there is a telephone number and email address on their site. poor boy has'nt got much time.
Julie B
I have been watching this thread with poor Max. Just a thought - but do you think Many Tears Dog Rescue in Wales would be able to help him? They always have many different types of dogs on there. I just feel so sorry for this gorgous boy. Julie x
DogLostReynard
I am sure all that can be done is being done by our Dog Warden , flippin iresponsible owners are to blame for Max situation!

Max really needs to go into foster a dog that has tempermant 'issues' needs someone that knows the breed &/or is used to working with the giant breeds. I dont think a general rescue, sadly is appropriate but that is just my thinking I am no expert
All this just highlights how tuff Rescues and Pounds are having it these days :(

& yes dewilliams42 breed rescue have been asked but they are full & Max is a x
dewilliams42
JUST THOUGHT ARE THERE SPECIFIC RESCUES FOR THIS BREED OF DOG?
dewilliams42
oh dear this is sad news. what about the rescue tuulip found-binfield rescue?-could you contact them? max is such a young boy to be pts.
lf2000
Oh how sad.. I wonder if Tuulip has read this and see if the place she mentioned is able to still have him... Hope something gets sorted.... x
mrswrigs
Wallace Kennels would surely take him - I know it's miles away but would be willing to pay transport and related costs in order to save this guy! mrswrigs@hotmail.com if you can help!Last edited: 2011-05-06 21:34:39 by mrswrigs
DogLostReynard
No happy ending owner did not turn up! :) he has had several messages and one that he will be PTS
Dog Warden has had six very lovely friendly mostly entire Staffies and one that has just had puppies in this week that will also need to find homes so there is now no room at the inn for Max:(
Also it has transpired that Max used to have to where a Muzzel in publc as he would lung at other dogs, so sadly although he has had a lovely time in Kennels gets on well with everyone enjoying his freedom in the poaddock he will be PTS probably on Mon :(
Thanks everyone for trying to help this boy :)Last edited: 2011-05-06 20:22:46 by Reynard

Bit confused reading updates, so is this boy reclaimed by owner, was the owner traced or have a got it all wrong? whatever way im assuming he is safe. Clarification appreciated :-)
dewilliams42
was there a happy ending for max? i do hope so, he's a lovely boy.
DogLostReynard
Apparently a friend was supposed to be looking after him, some friend eh!

Fingers crossed for a happy reunion and hope owner knows that his boy very nearly PTS but for all the help to save him FROM YOU GUYS & OUR FAB DOG WARDEN, SO THANKS YOUR ALL ANGELS xxxLast edited: 2011-05-05 20:49:56 by Reynard

Hi, Awe thats good news hope his owner does collect him now. Wonder if theyve only just found hes there or not bothered till now? Either way a hopefully happy ending to lovely Maxs story. PA.

Just an update - the owner is aware that Max is in kennels and will, hopefully, collect him tomorrow. If he doesn't then Max's situation will be reassessed. Tuula

Hi just wondered if this missing dog is a possibility to be Max? He went missing in Warrington on the 10 April. I cant see on the pics of Max but it says the missing dog has tiny bit of white on chest & toes. Its on the animalrescuers.co.uk under lost/found on the 15 April section. I know only a slight chance but fingers crossed. PA.

Thankyou Tulip, Debs & mrswigs have sent an email to Alison our Dog Warden xxx

Well let's hope we can be of help if2000. It's not perfect as he's a big boy but I have enough space if he doesn't get on with my other 2 to keep them apart. Plus we are quite rural so a good chance of placing him with a farm or larger property. Hope he's stayed safe.
lf2000
Tuulip what a lovely thing to do.... New to all this but he was my challenge and i got nowhere.... Fingers crossed all works out well :P

I have tried to ring the dog warden to say I will foster this boy to save him. I am about 45mins from Swindon, between reading and Wokingham. Hope this boy is safe till the office opens on Tuesday.
