Pet dog escapes from hole lot of grief

A WEYMOUTH schoolboy had ?the best day of his life? when he was reunited with his lost dog on his birthday. All Saints School pupil Kieran Toman welcomed his family?s beloved Jack Russell cross, Misty, home on his 12th birthday six days after she disappeared at a picnic in Thorncombe Woods, near Dorchester. After an appeal in the Dorset Echo a Mr and Mrs Thomas from Tolpuddle found Misty by calling for her in the car park of the woods. Kieran and his sister Holly, nine, were overjoyed when Misty was returned to their home in Broadwey. He said: ?It was really amazing. It was the best thing that?s ever happened to me as I was really scared and it was such a relief when she came back.? Kieran?s mum Lynn Toman said: ?She came home on my son?s birthday, which made his day. ?I think it was the best day of his life as he went off with a smile and told everybody at school. It was a happy ending.? Mrs Toman said she has sent flowers to Mr and Mrs Thomas after they refused the reward offered in the Echo. She said: ?When the ranger said some make it out after two weeks we thought he was being kind. Mr and Mrs Thomas are regular dog walkers there and have been going out and calling for her. ?When they got back to their car Mrs Thomas heard something, called for her and she came out of the bushes. Misty was filthy.?

Misty is recovering very well. She is eating, drinking and, dare I say, pooing well. She is also back to chasing the birds in the garden My wife took her for a small walk tomorrow, but not surprisingly, did not let her off of the lead! A bunch of flowers went to the finders yesterday and the local paper are coming around today to do a 'good news' story. I will try and post the link on here. Thanks, all, once again. Great stuff , yea we were all so excited to know she was home safe i think we all posted at the same time.....fantastic postering and scenting and of course wonderful dog loveing people did the trick i am so delighted for you,,,,welcome home Misty ! xxx

Wonderful news.  Yep the scenting pretty much always works to keep them in the area. She probably kept thinking I will stay here till mum comes back. So happy she is home,.

Hi Reynard I posted details earlier on this morning. Couldn't believe how nice total strangers can be. Some flowers will be winging there way to them. Misty is smelling a little sweeter now (although she hasn't thanked me) and is twitching away in her sleep. Wish I knew what she was thinking! She even wanted to go for a walk but after thirty seconds out she realised that maybe it wasn't the best of ideas. Thanks all, once again

WE HAVE FOUND HER!!!!! SHE IS BACK!!!!!!! We received a phone call at 8 o'clocl this morning from some lovely people who visit the woods everyday. They have been calling for Misty on all of their trips. Today, they heard some movement in the brambles near the car park so they called. Out she came. They picked her up and took her home. I collected her from there. Not sure I have cried that much before. She is a bit smelly and a bit thinner but absolutely fine. In fact, she wanted to go for a walk!! The vet found nothing wrong. We are SO grateful to everyone for their support and encouragment and advice. I think the urine thing may have helped!! It is my sons 12th birthday today. What a present!! Thank you to everyone. If your dog is missing, keep hoping. Misty turned up on day 6. Good luck to you all   thank you!!!!!!!

You are doing everything right, but you must keep going, and do even more, until you finaly get some news. Someone knows something.

We have put one of my tee shirts under the bench where she was last seen. Sadly, Misty has not returned to it. My wife has been up there checking again this evening. Still not sight or sound

Thank you folks, for your comments and assistance. We have flooded the area with posters and I have been to nearby houses and industrial units. Posters have also been put at the entrances to Puddletown woods but, yes, Puddletown village would be worthwhile visiting with more posters. I have also put some around our usual dog walking areas. Surprisingly enough, people had already heard about Misty missing. This is ten miles away from where I lost her. The dog walking community are brilliant! There is a 'Lost' notice with picture in the local paper today, which will be running for the next three days also. My wife is up the woods again this evening and I have been up there most of the day again. It's my sons 12th birthday tomorrow. What a lovely present it would be to get Misty home. Thanks for all your support and encouragement

Other places to poster would be Puddletown, shop, vet, pub etc. Could you also ask delivery people to look out? postmen, milk, bins etc.I do hope there is good news soon.

Kernow 999 - I am so sorry Misty is missing. Poster power is the name of the game on thisone - you need to get as many people as possible aware your dog is missing. also, please try the local media and see if they will run an appeal for you -  send them a press release on your missing dog. if you need a hand, I am on 07843 681980.

Just come back from looking again. Still no joy. Not a peep More posters given out and more people informed. Everybody has been wonderful I have told Woodlands, thank you. Details given. Will try Margaret Green Lets hope she appears soon. She is really missed Thanks everybody for your help

Hi. Thank you to all of you for your help. Misty is a very friendly dog towards people (a little more grumpy towards other dogs) and is a very loving pet. We have had her from a puppy and she means so much to us. She has been to Thorncombe Woods approx 6 times before so she is not that familiar with the area. The woods are about 10 miles away from our home in Weymouth and I do not believe that she would know her way home. The woods also are notorious for badger sets and rabbit holes, and yes, being a terrier she is known to have visited to odd hole or two. Unfortunately, the woods are so spread out that it is very difficult to search. We have put some posters up and fellow dog walkers have been looking out. The obvious concerns are: She is stuck down a hole; She has run off out of the woods; she has been taken or that she has been killed by an adder/badger She has now been missing for three nights, approaching the forth, and we all think that she will be in desperate need of a cuddle. All help VERY gratefully received. Thank you all

Have spoken with owner and he will update us, but local helpers please look out for Misty and put up a poster or two please.
