My husband and I went over to Pirbright Training Camp this morning and we saw the dog that has been reported by several people this week.  She is not Scout.  She is a beautiful dark brown dog with black markings and visible teats.  She has a black snout and she is large enough to be a mastiff.  She is too frightened to allow anyone to come within 20 yards, and she ran off as soon as she saw us.  One of the officers is leaving food out for her every day so she may start to trust him.  We left her a meal and we hope that she will be caught soon.  She has shelter and daily food left by the officers from the Mess.  I can't find a dog that matches the description on the Dogs Lost website, but perhaps Jayne at central office can double check?

We went over to Pirbright camp yesterday and left some posters with the lady we've been talking to. Another sighting this morning, apparently the dog is very thin, and living in a shed. The camp sergeant is trying to secure her in the shed do that we can get her. We have had a very generous offer of a lift to get her in a 4x4 because quite frankly, the roads there are a bit scary in my car. Our hopes are up. Pirbright is about 5 miles as the dog flies from us. Amber's mum, if you have any advice about how you have got Amber back to health and socialisation, we'd be very grateful. With any luck we're going to need it!

There were 2 sightings of a dog that looked like Scout inside Pirbright Training Camp this morning.  Both observers said that they could not see a collar but that they could see her choke chain.  Some builders there have been feeding a stray dog near the building site by the Basingstoke Canal within the Training Camp over the past few days.  Some of the guards at the gate said that they had seen a dog eating from bins over the past couple of weeks.  Whenever anyone approaches the dog, she runs off.  My husband was permitted access to the camp this afternoon and found an area of undergrowth where she might have been sleeping, but he could not find her.  The military personnel were extremely helpful.  We will drop more posters off to put up inside the camp, particularly in the Guardsroom and in the Spar inside the compound.  It is frustrating that we do not have access to a "tracker dog" since the Training Camp is a confined area and we know where she appears to have been today.

Hi,i am following Scout's page everyday, praying she will be reunited with her owner very soon.I cant stress enough about the excellent scent abilities the RR have.I am positive thats what bought my lovely girl back to me.Also as you are aware RR are very strong resiliant breed.Im sure Aunt Stef has let you know about scenting, believe me it works, also pilchards.Almost everytime i put pilchards in her food Amber show'ed herself to me.My beautiful girl was out for 13 weeks but i didnt give up. Come on Scout show yourself, its cold outside, come home and be in the warm.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well said Kate! Wherever Scout is, I'm hoping she hurries home soon. I need to get some more sightings so that we can pick up her trail again, although I see her every night in my dreams and still expect her to be waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me to come home every evening.

jocrane , again ,thanks for all you are doing here. Any coverage available is great,it spreads the word & can result in more sightings coming in. I found that all the companies I called when we were tracking Amber the RR in Hayes ,were so helpful. They all said they would print off posters & put them up in canteens, warehouse yards, anywhere that their staff would see them.So I would definately try & contact the surrounding companies.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

have just put a few more posters up, in brookwood which is the far side of the Bisley barracks and ranges. The area is well covered now, we just need Scout to present herself and i'm confident she will be recognized. I also spoke with a dog walking company and they will keep an eye out. Is it worth speaking to other companies in the area, and maybe putting ads in all the local papers. I wonder if there is a local army radio station?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello, just to say I have seen your poster by the entrance to Swinley Forest, by Bagshot church and we are keeping our eyes peeled. I think I have seen you walking in the Forest before? I have an English Setter. Glad to see there are positive sightings. I'll spread the word especially with doggie friends in the Bisley & Chobham area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've just come back from Bisley shooting centre. I spent ages walking around all the caravans and buildings there and putting up posters. There's a lot of shelter there for her so she may well stay in the area.  I then went to Bisley barracks and put up some posters along the main road, and in the Spar and by the community centre. I spoke to some soldiers who were out walking their dogs and they are going to spread the word.  The walking area next to the MoD land on Red Road is also well postered. Come on Scout!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks PaulaK. You're doing a great job jocrane & Scout's mum. Keep up the scenting & perhaps start putting some smelly food down at a set time in the same spot to get Scout coming to this area regularly,This will help to get a pattern that can be used to eventually catch Scout. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

great news about the sightings in Bisley, that certainly sounds like Scout. I will head over there tomorrow armed with chicken and posters! I put up more lots more posters around West End today and met a lovely lady who works at Gordons school and lives next to the field, she has some posters and will put them up around the school. There is also a poster up at the PO in Bisley and at the entrance to Bisley common. Come on Scout!    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have had 2 reports of sightings on Bisley ranges,so went over with some posters to the Barracks there today and a lady at the Sergeant's mess said she noticed a lone dog of about retriever size, but thin, on Saturday, and most noticeable was the clunk of a choke chain, which you may notice from her picture Scout always wears. The people at the club were very helpful, and will distribute posters and spread the word. Here and Windlesham golf course are very close. Paws crossed....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If Gem behaves strangely in areas then chances are she can smell Scout. I would suggest that you keep scenting in this area only and that will keep Scout in the area. It will make it much easier to track & locate her. These dogs have incredible scent ability. So dont underestimate the power of scenting. Good luck...

Jo-you are amazing! Jem (Scout's sister) and I did that area too yesterday, and she really behaved most oddly, so I think Scout had been there recently. We will get the word to Gordon's. I'm going to try to go to Bisley tomorrow, to give some posters to the guard's room there, Deepcut already aware.

Hello. I've just spent a while in the same area again and put up lots more posters, and I've added on them how to get Scout to come to you if you see her. I also went door to door in the area around the golf course and between there and halebourne road. There are a lot of houses, farms and businesses there with land and outbuildings and they now all know about Scout or have her poster. Posters up by allotments also. I really think she will be recognised now, as there are so many posters up in the area and there are many people keeping an eye out for her so fingers crossed. Have you spoken to Gordons School? I drove into there today but couldn't find the reception! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks to all who've phoned to tell me about sightings that all seem to fit together. We scented Halebourne Lane and Windlesham Rd, and put posters up at Windlemere Golf Club (sandwiches only, Scout!), and around quite a few stables. Her sister seemed very interested in the playing field between Gordon's and the Golf Club, and was quite restless when we came home. She did her fair share of scenting too. Jo, by all means change the poster as you like- Scout is very friendly to people bearing treats especially women.Really heartening weekend. Thanks for everyone's efforts!

I spent a few hours in the west end/bisley area today, driving around and putting posters up. I spoke to a few people and one man said that 4 days ago he had seen a red dog chasing a fox across a field in the area, so its all tying in. There are lots of farms and allotments around there, and some very large puddles so lots of potential shelter, food and water for Scout. I'm wondering if people might be too nervous to approach her because of her size, so I was wondering if I could add a comment to the posters about her nature so it might encourage people to call after her? This is all so encouraging as these sightings sound very much like Scout. Hope the scenting went well Sara, this really does help in keeping a dog in the area.Amber(Rhodesian Ridgeback out for 12 weeks in Hayes) really reacted to her owner's scent trails. If we can map all the sightings & get a pattern this can truly be the key to getting Scout home.Thank you for your call yesterday Wickedweims,as you said it looks as though Scout is visiting the golf club grounds as these can be a good source of food.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

When I was putting a poster up in Chobham golf course this morning, a very nice lady came over to me and said that she spotted a dog that looked like Scout near the post office in Bisley 3 days ago.  If Scout is wandering around the Bisley-Chobham area, please keep your eyes peeled!  I have informed the MoD since they own most of the open land on that side of the A322.

Looking at the area on a map, she could well have found shelter and food. I'll go across tomorrow with some scenting (smelly socks!)- maybe see you there Jo! These 2 sightings are so close to each other and in an area I don't walk her, so she wouldn't know well enough to get home from there. Fingers and paws crossed!

The potential sighting near the golf course on windlesham road  ties in with the previous sighting so that sounds like really positive news. I am not in the area today but will be back tomorrow and will head out to the area armed with lots of chicken! xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Many thanks Jo and friends- lots of Scout posters appearing all over Lightwater. I've been phoned by a lady who thinks she's seen Scout on the Chobham end of Halebourne Rd so perhaps she's roaming there. Anyone who lives that way, keep your eyes peeled. Scout loves chicken, so if anyone thinks they see her, but she won't come to them, this will win her confidence. Ring me anytime- 07999772528. Her sister is comfort eating and getting fat and needs Scout home! The dog wardenat Surrey Heath Council is on call 24h per day, so please phone them on 01276 707100- there's an out of hours  service too. Thanks to all, your support is tremendous, I really think we can bring her home.

I went to the park again yesterday and everyone i spoke to was aware of Scout so thats good news. I also put up some posters at the entrances to the park and around the roads where she was perhaps seen on Saturday. I was advised to go a bit further afield so I will put up posters in windlesham and around the Red Road area today. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no Scouty. She knows the park very well, and I am still hoping she'll come home. Everyone is being so kind, dog owners and non-dogowners alike. I wonder if anyone would put up a poster in their cars or anywhere else they can think of. I'm printing lots more out tomorrow, when the printer is back in ink, and I'll leave them in the reception at Lightwater surgery if anyone can help. Thanks to everyone for their continued support, the response has been incredible. Sara- Scout's mumLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i spent a couple of hours in lightwater country park today and spoke to the dog walkers I met about Scout but unfortunately no sightings. I also drove around the nearby roads - there are lots of properties bordering the park - I was thinking it might be useful to put the poster through their letterboxes? Also, i've heard it is good to put a piece of your clothing down where you last saw Scout, as dogs do tend to go back to the last place they saw their owners. Please let me know if i can do anything, thinking of you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
