Wondered why it says found on your details for the 4th Oct 2011? Has she been found? Does the owner know this was definitely her from the chip?Last edited: 2011-10-18 10:58:16 by spurgin

email from a helper...Tx...

Hi- I am not able to login for some reason but sending this regarding the story of ethel, the Jack Russel in les trois canons area, and thought I may be able to help. The story is a bit confusing but from what I understand the dog went missing in France, is that right? I have a friend who is fairly local so have passed on the details to her.
I may not be of much use to finding ethel but my family live in a similar part of France a little further south and I thought I may be able to offer advice. I would advise the owner to contact the local mayor and local radio (they tend to be very good about lost dogs in that part of France- I'm from a little further south from there and we had great help from them wen we lost my godmother's westie.) The thing is to get people round there talking about it, which will probably be far more useful than getting the English press involved.
Also, I would contact the local english language paper- I'm pretty sure there is one in La Rochelle, and get them to run a story. Or get the owner to place an ad in it. There is a very big English community round there. And call the local police to report the dog as stolen (it may be more effective if a French person calls, though I hate to say it). If the owner needs any help with contacting local radio, etc in French I am happy to help (I am a native French speaker.) Apologies if she has already done all of this- hope she gets her dog back. Best regards, Svenja

Ethel first went missing 2 years ago in the UK...she was reunited a few days later. We have now re opened her details as owner got in touch with us yesterday to ask for advise and up dated us as to what happened....she lost...believes had Ethel stolen...whilst on holiday in France....she has been back several times to poster and last week got a phonecall to say some one in Les Trois Canons had her...owner travelled back to France and asked around local villages...then she came accross the vet who said someone had brought Ethel in to his surgery in April to have her chipped...as procedure he scanned the dog before inserting the chip and picked up Ethels chip...he informed new owners thst he could not chip the dog....no report has been made to petlog about this...because as vet said...it was a foreign chip...poor excuse as with the aid of google it would not have taken him long to realise it was a British chip...He will not give owner details of his customer...which maybe because of data protection act...we only have the town...so as siad earlier we need to press share button above and appeal to anyone in the La Rochelle area to help us...please dont start up new page just a title on yours and a link to DL so we can monitor posts on here...tx

I am totally confused. Is Ethel in France or here in the UK ? x
wensmum
Sorry, I don't understand - she was chipped, the vey wouldn't chip her again, because she was chipped, but will not give contact details because the current holder said they had bought her - chips are worth nothing if vets do not help - and on the whole theydon't seem to want to - but petlog etc say they will deal with the legal stuff - vets guide lines say they should contact microchip company - who is this vet registered with?

To make it clearer Ethel was REUNITED with the help of DogLost and helpers back in 2009. She went MISSING again in March 2011 while owner was on holiday in FRANCE. Friend rang DL with advice and we have reactivated her page. The search is on again to find her. Please help spread the word and keep us updated. Thanks. x

I would like to thank every one of you from Lilybelle and myself our hearts were broken at the loss of our little dog...we bred her specially as a member of our family and it was unbearable to think that we would never see her sweet little face again...we have a twenty year old dog here, Wolfie which we got when she was 16 years and she and Ethel are very close friends and I thought that Wolfie would die from sadness at the loss of her little friend...Thankyou, and let me help by joining your team and fundraising....whatever capacity I can help, tell me............with love Juliaxxxxx Ethel (lick)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ethel was found today, she was caught up in the hedges in someones back garden. One of the houses along the grange fields, they we're very kind, they looked after her and gave her some bacon. She is very skinny and has lots of ticks but she is alive and well. I am so glad we have got little ethel back and I can't thank everyone enough for all the support with posters etc. Hopefully this will be a lesson for chasing the rabbits! Tried ringing owners before we set out this morning so they could tell us where our help is needed .........answer service.......didn't leave phone number as we would be out looking. We have been postering around the Greenway walk from Blackhorse Road to Radwell Meadows. So many places for Ethel to hide. Come home Ethel it's too cold and miserable out there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Put more posters up today. We spoke to more concerned people who are looking out for Ethel. One lady took poster to put up in shop on corner of Green Lane. Sadly no sightings as yet . We will go again tomorrow. Has anyone done Sainsbury's, Pets at Home etc. Don't want to duplicate. Don't give up, she's out there somewhere.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

put posters up outside local schools shops petrol stations  train stations bus stops etc.......... children actually remember an awful lot and you'll be surprised how many of them will be keeping an eye out for ethel. contact local papers and radio stations........... get a photo advert in the local paper pets section lost and found.........make sure it states reward given. i know it's like looking for a needle in a haystack that's why the posters are so important in getting as many people aware of ethels situation..i hope today is the day she is home.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

ethel's owner my mum lives in letchworth.......... she spends half her day walking her beagle. just spoken to her and she will be wandering about looking for ethel now. please contact standalone farm as this is ideal for ethel.........hundreds of rabbits. and please check this area as huge walk all around the back of farm which circles letchworth.......thousands of rabbit holes she could have gone down. my aunt and uncle are in stotfold.have emailed details to them and i know they will be out looking too.............and putting up posters. please keep site updated with any sightings so we can poster/look in the right area.  don't give up you may find it takes a few more days.......if she is stuck in a rabbit hole she will need to lose some weight before she can wriggle free... go out at night if you can and listen for any whining in this area behind standalone farm. good luck and don't give up. the posters are the most important thing........i can't emphasize enough..........just keep putting them up everywhere...you will get her home!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have left poster at Nursery, Hitchin Road, Stotfold. Also started postering from entrance to Standalone Farm, Letchworth (SG6) to where the path comes down  from Stotfold opp. Fairfield Park. We will go out again tomorrow morning starting from Norton end. We spoke to several people on our way round, one lady already knew about Ethel so that is good, word is getting around. The more people looking the better. We did check undergrowth and ditches where we could. Can you tell us where else you would like posters put up in the area please.
