MacIntosh you're so right - a solid liver gsp can easily be mistaken(I've got one - they are just sooooo gorgeous) I look at Chocolate labs sometimes & have to look again!
Can only assume there was never any news on this lovely boy :-(
MacIntosh
Hope he is safe.
Looking at the photos, some folks may think he is a lab x (sorry!) Wonder if worthwhile having another page saying he could looks like ... as he could be missed here

Is there any news on Lionel? Really hope you find your gorgeous boy
ash1983
Lionel is still missing, there was an ad and a story in the paper last Wednesday and Thursday but nothing has really come of it. Three possible sightings all local, last Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Ones on Tuesday and Thursday were hopeful as 2 different people had mistaken him for another pointer and contact the owner thinking it was theirs. We have searched the local area several times again in the last week. If somebody has Lionel then I think they must be intent on keeping him as all the press and the reward have made no difference. If it is Lionel who has been spotted its only a matter of time before somebody sees him again and hopefully they will be aware of the story. Hoping and praying in the meantime no news leads to good news

Sadly 28450 was found 5th March & is liver & tan - Lionel went missing on 10th March & is liver with some white - but Jytte you're so right about how similar they look.
Ash I so hope the newspaper article brings some results & your gorgeous boy is home soon. Can you tell me how to find your facebook page please. Have you got local helpers? I'm sure you've now got lots of local numbers but if there's anything I can do long distance (research list vets numbers, kennels, rescues etc) please say.

Hi Amberpaws, thanks for you message, I too hope he is found soon, that handsome face just makes it all the worse. His missing ad went in the local paper last night and tonight they have ran a full page story (sunderland echo) so i am praying that something comes from this, if not i just dont know where we will get any news from but so long as he hasn't been found he has to be out there somewhere so I am hoping it is just a matter of time. Its a week today since this nightmare started, i just hope it comes to an end soon, we all miss him so much. GSP's just have such wonderful characters and temprements and take up so much time and attention that without him we are beyond lost

Really, really hope this gorgeous boy is home soon.
Sorry if it's stating the obvious but when asking or ringing round ask about any 'brown' dog. I have a solid liver GSP & she is often mistaken for other breeds.
I'm in Essex otherwise I would help you search. Hoping you have some good news soon. x

I have just been talking with Lionel's owner who has already done all the things I would have suggested and has notified authorities in adjacent catchment areas as well as his home area. Railtrak are aware and line has been searched. There are a lot of woodland areas in between fields, so plenty of cover, and there are also streams. Lionel is only 11 months old and just at the adventurous age so may have gone a distance. A message has been requested on local radio, hopefully this will be broadcast this afternoon.

Hi, Lionel has his own facebook page thanks to my firend, we have spoken to taxi ranks who were keen to help and we are putting posters up in bus stops etc in other towns and villages but in Seaham they are everywhere. Im hoping to get a decent sized ad in the local paper tomorrow and i will ring Sun fm tomorrow. It is so hard to believe there has been no news on him, is that good or bad? It is so heartbreaking as my daughter has learning disabilities and he was her best mate and she really doesnt understand where he is but just keeps asking and crying. Its just an awful situation.

Try to stay positive ash1983. Have you made a page for him on Facebook? Ask your local radio station to put out an appeal. As you have searched the immediate area thoroughly try postering neighbouring towns and villages in case someone has picked him up and taken him further away. Hand posters or flyers out to taxi firms, refuse collectors, postmen etc and just keep spreading the word he has to be somewhere.

Day 3 now searching for Lionel, not including Thursday night when we searched until just before midnight. We have since searched over 12 hours a day from first light until dark in the Seaham area and surrounding areas. We have thoroughly searched the area where he went missing incase he was hurt or injured but each time we are there it maked less sense why he ran ahead and wasn't there when we caught up to him. We are starting to think somebody may have taken him as despite the number of posters we have put up and people we have spoken to nobody has any information, it's as though he has disappeared into thin air. It is possible he could have ran from the dene area over a road and into fields which would head towards Ryhope but we have spoken to farmers and searched some of the fields ourselves. Each day this makes even less sense but we will not give up looking, he is a much loved and missed family pet and as well as us being devastated there is a 5 year old girl who misses him very much and doesn't understand what is going on. If somebody has picked him up he is of no use, he doesn't work or show and can't be stud, he is soley a pet. This is not a breed of dog you would normally see especially on their own so if you know of somebody who suddenly acquires a dog like this or who may have bought one in good faith please let us know. He is chipped but obviously has to be handed in first. Whether it be good news or bad we just need the phone to ring with some information as knowing nothing but searching so hard is heartbreaking.
