I'm usually the first to blame owners when a dog keeps getting loose, but i think in this boys case there is obviously no keeping him in! little adventurer out at any chance lol x
Goldenfrodo
So please this boy is safely home again x
DogLostAngus
brilliant news and thanks for the message Patsy x
Patsy
Well, I am pleased to report that Huggy Bear is home again!! Apparently he turned up this afternoon. What a relief and thank you again to everyone who put up posters, searched the woods etc. He is a very lucky little dog and his owner is thrilled to have him home again.
Patsy
Nells: regarding the gate at Huggy's home, that's the stable yard gate you see open. The garden is behind the stables and that is the one that is usually shut to keep the dogs in, but unfortunately someone left it open the other day.
Patsy
Thank you Nells - that would be great. Best to poster where people go, ie Plough at Coldharbour, Cricket Club, where the bonfire people will see posters. Stephan Langton pub people are aware as he often turns up there. If you are near Wotton Hatch or Wolvens Feed Store, then please poster there too. Anywhere where people see would be wonderful . . .Sheila, Huggy's owner, is very grateful for any help. Px
Nells
Oh dear! It's bonfire night in Coldharbour on Friday so there will be lots of people around and lots of noise, but that might scare him into hiding. I have walked through Broadmoor a few times since he went missing last time and the gate always seems to be open. I can poster around Coldharbour this evening if he hasn't come home or gone to the pub.
Angel
He's probably down the pub again! Hope he comes home soon.

Oh Dear - Huggy Bear is missing again

Message from Patsy

Huggy Bear's owner has just rung me to say that he ran off in the
woods from his house at about 4.00pm yeterday and has not been seen
since. He is tagged and microchipped and, since the last time he ran
off, has been neutered. Apparently someone left the gate open by
mistake. Will get postering as soon as his poster is updatedLast edited: 2012-10-31 09:48:55 by Angus

Glad to hear that Huggy is home. Hope he didn't run up too much of a tab at the pub! Thanks to Jayne for the call - we were very happy to get the good news. My husband says that next time a dog goes missing round here he will happily check out all the pubs!
Patsy
Nells, hope you have checked in on DogLost and heard the good news before printing off lots of posters for this morning's Surrey Hills run. Have emailed Jayne at DogLost asking her to phone you! Huggy's owner rang this morning to say he has been asleep in his favourite
chair ever since he got home . . . Px

So pleased to hear this good news, there have been so many unhappy outcomes recently.
Stay safe now little Huggy. x
Patsy
Yes! Great news - Huggy Bear is safely home with his happy owner, Sheila, and his terrier dad, Fudge. I was in Wolvens Feed Store this afternoon putting up a poster when one of the members of staff said that someone had been in earlier in the day from the Stephan Langton
pub at Friday Street and that they had found a similar dog on Monday morning outside the pub, had taken him to local vets to be scanned
and no chip showed up. So he has been staying at the pub all week. I
was busy postering pubs this afternoon and was due to go to Stephan
Langton anyway (should have done so earlier in the week of course!).
Anyway, all ended happily and thank you so much to nice pub people for looking after him. All a bit odd about the chip, especially as vets
who scanned him had already been phoned up asking if a found
terrier had been handed in. Anyway, all has ended happily and we are
all off to the Stephan Langton in the week for nice celebratory drink
(v. dog friendly pub). Now comes the happy task of taking down all those posters . . . Keep safe little Huggy. Sheila, his happy owner,
says a big thank you to all who helped get him home. Px

I am so pleased to hear Huggy Bear is safely home with his elderly owner who must have been very distressed while he was missing. Lets hope he hasn't developed a liking for beer !! J.

Well done Patsy...on enquiring today and putting up posters again...a member of the public approached and said the dog had taken up residency since Monday in a local pub..lol...worryingly they had scanned the dog but no chip showed up...80 year old owner very happy to be reunited with Huggy Bear...
Patsy
Thank you Nells, posters at start of race would be great. Lots more have gone up yesterday around Broadmoor and in NT car parks, including nice laminated ones (thanks you to whoever is doing those). Still no news and owner feeling very low, but we are still hopeful that someone has taken him in and has not come forward yet
Nells
Searched again tonight, but no sign of him. There's a 10km run on Leith Hill on Sunday starting at Surrey Hills Business Park (Wotton Hatch), going up to the tower and back through Broadmoor. We are involved in marshalling this and we'll make sure everyone sees the poster at the start.
Patsy
Thanks you Jan and Nells. Sadly, still no news of Huggy. Spoke to owner last night who says thank you to all who are helping. Have emailed poster to lots more people who, in turn, are emailing on to locals and people who know the area. All local vets, microchip company, dog wardens etc have of course been notified. Posters going up each day. Farrier, Attlees feed store have posters. Let's hope we have a result over the weekend.Last edited: 2012-06-29 10:23:56 by Patsy

any news or sightings? We will be out agin later.

I've passed on to family in the area. They will keep an eye out for him and circulate his details.
Nells
Just leaving work, will be out dog walking on the hill shortly so I will have another look this evening
Patsy
Thanks Nells. Just had phone message from owner to say no news of Huggy yet. She's feeling terribly sad and worried . . . . . .
Nells
No luck this morning but I have let a few other local dog walkers know to keep their eyes peeled.

I think we have the right picture with the curly tail. We will be out again tomorrow morning and evening having a look.
Patsy
Hooray! We have correct pic on site. Thanks Lou for organising. Px
Patsy
Thanks Nells for great postering. Have you got the right pic on poster (with curly tail)?. I seem unable to refresh page to get right pic myself. Huggy lives at the stables in Broadmoor, so you are postering in all the right places. I'll be postering in the morning (when picture probs sorted) and have emailed to lots of locals already. Huggy's owner terribly grateful to all helpers and her other little dog (Huggy's dad) misses him so much. Px
Nells
What is the Facebook link so I can share
Nells
We have postered Coldharbour, the Plough, wolverns lane to summer lightening, the top of tilling springs, the cricket pitch, and the jv hall, we have given a poster to Crockers farm and asked them to ask their horse riders to look out. There was no sign this evening but hopefully now there will be some eyes out there looking for Huggy from this direction. I could poster round Friday st tomorrow evening if needed.
Patsy
Have visited owner this evening who is terribly worried. She has recently had a hip operation and cannot search the woods herself. We searched in empty stables and sheds in case he was locked in by mistake, but no sign of Huggy. Please all locals do spread the word
and admin PLEASE put his correct photo on poster asap. Many thanks
to all who are helping . . . Patsy
PaulaK
Thanks nells much appreciated, he has no doubt gone off after a rabbit. Lots of people sharing on facebook

Thanks nells...if you press refresh you will get actual photo of Huggy Bear on the main poster photo...

(I was a Kip follower introduced to DL from FB - happy to try and help as part of his legacy)
I think I may have met Huggy when walking through Broadmoor. I can poster around Coldharbour, Wolverns lane, Cricket Pitch and of course will keep our eyes open while walking on the hill. I will also let the dog walking neighbours know so they can keep a look out too.

Message from Patsy:   Dear Jayne
Wonderful news!  Huggy Bear is home!  Have just been speaking on the
phone to happy owner. The kind family who found him in the snow and
have been looking after him brought him home this morning. The whole
family has fallen in love with him, he has been playing with their two
dogs and they even made him a little coat to keep him warm. However,
his owner says he is a bit skinny and subdued after his adventures and
I expect he will spend the whole weekend asleep with his mum and
brother. We are all so happy and relieved and Sheila, Huggy's happy
owner, says a big thank you to all DL helpers, Joe our lovely
dogwarden and the horsey and doggy network in the Surrey Hills and
beyond for all their wonderful help. I'll try to get up there soon and
get a re-union pic.  Px

Message from Patsy:
Situation update:  the found puppy, presumably Huggy Bear (we hope!) is still with his finder in a nearby village. Heavy snow in the night has resulted in Broadmoor (owner's village) still being cut off and many of the tiny, narrow Surrey Hills lanes are closed, so finder cannot return him today. Owner and finder are in contact by phone, so we are hoping for a reunion very soon . . . Very many thanks to Dog Wardens and network of DL helpers and the local horsey community for wonderful networking by email and phone. Hoping for good news soon . . . Message from Patsy:
Owner has been interviewed on the telephone by journalist from Dorking & Leatherhead Advertiser today, so something should appear in this week's paper which comes out on Thursday. I have suggested to the journalist that he contacts Jayne as well for more general info on local dog theft etc. We have managed to track down a friend of the owner who has a pic of Huggy Bear on her cameraphone, so she will email this to me and to the paper later today and then we can get this on his poster as well. Still deep snow in the Surrey Hills so we are all very worried and hope this boy has been taken in by some kind person . . .

Have notified local vets this morning (Brelades and Denbies View in Dorking, and vets in Ockley and Forest Green). Local friends are busy spreading the word and emailing each other in Coldharbour. Broadmoor, Abinger and other Surrey Hills areas. ( Debs:  so sorry to hear about your little JRT (who actually looks more like Huggy Bear than the stock pic we have used). I'll forward his details to horsey friends in the Petworth area and others in the Steyning area of S. Downs).

RE similar pictures We used a data base of similar dogs held at doglost Built up over years often we ask owners of reunited dogs if we can store their dogs picture for future use. Many are dogs belonging past and present to the coordinators on this site. The picture used fopr Huggy bear is infact Trigger who belongs to Sable Area Co-ordinator Scotland. He is also the dog featured on main site as the picture for found dogs.

Message from PatsyB (who knows owner but cant post from her Mac!) Unfortunately, there is no photo available. Male, entire, smooth haired JRT cross, tan with 2 (or 3, not sure) white socks, white patch on chest and full tail. Huggy Bear is small, short-legged,  but solidly built with quite a large head. Wearing collar, but no disc.
ID:  none, no chip, no disc, just a collar.
He ran off from stableyard at Broadmoor, Abinger Common on Friday 8 January mid-afternoon with his mother (white/tan smooth haired JRT bitch, who returned home later that afternoon).
This little puppy belongs to a friend of mine. It is a very rural, wooded area, with deep snow at the moment. We are hoping that he has ben picked up and taken in. Local pubs used by ramblers and dog-walkers (Wotton Hatch, Stephan Langton at Friday Street, Plough at Coldharbour village all informed). He has run off before and returned, so he knows the way home. Dog wardens, vets, feed stores, farrier etc being contacted.
