the following article was in the hucknall dispatch newspaper 13/3/09 link http://www.hucknalldispatch.co.uk/hucknall/Search-for-injured-dog39s-owner.5067990.jp   A DOG which was found with a badly-broken leg at Killarney Park near Bestwood Village has benefited from a generous good Samaritan act. The young chocolate-coloured labrador was taken to Buckley House veterinary surgery in West Street, Hucknall, where she received desperately-needed surgery.
And after attempts to trace the owner had failed, the medical attention was jointly financed by Buckley House, Gedling Borough Council and the RSPCA. The full cost was ?950 and a shortfall is still outstanding.
There are still hopes that the female dog ? named Felicity by Buckley House staff ? can be re-united with her owners.
But if, after a week, the owners do not come forward, an appeal will be made for a good home where the dog can continue to be cared for.
Dog owners across the Dispatch district are now being reminded to either microchip their pets or ensure they have a collar and tag.
Gedling council’s portfolio holder for safe and sustainable neighbourhoods, Coun Ged Clarke (Con), said: "I am very impressed by the vets’ actions to secure the dog’s future and heartened by the RSPCA’s response.
"We were more than happy to contribute our costs under these exceptional circumstances. It is important now to trace the dog’s owners or find her a good home so that she can continue to make a full recovery."
RSPCA inspector Gary Eastwood said: "The dog was badly injured and we need to find out why she was left in such a state.
"We are grateful to the council for helping this dog have a second chance of life and we hope someone will offer her a new home."
If you know who the owners are or may be interested in providing the dog with a good home, please contact Kevin Nealon, community protection manager at Gedling Council, on 0115 901 3824.
