I'm so sorry you haven't been reunited yet. Hopefully the more vets that start routinely scanning the more long term lost dogs will be discovered. I have a BC and I think if it were me I would try the big BC shows. You'd know ehr instantly and she you. Fingers crossed you get back together soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm always saying that we cannot have favourites, but Poppy was one of the first dogs I helped when I became DogLost's PR Advisor. So I have a soft spot for her and so a two years on story would be great. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Two years on Wednesday, and Poppy is not yet home !! Josephine, I have just read all this, and I'm so sorry there has been no word of your beautiful Poppy. She reminds me a little of Skye G83 missing from Scotland. It is the large white collar, and similar coat length. Whenever we are searching for BC's there always seems to be a number of them on the wander. I dont know what it is with this breed. Both Poppy and Wilma, lost from your area are chipped, so let us hope that by some amazing stroke of luck we find them both very soon. Please poster for your girl again, if you do any for Wilma. I just have a feeling, that somehow she is still around your area, and her chip will bring her home. Show your pretty face Poppy, and come home soon. Good Luck Jo xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Melli! Lots of happy welcomes for little Elsie May then (once that woman stopped screaming blue murder on her way out!)! Imagine plenty of little waggly tails fussing round her too! Yet somehow you STILL manage to find time for us poor souls at doglost! What are you-superwoman!? Talking of superwomen, superwoman/dog detective Donna has been on the case again and reunited another happy pair-the Golden Retriever pup from Romford-brilliant! So sad to hear you so upset about Sheba again, I always think of you when I watch it. Seeing people walking out of those doors with their dogs all made better must be awful-it upsets me as I remember when we had to leave her there. You tried to do what was best for her and I think if you hadn't have taken her there you'd have had as many or more regrets. She knows how much you loved her and were trying to help her. I would be the same about wanting a recording of those precious moments she was on film, someone must have recorded it. Back this week from volunteering in Cornwall-as I was just before Poppy went missing. I was accompanied for much of the week by another BC, who reminded me very much of Poppy in all ways. It was quite emotional at times! Thankfully, though, Jessie, the chicks and chickens were all ok this time when I got home, although Jessie(cat!) had been off her food and tablets and howling for me for the last few days and was terribly matted, so glad I came back when I did! Hi there Bluebell's Mum- thanks for your post! Does Bluebell have a page? If so, I hope that it is a nice blue one! Maybe we can help-if help needed! xxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Meli, congratulations on your recent arrival! Must phone Jo as haven't spoken for a while due to holidays but don't think there is any more news or she would have phoned me. I've just had a bit shock tonight - my beautiful border collie Sheba died last October at the RVS hospital which is featured in 'Supervets' on BBC1 and I watched it tonight as she was there while they were filming - and yes, I saw her! I screamed but couldn't record it so am desperately hoping for a repeat. I'll watch next week just in case. I can't stop crying as I miss her so much and just wish she was one of the happy endings! Anyway, if I speak to Jo, I'll let her know you still check for Poppy. Take care xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Congratulations Mel! Boy or girl? Bet this little one follow in his/her big sisters footprints and you'll have another great dog detective on your hands! A trillion thanks Mel and Chloe! I, of course am also still checking out every flash of black and white I see. I've lost count of the turn around and follow-ups I've done but no more real leads so far, I'm afraid. Sadly the only glimpses I have of the real Poppy now are when she comes running up to me in my dreams. Sweet dreams little Poppy, where-ever you are.xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Nik and Mel, I've said it before but it's worth saying 1000 times over how very much I appreciate all your support. If only they actually did scan all new dogs to vets. It seems even those that claim they do, don't, as proved again recently when my friend took her new dogs into the vets. My hope is still that she may escape from the - hopefuly - nice home that she is in now, straight into the hands of someone who takes her in to be scanned. I may have to think then about making some sort of arrangement where the people who had been looking after her could still see her- tricky that one- have often wondered about it. Maybe her chip had been missed in re-homing and vet checks-not very likely. Hope Dolly's Directive is heard and acted on. We need it to be the law for all new dogs to vets to be scanned. Anyway, thanks again guys. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Was sure I had posted this but cant find it. Had a very near find not long ago. The policeman I had skoken to and given Poppy's poster to check on a travellers site in Harlow, from which I had several calls to say she was there had said there were no Border Collies there the first time they went in and I drew blanks on my visits too, along with all the other sightings in the roads nearby. However, on a recent 'visit' to the sight he saw a dog very like her. They went back to investigate and scan her. But the microchip was registered to some people in Chelmsford, who were of course thrilled to get back their missing dog after two years. Maybe this was the dog that was reported, I expect so..or maybe there were others hidden away.. I saw a picture to be sure it wasnt her but although similar, sadly it was not.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks alot-will look into this one tomorrow-which it prob will be by the time I submit this post! Thanks again-I know it's been a while so we're hard to find but really appreciate the effort! Melli, Manray and Roz, expect you'll have given up checking on here, I was offline for quite sometime but read your messages several weeks back when got back. Sorry I didnt reply sooner. Its been quite some time but a reunited after 18 months story is still a possibilty. I still chase round after glimpses of black and white dogs, no matter how late it makes me-but still to no avail! Prick ears and tri colour are the usual downfall of these possibles but heres hoping that one day those vets will routinely scan for chips and she'll come home. Another CM5 missing Border Collie is bringing it all back for me, seeing posters go up where I put mine all over, I hope little Floss is found soon, but fear wild goose chases may be taking the search too far afield. This one is a prick eared tri-colour so any new sightings/found dogs will check if her if not Poppy. Take care all. I'll never forget my gorgeous girl and still think of her in the day and so often nearly get her back-in my dreams-maybe one day my dreams will come true and more-actually are re-united! Thanks guys! You've stuck by us so long~I really am touched. Joe public soon get fed up of me going on about Poppy-many think you should give up and move on after only a week or so-I was shocked by how negative people were and how soon. But we doglosters know better! There's always hope and dogs are being found all the time-often long after some may have given up. But saying that-it is hard, sometimes, this long after, to really believe it. But hey, you never know! Come home beautiful. xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jo, just realised not checked Poppy since before I went in away in October. Hard to believe it's a year since I first saw her missing & still no news. There's still lots of people thinking of you and Poppy. I'm still engrossed in trying to find two gsd's that have been missing since May-it doesn't get any easier. False alerts, wild goose chases but you have to do it. I can now understand more than ever how so many people on this site feel. I'm lucky that in that I got involved with Doglost to help a local person who's dog went missing. It's more like extended family now. Stay strong, some one -somewhere will hopefully give you the call you've been waiting for.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is strange because my Beagles don't even seem to notice the bangs but I know my brothers' dog suffered terribly and had to have valium to get through Diwali and firework night poor thing she was a nervous wreck felt v soory for her at those times. I hope they stop soon - I'm getting v fed up with them and it does put you off them reading about all of the dogs running off and being so traumatised by them - I was shocked that some people even took their dogs to the North Weald Airfield firework display!??? Take care come home Poppy XXX Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Roz! I love to hear any stories where animals are found after so long-always give hope! Hopefully tonight is the last of the fireworks for a while. Funny how some animals like my cats pretty much ignore them while others are so scared. All of yours ok with them? xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I feel very sorry for you Jo - it must have been terrible over firework night - you've just got to hold onto the fact that she is chipped and think positively that somehow sometime the chip will be the thing which brings her home - I know it sometimes seems unlikely but it has happened before and I feel that it will for you. Hi Nik! So kind of you to think of us on your wknd away! Thanks Ros, I am touched when people still post-I am aware that it has been a long time. I remember this time last year how long a week seemed, then a month seemed an age. I looked at dogs missing for a year and felt so sorry for the owners. I still think of my Poppy every day-alot- and dream of her often. I am sure that I am not alone in dreams of finally finding my little one, but I can never quite reach her. Something always prevents me from getting her back, leaving me increasingly frustrated. More dogs scared off from round here with the incessant fireworks. Why cant people see a few more flashes and bangs are not worth the terror and distress they cause to so many creatures and people. Not to mention the injuries and accidents. Poppy's more scared of fireworks than any animal I have ever known. Ever since she was a puppy I have had to make sure I was home by 6 and stay in on any nights that people were likely to let them off. I had a 2nd session booked with the vets to try and help her through it when she went missing. Every firework I hear makes me wince for her. I doubt, if anyone has her now, that they would do the same, especially as they may be the type of people who would buy a dog without thinking or caring where she may have come from and are likely not to have got her checked over at the vets as her chip should have showed if they had. It would be nice to think that she was being well looked after and loved but with a chip, how could that be? Maybe they have taken her to the vet though and the vet didnt bother to scan-or missed it, but still, how did they get her? I will talk to my vet again about checking all new dogs when I take Jessie in for her operation on Tuesday. Sorry this is rather long-just havnt posted for a while, so much to say. Take care you all. xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jo - sorry I didn't post on the anniversary but I'm always thinking of her - it's strange as Poppy's posters first introduced me to DogLost - and I've been following the progress of all the dogs for a year now - I got very close to the potter street dog again - it's definitely not Poppy there's not enough white in the middle of its face. Have you posted her lost on the Harlow Harald web page - they have a page for lost dogs and I don't remember seeing her. Sorry to hear that your Grandmother isn't well - I hope she recovers soon take care Rx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Mel, I'm sure there'll be some fine looking pups at Christmas, from the pictures on your site of Blaze and Mum! Poppy's already been on Essex FM or was it Essex Radio? The other refused point blank-said it was not that type of station! Had some more calls this week, but near two of the local pubs that two of her lookalikey's frequent! The John Barleycorn-Threshers Bush, near Harlow and The White Horse, near Southweald Park, Brentwood. Its always nice to know that the good people of the world are still looking out for her and trying to help though! Thanks guys. Take care!xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MY BEAUTIFUL POPPY STILL MISSING ONE YEAR ON TODAY!!! I so wanted to do something more to make use of such a sad anniversary to renew efforts to bring her home, maybe try and get Paul O'Grady to mention her /show pic now he is back on air. But my hopes have been dashed as misfortrune strikes once again. My Grandmother has taken a steep turn for the worse and every spare (and not so spare!) minute has had to go to her as her heart is threatening to give up the fight-but I won't let it! Today, as every day, Poppy is with me in my thoughts, but today is just that little bit sadder. Thanks Ros and Melli and Chloe and Lewis and Donna and Jackie and every single one of you-I do so appreciate all your efforts to help us be re-united again. This would have all been so much harder without all of you on doglost. xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jo sorry I haven't been on here for a while - I was in traffic the other day and was able to get a good look at the Potter Street Collie - can't remember if that mystery was ever solved - think Mel may have met it but this collie had lots of little black spots on it's paws and still hangs out with that scary looking man! Also saw another 'new' B Collie walking with another man down North Weald High Road. I'm still thinking about Poppy and praying she's back with you soon. I'll certainly keep a look out near Garnon Nature reserve - we used to live opposite the nature reserve and I often walk over there with my dogs when I'm not in the Garnon Bushes Pub! Take care all RxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another call Sunday lunchtime about this Coopersale Collie. Same place from Theydon Oak to Garnon Bushes Nature Reserve. Again, I found no trace. IT may well be one of the other dogs in the area but want to investigate further. Must walk that way more often as it is so close to where she went missing. Perhaps more scenting next time! Sad to see that Poppy still isn't home, I would have thought by now that she would have turned up- even if she's with a different family. Do chip companies keep a log of dogs missing so that if any trys to change details they are picked up?. Other that email every vet in the country- all of the South has probably been done now. Keeping fingers & toes crossed for you Jo.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Jimi, yes it does look remarkably similar. The warden doesn't think a mistake could have been made over the sex of the dog but asked me to call back tomorrow. I had a call from a lady that knows Poppy today to say she thought she had seen her run past on her own, not far from where she went missing. Of course I rushed straight down to the wood she seemed to be headed, but it would have been nearly 1/2hr after the sighting. I called and whistled for a couple of hours, then postered while my father did the same. Asked everyone I saw but couldn't find any dogs at all like her. I'll try and go back tomorrow and look some more. I did a few scent trails to check on as well! xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Strange, the dog in the Found section ("Snoopy") looks so much like Poppy, but wrong sex! Maybe the markings are not unusual for a border collie, but might be worth checking him out. Good luck! xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh my goodness-its all happening at the moment! Thankyou so much-all of you! Thankfully, my friends dog is now home, safe and sound! Whilst ringing round to tell local rescues/police etc the good news I re-gave Poppy's details and asked them to re-check their records. Wish my little one would follow suit and be found! Better keep this brief as the last few attempts have crashed-I have a rather temperamental computer that doesnt like to get hot or even a little bit warm! New picture will follow-this is the best of her body, but it's her gorgeous little face that really distinguishes her from her many look-a-likeys. You are all so brilliant for standing by us all for so long, really helping!xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wish I had some news but all has gone horribly quiet on the Poppy front. Went to a big polo event which was being held <100m from where she went missing at Gaynes Park on Sat. Parked right up front where everyone could see the posters but didnt get her as much attention from it as I had hoped. Actually found it all rather upsetting-brought it all back. Was scouring the area for bodies, too, as it's where she was once caught in a horrible trap there when she'd previously strayed off our usual path through the woods. Also, where they had sheep so feared the farmer may have shot her-not that she would have done anything but run from them! Hoping to get this poster channed soon, so if she's suddenly gone from here-hopfully into the blue but maybe under Border Collie somewhere else. Thanks all! Take care. xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Nik, more good idea's. Definately need to change poster. Did you get the alternative pictures I sent you a while back? Still think she should be down as Border Collie rather than just collie cross. Still Missing, massive reward? Could be anywhere by now-something so people dont discount a dog they think cant be her as too far or too long ago. Funny, I thought of the map idea again just as I found out about the North Weald dog!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What a strange co-incidence ! Jo, why not revisit all the 'sightings' eliminating the North Weald ones and see if that gives you anything to particularly focus on. Remember what I said months ago about a map and dates ? !!! I think the poster is really out of date and needs to be changed: Any thoughts ? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken to the owner of Gunner, the 7yr-old Northweald Border Collie l've had so many calls about! He lives in the area of many of the sightings and the routes taken are his usual! Very like Poppy but probably didnt much appreciate being called Poppy and chased about by so many people! The owner found us through the publicity Bruce Forcyth's dog brought doglost, re-uniting a dog her friend had found with its owners in Edmonton, lost 8months ago, and helping me to finally rule out Northweald from the search! Thanks owner Kim for contacting me and also to Bruce! So no need to look out for Mr Northweald anymore! Take care all! xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She looks fawny and white with piercing blue eyes. Brown nose! The photo displayed is of Mika when she was younger. Spoke to the owner Sean today and told him about your friend, he has been out of the country so said he missed quite a few messages. Can you friend say what day it was and what direction the bloke was walking towards? Suggested postering Harlow Garden Centre, down road towards North Weald and Epping road, and on roundabout. Also, thought that bloke might work locally if using a bike. Hope not from Fern Hill! But will poster there just incase! Thanks for your help. They tried to register but couldn't get through but will try again. Spoke to Jo yesterday, no further calls regarding Poppy but now wondering with all these horse fairs happening around now, whether there is any significance. Apparently, the Stow Horse Fair happens twice a year, May and October when Poppy went missing! Jo tempted to go to it but its in Gloucestershire! xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Meli and Roz, I'm sure Jo won't mind me posting here (I'll text her in a minute - by the way, she's been away for a few days) but there's a missing Siberian Husky from Church Langley. The owners have postered around the common near Potter Street where she was seen. I've asked them to put her on here but so far, even though they keep saying they will, they haven't! If you drive down the road that takes you to the Lavers, Matching, etc, just over the motorway bridge, you'll see posters of her. Spoke to the owners yesterday and they have info that she might be in a house in Potter Street, near Red Lion pub. Could you both keep a look out if you go past that way please? She's a very distintive looking dog and apparently very thin which is because she's a fussy eater! Someone thought she looked neglected! Thanks alot. Donna xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

josephine just a long shot but if you know the exact location the dogs body was found would it be worth leaving a poster there as it could have been a farmer or member of the public passing by in their car who took it away.Or the owner of the dog. Have been down several times to try and find this place the local warden told me held the area list of all reported and removed dead animals-but it is definately not where he said, have rung the dog warden at the council who also knows nothing, nor the local vets. The body seems to have disappeared without a trace! No more news I'm afraid. Stopped the car in a couple more precarious places to look and asked another person to check out the site. Wonder about the found dog in Grays-not far from the one I had calls about that never reappeared. Wonder just how TRI colour she really is. Must find out. thanks all. take care. Roz, thank you for what you wrote-and you're right, keeping them locked up inside or on a short lead all the time might keep them a little safer but at what cost? (and still no guarantee's). A balance has to be the way to go. I had a call about another body 2days back but so far have not been able to find any more. The black/white body has been moved. I've checked local vets, dog-warden, forest warden, apparently there is a log of animal bodies kept in a council office in Debden-which I looked for today with no luck-new developments where I was told it was. Thanks Judy for Holly's story! Great hearing such things-hope Teddy and Poppy ok and home with us soon. Where's Teddy's page? xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That's amazing but I guess not so unbelievable given the number reunited after a very long time on this site - dogs are definitely more hardy creatures than we give them credit for - esp Collies! RxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I totally understand what you mean about the punishment thing - I went through exactly the same thing when I lost one of my Beagles, Gert on the Epping railway line - I still feel guilty now but in a way this site has helped me to see that no matter what you do - dogs do go missing/get stolen/hurt/die - you can't protect them from everything out there and if you tried so much to protect them then they wouldn't be dogs. None of us are guilty of anything - it's just the way life is sometimes and the very fact that all of us are on this site indicates how much we love our dogs and would do anything to get them back. I must say losing Gert was so hard for me to cope with but I'm glad I did have closure although at least you still have hope that one day she will be found and scanned. I still have faith you will find her - I'm pretty sure you would have found her body by now if something bad had happened. I'm so sorry about Sophie - all I can say is she was very lucky to have had you as an owner. You really have been through it lately it is time for some good luck. Fingers crossed Jo. Thanks Shelly! Keep thinking I've got all the places but then I hear of more! Several more again today. Lets hope this new drive brings some new hope! Tried an address I was given again today-needs more investigation as many places do, but every trip and new people on the lookout should bring us one step closer to finding her, however small. I dont know Mel, and Roz~all these North Weald and Harlow sightings have got me truly foxed! Come on Beautiful, you can sniff out a good soul who'll help you home! I dont know which may be her.All very confusing-lots different descriptions-most say much less white on tail-guessPoppy's tail is white about 1/3of the way up.Discovered another BP garage in Harlow that must be Staple Tye 1-drove round alot and postered a few more pubs there today. My mother saw a similar BC outside Tesco-Church Langley today-wondered if was the Potter St dog. I was the same as Chloe when my sister saw North Weald dog and this Tesco one! Everyone gets as much of the 3rd degree as I can! Time to try Paul O'Grady again-mayb mention my/her Dad being a guest on the show last year! Must fid a way of getting him personally to read it.xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

yes jo i did see the tail quite alot of white on it id say nearly half the tail but it was a big dog with really flowing long hair and it was really fast considering the land it was running on looked rough i wouldnt dismiss that it wasnt her coz u know her better than anyone but surely if you called out something she would at least slow down and or turn around the woman in the organic place said it just dont take any notice at all just keeps running well ive been over n/w harlow and even brentwood this weekend didnt see anything was even looking out for the brentwood dog missing (fluff ball ) one hahaha and will carry one looking for as many as i can remember , ive notice a young lad walking a brindle staffie around our town over the last few weeks he wears a bloody cap and hoody havent seen his face properly yet just want to know if his a regular , so i can investigate on that one i did notice it was a boy dog though when i drove past anyway will keep eyes open and i know chloe will as well i got the third degree from her when i told her i saw the n/w border collie ,she said you shaw it wernt poppy how do you know did you chase it and call her it was like being questioned by a copper lol , Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well, have had a couple more Brentwood possible sightings over the wknd. Another CoxtieGreen Rd one on Fri and another Southweald Park one today(Sun). Funny how in this area, everyone remembers the collar the most, few variations tho! Today's was a stripey one! I still havnt been able to find any of them, but I hear 2 are regular runabouts living locally from before she went. Put few more posters up with 2 views which will hopefully help. Roz, I've seen a man walking a Collie in w and a woman with 3, but not at all like Poppy. I asked my vet again when taking my other cat in as now she too has become ill. So thats 2due in again n.wk, when I will quiz im further on a man he's seen walking a Collie down the High Rd off lead. What did your guy look like? and the dog? Mel, I thought she was pretty nippy-or was that just me being too slow!? with quite long fur but not OESheep dog/Rough Collie long-still think you right that one prob not her cos of reports of one running loose in same area before she went-and not enough white on tail-did you see tail? Thanks for all posts, here and on other pages-all v. much appreciated!xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The School Green Lane Border was definitely with someone late at night - think it was a man. I also saw a similar Border Collie dog yesterday morning again at about 8:50 AM this time with a woman wearing a red anorak. Don't know if this is significant but it seems like a Poppy lookalike has appeared in the area recently - I've never seen this dog or these dogs before but then again I'm on Border alert now! Hi guys! back online-phone lines were out as well-hope didnt miss too many calls-some people don't like to call a mobile number or leave messages.I've been calling Donna for updates! I dont feel I have quite enough to rule out either of the Northweald dogs yet, although I have my doubts about the golf course one.So many people see it but never me! I drive to Harlow that way most days and now go past garage and the stow way or Potter St and the back way to NW,at all the right times-surely I should have seen something by now!All the many times I've dashed off there just after a sighting too.Why are you hiding from me!?Was the School Green Lane1with someone this time? Have mostly been cursing self for not making it to Crufts where potentially cud have alerted 200000+ dog walkers.Determined to make up for it somehow! Thanks for sticking around for us even when I was not!x x x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for passing on the message Sheba - I hope your computer is working again soon Jo. I haven't seen the School Green Lane Border Collie again since the last time. The Border Collie you saw Mel seems to have been on the run for ages and I'm sure it's not the same one as the School Green Lane one as that one is about the same size as Poppy I would say. Come home now darling X Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another local Border Collie cross found today-scanned 3X-no sign of chip, but wasnt Poppy;( Need to find who it does belong to. The man who found it in the park, where it was also seen on its own on Sat is keeping it tonight, and then is going to Foxhills in Stortford. Think probably local so will go there as soon as can to found poster the area and re-do Poppy's, must also go round houses. Any helpers in Sawbridgeworth?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jo Hope you are well. Tony and I were on our way to pick up our son from nursery a week ago and saw a dog that looked a little like poppy. Didn't see very close up but was def a collie. Was with children of different ages from 6-16 looked indian. We turned the car around but was gone when we went back. It might be nothing but we have been picking Oliver up everyday since September and we have never seen this dog before. Just thought I would mention so that anyone else that goes that way can keep an eye out as well. The children were next to the BP garage walking away from staple tye. I know it will prob lead to nothing but you just never know. Jeni xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another disappointment today. Had got all excited again on chasing up a call a lady had seen a Border Collie found poster in Upminster, which is the other side of the forest from where she went. The dog was found in the forest half starved and in a state about a week ago. No sex given but was quite hopeful. When we got there the poster was gone and no-one in the nearby shop that was given seemed to know anything about it. But the name Julie had been mentioned and it turned out a Julie did work there and also used to work at the RSPCA kennels (also mentioned). Went down there but they said the Border Collie they'd had was claimed at the wknd. I gave them another poster (they'd binned the1 I'd taken last yr) and they said this1 had more black on it. So I guess thats that. Was tempted by some of the lovely dogs in there. A few lovely Staffies, my fave actually reminded me of George who is now reunited or I'd have sent his nearby owners straight down there,a beautiful young Great Dane bitch and lots of others I wanted to bring home! Ah well. Must move on with the search.xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Happy Birthday for yesterday Jo, only just got back from Scotland 7 had time to catchup with everything yet. Was hoping this little monkey would be back by now.Be careful-if police won't go-what's your local dog warden like, ours is really good but don't go on your own. It's a pity the nationals don't do something useful. They can print a full page of teenagers wanted for breaking asbos but they won't do a full page of stolen & lost dogs. Useless hypocrites, at least people are still looking for her & there has been a couple of others turn up that have been gone a while. Stay positive Jo.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Mel!This bloke gave a rd number and name only-wouldnt say anything other than had got her upstairs-didnt disagree when I suggested Harlow. The essex street name book only came up with one in TheydonBois but on later asking around, it turned out there was one in Harlow-book didnt cover much of Harlow-which is a block of flats-from what I could see-it seemed to be the ground floor one, so, when I thought he said he'd got her upstairs and presumed house, could have been a 'we',refering to a flat upstairs.Hi there Princess & Candy! Hi Nik! I know how busy you must be, amazing how much work you do for us all as well! ITV thing didnt come to anything, I'm afraid-the Blair story rather more high profile! Have found another willing volunteer to accompany me to one of the less pleasant sitings, still no sign at the address given-although fear this one yet another dodgy hoax. A guy giving nothing more than a poss address saying he's got her in a gruff voice late at night then hanging up-think may be best not to go in alone on this one either.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I dont know she was attacked by them-just trying to go through all possibilties-like the dodgy man in the car...been looking out for as we recognised it. Snood sounds good-can I wear one-its cold out there! Better up and writing than down and dreaming to wake, rush to the door to see if she there-for a long time I slept with the door open, only to find she not. When I get Poppy back I want one of those tracking devices you have in cars-surely technology must be capable of making doggie ones by now!? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wish there was some more news on Poppy-sorry been bit behind with catching up. Snoods are mainly for they greyhoods & keep there necks warm, like a sock with the toe bit cut out,or you can get a coat that has a turn up collar on it. Think when we get Poppy back going to get her measured up for a fluorescent one with I'M HERE MUMMY printed on it. Agree with the other comment on dogs, retreivers aren't know for been vicious & I've never known a nasty Great Dane. My lab x cross has been bashed up by 2 seperate boxers & 2 spaniels. She now hates anything with boxer style faces & spaniels. It's made her a bit iffy around some dogs, but she's worse on her lead than off,but i can control her & that makes all the difference. Any dog can be nasty if it's allowed to be-or tormented in 'fun'. I'd still report anyone whose allows their dogs to attacked some one else's. Hope for good news soon Jo.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jo are Great Danes known for being vicious?? Don't know why I'm asking that as my dog was also previously attacked by 3 Golden Retrievers, it really does depend on the owners and how they have been brought up. There have been no sightings other than the girl in Oxford but the police have ruled her out although Whippet and Toledo had a look around Oxford the other day and a friend looked when she had a day out there and sister- in-law when she went too. It is just being in Oxford when this girl and her dog are there that is the problem. Really hope you get positive news on Poppy soon. Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think what happened is ITV did Mr Blair's stolen dog instead. On the radio I thought he just said it was a mongrel so had to look through a few to find it was a Bearded Collie type dog. thanks for telling me Candy, I just read about poor Fizz and the old man. How absolutely devasting for you to have your poor little one killed like that and then lose Dolly too. Have you had any news at all or any clues as to where she may be? Poppy was attacked last summer, I yanked the dog off and held it, tried telling her to run home (not far down the track) but my loyal little love didnt want to leave me and tried hiding behind my legs, until the dog bit me and freed itself and Poppy did her usual-jumped into my arms! I held her as high as I could swinging out of the jumping, biting, dogs way until my shouts for help were heard and we were saved! I have also been suspicious of 2Great Danes she was always frightened of by the car park where she may well have gone back to that day. They had been loose in the garden-I always feared the high possibility of their escape. The next day they were put in a pen for the first time. Coincidence? Hello again Sue, Jane and Jo. Mel-you probably needed it-all those late nights, early morns!xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jo I saw the Potter Street Collie and man today again at about 9am - he seems to be walking down the road at 9 quite often. Again I am terribly unobservant and I was approaching them from the wrong direction but the dog definitely had a thin stripe of either white or black going down the face - I just remember the thin stripe. God I know I'm terrible but I can never remember. I would take a photo but I think he might get really suspicious. This dog has lots of white on it I know that for sure. Did you ever put any leaflets through the doors down there? I think that might be a way forward or just speaking to the guy. There's no way he could have avoided seeing the posters though. Another dog missing this time in Epping - a black Lab could you all keep an eye out for him as well. Hope Poppy is found very soon Jo Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Keep Hopin Jo, page 13 hasn't brought the right result-Page14 may do. No -one's going to forget cos they've probably page saved to favorites so they can check on her everyday. See, I 'm going to see if I can get any help off trpd site memebers-they are lovely people & so very helpful. Probably already involved to be honest but-there may be one or two new members that are not. She will turn up, collies always do-that's why they're cleverer than us.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You're right! I keep telling people of such stories-from vets too, of animals being re-united many months on! Had another call from Harlow today-same site as before. Perhaps she IS there! There is certainly hope anyway. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Roz and Mel for looking out and for mentioning Poppy on other pages, too! Thanks Tracy for idea's and the can't have disappeared into thin air bit which quoted today as the last other hopeful around me was saying the 'accept she is gone and move on' bit I'm sure we all get from time to time. All very well but not gonna bring our babies back! 13 more poor dogs have been added to the missing list today which means Poppy off pg 13 now.Lets hope a little luck decides to blow our way now. Donna offered to come with me-we went down this afternoon-luckily found someone who knew the tower block, just by it's name-it was in a different area to that given but definately the place. We went up tothe 7th floor of this tower block-there were only a few flats and a man told us which had a dog. No reply. As I bent down and opened he letterbox I really thought it was her for some time. She nuzzled and licked my hand like poppyand the lopsided floppy ears looked the same. But we couldnt see much of a white stripe on her face. We had to wait quite some time for a full body view through the brush bit on the letterbox. But when I did-I saw the black going down too far on her front right and that cute but sadly-mainly black face. Oh dear! Had really got my hopes up on this one. ;( Asked neighbour to check and gave him poster just in case. Have had another sighting in that rd. Guess could have been same. Thankyou for support.xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had an extremely interesting call earlier. A vet called to say a woman had seen the poster and noticed someone who lived near had had a Border Collie up in her tower block since October. When asked they said they'd found it! I have a partial address so now need to go down there. Think best not to go alone..! Fingers crossed. If is her-how to get her back? The 2collie owners in Ongar that I actually spoke to were not like that- one guy -late 40's and wife from St James Av have 2 and an older couple-60+ hav 2 also-older collies! Poppy has a visible spot on her front right thigh, a few little lighter ones on lower leg and toe. The brown tinge is on the fluffy upper hind leg fur at her back end and just behind her ears, the long fur here has a sort of crimped effect. The reddy brown shines out most in the sun or bright light. The black comes round more on her front left leg than the right. The whiteon her bushy tail is quite substantial-lots I glinpse are ruled out as they only have an inch or so-she has more like 5. You have an up to date poster I think which shows her distinctive cute little lop-sided face-I'll have to speak to Jayne/Rachey about updating the poster a bit! That old Chingford/Enfield dog is the one I found-similar, but not Poppy-had another call on that one today. So glad about Lotty being found-something for Chloe to celebrate too-must have been getting quite depressing all that looking and no finds! Wildlife talks sound good-ever got the kids drawing them-I remember us sat there drawing the ones off my wallpaper! Thanks Mel and Co.(especially Chloe) for helping so much! jo has poppy got any markings we should know about ? as she just looks like a pure bred in pic i know youve said shes got brown on her where? any spots stripes any thing we could tell if it was her as there have been a couple of people in ongar that have appeared with border collies and even chloe has said about them i know of a few but i want to double check just incase shes closer to home than we all think theres been a young teenage girl walking one down by the 2 brewers it looks abit timid also late the other night i saw a woman with a mainly white one and a smaller black and white one as my lights on my car shone on the dogs the black and white one sort of shimmered brownish i drove passed them slowlyand glared i probly made the woman feel scared a bit she started walking faster towards the houses at longfields i will keep a eye out for her again and will try and speak to her ,she may be the woman youve already spoke to i dont know so if i can know if shes got any markings like spots in places or anything it would be a great help thanks xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thankyou for all comments and help. Jane you HAVE helped! Saw at least1of our posters remains at Lakeside today, which great as SO many people! Roz, I think prob not, too, but defo worth a double check-I go that way more now too. Dad should know but doesnt see great - can be remarkably unobservant from time to time, he goes that way a few times a week and if these women had got her then they'd be lulled into a false sense of security and might take her for walks more often. If the woman IS from Sawbridgeworth and had Poppy maybe she's only walking her where no posters are-why she had to go to Burnham perhaps! Wish I knew. I know she could be anywhere by now-if only vets all checked new dogs for chips and all scans worked for all chips. Perhaps cud work out a way of e-mailing/faxing more.Hard to find addresses and stuff-had to go to Library before and spend a lot of time there-not great when hoping for THE call! Nite.xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm so sorry about George Jo what an awful time you are having. I don't think the Potter Street Collie is her but I couldn't be certain. To be honest I can't remember the markings - I was quite surprised to see them and didn't really take it in properly. I will deliberately go that way to work to see if I can see them again. I would think that your Dad is a very reliable witness because he knows her so well. I think the Sawbridgeworth woman might be your answer but how could she keep her with all the publicty about Poppy. She must be asked all the time where she got her? A medium wouldn't hurt I suppose. Why don't you call one and see what they say. Although someone who calls up and says don't hang up or else doesn't sound very professional in my mind. Sorry again for your loss. Let's pray Poppy returns soon to put some happiness back into your life. Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for condolences and idea's. With Jessie due for another tricky op, desperate to hold on to the remaining members of my family-will get her chipped while there-she might be 13 and rarely leave house/garden but still! Keep thinking back to that medium who called on day2 and said I am a medium, don't hang up or else. So what did idiot me go and do but hang up-the words hadnt even registered just thought dodge sales call of some kind as had been hanging up on all day as trying to keep line free.Think maybe she was connected somehow.Maybe BT could give me her No.-I doubt it-all rather late now tho.Am sceptic too, but with so much bad stuff happening you get crazy thoughts now and then like am cursed!xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jo, so sorry to hear about George. Stay strong though-you've lots of people supporting you. I'm sure you'll have Poppy back soon, maybe a medium may be the answer-i'm sceptical but have seen on other reuniteds that they've worked. The collie brigade do seem to be turning up slowly but surely. Wish I was nearer, silly thought, have you tired using a 'sniffer' dog, if people do think they've seen her & you've not already scented the area could another dog track her? i know the police won't lend you one but there's a lot of compition dogs that can scent pretty good. I know my labx can if she thinks there's a treat coming her way. Good Luck-stay positive as hard as it may be. Speak soon. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for all posts-it really helps. Roz, dont suppose you remember if it had any black markings on back of neck? Wasn't sure-maybe it was her and just a shadow. I must go that way more often. The Collie in the guys yard was definately not Poppy-we went back&checked¬ as bad as thought. Also went to a couple other dodge places, looking for a few dogs. Spoke to puppy owner again, gave some advice&suggested register on doglost. More poss sightings yesterday but cudnt follow up as have had awfully distressing time at NW vets with my beautiful ball of fluffy golden loveliness-George, who sadly passed away yesterday. Am devastated. Donna really helped.Went for walk with Sheba, Badger and her today where Poppy went missing-sad, but to have company was nice. Must do it more and hope to see the2women with the Poppy-alike that Dad saw. Apparently they were very fond of her and walked with her on a past walk he did there with her-hmm.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The neighbour's dog sounds plausible but then again they all sound plausible. I'm pretty sceptical about it but maybe it is time to call a medium! I never thought I'd say that but all these leads must be driving you up the wall! I know some of the calls are genuine but you've probably had so many crank calls - why do people do that? Such bizarre behaviour and it doesn't help it only hinders. Really hoping you work out which one IS Poppy soon. Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We went back to Harlow siting today. Whilst looking for Poppy and Jodie we saw a spaniel puppy was missing too. A man on a quad bike appeared from no-where, went after the puppy-who had only just built up the confidence to run off the lead. He chased her and when owner got up there, they were gone. She tried posters, vets, police and had looked on doglost but not signed up. Another lady rang to say that her neighbour had my dog. She said he'd had this dog since Oct 21st and had been treating it progressively worse and worse, ever since. She said she had tried calling the police, RSPCA and another charity with no luck. Most of the time the dog shut out in a few square meters of concrete of his yard. It is so thin she can see all the bones. It escapes quite often when she feeds it, but mostly just barks in distress. She thought it was just like the poster and definitely a B/W Border Collie. Same place as last nights sighting-which, sadly, it turns out, wasnt her. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, I was so pleased to hear Lotty found. Gives hope! After helping wuth lotty Dona also came all the way to Burnham-on-Crouch with me today-althgh not sure quite how far as got a little lost! Had 4poss sightings today. My father saw 2women with a similar dog nr wear she went missing but although the dog raced over and ran round and round all excited, he thought very similar but perhaps a little smaller, but when the they'd gone thought maybe it could have been-eyes not 100%and wont wear glasses. Also, a call from a local man whose been looking out for her when walking his dogs-seen lots simlar but not quite until today! It was with a woman 2pm Sat walking along the front in Burnham. The womans description was oddly identical to a previous sighting in Sawbridgeworth where the dog was even called Poppy. Tall blonde woman late20's/early30'sagain. But what really struck me was the identical details such as more than usual white on tip of tail-about 3"+ of bright bushy white and the reddy/brown tinge on her fluffy upper hind quarters that shows up in the sun. We put up some posters with this detail on and asked a few people. Any helpers in Burnham I wonder? Then had another possible from Fern Hill in Harlow-3v.nr and 2a little further off. We went to investigate, found possibly the boys who rang who showed us a B/W dog in neighbours garden-theirs it seemed! Later, had another report of what I think must have been Janey again, in the Lavers-identical bar the spur! Cant stop thinking again now, bout the woman who called herself a medium saying don't hang up-which I stupidly did without thinking. Had had so many sales type calls-the hang up to free the phone instinct kicked in too soon. What if this woman knew the person who had her and I blew it?This is bit of a long one-too long to check jus now-apologies for any typo's-not me-it's the cheapo keyboard! xxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Donna and I went down to the body today&retrieved it from the river-not in a very good state I'm afraid. Not much of face left-but rest of body that of perhaps a Border Terrier? We took it in to vet to be scanned, but nothing showed up. Took some photo's which I hope will come out and will call Jayne soon with details. Have been checking for any missing dogs in Debden/Loughton or further and found none yet. Perhaps a few notices in the area and a call to the police tomorrow. The warden already knows. Not a very nice day-worse, I found another lump on my other cat today. Have been on to warden again today, but today she had other things she had to do-but as decomposed and not Poppy-is now low priority.Offered to go show her or maybe could try take body somewhere els but fear may fall apart so better if someone with a scanner cud come out.Have been trying to ringback all day but she was out so now cant ask again till Mon-worried might be too decomposed or washed away by then.Have been checking out a few smaller places with dogs past couple days. Well found the dog and it isnt her, not a Collie-much smaller but badly decomposed. The body had been moved downsteam a bit from where the warden was told it was under the railway bridge-5 Arches area,nr Debden Broadway. It was in a shallow stream near school & houses, right by a well used footpath along which i passed other dogwalkers.Surprised no-one else had reported it.Was planning on dashing home to get wardens No.&try to get her back up there to scan it. However, my car had other idea's!Was there 3hrs in end, walking to phone-they always pick there moments to die on u and waiting for breakdown! Ah well. nite all.xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Roz, I think it looked alot like her too, except thought there were dark splodges on top of her neck, going part way up her white collar but was getting dark so hard to tell. Called local dog warden again today who was extremely helpful. she was telling me how some microchips just wont read or only work on compatible scanners. They take a few days to bed in, after which should be re-checked, again how can travel or just stop working. Dogs she has that she knows are chipped just cant find chips on and how lots vets just dont scan new dogs-dont want to upset customers. Also how often stolen dogs dumped/sold 100's miles away. It so happens she had a call today reporting a dead Collie in fields nr Loughton. She went with the intention of scanning it and seeing if looked like Poppy-(still in her mind, which great!) but couldnt find it before next shout. Has given me the details+school that reported it so can go tomorrow and look myself. Hope not but have to know.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Probably was the same one as I remember the owner looked quite intimidating. I can understand that your mind is probably playing tricks on you as you're desperate to find her but I did think it looked quite like her only a bit thinner. It might be an idea to put a few posters through the letter boxes down that road anyway? I'll keep a look out for the North Weald wanderer! Even if we could rule it out it would be a start as you've had so many sightings! I'm sure your hard work will pay off soon. Hope your cat is ok. Thankyou all so much for helping! Mel, I've made a few Poopy's myself (of the odourless variety!). Glad all that driving round brought you some reward-if not Poppy-Badgers great-apart from a fleeting resemblance to Pops! I followed another Poppy-alike yesterday. Wondered if could be the same Roz saw on way into Harlow a while back? - Potter St, so similar, just had this black mark on neck-kept willing it to be a smear of dirt and lost a little fur but dont think it could have been-the owner so suspicious-big guy-didnt dare call her name then spent rest of next hr trying to find them again as desp wished had. Any of you in same position know how you will every vague possibilty to be your dog, only when your 100% certain it isnt can you let it go! Had couple sightings-Northweald again. Only couple hrs later so long gone by time I got there. (Princess-love it!)Jo-have done some ads put they havnt published any of our stories yet., which v.disappointing. Something about they couldn't get Poppy back if she was in there as well. All become rather more complicated. Been hearing worrying tales. Watched Justine~Alfie on that BBC2 pet people program last night-shame doglost not mentioned but glad they had program on. Alerting dognappers/people who buy dogs in pubs, to the enormity of the trauma they put us through always a good thing (lets hope they listen-and care!). Poss sightings yesterday, again in Northweald-School Green Rd to Talbot and Ongar-same place-St James's Rd again. Thanks all! xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Think the Poppyalike was running away at the time-neither sister nor Alfie's mum really expected her to hear-chased after but too far behind. Northweald ranges from Harlow side of A414 golf course, sometimes crossing rd-to fields by the Bluemans estate crossing Weald Bridge Rd to the Talbot ~ down the A414 ~ Ashlyns~Little Chef~crosses the rd to 'Blakes' Restaurant/golf course then back to Northweald. Hope to get someone to come with me to see man with all the dogs! Map not done yet am afraid-bn all looking after&hospitals wknd. Stanford Rivers? One in Ongar, 50yards up rd towards Stanford Rivers but not in it! Thanks for suggestions! Maybe if start putting clothing bits by posters in the hope she would linger? Anyway , thanks guys-take care! Jo.xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think it would be good to investigate that 'eccentric' man sounds very strange but take great care! I will keep my eyes open around North Weald but unfortunately I've never seen anything. Wouldn't she have come to Alfie's Mum if she called her or doesn't she really respond when called? It IS odd if even people who know her think it might be her? I suppose it's possible she could be living independently for so long!? It's all so odd! I really hope all this leads to good news very soon. Rxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had interesting call l.nite from a woman who had helped her friend find a dog-heard about a guy who has picked up loads of 'strays'-not a home or any, jus eccentric who has lots-she managed to contact him and thru him got her m8s dog back! Wants to meet me and show where this place is-not far apparently but well off rd-worth a try! A call from another person who'd seen a found poster in Harold Hill turned out to be a Pomeranian-now at Battersea.3people rang about the Northweald dog yesterday-made me wonder as 1of them was Poppy's best friend-Alfie's mum(a Staffy who's missing her still!)who knows her well! I still havnt seen her though and why wouldnt she have come when my sister called or found her way home?? Hard to rule out sightings like this. Have been thinking must organise/catagorise sightings better-maybe map is answer! So so many calls about her. When figure it all out will post it up clearer-for now the last but 1 i did says major places! Cheers everyone! Nite! xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

With all the various sightings it is very difficult to follow which ones might be Poppy and which ones have subsequently been proved not to be her. Joesphine, have you marked all these sightings on a map with dates and then eliminated the red herrings ? It would help you focus a bit more. Also, if you could post a list of the sightings that could have been Poppy, we could get some sort of fix on it all. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lets hope one of them is her. Another couple saw the Northweald dog again today. It has been difficult findng time to check out sightings/re-poster, since my Gran had a fall end Nov, have been full time carer, so any extra eyes or asking anyone (especialy dog walkers of any new Border Collies appearing in these areas) extreemly helpful. Cant say how much I appreciate everyone's help and all the many who go to lengths following dogs they think might be her, driving round to find posters and calling me. Its comforting knowing so many good people out there for her! Also hearing re-united stories months on! Always want to know more bout those. WHEN she's in the blue will give full details! xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It's all a bit of a puzzle. I will keep my eyes open because I'm often in Ongar, Harlow etc. One dog was reunited today after 14 months! You have had so many sightings by the laws of average, one MUST be her!! Hope she's safely in the blue very soon. Rxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Chelmsford sighting was in the middle of Avon Rd off Chignall Rd. Havnt been able to go to that area yet. A woman called to say 4"homeless"guys were up to no good with a couple of Border Collies in the Isle of Dogs. The police were called, they were arrested and she said the dogs were taken to Battersea. This happened on Christmas Eve, I expect had she been1of,Batersea would have found her chip by now, but I will call them tomorrow just in case. Mel! Another Ongar call-same place just a little further up the main rd from St James Av towards Stanford Rivers on the right, 2.30Tues afternoon! Everything I asked seemed to match up ok. Se had a red material collar on. Will check with the Collie owners I found before if could have been theirs. I dont think the Northweald 1is her as my mother and sister saw it on Monday night! Just a glimpse and altho they chased it son lost track-didt come when theycalled-from a distance and both thought it wasnt her-more barrel shaped. Well I still not 100%as she could have put on weight if not being exercised much-only these 'escapes', but seems unlikely now. Not sure which I currently think most likely to be her. Harlow maybe or Ongar would be nice-but surely she could get home from there or more would have seen her. Some of the walkers should recognise her in Ongar-like you did, Mel! Chelmsford, Chadwell Heath or that old Sawbridgeworth 1??? I think so many Border Collie escape artists about as many people dont give them the vast amount of mental&physical exercise they need, so being smart they can&do take themselves for walks! Apart from more vets calling to update records for New yr-Thats All Folks! Nite!XXXXXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Happy New Year! Lets hope it brings many dogs & owners together again-including Poppy & I! Well have had a few poss sightings over the christmas period: Pilgrims hatch near Brentwood-BP garage, crouched at side of road on Boxing Day & 1 more North weald. Also 2 rescue centers hoping the Border Collies they'd had in were mine-sadly not. Fraid havnt found anything in the papers either but may well have missed something-typically it would be in the 1 I missed-so long as others saw it ok tho! Thankyou everyone for calling/writing, people really do care-there are alot of good people out there trying to help. Like Chloe! I'm beginning to want her back for you guys as much as for us! Ah! Thanks Nik! No, didnt know that-not really had much to do with papers till now! Sorry, lesson time !! Editorial area and distribution area are not the same. The paper will only pick up on a story if it's in their editorial area. You may find a copy of the paper to buy, even though you don't live in the editorial area. As a result the story went to papers in the area where Poppy went missing and was allegedly spotted. You may buy the Herts & Essex Observer locally, but it doesn't run stories on the areas relevant to where you live and where Poppy's 'been' !!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Roz, Rachy, Nik. The Epping, Ongar, Nothweald Gazette/Guardian the one I check each week, the Epping and Halow(seperate) Star try and check-nothing in Epping this week or last, nothing in Harlow last or so far as could see in this weeks. The Mercury is another Harlow paper (not far from here). The Herts and Essex Observer also covers Harlow. The Citizen-Chelmsford-somewhat further afield and the Epping Forest Independent is usually sold more towards London which is great as suspect she may have been taken that way-havnt had chance to go check this week but all good! Thankyou Nik! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

These were the papers I targeted: Epping Forest Independent; Epping Star; Epping, North Weald & Ongar Guardian. They've all been emailed at least twice. I am not really sure which Gazette and Observer you're refering to. If you mean the Brentwood Gazette, I've just done that. The only Observer I can think of is the Herts & Essex and it doesn't cover the area. Please advise as I have to make judgements based on maps and subscription databases. Had a very sad call yesterday about a Poppy like Border Collie run over in Roydon at the wknd, but it seems it was not Poppy as it had some tan on it. Possibly one of the other 2Collies I've had calls about from there which weren't Poppy. Also had poss sighting Sat in Chadwell Heath High Street-on own, thin, hungry, slow and sad looking and one with a homeless woman walking down the main road in N15/17-nr A10. Thanks again Mel and Nik-wihout your support couldnt have kept going this long. Easy to succumb to people telling me she'll be fine and prob being looked after well by good people. I hope she is but surely 'good' people would have decency to contact police or vet or respond to poster which anyone within at least a 10 mile radius couldnt really have missed. Being looked after well includes being out on long walks and getting her checked over by vet, in which case surely she would have been spotted by now. Only a very naive person could have been duped into buying a dog like her with no suspisions, hardly likely to be clued up on care or welfare. Still, it is indeed a comforting thought, but I cannot allow myself to be blinded by it, in case I become complacent. Another South Weald Park sighting this morning. This time collar with bone shaped tag! But again, thought it was a boy. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Mel, Nik-for not giving up on us! Well, just back from Harlow, seen on cycle path from Garden Tiger(behind College) towards The Stow, been round for 2hrs calling ll over, asked quite a few dog walkers, none knew of any BCollies in the area. The couple who called were looking for a while, too. They did find another group of people that had seen this dog, but this was while I was on way so didnt speak to them myself. Apart from this only another Threshers Bush dog seen -same look-a-like-Janey. Have looked in as many papers as could find so far but no Poppy. 2diff people called about a dog on Coxtie Green Rd, Brentwood. 1st said thick leather collar and disc, like she had on when went, which right. He said it was cocking its leg tho so not so likely. Next was prob same dog. Both early Sat. Same area get loads calls from, must track down this dog to make totally sure. Cheers you guys-really appreciate it! Had another caall from Northweald again this morning-rushed down to where this same couple had seen her near Talbot again going towards Ashlyns farm-they thought. They got a good look twice now and I showed him some more photo's. He feels certain it her! But I still worry it may be this other dog. The same guy at Ashlyns I spoke to last year again said he had saeen a dog like her but thought not just in the past6 1/2wks.So worry again it might be this other similar dog. Still hope tho! No sign of dog but did stumble onto a film set with hurridly thrown on clothes&hair in air! But maybe it'll get her on TV-satellite childrens thing but still! BBC just send auto-response but says sometimes e-mails read out at 7.25, 7.55, 8.25 and 8.55 so small hope there! No sign of Poppy in Gazetteagain:/ Maybe next wk.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well 3more sightings Northweald over the wknd and early part of this week. Is this the same wanderer as before? People seem fairly sure it looks like her. Talbot, Wealdbridge Road and A414 crossing from Golf course to Ashlyns farm. Also one in Chelmsford, Victoria Road.Had to go away to look after Gran for much of this week so havntbeen able to do much at all. Also car off road, having to borrow when can. So not a very productive week.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Back from the shops- did LAKESIDE Not Bluewater. Asked at the information desk- they phoned upstairs for permission- answer came back - not really supposed to but 'we wont see you putting them up!!' So posters now in Lakeside- ladies Loos, information maps on all floors, information desks(both sides) - they also took some DOGLOST postcards as they have dogs. Also a petshop on 3rd floor petshop called 'time 4 pets' has put it on the till. cant guarentee how long they will stay there but did see people reading them. JaneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Re the updated poster- can I suggest you email to the doglost site so it can be updated for everyone to print.as it gives a much better face picture face on. Also it would have the doglost number as well as the Id number for the site 1817.. Might end up walking round Bluewater with it pinned to my back if i cant get them up- that should raise a few eyebrows and Graham will probably disown me !!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Jane! I go there, or Lakeside, 1000's do! Must do Lakeside2! Lots of shops wont put up & they tend2 take them down frm pillars in centres but while up, gr8! I've been going4 bollards, posts and traffic lights on way in and out! Will send you a copy of my 'chain' e-mail. Who know's if will work but worth a try! Anyone else I could send one to? Includes latest poster, with Jane's great 2pic idea! ITV trying to get her story on London Tonight! Not sure they will but worth a try! Sightings in Sawbridgeworth, on the 'Rec' behind main car park-tall blonde woman , late 30's/early 40's who this man had never seen before was walking a girl he thought looked just like Poppy, CALLED POPPY! She played with his dog and a ball, as Poppy would with a friendly little dog! Sounds hopeful, was l.wknd &he looking out for her. Going down there today. Also , another Northweald sighting night before last. Expect this the other wanderer but nothing definate. Cant rule out! Chloe darlin'! Thankyou! So glad to have you on the team! I'll try sending Mum the e-mail and poster to pass on! Maybe some of your friends have e-mail, or a poster at school would be really great! These new posters prob best as Chingford & stuff not really relevant any more! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had reply from ITV. Went down to press office as couldnt get through on phone and Daniel assures me he's on the case, hoping to get story in n.week or week after, local Gazette.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another call from Matalan, Enfield. Ran round the area the collie was seen for 3or4hrs then found a collie with very similar markings, thin and scared, but not Poppy. I think she belonged to a worker inside. She was shut out on a grassy area outside the building. Couldn't see a break in the fence, but in this industrial area, this likely to be the one I've had 2 or 3 calls about. Another possible in the forest gate area. If anyone wants me to send them a fresh poster, that would be fantastic! So many similar profiles, Jane suggests putting views on 1-am 1st trying to alternate posters so at least have few different views in one area (eg on a roundabout or either side of road!), until I get chance to do that! Nik, really apreciate your help. Must admit thought the same as jouno said that! Think might bug him to see me in person. Other papers next-or other journi. Also writing to Paul O'Grady as did a feature recently trying to rehome dogs and my Dad morris danced on the show with him in the summer-maybe a way in!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks all of you! Just called Gazette again on lost dogs story. Says he's looking into it, waiting for response frm a couple of people. I wonder if a mention of Skala's amazing story as another local dog would help-If you (Jeni and Toni) didnt mind, that is! Poppy was taken from the same place before (now off-limits!) and so, I hear, were a couple of labs recently. Maybe oppurtunists coming out frm London for day out, see these beautiful, friendly dogs, wait till let off lead then pounce. Dont let them take our dogs last havens for a free run.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

B/W Springer Spaniel dog, found Harrow Cresent, Harold Hill, Romford, Essex. Taken to Romford Police St, then Battersea. The 'man over the road who was looking after it for his brother' tried to claim it but it wasnt his so was refered back to Romford, Batterersea also say he was re-homed last week, brought back then re-homed again a couple of days ago. Have tried contacting Springer lost 11/10 but only get council voicemail. Yet another White Horse , Southweald Park, nr Brentwood sighting, this time a jangly leather collar. Probably same wandering farm dog again, but must make sure. 2collar description now- red and jangly leather, so if farm dog doesnt...! Next a 10am sighting of thin, frightened dog like her in Berecroft, Commonside Rd, Harlow, same area as l.weeks Traveller site, not far from Epping Green, which is not far from where she first went missing. Found 4 Collies in that area today, a puppy which had been inside at time then on lead, an old rough male collie which had been in a van all along and another old male, with very similar markings, which had been in the house. Also went to site entrance and was greeted by a B/W collie cross with very short fur and thin tail-so many other dogs barking, hard to tell but asked couple people to look out for her and gave posters. Also 2Gidea Park sightings l. Tues and an interesting1at WakeArms Roundabout, popping out then back into forest, l.wk.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've done 4or 5 paid ads in locals, but not many people check the one item in the lost and found section! We wrote a general story to the gazette a few wks ago, which they are finally looking at, so fingers crossed. Ideally we could get a wider circulating/ London paper interested but so far still waiting on this one. How do you get them interested? Clairvoyant type stories seem to ave worked, if only I wasnt such a sceptic! Some woman calling herself a medium rang on day2-wish I hadnt hung up-she said "don't hang up or else". Maybe she knew who had her and I blew it!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Roz, thankyou for caring, so good to know you're looking out for her there. Glad to hear some posters remain in North Weald-had to replace them several times over! Keep getting calls from Northweald, (among others). I suspect it is the same wandering dog as I got calls about last year when she was stolen. Not sure though, I'd like to be more certain. have you ever seen a Border Collie roaming the streets and inspecting rubbish bags (yesterday morning sighting)? If never have before 10/10 but have since or in future, then there is a chance that it is her. Perhaps someone is 'looking after' her there. Well todays Maldon Collie in a sheep field was claimed-still terrified-spooked by fireworks, poor thing. Poppy so terrified of them too, I hope there are no more. Another hoax and another Southweald Park sighting today too-expect this same wanderer that frequents the White Horse on a regular basis tho!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Police had no reports of a Collie, but when tried again today, a Spaniel (thats what they thought this Border Collie was!)was brought in on the 15th from Harold Hill. Still need to check collected from Battersea by right owner(mayb still down wrongly as a Spaniel!). Had a call from woman I spoke to the other day in Threshers Bush to say she had my dog in her house, was so happy for us-only it wasnt-identical but for thestreak on her forehead! Janey, no doubt! Then a man rang to say he'd seen a dog just like mine on the Fenn Way(?) Travellers Site, Harlow (nearby town) when he visited it a couple of days ago... Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

And yes, she does like to carry a toy on walk! Keeps hold of it for ages then when you nearly get to where you were going to throw it, you turn round to see her dropping it in a ditch-which I then have to spend ages looking for! She also tends to carry a toy for comfort, like round the house and places when I'm out. She probably will be with someone else.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Looks like there's a bitch in the Threshers Bush, area that looks just like Poppy that probably accounts for all the sightings in that area that I was so hopeful about. A dog that wanders alot in Northweald probably accounts for the Northweald one and the Border Collie found on 14th Oct Harold Hill way seems to have been claimed-although the two people who answered the phone gave a different account of it which seemed a little odd, anyway, must get on. Millions more vet letters to write and send. Think need to take all police stations posters too, all the police I've spoken to on the street as well many other people say phoning doesnt always actually get details properly logged or checked and they dont communicate the information even around their own stations!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for doing that for me, Mel! Am on lost-doggies, have tried putting her on few others but cant find her so not sure any others worked-did petsearch but is it there? I really hope she's not in Tower Hamlets too, she'd hate it, but if the person that stole her lived there or sold her on there, then I guess it is possible-after all, if they had just gone out on the tube to Epping, its easy enough to get to. She could be a way off by now, however she got there. Hope not. Still hoping some local person's taken her in, looking after her, maybe even trying to kid themselves that they're doing her a favour! But surely someone who'd seen 1of my many posters- would see her being taken for walks-unless she's imprisoned-which would be like hell for her.Putting out some different pictures of her so people have more views of her to go on!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jeni, so pleased for you! Again, prob have some idea how you're feeling! Poppy was stolen-same area, last Sept-turned up at Fairlop station a few hrs later-who-ever took her had removed her collar&tag,no chip so only found her on 3rd call/visit to Battersea-have been reliving the happy- tearful moment we were re-united ever since!Only now its more a fantasy of what I hope might be where-ever I am. Last night had a call from a woman who swore it was "just like dog in poster" in Mile End, so was down there late-until some dodg guy followed me back from lamp-post and tried to get in car with me-pooring rain too, so called it a night! Today put ad in another paper-another ?61! Also had poss sightings Nr Southweald Park(again-but apparently another Collie there is a notorious wanderer! And tonight, Threshers Bush. Couldnt be in all 3places at once,so concentrated on Brentwood. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Josephine, I am now back on my feet and ready to help. You asked whether I could think of anything else that could help. Have you tried ringing local schools, ask if they will say something in assembly about keeping an eye out for her. Children love dogs and will notice them around. Postmen would notice a dog around a house that isn't usually there. Ask them to put a poster up in the royal mail office. Traffic wardens are around the streets all the time have a word with any you see around, we found if you talk to people on a one to one basis they helped more. Milkman, builders, and road workers are all people you could ask to keep an eye out. If I think of anything else that may help I will let you know. I will look around the Roydon area just in case. If you want a hand going around an area I don't mind meeting up with you even if it's just to keep you company. I know how sad it can be. Speak soon, thinking about poppy all the time, Jeni x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As Chingford turned to Brimsdown to Ordanance Road, Enfield, I began to wonder if it was not poor old other Poppy(Enfield vet stray)again, who was found not that many miles from this one. My high hopes fuelled by the sunny day began to dwindle. Sounds like this poor dog in need of some serious TLC, if so, vets said she was in awful state, lady last night said this one was too. Surely she should be given a collar at least. If it is that one, not mine, which it still could be-musnt be so pessimistic! Been out looking and postering for 12hrs straight, was so determined to find her today before the fireworks really kick off and frighten her. Thanks for Chingford posters! Hopefully they'll spark an interest infinding her there! Forest warden assured me they're all keeping an eye out for her too (while jump-starting my car for me!). Only, it's been so long..Thanks Mel & fam-must get better, try and squeeze some sleep in somewhere, or you'll get it2!TC.xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

For the local papers, the best bet is to write to them suggesting they put it in as an interesting article (with piccy!) saying how careful owners must be etc etc and how distraught your family is ..... And that the dog is now really in need of her medication (even if she isn't!). I take it you've also tried all the dogs' homes, local and not so local? Off to poster Old Macdonalds Farm later, anywhere good though! Got hopes up a bit much again bout Hainault-looked everywhere, but turns out the dog belonged to a guy on horseback. Sainsbury's one was too black.Got upset as v.dissappointed :"( Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mel! Thanks mate! Really appreciate that! So many people go there and maybe go to other markets and boot fairs where maybe someone thinks they could sell her! Tried Brick Lane again this morning with similar idea!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the numbers, missed the deadline last week for the gazette, so far only an add in the West Essex and ? Independent. Have been looking for other No.'s-not seen any such adds so far tho-not sure where they'd put it? Another couple leads this wknd. A woman thought she'd seen a dog like her alone in Southweald Park, but thought it was the day before she went missig but couldn't be sure. Also a lady rang this afternoon to say that she had seen a Border Collie in Hainault Forest on Thursday. Neither she nor the wardens could find an owner and when they turned round it had run off. Had put a couple of posters near there but now more. Will go back when light to look and ask again. A man there, who works at Redbridge Police St where he had seen my poster said a similar looking dog was outside Sainsbury's, Newbury Park, in a state and alone, he said the staff seemed to be dealing with it.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes the'Colliers hatch' car park on Tawney Common, nr Gravel Pit wood.Car was parked there so she may well have gone back there and hopped in someone elses, chased off further affield, gone on, on usual route to try and find Dad- over M11 bridge, Gernon Bushes nature Reseve, through Coopersale, where she may also have been taken or on to Epping through Stonards Hill playing Field-another likely place for someone to take her. Hope at least she not being treated badly. Thanks!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Wendy! Think put one poster near there in the hope you guys might see it but far better where you've put it. Think you mean the stables my sister used to ride at, where Sheila Salters' (a previous neighbour and huge Poppy fan!) old horse Monty, was! Could be wrong! Anyway, that area great, as really not far from where she went missing and in the right direction too! Anyone see any Collies like her at all last Monday would like to hear however trivial it may seem! Thanks Mel, again! I've not looked much that way! And you poor thing, running in mud for us, you must let me buy you a drink WHEN I find her!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have printed the poster and displayed it at the large livery stables at Hobbs Cross. Horse riders are in a good position to look out for dogs and most are also dog lovers. It goes without saying that I'm keeping my eyes open myself.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks all! Thanks so much4your help Melli-hope u got reply-computer been playing up! Hav been busy ringing, asking, looking, postering and re-wording 4 for virtually all my waking hrs since she went-exhausted but SO COMPLETELY WORTH IT! So much still to do though! Some people find it hard to believe just how much, but I expect most of u understand. Keep finding great knew places to take Poppy for walks WHEN I find her! Met and had message postings from so many lovely people, its really comforting. Glipsed a large black and white animal dead at the side of a road last night, froze, terrified it might have been Poppy, but when I went back a few minutes later, it was a poor beautiful big badger instead.Jo.xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
