Huge thanks to Rileysmum for updating. Franklin has a tentative offer of a local rescue space who will hold him for the remainder of his time and then home him. The offer was made via someone else so we're waiting for confirmation but it's looking solid. In the meantime some people have come forward with dogwalking help so things are a lot brighter here and Frank's getting what he needs. He is such a lovely dog, I really hope his owners are out there looking for him although noone has reported him missing as yet. He's been a lovely houseguest even if I've been in a state with worry about him!
Rileys Mum
I suggested trying Birch Hill Rescue and they have said that they will offer him a space at the end of the 28 days. They advised that a rescue space be sought more locally in the meantime just in case an owner is out there looking for this boy. CAN ANYBODY HELP WITH POSTERING OR WALKING THIS BOY PLEASE? PLEASE HELP IF YOU ARE LOCAL TO STOP THIS BOY GOING TO THE POUND. Thank you.

In have emailed a few rescues outside your area to see whether any places are available. Waiting for replies at the moment.

Have you tried sbtrescue.org.uk ? Their number is 015395 30245..... based in the kendal area. If you find him a place, i will happily drive him there.

After recent developments with my health and inability to walk Franklin (and lack of rescue spaces in the area for staffies), we are getting to the point where we will be forced to hand him over to the dogwarden. If this happens we will ask to be with him at the end.

Hi every one this is Kathys son. She is going to be in bed for a day or two cos something went wrong with her back tonite. She asked me to go round saying thanks to every one for sharing Franks links today and tell them to ring or text on the mobile number if you need her cos she wont be on line and cant walk to the normal phone but she'll try and remember to keeop her mobile with her when shes in bed too. Thanx!
KathyMo
Thanks everyone for sharing his information. Can I just stress that we urgently need a local rescue foster space for this boy, and/or help with postering and dog walking. These are practical things that would be much appreciated. Unfortunately I am sofa-laden in agony now, and cannot do a thing. I can't take my meds because I can't focus on finding him a space on morphine. Please any help would be much appreciated. I hate having to beg but there you go, it's for Franklin not me. xx

WHAT a shame this boy couldnt have been Blue aka Boo Boo !!!! Lets hope he does have owners out there who are looking for him. I have added him to my facebook and hope if his owners dont come forward that he is found a nice new home x
KathyMo
Hi Sandra, thank you so much for ringing, I'm sad that he's not Boo, but your call shows there are great owners looking for these dogs. I wish I could find Boo for you, and that Franklin's owners are similarly devoted and looking for him. Take care xxx

I cant find him when I search on fb, great name for him :))
KathyMo
Thank you so much all of you. So far I have been contacted by a few people asking us not to refer to him as an SBT in case it prevents him getting a home. I am really sorry but I can't pretend he's something he's not, he's not a small terrier cross, he's a staffie, and IME probably full staffie too. I want him to find his old home or a great new one and the only way to do that is to be honest about him, and it's nothing for him to be ashamed of lol. We haven't managed to find him a rescue place so far. To maximise his chances, we have opened a Facebook account for him - search "Franklin Montgomery-Binks" (yes I know, but it sticks in your memory even if it is a daft full name!!).

He looks very similar to Blue 26881, because of the unusual white shape/ marking on the back of his neck, same as Blue, but this boy has a fine white line down his face, which I don't think Blue has.
well done to you for looking after him considering your own personal circumstances! I hope his owners are found soon, and you get the thanks you deserve!

Kathy i think you are tremendous what you are doing for franklin, you are putting your own problems aside to give a deserving dog a future, hopefully an owner will come forward and claim him very soon. I am over in wakefield, if i was nearer i would of loved to helped you walk him. Best of luck and wishing you a speedy recovery

I will do my best but we're going to need lots of help - I'm in agony just getting him into the garden for a wee, I wish this had happened 6 weeks from now for his sake! His rescue placement timing can be discussed now with me privately (I am aware of the 28 day rule but have discussed things with the dog warden given the problems he's facing). If anyone would like to offer some dogwalking help so we don't have to renege on our help it would be much appreciated.

Kathymo thankyou so much for helping this boy and well done for deciding to keep him for the 28 days thus giving a much better outlook for his future. I will alert other doglost co ordinators that you will be looking for a new home for Franklin.
KathyMo
"Franklin" (temporarily named off the 2011 hurricane list for obvious reasons) is not chipped and is remaining here for 28 days legally. Dog warden said if he goes into council pound it is very likely he'd be PTS. If rescues can help please get in touch.
KathyMo
I have rung the dog warden and asked them to clarify what his options are. If he gets collected he will go to Fleet Lane kennels in Bradford. I have been told that whether he is homed at the end of his stay will be down to partly his breed and also his temperament, and she was quite clear he is at risk. Instead of me handing him back to the lady that found him, they're going to come here and go through his options with me.
KathyMo
Right, I've spoken with the dog warden who are ringing me back. If he goes into kennels he will go to Fleet Lane in Bradford. I have asked them to confirm what the legal rights are of anyone who offers to hold him for 28 days.
KathyMo
Thank you both so much, I just truly wish I was more useful and able to keep him longer term. I have been advised tonight that even if we fostered him for the 28 days (probably impossible) that his old owners would be able to claim him back indefinitely? Can anyone confirm this? There's no point me trying to do things right by him if it wastes time and doesn't have a happy ending, I am so torn. I can't keep my kids and cats away from him for 28 days. I truly truly wish I could. Maybe things will look different in the morning. I will update asap, for now I am going to have to log off as I'm in agony from sitting at the laptop all night trying to sort him out. xxx
Rileys Mum
Hi Kathy, thank you for looking after him. Poor boy looks so confused :( Hopefully he is chipped. If he is not claimed & needs placing in rescue after his time is served i'll see what i can do for him. Fingers crossed for this boy! Adele x

KathyMo, thanks so much for taking the time to care for him and register him on DL and uploading photo/s. When finding a dog it is not always possible to look after them if there are other dogs/pets in the house. Keeping everything crossed there is an owner looking for him and you have more luck tomorrow when the DW has checked him over. Keep up the great work. Jan x

After some rather unhelpful and judgemental posts on Facebook, can I point out that this dog has been here less than a couple of hours, no vets are open locally and I am recovering from back surgery. If people think it is irresponsible that I "haven't bothered" to get him chip-checked I would love their help rather than their judgement - I'm doing my best here and these people aren't offering any help.
KathyMo
Northern Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue contacted via Facebook. Hopefully someone will help this chap. Seems keen on the cats so far so not looking promising for me to be able to foster him here.
KathyMo
This dog is here with me. I am currently recovering from spinal surgery, and my partner is nearly blind, so ideally we need to find him a safe rescue place to wait out his 28 days. I cannot get him to the vets for scanning so will be asking for some help in doing so tomorrow. If he is cat safe I might consider keeping him for the 28 days to spare him the pound. If he's not cat safe I can't offer this, so if anyone has any ideas please get in touch by phone at any time or by email. I can't spend much time online for obvious reasons but will try and keep things up to date. What a day! This chap is extremely scared, particularly of my son (13). God knows what he's been through.
