I too can't believe another year has gone by. I often think of Simon as I drive around Bristol as it was Simons publicity that first got me involved with this wonderful website. Hope that you are still safe gorgeous boy and pray that one day you and your family are reunited. xx

Dear Simon. Another year has passed and sadly we are no further forward. I pray you are still safe and think of you and your family often. Always in my thoughts.x.

thanks Natalie, looks like this chap at RDR has now been reunited with his owners, please keep looking.

hi there, have you checkout out the black lab at rochdale? he's right down at the bottom of the list on the urgent dogs list, greying muzzle and looks very similar to Simon. As you say things are worth following up :) Natalie
Bear
Thank you everyone for continuing to search for Simon. We were hopeful that the dog in Bath might have been him and always follow everything up. Thank you Natalie for your suggestions also. You are right Dinkydoodle- he was wearing a green embroidered collar when he went missing. It had yellow embroidery with his name and number on it.
dinkydoodle
thanks Natalie, I have passed these links onto Simon's owners, I seem to recall he was wearing a green collar with his name woven into it when he went missing. Forever hopeful.x.

thanks, have looked at Rambo and it is not Simon; we've also seen Gunner in the flesh a few months ago and unfortunately he is not Simon either. Please keep looking for him - any possible matches I find I send onto Simon's owner.

there is a black labrador retriever on page 20 of the Battersea site, known as Rambo at the moment, could possibly be too young to be Simon but may be worth a look.

Met up with our bin men yesterday- they are still asking about Simon and sad that he didn't return.
Checked up Alfie's lost dogs after Dinkydoodle told me about one being found in Newcastle- thanks for that- but sadly not Simon.
Still missing him, and it is his birthday on 8th March- he will be 11.  We would always have had a cake and celebration with him.  We will think of him where ever he is.  Still want him back.

Thank you Dinky Doodle for telling me about the lab found in Northern Ireland.  Having just had a vivid dream that Simon came home, I called despite it being a long shot!  It wasn't Simon and the lady I spoke to was quite surprised to hear from me in Bristol.  We had a nice chat.
Thanks also for this Dinkydoodle

Hello to all at Doglost and to all that check Simon's page.  Just wanted to thank you all for your support, for remembering about him and for caring about him.  We of course wished so hard he would be back for Christmas.  We still miss him so much and would so like to know where he is. We had a call from 2 people the other day who had seen a black lab in Parry's lane near the dairy.  It raised our hopes enormously for 2 reasons- the people managed to get in touch after all this time- they googled it on the internet and got my number!  and also people are still looking! The dog is a big handsome boy - also nervous and barks at strangers- I took him home one day when he got out when I was passing, think he gets out a lot and he lives on the left of Parry's lane as you go down, near the diary. All the best to you lovely people. BearLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Magical Badger- have just had a look.  Good idea to check - thanks, but none are Simon.
We were thinking about him lots tonight especially, as he had such terror of fireworks and it is very strange not having him about quivering in fear now that the students are back and nights are dark and fireworks are going off all the time.
So sad not to know where Simon or Blue are, or if they are being well cared for or just roaming.
Often think of you

Finally the mystery of the sighting in Canford lane last month has been explained... a lady rang today to tell us that her dog got out for 24 hours in the area and Blaise castle around 24th and 25th Sept.  The dog was similar in age and size to Simon and has a grey muzzle.    The only way we would get Simon back now is if his chip got read.  I really don't think he could still be running free in the Bristol area.        Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That is interesting about the chips!  I agree it would be a good idea- like a credit card that was stolen.
Had a call from Shadow's breeder out of the blue today, a lovely lady who has now moved to Yorkshire.  She is dotty about dogs and sends birthday cards to the pups she bred!  and by chance bought a bundle of magazines in a boot sale and saw the article about Simon and saw my picture and Shadow's name and rang me straight away to sympathise.  Shadow's mum Bonnie died recently so sympathy flowed both ways.

Microchips are made slightly differently now, they used to have a smooth outer casing which meant it was easy for them to migrate, normally under the front legs,  they now have a coating a bit like velco grips which means they should stay in the right place.  It would be great if there were a way the scanners were able to pick up a chip that was registered as lost or stolen.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi! Bear, as usual sterling work, well done at the Vets worring isnt it that dogs are not scanned as a matter of course but spreading the word will help.
Hope you have good news soon.xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Bear
nothing more.
I took my other dogs for their annual booster at the vet last night.
I insisted that they were scanned for microchips first.  I suggest that any one who visits their vet gets their dog scanned every time.
it took a long time to locate Shadow's chip- so much so that we didn't think he had one.  This is worrying.
The vet was very sympathetic to the idea of vets scanning all pets as a routine- good news
Off for walkies now

Hello all
There was something funny going on with the site yesterday- couldn't add a comment...
But I am back and wanted to thank all of you very much for your hard work postering on Kingsweston for us.
Had 2 calls from the area yesterday.  One from the little field on the main path from Coombe Dingle- as you go from the car park and up a little hill and down to the left- just there- a lab eating grass on its own, and later on a call from Pilning- but can't be sure about that one as the caller's phone went dead and when I called back he didn't answer...
We rushed up to Coombe Dingle but saw nothing...
The cage has been set all week with all manner of tasty food but nothing has ventured in.
So that's the update.  thanks all of you for continuing to look.

Hi ML, we probably were there at the same time!  The area is so vast there is plenty of ground to cover. I seem to remember Bear saying he may have been sighted around the iron bridge. I put up some posters in Grove Ave and Grove Rd, then on the footpath up to Kingsweston Down and a couple actually on the top of the open space but the opposite end to the transmitter - I do not know the area very well and was worried that I would get lost!  I'm unable to get up there again this week but let's hope that Simon is spotted again.  Good idea about the scenting Spindle.  I hope that as the leaves are falling it will make him easier to see.  Come on Simon, time to give in now and get you home.x.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Dinkydoodle, I have just got back in from postering and just seen your message, sorry about that. We were probably up there at the same time! Would have been nice to have met you up there, nevermind. I wasn't that sure on where the best places to poster were with either, I have done around where the iron gate is and down the bottom where I believe the horses walk and by the steps leading up to Kingsweston hill. I have stuck some of the posters up and stapled the others, I just hope they hold in the wet weather!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Walked both sides of Kingsweston this morning and down to the Dingle and Cherry Orchards. The leaves are really flying off the trees now so it will make it easier to see him if he's lurking! I have a week off work soon so will go up around 4pm each day to see if he'll make an appearance. Odd about the trap - will have to make sure my Lab doesn't smell it!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No luck with the cage last night
amazed with the amount of foxes that one didn't venture in...and if they are not brave enough I worry that a dog certainly wouldn't
I need a break- am so tired- am having a rest this weekend, but will go for long walk early tomorrow morning on Kings Weston and put up more posters around there
am away next week, but rest of family here to follow anything that comes up
thanks again for all the support

This sounds very familiar with the sighting in the same place by the farmer, time of day is right too.  Perhaps a tent up there one night with a bbq may entice him?  I'm out of the area tomorrow but text or call me Bear if you have any news overnight, still everything crossed.  Come on Simon, you know you like pilchards!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Bear
Had a call today from a lady who saw a labrador running fast and on its own on Kingsweston down.  She said it came from the roman road side and crossed over.  She saw him yesterday afternoon around 4pm.
she mentioned that shortly before she saw the dog, a fox went exactly the same way- was he chasing?  or was he following?
She described the dog as being of small build- need to check and see if she means short or slim... and she wasn’t sure but thought he had some white on him again, not sure if she meant his chin or a patch.
Any other dogs matching this description in the area?  I thought of Blue, but he couldn’t run so fast.
Off to set the trap and have another look around.  Putting pilchards in tonight!!

Sorry to say that we had no success last night.
All the bins and recycling were out.  We drove around a lot in the area and saw nothing.  We walked thru Canford park - nothing there.
We set the trap- not even a fox went in, so I heard this morning- and there are plenty!
We barbecued in the field in the Dingle until really late- some young foxes came out, and a fantastic full moon.  we transferred up to Canford lane for a bit, but no hungry dogs around sadly.

Thanks K for printing posters for me- off with Dinkydoodle later to put some around Coombe Dingle and Canford area.
Went out yesterday afternoon round Canford and then later on round Coombe dingle woods it the dark- saw nothing
A bit anxious that the lab we saw belongs to a lady in Grove rd whose dogs habitually stray in the area- am anxious to get hold of her before carrying on with anything else.

Hi Bear, not sure if this has already been suggested but while you are camping out on  evenings in this area try and light a small bar-b-q ( one of the small throw away ones ) cook some sausages on it and i hope i'm right in saying but dogs can pick up the smell from miles away ? I have seen this used on other dogs when owners know/think the dog is in the area and it could draw him closer in. Like you I have a gut feeling this could be simon as the area is right and the sighting is sounding like him. Everything crossed for some  good news and wishing Simon back home with you very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Stayed till 3am and walked all around there this morning sussing out the area.  Also dropped off smelly family items- trainers, socks etc to leave in the garden with the toy.  Put up some posters in Canford Lane and will go back and do some more later.
Think the dogs barking may have been from Cherry Orchards, but will check out tonight.
Plan to stake out again tonight, but the person who saw the dog thinks that thursday night would be a good night- all the recycling boxes and bins go out the night before collection on friday.
Let's hope if it is Simon, that he is home by then.  We are all so hopeful.
What I need is a wild life camera that trips when an animal crosses the beam, and takes photos with infra red.  Will be working on that today, but if anyone out there has one I can borrow, I would be very grateful.
Failing that, a dog trap is the other option as I think I will not be able to keep up nightly vigils and function normally during the day.

I feel so sure that the dog seen in Canford lane on thursday night was Simon.  It is a very likely place for a dog to be living lots of woods to hide in during the day (Coombe Dingle) and lots of people feeding the foxes at night in their gardens- so lots of food around.
I went up there at 1130 last night, walked Shadow about, put some pilchards around the gravel in the spot where he was seen and parked on the driveway to stake him out.  It was very busy on the road til about 2-possibly cos the suspension bridge is shut and it is a rat run, or maybe just saturday night...
Saw a beautiful fox in prime condition around 230 going towards the Dingle - didn’t come for the pilchards... but think he may have done later as they were gone this morning.  No sign of Simon, but heard a large dog barking in the woods behind.  When I called and whistled from Canford nursing home I had an answering bark...

Just come back from Canford Lane and visit to the lady who saw the dog last night.  It is recycling day on a thursday and he was checking out all the bins along the road.  He fitted the description and was seen at 11.45 last night.  She will alert all the neighbours- I will poster all around there too.
She plans to bait her garden and I have left her with food and a smelly old rug.  She is experienced with nervous dogs- helps out at the dogs home and has rescued 2 from there, so I am confident that she knows what she is doing in terms of a capture.  There is a way of luring him into the back and hopefully cornering him...
Simon was mentioned on Ben Prater's drive time show on BBC Bristol tonight- thrilled about that- if you want to listen...click onto his page and click listen again and he reads out 2 of my emails around 19.26mins into the show.
He is such a lovely guy- if you haven't ever listened to the show- then start now!

Please please please let this be Simon.  If this lady is willing, perhaps she could continue feeding him each night for a while if he comes back to the same spot then Bear you may have to camp out in this kind lady's house!  I would so love it to be Simon but if it isn't, this dog will still need to be caught.  Good luck.x.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Exciting news...had a call this morning from a lady in Canford lane who saw an old black labrador raiding bins at around midnight.  This lady feeds foxes in her garden and he came in after the food. She called me straight away but my phone is switched off at night after nutters started to call... anyway it is good news and I am so excited that it could be him!  Will go and call on the lady later and leave something smelly there don't you think?  and a supply of food

Am well on the way to part 2 of Simon's campaign...
New posters going up all over and have been mailed to all schools where I know someone, and also to lots of big businesses for their notice boards.  Posters now in Redland Park, Ashton Court at the top by the golf course.  ML putting some at Blaise Castle main entrance.  Off to Leigh Woods tomorrow, and anyone else is free to put them where they like- I can email one over to you!  Don't want to go mad with posters but want to let people know he is still missing.

Still getting calls.  Today from a lady who saw a poster in Badock wood and had seen a stray black lab in Ashton Court yesterday with green collar.  The dog had a green tag also- so not Simon and also a long tail.  wonder if he has now been re united.  sounds very like another dog that I had calls about earlier this summer- obviously a roamer or maybe a new lost dog.
On another note, did Doglost ever get ?50 from Chat magazine?  They promised it if I gave them the story.  Need to follow up if not.

I am in Bristol and have been wondering every time I see one of your posters whether Simon has come home yet.  So sorry to see that you are still searching - I can only imagine what you must be going through. My whippet and I walk in Blaise, Kingsweston and Leigh Woods on a very regular basis - I have been keeping my eyes peeled every time I go there, and will continue to do so. thanks to you all for your positive messages!
will think about doing another poster with Still missing
except it upsets me so much each time i walk with the other dogs  and it is a constant reminder when we are trying to get used to life with out him
we are having a get together on sunday afternoon with our dogs and friends and families with their dogs to remember Simon and say thanks for helping.  Rounders match and sports day games and tea after back at ours.
ML and Dinkydoodle, if you are around, get in touch and I will give you the details- be good to see you.
Celia, do come along too.

I do agree with spindle on the poster situation, I would also try to ignore them but maybe take down old ones, but add fresh posters with STILL MISSING on ( maybe not as many as before so not to upset residents/council ! )  but at least then he is still fresh in peoples minds and they are aware hes still missing/lost. Hope you get some good news soon Bear..Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bear, it is your decision on the posters, Simon is your dog.  I would probably ignore these people saying the posters are ugly but it is entirely up to you.  Some owner have to move on but rest assured we are all still looking for him and will carry on doing that. Dont give up hope. he is chipped that may get him home one day.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A sighting in King's Weston last night- by a tractor driver carting hay bales from the main walkway... not sure if it was him but it certainly sounded likely.  Celia kindly checked it out for us as we are away for a bit again. He was gone but had been seen up there the day before as well. I know this may be nothing but will play on my mind if I don't mention it. Whilst at work tonight I was driving past sainsburys near the triangle and there was a homeless guy begging with what looked like a black lab that was curled up next to him. Unfortunately I couldn't get a closer look as I was working.  It may very well be nothing but just thought that if you are up that way at all to maybe keep an eye out. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We haven't given up hope of getting Simon back, but it is inevitable that people will assume that he has been found and take posters down after this amount of time- now 6 weeks since he went missing.
wherever you go or meet people, all seem to know about him, yet we haven't had a reliable sighting in ages.
All we can hope for is that he will end up in the Dogs home or get to a vet and get scanned.
I would very much like to restart the campaign for vets to routinely scan new owners dogs or new animals arriving at their practices.  Is there any support out there for this do you think?
Any suggestions to the best way of carrying this out?

Hiya we live in clifton wood road and I have been out looking round here when I can.  A neighbour saw that dog with a red collar but it was gone when we went out 5 mins later it was gone. Have you looked around where homeless people gather, they sometimes take a dog. There are usually some in the underpass by Debenhams.  I found one once at Temple Meads, soaking wet and a homeless girl tried to say it was hers, but I rang the owner and they came. H had been taken from Henleaze outside the green grocers. Please God he is found soon. Just been to his house- it is not Simon
a small labrador tends to stray around that area- a bitch and old, and I have already rehomed it once before!
Simon is not in an italian restaurant in Hotwells
I went for a walk today without putting up a poster- felt very strange.  But there were posters up already!
Shadow our other lab is poorly today- was violently sick several times last night, again this morning has diahorrea and is off his food.  Will starve him till he feels better- poor chap.

Thank you Jayne for taking off the posting for me.
Great to meet you albeit briefly today ML and so grateful for all your postering.  Let’s go for a doggie walk together after the school hols.
I feel that I have covered Bristol in posters now, and can relax, but if anyone is around Eastville Park, Snuff Mills or Frenchay, they are the only places not done and some postering would be much appreciated.  There was a call from a man on Tues 7th July saying there was a labrador in Eastville Park on its own but at 1030 at night I couldn’t venture out there on my own, and it is eating away at me a bit.
Had 2 calls this afternoon around 5 from Clifton to say that a lab with a red collar went running past the 10 o clock shop near Pizza Express and down Constitution hill.  I went to check it out despite the fact that Simon had a green collar on when he went- just in case he had been taken - had a collar change and run off again but saw nothing- I whistled for him and there was no sign.
Shortly after I had a call from a lady saying that Simon had been caught in a dog trap in Portishead and fostered out with a lady in Shirehampton- apparently to do with Holly Hedge sanctuary... and had been rehomed- she overheard this 2 weeks ago in Ashton Court at the Holly Hedge sanctuary fun day, and people also said that we had 2 dogs already so had enough dogs - as if that made it ok  Mysterious but I rang Holly Hedge straight away and spoke to the founder who was amazed.
I met a lovely lady at BAWA (sports club) at Filton who put up a poster for me and is a dog lover and she called today- she had copied the poster and handed it out to all the members and also to a family member who works up at British Aerospace and it is plastered all over there too- there are so many lovely people out there- it is really heartwarming.
Just going off tonight on a final outing to an Italian restaurant in Hotwells- someone again overheard something, but it is maybe worth following up that a dog wondered in from the Portway and the chef has adopted it.  Also fairly incredible.
Rather a long ramble tonight so will sign off now.

Just returned from doing Cherry Orchards and Henbury Golf Course.
A friend has offered to do the University Halls of Residence, Badminton School and St Monicas for me.
ML if you log on please call me as I have lost your number.
Could you possibly go over to Eastville Park and put up a few posters around there and drop down to Snuff Mills and go a way up the river towards Frenchay please?  Not sure where you live and if that would be ok.
Let me know.
I will get friends to cover the top end of Frenchay.
Thanks everyone.

Hi ML
looked everywhere for your number to give you a call.  Far too late now but in case you check in the morning, can you send me a text or call.  Thanks for offering to help us.  Would be nice to meet you.
Been looking at the map again and want to concentrate on Blaise Castle estate tomorrow - it is vast- but also think that the University Halls at the top of the Downs- Wills, Churchill, Hyatt Baker, Plus Badminton School and St Monika's nursing home and Trinity College are all worth putting posters up around- they all have big grounds
Lawrence Weston is accessible from Blaise and needs some posters
If it is not pouring will come out with the kids in the afternoon with a neighbour too. Was planning on spending the afternoon in Blaise area, but will be out with the dogs early morning and apart from needing to get my son some shoes am free the rest of the day as well.

Thank you doglover- so glad you are checking for found dogs for us.
My mother in law told me a story about a dog in Devon that came back after 6 months of living wild- dogs are incredible really, let's hope it isn't so long though.
Today I am off to poster every green space not already covered in posters.
There are no posters around Stokes Croft and the squat any more, so if anyone is around there, would appreciate some being put up.
Am trying to stay calm and send lots of positive thoughts out there for Simon to follow back home.

It was so good to drive up to Cribbs and see posters up that we hadn't put up- a real boost to morale.  Thank you so much ML.
Filton, Catbrain, Brentry,  Golden Hill, Horfield Common and the little park up opposite Tesco Golden hill, the Downs and Coronation rd are all covered now- 100 posters put up and given to people yesterday.  530- 10 full time job.
Will carry on today - searching Filton golf course and heading out to any open spaces- golf courses and sports grounds to the North of Bristol to poster- mmmm- lovely in the rain!
Would appreciate help in Patchway, Aztec West, Stoke Gifford, Hambrook and Frenchay.
Have decided that once all that is covered that all we can do is hope that he is seen and that someone calls and that he is quickly reunited with us.
It is a real worry that we are going away for a few days to Scotland at the weekend.  It is so hard to leave Bristol but feel from the family's perspective we have done all that can be done and more and now we must relax and keep hoping.
Had a call at 1030 last night with a sighting on the Portway and rushed off - saw the dog- the owner was a long way behind - but at least we ruled it out, and it could so easily have been him.  It was brilliant that the lads that rang thought of it immediately - and we were there within 5 minutes.
That's all for now.  Keep looking and keep hoping.

Hello to all of you lovely people at Doglost and followers of Simon's story.
We would like to enlist all the help possible this week please- now 3 weeks since he went missing- it has been tough
Plans for this week- we want to plaster Bristol in areas much further away from where we live- up to 8 miles- Henbury, Patchway, Aztec West, Thornbury, Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Cribbs, - concentrating on North Bristol at the moment. Just about anywhere in a massive push.   if any of you have time- please can you get out there and go mad- let us know where you have been!
Have been in touch with the Evening Post but my contact there is on holiday- will see if they come back to me.
In the meantime have emailed 100 friends in Bristol with the latest news and attached posters and asked for help.
Anyone who rings to ask if he is back is now being asked to help etc
We want him back this week!!!!  can't bear to be without him any longer.
thanks

Hi
thanks for all the suggestions- think all the hostels and big issue are aware that Simon is missing and we have spent days down there at different times and not seen anything.  Simon may have hooked up with someone despite his nervous character - but that is better than running wild in the city.

Following on from the comment made by ML, another place to try where homeless people go in Bristol is the Big Issue Office,93 Stokes Croft. Bristol BS1 3RD. Tel 0117 9428538. to get the magazines to sell on the streets, maybe worth asking staff about the homeless peolpe that come in, do they have dogs etc or putting up posters incase simon is spotted with anyone, wishing you good news soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I can't believe that Simon has still not been found. I know this is probably a really long shot but I know it was previously mentioned that Simon may have been seen with someone who looked like they lived on the streets. I know quite a few of the homeless people in the centre actually stay at a hostel on either Jamaica st or Brigstocke rd in St Pauls and was just wondering if it was worth trying to see whether they allow their residents to have dogs and if so if any of the staff have noticed anyone with a black lab? I did try and get a number today but I don't think I got the right one. It's just a thought? xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you everyone for helping Simon and his family , we really do appreciate all the help that can be given to this lovely family. xxx No news is so sad and frustrating and does get owners down as so much effort goes in to finding them, but please keep the faith that you will find him, sometimes it does take a while as he is out there somewhere. xxx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

HI Bear, I have been driving aroung the downs, portway and whiteladies rd ths morning but still nothing - unfortunately I couldn't get out and have a proper look as my little girl was with me. Simon isn't only a dog, he's your family. I would be exactly the same if I lost one of mine. He has got to be out there somewhere, try to stay positive. If there is anything I can help with then let me know. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bear:  Simon is not only a dog, he is part of your family and not knowing where he is must be very hard on you all, I do not know how I would feel in this situation but I would be beside myself.  No family could be doing more to find their dog than you are, you are all truly dedicated and amazing.  I only wish I could help more, home calls this afternoon but I should be available tomorrow afternoon, I will text you. I see the stolen lab pup by you has now been registered on DL.  Keep thinking positive thoughts.x.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Bear
Thanks Dinkydoodle
We had to take all the posters down on the Downs yesterday - for the inspection, that's why there were none there-we now have now put them back
off to the Dog's home just in case and postering today further afield.
had a call yesterday but it was a false alarm- so many labs seem to get out and stray around
a friend is coming today- he adores Simon and he is the only other person other than us that Simon trusts- we will take him to all the places Simon was seen and get another take on where he could have gone.
I am starting to suspect strongly that Simon has got into the Avon
Know he is only a dog but we are very very sad and missing him.
We are so short on sleep and energy now - it has been a long 10 days.

I was unable to gain entry to the dog & mounted police section this afternoon and they don't have any kind of public entrance so I have emailed a contact who may be able to help with this.  I will let you know.  I also had a drive around the Downs and put up a few posters  and at the view point, the ice cream van lady still had Simon's poster displayed in her back window.  Has anyone contacted the Downs Ranger?  Come on Simon, show yourself so we can get you home.  Will be in touch tomorrow.x.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No sign along the North side of the Portway this morning.  We have postered all the way down on both sides now and into Avonmouth too.
Zippy is coughing and spluttering this morning- not sure if he is so worn out that he has caught something or if he has picked up a lungworm so are treating both.  Chatted to the vet about scanning new animals and new owners animals and they thought it would be a good idea.  That is the start of a new campaign- could be Simon's campaign rather than Dolly's directive.
We heard that a chocolate lab pup 8 weeks was stolen from Redland recently.  Do you know about this?

Hi Dinkydoodle
thanks so much for your offer of help tomorrow
please can you visit the Police HQ mounted section and hand them a pile of leaflets?  and a poster etc?
I did meet a couple of guys and gave them a leaflet but Greylady is right- there are prob lots of them that are out and about and can be looking.
We are all off to a funeral tomorrow near Birmingham- my cousin's wife died of cancer last week- so sad.
We are planning to get up early and do some postering around 5am and again when we come back.
We have done Seamills and the Portway tonight
Friends helped to get all the posters off the Downs and Whiteladies before the inspection for the flower show and we will need help weds to put them all back again...
Thanks to all of you

A little bit of a long shot Bear, but if you are postering along the Portway, can you hop across the river and visit the Police Dog Section HQ at Bower Ashton?  They guys there are out and about all over Bristol and they could carry a poster each in their vans............they will notice dogs more than the average person, so will be a good set of eyes.  Keep positive xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If Simon is still out there we are hoping that the reward will bear fruit.
Can't believe Simon is roaming the streets of this busy area and despite it being plastered in posters that no one has seen him for sure since weds.
We have been out early and late - there are people everywhere.
Shadow and Zippy are worn out with looking too!
It is possible someone has dognapped him, or perhaps moved him on to another place...
Hoping hard he will just make his way home, and delighted that it rained last night- he will have water and also there were no fireworks on the downs!!

Hi, I live in Cotham and at about 6.45am on thursday morning I saw a black lab trotting down my road (Victoria Walk) I thought this was odd as I couldn't see anyone with him but then I heard a mans voice over the hill and presumed the dog was with him. When I got to the end of the road I saw that the voice was just a taxi driver on his mobile. Again I thought it was odd but didn't think anything of it until I got to Redland and saw the posters. I tried to find this website on thursday but I found 'lostdog.co.uk' which had no mention of Simon on it.
The dog I saw had a collar on but I couldn't say what colour, he looked very healthy and was moving fast down victoria walk towards kingsdown.
I hope you find him soon.

We have made new posters and are heading off with them now. whole of Leigh Woods searched this morning and postered in case he has crossed the Suspension Bridge- the staff there think unlikely.  no sign of him at all on the Downs
very worried as there are more fireworks planned up there tonight from the Fun fair- poor Simon- he will be very frightened wherever he is hiding.

No more sightings of Simon but we did manage to reunite another lab with its owner today. The press have got hold the story and I have done several radio interviews with a few more planned, all are focussing on the scenting technique. We had a lovely call from a lady in Canada this evening who had heard of Simons plight. She used the scenting technique and recovered her dog after 12 nights away, and told us not to give up. She used a plant misting spray bottle, so a little went a very long way - sound advice. Just off now to do his late feed. More tomorrow.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We are walking our dogs all over this part of Bristol to try and get them to lay a trail for Simon to follow, and not using the car at all for walks- that way there should be plenty of scent for him.
Just done an interview on BBC Radio Scotland and of course mentioned doglost and how the Sheltie was found at Christmas with the scent method and how dilute wee in the street is no worse than dog pee or spitting in the street and that some people drink their own pee!
Waiting till dark and then will get out there again for another look for Simon.

Hi, Im keeping an eye on the comments page x Also, my friends sister works at Bristol Uni and she is going to poster all round there today - there are some nasty comments, however think of the publicity - not so many people would mention a lost dog, as they would the scenting story, and it means they all check out the article, and see his picture - the more people know - chin up, most of the comments are just people wanting to get their ill-informed pennies worth in, I'm sure they are not all overly righteous people, so ignore them. The focus is on getting Simon home, and all this coverage will certainly help xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There has been lots of negative feedback on the comment page on the editorial of the Evening Post regarding the laying of the pee trails.  May need back up from Doglost if it gets nasty please.
Also had a call to see if a magazine can feature the story and they will pay us- will donate it to Doglost if it comes off.
We are off to see if we can track down some homeless people and see if Simon is hanging around with them after the 2 reports of sightings.
A farmer called to tell us to find a bitch in season and lay a trail with her! A good idea we thought.
And I found someone's dog today- another lab - he had been seen around Cotham and I had lots of calls about him- took him to the dogs home and he was chipped- the owners know and were on the way to get him.
That's all for now
Come back Simon!  Jon and Henry are back - just you missing now.

his story has now gone national- the person I thought was from the Western Daily was in fact South Western News who cover the nationals- major coup to get wider coverage
but nothing from the radio stations as yet- keeping fingers crossed that they call
and I am in a way very relieved if he is with street people- 2 reports of him looking out of place with them but walking happily at heel- does sound like him- at least they love dogs too, and he is not roaming

Bear
Weds update.
Some good news... the Bristol Evening Post are running Simon's story as front page tomorrow.  They were interested in the pee trail idea, and sent their photographer up this morning to see us.
The house is so quiet without Simon, we are missing him so much.  The other dogs are too.
They came on a mission with me and Kathryne (dinkydoodle) along Apsley road in Clifton to look in every garden and under every bush.  Kathryne had already leafleted every house for me.  What wonderful people you all are Doglost!  Will come and join forces with you, it is a fantastic organisation.
There was a sighting today in Cotham on Sydenham Hill/Cotham brow and the dog wardens were up there, but I was up there for ages and didn't see any sign.
Clara and I are off in a minute to lay a trail back from there and also do a lot more postering with some other helpers.
Have a friend getting in touch with the gay community that hang out on the Downs and also cycling clubs.
A lady that reads meters took my leaflet today and I went with a friend to the squat on Gloucester rd to poster.
My daughter and friend called into every shop in Whiteladies road today as well.
Leaving no stone unturned in the search for him.  The sniffer dog idea was not possible, nor were hounds given the amount of foxes in Bristol it might have been chaos!
Thank you everyone for your support, hard work and prayers.
Come home tonight Simon, we are sending out vibes to you!

We have been out since 7am postering everywhere and gradually thru the day been joined by more and more people.  We have been calling for Simon and using the dog whistle he comes to.
The advert in the Bristol Evening Post came out this morning and we have had a trickle of calls all day about him, and have pinpointed them all on a map.  We have laid pee trails from all those places.
Lots and lots of people are on the lookout for him.  I have promised to remove all the posters when we find him!!
Thanks to everyone for their support and thank you Cathrine for your offer of help tomorrow afternoon.  Look forward to meeting you.

Bear
We have been overwhelmed by your wonderful support and that of friends in Bristol and further afield.  Thank you all.
Simon is featured in today's Bristol Evening Post on page 4.
They will run the story again tomorrow with updates, which is excellent news.
We have plastered the Downs and Whiteladies road, Blaise Castle/Coombe Dingle, Ashton Court, Leigh Woods and Brandon Hill.
All the vets have been informed in Bristol.  Local taxi firms are keeping an eye out and friends in Bristol are circulating the posters and telling people.  Facebook is also being used and has a photo.  Running clubs and dog walkers have been told and friends are passing the word to traffic wardens and park rangers etc
A friend phoned me this morning to say that someone might have seen him raiding bins on Sunday night in Cotham Hill near Film 54.
But I have just had some very distressing news...
a man called to say that he hit a dog matching the description on the posters on Saturday night around 9.15.  Simon ran off into Apsley rd afterwards and disappeared.
Have just had a call to say that he was seen on Ladies mile this morning Tuesday.
please keep looking!  He isn't far away.  Thank you so much.

I'm going to put up some posters in work as lots of people live in Simon's part of town.  Am waiting for response to a possible contact within the Evening Post so will update asap.  This is such a busy area, someone must have seen him, dogs on their own do not wander in town without questions being asked.  Will contact owner later today to see if how wide postering has been and can help tomorrow putting flyers to all shops, bars etc in area. Owner, please check Bristol dogs home in person daily and also Holly Hedge animal sanctuary.  Come on Simon, wishing to see you home quickly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for all the support, we have been postering, emailing, and targetting postmen and taxi drivers and milkmen. He was spotted by a taxi driver on Saturday night trying to cross whiteladies road near the HSBC bank. Several people tried to catch him but he evaded them and was last seen heading down the hill towards the town as the traffic was too heavy to cross. He was about 300m from home at that point. This happened at around 10pm.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I?m sorry to hear your simon is missing. Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres?local council stray dogs holding kennel give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars.., If you can go down there each day to check for your dog that is the best thing as they only have to hold a dog for 7 days before it can legally be rehomed or in some cases destroyed. It is also worth contacting the local police as if someone has found your dog they may well have contacted them. Get postering now?..as quickly and as many as you can physically manage. POSTER POSTER POSTER!!!?I cannot emphasize how important this is, from the posters you will get sightings and lots of extra pairs of eyes looking out for your dog. if your dog is tattooed or microchipped, then of course state so in your posters, but remember to phone the tattoo and microchip people... get them to look up your details and confirm they have the best and most current contact numbers for you. And a backup if possible. Poster bus stops, train stations, supermarket/retail park car parks, pet shops petrol stations, lay by snack vans, service stations, bins, poo bins, shopping centres, take away outlets, pubs, lamposts, caf?s, garden centre?s, leisure centre?s,??.basically anywhere people go you need to poster like mad so nobody misses them? ask in as many places as you can if they will display a poster for you. Tell postman and take flyers to local sorting office for all postmen to carry while on rounds, binmen and give them a poster so they have your phone no handy? look up and call all local dog walkers and email them a poster if possible. in fact tell every single person you meet while searching as the more people know the much better chance of getting your dog back quickly. Contact the local newspaper and radio stations? take out an advert with a photo in the papers pets section lost and found. If you believe your dog has been stolen then it is very important you contact the police for a crime reference number?. And the postering publicity should have the aim of not only getting your dog home but making it too hot to handle, also check the area that your dog was taken from?..are there cctv camera?s that could have captured whoever took your dog?. Cross posted to www.Labradorforums.co.uk www.Labradorks.co.uk Good luck xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner there was a fireworks display and Simon bolted in fright , owner has call DW and rescues but as it is a weekend no response really. 50 + poster have been put up already. Simon was a rescue and is a nervous dog but friendly when you get his trust he will be wary of strangers.
Please look out for Simon and put up a poster or two please. Good Luck
